A mod that I've attempted work on multiple times since learning about RebEd was to re-stat the various ships and fighters. The idea being to bring these closer to their depiction in the movies and Expanded Universe/Legends. I've also looked for stats in the x-wing games and RPG's to help fill in any missing knowledge. Star Wars Rebellion was obviously created with the intention of providing a more balance game experience. As a result ships do not always match up with expectations for them. The best examples of this in my opinion are Imperial Star Destroyers being somewhat under powered, while the Corellian Corvettes and Gunships weapons all count as anti-starfighter laser cannons.

The purpose of this thread is to help document attempts to reconcile these various stats into a mod that maintains some elements of both lore and balance. This has not been easy so far. Some ships are agonizingly close to their basic stats from the West End Games RPG. Others are hopelessly disjointed to help balance the game. (I'm looking at you Assault Frigate and Strike Cruiser.)

The Lore & Legends Mod stats will be adjusted over time.

	Resource Maintenance Cost
Maintenance costs have been rounded downwards and some construction costs tweaked to bring them more in line with the category of vessel they belong to. Mines and refineries take a long time to build relative to most other structures. To ensure both sides can field larger fleets most maintenance costs have been reduced.
Ships, troops and fighters deemed to have *High Maintenance* will have their numbers increased by up to 50%.

Map
It is my intention to use a modified version of the map with system and sector placement closer to canon. For testing purposes I've been using a tweaked version of DarthTex's galaxy map image, though lacking many of the other changes in that mod.

	Dynamic Starfighters
One of the larger changes. Firepower on most starfighters has been reduced downward to canon stats, in return their agility and sublight speed have been increased. Some shields have been boosted as well, especially on less mobile craft like the Y-wing.

Cygnus Spaceworks Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wing Assault Gunboat being considered as a more economical replacement for TIE Defender. Testing required.

Testing results v2a: Mostly positive. Tie Fighters are still shredded in larger engagements but much less so compared to v1 attempts.
Testing results v2b: Starfighters remain a threat but a greatly reduced one as long as shields remain up.
Testing results v2c: Testing required.

Game Start
Buffed Empire and Rebel starting structures and troops. Both capitals start with 2 Construction yards and a troop training facility. All starting locations given additional army units. Coruscant given 15 TIE squadrons.

Capital Ship Rebalance
Previous attempts to give capital ships in Rebellion their RPG stats have been less than satisfactory. Giving Bulk Cruisers lasers cannon instead of Turbo Lasers and the reverse for Corellian corvettes was nothing short of a disaster. Weapon stats in v2b are (for the moment) seeing minimal changes. With the dynamic starfighter changes it may be necessary to reduce the number of laser cannons on ships. Testing required.
Rather than dramatically skewing shield stats with figures the games could not handle I have gone for a middle ground, boosting shields on all ships, but not to nearly the same extent.

Good morning SWRE community. I am wandering if it is possible to modify the type of mission that the "Spec units" like the Imperial commando is able to do. I want them to be able to do assassination mission. I want to create a new type of unit too. Something like an engineer or a scientist. I may be wrong but i think these edits are doable via a "hex editor". Is there someone who ever tried to do something similar?

I know that this may not make sense but i'm working on a larger mod and those changes are part of this.

	Thank you for your help.

So here it is. I love rebellion. Think it is one of the greatest game I've ever played, whatever my friends may say about-it. I liked the Reloaded TC, and the fact I did not need to use a CD anymore. However, there are a lot of things I did not like from-it as well. Some of the characters did not ring any bell to me and I wanted to replace them with others. I can't claim the work of just about everything in my total conversion project. I owe-it all to the rebellion community and more in general to the SW community.

(So here's what I have been working with:

-Rebellion 1.00

-Reloaded TC

-Changed loads of characters to some that are more significant to me. (95% done, as I am satisfied but may change something here and there)

-Adjusted their stats to get something still playable. (99%)

-Changed tons of ships (models and cards), replaced and adjusted their stats A LOT to get a good balance between the ships. (95% again)

-Changed troops (made AT-AT card myself) (95%)

-Changed special characters (80%)

And the biggest project is still a WIP: galaxy overhaul. Darth Tex made his own, but we all have different opinions on how the galaxy should look like. My vision differs from his. I wanted a galaxy that is more attuned to the actual groups of planets and with a chart of planets a little bit more official and up to date. Right now, I have this done:

-Corporate sector (100%)

-Mon Calamari/Centrality sector (100%)

-Yavin Sector (100%)

-Hutt Space (100%)

-Deep Core (100%)

-Modell Subsector (80%, positions are not accurate yet)

-Kashyyyk Space (35%, planets are chosen, descriptions are being redacted, positioning and planet pics to do)

-Spice Triangle (100%)

So 6 sector done out of 20, 2 close to completion. Projected sectors are:

-Hapes contorsium

-Unknown Region/Chiss Assendancy

-Corellian to be reworked

-Hoth and greater Javin/Anoat?

-2 for Pentastar alignment

-1 for Coruscant and surroundings

For now, that's what I've got. I use some of Slocket's planets to replace some of Rebellion's ugliest pics... but plan on scanning some off my Essential Atlas sometimes and see if I can get them into the rebellion color pallet without killing the effects.

If anyone want some screenshots of anything specific, as for-it and I shall deliver. I'll post a few screenies of sectors soon. perhaps encyclopedia entries too, as every planet is going to get a new description (except maybe a few that were already in rebellion, which may still get an addendum.)

If anyone see their work and want to get into the final Credit list (if there's one, because as I said, there are only a few thing I can claim to have really done all by myself).

My english is not perfect, so if you see errors, reporting them to me may help in correcting them. Then again, this suppose that there is interest for my work...

Still, be assured that I'll post the final version here. And just to be on the safe side, you may ask for me to send textstra.dll and encytext.dll (at least, I think that's their name...))

Edit

Mod IS OVER. I wont be working upon-it for some time, but I think this version has pretty much everything you may want from my mod, till I work on-it some more.

Rebellion 1.5 beta v2:

https://www.4shared.com/archive/PDxTFDOvca/_Rebellion15_Mod_Betav2.html

*Need to subscribe (free) to be able to download, it seems.

Eye candy (might be old versus beta v2...):

	Hello,

I know some works were already done, but I'm working on giving Star Wars Rebellion a fine treatment by making sure, we base our improvement on factual data about Star Wars Universe.

Given all that, I prepared some data to work with :
- Star Wars The Esssential Atlas planet pictures in PNG HD with transparent background
- Star Wars The Esssential Atlas planet pictures in 37x37 BMP sprites
- Excel file listing :
- Star Wars Rebellion planets
- Star Wars The Esssential Atlas planets (76 iconic planets)
- All Canon and Legend planets + Region/Sector/System/Coordinates
- Auto Generated map for SWR planets to see how they spread on the Galactic Map
- Auto Generated map for Legends planets to see how they spread on the Galactic Map

With this I think we can discuss which 20 sectors to have and which planets to select to build the most accurate/iconic top 200 planets galaxy map for the game.

	Any help is welcome.

The game has 26 built in planet sprites (1 is reserved for destroyed one).
I'm trying to have 201 different sprites (and later to update the encyclopedia as well).

I'm wondering if hyperspace travel times are auto computed based on X/Y positionning of sectors/planets.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/j9vmdqahvrlbch0/planets.zip/file

Any help here would be definitely appreciated.

I am not sure where to place the RebEd Installation so I placed the REBED folder in the main SW Rebellion Program Folder.

That being said, whatever changes I make in RebEd do NOT show up in my Rebellion Game.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong please?

Post was supposedly be an (poor) alternative for (not working nowadays) Rebellion editing Wiki http://www.swrebellion.com/rebedwiki/.
I strongly recomend making a backup text file of that so you wont fake bump post views unnessesarily.

I'll try to post threads and links that are relevant (imo) to a problems ive mentioned in my 1st Mod proposal post.

I strongly advise new modders to start from reading whole https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/282-mechanics-inside-rebellion/ thread.
It should give you a basic understanding of what we all are up against.

& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/2943-help-me/

Also check the download section {as a nessecity}.

FEW TIPS FOR TOTAL NEW PLAYERS/ MODDERS:

	1) Easiest way to start your practise is from blocking both A L BRIEF & E M BRIEF files in your main game folder - just to skip 'your advisors' intoduction.
It may save you a lifetime.

	& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/2716-another-error-please-help-asap/ - about editing it
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/2738-replacing-briefing-question/ - about editing it

	2) I think all who dare to still love this game started from editing save game files just to "check" differences of your fleet composition.
It basicaly allows you to quick change things you want to check without need to play full-lenght scenario.

	3) Feel free to get your RebEd figured out - just to get little more familiar with a code and some of line structures.

	4) At this point you are more or less on the level when you can do some of Personal Changing or maybe even Total Conversion.
Just be prepare for a long lasting process to do so. I recommend strarting from posts of the original page then following the forums.
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/2227-uge-10/ - oldest 'game helper program' possible - dont think its anywhere active -try other old games communities -some things can be done with that much esier
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/1805-yet-another-edit-app/ - if you dig it out
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/1297-remember-me/ - basic programs needed
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/42-hex-locations-anyone/ - pretty good idea of what RebEd is supposed to be doing
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/96-question/ - gives you idea that even RebEd (*upgrades) can mess your game
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/394-reading-the-dat-files/ - advanced decoding
& https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/80-name-length-patch-plan-b/ - advanced name coding- just less in merit facts
- Going rebels is always pretty much the same strategy - repetitions can be boring after some time - so i'd suggest adding at least mechanic
to the imperial ocupation that negates at least partialy smuggling benefits for rebels - fe. hunters guild improving slowly allignment of planet
to the imperial side without additional diplomats - slowest rate possible

	- The hiperspace speed have been found out and i cheer for an option where some worlds could have dedicated trade routes giving bonus to that (marked on strategy map)
I also dont agree with vision where the routes are the only hyperjourney option. - Back in the days words have just starting points in the system which were considered as coordinates gates.
But i dont believe an alliance or imperials have access for all the jump coords including those of private sectors/ or corporations.

	- The possibility of editing the basic faction capital to the any location gives the alternate option of TC- i just imagine the wars and conflicts based on the only 'outer rim' systems
But then i don't know yet how to block or even edit the core worlds into the more useful form to do that.

	- I have always missed the option to re launch fighters at the tactical battle screen - it was mentioned in 1 thread and i fully agree with that
it would be ideal to make this option possible for every group (red/blue/gold/green) individualy

	- It would be interestin to add variable to the tactical space battle that makes starting points base on fact what the stationary fleet is defending

- Probotectionklaus' mod tries to rebalance some of military/defence structures but i've found out it's almost impossible
to bombard out a lvl 2 shield gen planet (2600def?) and imagine it can be build more times?

- Some of new mechanics propositions weren't considered - no1 was moving in these directions as far as im aware so it will be certainly difficult to make any of them possible.

	Hello
It's my 1st post on this forum so i'll try not to get banned from start (because of my not so good english).

I'm moderate fan of SW Reb from since it basicaly came out.
Unfortunately as most games do it's starded becamim quite mature giving a fact alternatives (TC / PC) are somwhat missing core points of modding gameplay.
So far i've tried to understand some mechaics under it but i weren't that successful as probably most dedicated users of this forum.
Still..

I'd like to thank to all who contributed to it all those years.

I'm sure it will be helpful if i share my thoughts for what it must be done for original game to be even better.

This sum up can be viewed as a starting point for (hopefully future as well) still active modders.

Note about Copyrights:
I'm trying not to break any law giving my thoughts about game or so to be improvements.

As Master_Xax mentioned in https://swrebellion.net/forums/topic/9383-reverse-engineer-swr/ that probably Core Code exists no more.
I agree on that assumption, base on facts that:
a) Lucas Arts~ haven't been punishing/ pursuing modders of newer SW games.
b) Since whole franchise become somewhat closer to the interpretation of EU/international law it, it became quite comforting to not to think about black suits lawyers.
c) Since game can be viewed as abadonware (unless company will prove visualy they have uncyphered 1st version of it) it can be modded freely BUT free of charge.
d) I dont negate whichever copyrights or laws but i simply do not believe 1st copy hasn't been destroyed/ lost/ corrupted or ILLEGALY altered in all those years.

	General thoughts:

I don't join up all the whining to the galaxy map interpretation of the authors. This is Imperial era and so whole sector names and valuable planets are to be considered as important to this faction.

I haven't feel the need of visual representation of the ground battles - SW duh... should be focusing on the space (scale) clashes.

Main issues to the gameplay i have:

	- MISSING THE OPTION TO MAKE YOUR OWN KEY BINDINGS AND MACROS!

	- Possibility of editing galaxy map/ planets (both their minatures and decriptions) for all those in love with legend/ expanded universe/ cannon like view of it.
I like the new view from Probotectionklaus' mod but it messes up whole miniatures/pictures.

	- There are few units/ ships/ characters which could be added - not replace existing ones

	- Gameplay tempo starts to feel up from the winning side perspective. - no clue how to fix that yet (i used to simply play on HQ victory conditions)

	- Speciality missions like Abduction/Assasination could get a little possibility +factor for the imperials

	- Also whole spec-ops should be payed in total maintenance cost - -1/-2/-3 it should balance them even more and prevent whole scenarios based only on character missions (c'mon there is no war without an army )

	- Rebels army regiment should get buffed at least a bit - like in probotectionklaus mod (this at steam community forum).

	- Neutral words (aquatic colour) should be at least defendable - i mean if there are some stations / units on the orbit and ground
When anybody disovers how to read this i'd suggest expanding in editing options of uninhabited(officialy) words too. - sth like real neutral/ deserted outposts - geat for some events

	- I'd love to see some more advance stuff done, like posibility of adding more events & factions (part of Katan fleet? on random rim world)

When i will have any new ideas i will repost them below.

Once again great thanks to all authors of mods especialy Probotectionklaus(group? iniciative) - love the new models and unit types i wish they were added thou not replaced.

I have an idea for 2nd post where i'll briefly shortcut all the threads needed for those improvements to be reconsidered possible(if not today then in the nearest future).

Below i add download link to the .zip containing brief decriptions of some basic stuff along with keybindings options(missing in original readme!? - Thanks to Praetor Pyro aka Cra z P sy)
and planet descriptions for those who'd want to rethink which could be replaced for their newer adversaries.

	NO CODE INCLUDED

PS. If anybody could pm me how to make any key alterings or macros if it is even possible?

You don't need to play a game, just reach the main menu, then close.

2) Install RebEd

Download

2b) Go to the folder you installed RebEd to. Make sure d3drm.dll is in that folder. If it isn't, copy it from your Rebellion directory and put it there.

3) To make RebEd cards work, we need to trick RebEd. Go to your Rebellion directory and create a new folder called "Trick". Now move the MDATA folder into Trick.

3b) At this point, Rebellion will complain about a CD and won't start. Step 4 fixes this.

4) You need to manually change some registry settings. If you don't know how to do this, find a tutorial like this one for the basics.

In Regedit, search for "DllLocation". Make sure you find registry entries for Rebellion, then change the DllLocation entry to point to your main Rebellion directory. In the same registry area, you should see "TooBigLocation". This needs to point to the Trick folder.

If you don't have those registry keys and/or have further problems, verify your registry settings against those listed by Jamison in this thread. Make sure your directory is correct (don't use Jamison's directory in Program Files if you installed Rebellion somewhere else). Also, only use ONE \ when editing the registry directly; two \\ are only used when making a .reg file.

Congratulations, you're done! At this point, Rebellion and RebEd should work, INCLUDING LOADING CARDS. Read on if you are interested in technical details, or skip ahead to the Q&A section for troubleshooting problems.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you ever verify your game files, you will lose any changes made in RebEd! You can backup your changes using the Save Settings and Load Settings options.

EDIT: If your RebEd doesn't work at this point, don't panic! The above steps work for me about 50% of the time, but there is another way.

ALTERNATE METHOD:

After completing all four steps above, go back to your Rebellion folder. Move the MDATA folder back into your main Rebellion directory, delete the Trick folder, and then copy your entire Rebellion folder. Go to another hard drive or partition and paste the entire Rebellion directory. Rename the folder to just "Rebellion". For example, if you installed Rebellion into C:\, then copy and rename the folder to D:\Rebellion.

This will mimic the CD. Go back into the registry and change DllLocation and TooBigLocation to point to this new place (D:\Rebellion as an example).

This doubles the size of your install, but it is still only 1GB so that shouldn't matter to most people. It does require a second drive or partition; hopefully that doesn't exclude anyone. Note that this second method requires the folder be named "Rebellion" and it must be in the base directory of a partition other than the one you installed Rebellion to.

If after doing this it still doesn't work for you, uninstall everything and try again. This time, skip the trick method and go straight to the alternate method.

Technical details and additional modding options

#1) Do not use RebEd's Partial Installer, scan for SWRE, or Manual SWRE setup. These features don't work with newer versions of Windows. Additionally, you cannot change an entire sector's colonized status in the Galaxy Mapper, but in the upper left, you can select "Systems" and do each system's colonized status individually.

#2) Below are some things you may wish to change which RebEd cannot modify:

a) Ships' models in tactical combat. Details here.

b) The AI Value setting can be changed with SWRE.

c) If you want to change the time it takes non-ship units to go from planet to planet (like personnel, facilities, and fighters without a carrier), here is how:

c1) Back up the GNPRTB.DAT file in case something goes wrong. (Find it in the GDATA folder of your installation directory.)

c2) Use a hex editor, like this one to open the file (not your backup!)

c3) Go to the hex addresses that correspond to the difficulty and side you want to change, then tweak the number however you like. For example, if you want units to travel twice as fast, change the default 64 to 32. (NOTE: single digit values, like 8, must be typed as 08. In Xvi32, use the Address -> Go To option to go directly to the address you put in.) Make sure to save the file when your edits are done.

Empire

Novice 00000032

Intermediate 00000036

Expert 0000003a

Rebels

Novice 0000003e

Intermediate 00000042

Expert 00000046

Han Solo

Novice 00000a5e

Intermediate 00000a5a

Expert 00000a56

d) A bug keeps you from skipping the briefings at the beginning of a new game. Renaming or deleting the files ALBRIEF.DLL and EMBRIEF.DLL will make the game skip them (AL is Alliance, EM is Empire).

#3) If you do move your Rebellion folder, you just have to re-edit your registry settings with the new values. It's focus is on editing all the DAT files, especially fields that we dont have access too with rebedit.

Keep in mind, this is a work in process, and I call this release beta1.2. For those programming minded folks, it's an MDI app using C# and .net2.0

What this means for everyone is that you need to install microsoft .net 2.0 and have rebellion installed.

Updated download link (4/21/07):

SWRDE download link

The .zip file has a readme (READ IT) and the .exe. the readme gives you a link to download .net2.0 if you dont already have it. If you are not sure if you have it, download it and install it from microsoft.

At this point, I'm interested in people who are willing to do some testing to be sure it works on their machine, and what ever other random problems crop up. I've made a gmail account(look in readme), so if you want to report any problems/bugs you can email me those and/or post on this forum.

Keep in mind that this project was basically for my own use, and I decided to fix it up a bit more and make it available to the community. All I can say is that i've had no problems with it editing the DAT files for my own playing/testing, but have no clue how it will work on a myriad of other machines. So use at your own risk. Just to be save, back up your data using rebedit first.

Read the readme while you downloading .net 2.0 as I've tried to include anything I thought was useful. The tool is not fully complete, but it's possibly useful to anyone building a TC. I've mainly used it to change things like family ID and research difficulty.

For fun I tossed in some rebellion, in game, sounds, it can play rebellion music from the CD if you want it too(requires CD in drive of course) and have a few 'hidden' sounds if you want to hunt for easter eggs

This project was purely for fun, so I can NOT promise much(or any) additional things added. This will depend on work/life stuff and whatever seems like it would be 'fun' to do.

Let me know what you think and I hope it's helpful.

ErrantOne

Hyperspace Speed Locations

So, for as long as I've played Rebellion (which is since it came out and I was about 10 years old), I have wanted to change the amount of time it takes for things to move around the rebellion universe. It didn't make sense to me that things should take half a year to move from one end of the galaxy to another. Years and years later, I finally decided to track down the values controlling the hyperspace speeds of troops, facilities, major and minor characters, and special forces.

I figured out that the default value for all of the above is 100. Rebed was very helpful as it let me change the hyperspace speed of ships until I found a value that matched the speed of characters. In terms of hex, this is a 64. Using a hex editor, I searched all of the files in the GDATA folder and found 64 in something like 45 files. I started going through these one by one, changing the 64 to 01 and testing. This was taking too long, so I picked the biggest .dat file in the folder and decided to start on that one. the biggest (10kb) file is GNPRTB.DAT. There are some 80 times the value 64 is found in this file. I started by changing chunks of values, and once i got a hit, I was able to narrow it down. To sum it up, I found the locations in the dat that control the default hyperspace speeds for most of the game objects.

Additionally, I had to find the correct values for the millenium falcon effect that allows han solo to travel 2 times as fast as everyone else. by default this is a game value of 50 or a hex value of 32. Turns out han's speed is in the same dat file.

The following table sums up the results I found. So each difficulty level has its own default hyperspace value, as well as each faction. I don't know if one faction can have a different value from the other for a given difficulty, but play around and you might be able to have a little more fun by speeding up this game. Note, you will need to use a hex editor to go to the listed address and change the default 64 to some other hex value. In the case of the millenium falcon effect, the default hex value is 32.

File name GNPRTB.DAT

Rebellion

	--- Novice 00000032

	--- Intermediate 00000036

	--- Expert 0000003a

Empire

	--- Novice 0000003e

	--- Intermediate 00000042

	--- Expert 00000046

Millenium Falcon effect

	--- Expert 00000a5e

	--- Intermediate 00000a5a

	--- Novice 00000a56

Transformers Rebellion...Anyone wanna help?

Hi. Anyway, I'm thinking about "re-arranging" the galaxy in a somewhat more accurate layout, plus I want to add in several systems that seem to have gone missing (Oooww, Master Kenobi has lost the Kamino system ), such as: Kuat, Fondor, Rendeli, Alderaan, Thyferra, Adumar, etc.

Now, awhile back I downloaded this galaxy map somewhere (probably here at SWR)

http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/6642/swstarwarsgalaxymapcf5.th.jpg

And now it appears somebody might have updated it with this one. There are several minor movements of systems, but more systems added.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/4122/swstarwarsgalaxymap2oe4.th.jpg

So, I have several questions:

1) There are several numbered "boxes" on the maps that make me believe that there are "detailed" layouts available ... somewhere. Has anybody ever seen these "detailed layouts" that correspond to these maps?

2) I've mentioned a couple of systems I would like to add; does anybody have other ideas (and why you chose that particular system)?

3) Since this is a total new layout, what systems would you like to have together in what sectors?

This could lead to more core sectors for this version of the game (i.e. more raw materials available, more populated systems, etc.). All of this can be done using RebEd and Resource Hacker; it just takes time. Please share your thoughts
