"Compile Script" problems

Hello again. Admiral Toguro here with yet another problem in my Rebellion edit. Part of my game involves replacing the Han Solo event with new images and stuff, and as a result, new text is required. I went into Reshacker and found the email I wanted, but it doesn't give me the option to "compile script". Soooooo, I can't change it! There HAS to be a way! If you can help me out of this mess, I may just be able to finish!

Hmm, what did the entry look like ? Was it simple text or did it look like hex-code ? (00 AA 04 FF ...)

IIRC Hexcode would appear if you changed a Card's ency entry through RebEd and then tried to edit it through ResHack.

As for the solution... pssst Mask?... [insert Mask's smart answer here]

You could also copy a fresh encytext.dll from the CD and directly replace the contents in it through ResHack.

Thats the problem. You cant change the text of the Han Solo event through EITHER Rebed or reshacker. Its not an encyclopedia entry, its the email that tells you "Han Solo was captured by bounty hunters", and other events, such as "The Alliance HQ has moved to ***" Theres not even the option to change these. Any advice?

Ok, I got it.

First, save the entry with Resource Hacker (action menu -> save resource as a binary file). Now save it as a bin file and use the entry number as filename, this way you’ll have less trouble finding the entry again later.

Then edit the bin file with a hex-editor, like Ultra Edit and overwrite the text on the right side, while totally ignoring the hex-code on the left.

Save the file again, replace the entry in the dll with your altered bin file … done.

Hi again. Sorry to bring this post back from the grave, but I just now got around to trying this. Rather than replacing the existing entries, resource hacker simply doesnt change it. I I downloaded Ultraedit, saved entry 28861 in the RCdata folder of TextStra.dll as a .BIN file, then edited it (leaving the two lines and weird dots alone, as well as the hex code), then tried to save. Resource hacker won't overwrite it. Any ideas?

Oh wow, am I an idiot. I've been doing this thing wrong the whole time. Seriously, I've been putting "BIN" as the file type in Resource hacker instead of the folder number. Okay guys, thanks for all the help, but now I finally get it.
