  1. Going good. Been busy latley with uni, end of semester projects and now exams (oh yeah, I should study for the exam tomorrow ) Once all that's out of the way, I'm going to get back to working on my models for Rebellion and Reloaded . . . not to mention a lot of R and R How have you been?
  2. I'm glad to see that LucasArts is trying to reverse their "Game Factory" image as of late by letting the programmers do the best they can with their games. Truth be told, one of the reasons I was thinking the game wouldn't be to outstanding was because of the relatively short amount of time they were given to work on the game. The extra time will definetly make the game better. Seems everytime news gets updated about the game, the game gets better
  3. Welcome to the forums Darth Tex It's always good to have new faces around the forums Wow, is that really you Antilles Long time no see! Welcome back
  4. There doesn't appear to be any limit supllied by the engine. That being said there are noticable slow downs with higher poly models in greater numbers - though I've only noticed that in high numbers, and with high poly models (over 3k polys, and a fleet of over a hundred ships). Keeping the model around 2 - 3k polys is probably the best idea for the game to keep it running smoothly at all times, assuming your fleets aren't huge. Preferably, for real optimisation, is to create three models for each ship - as Rebellion supports a LOD. Which would almost garantee the game to run well with very large fleets if the "far" models were very low poly. But that takes longer again to get one ship out and makes the file bigger
  5. Very nice Mad! I'm surprised at the poly count being so low considering some of the curved faces you've got. Most impressive indeed
  6. Could be It's Corellian so it would be very modular. I havn't made any stats for it yet - though it's going to be very robust and pack a mild, all round punch . . . unless there are any other suggestions Looking forward to seeing your ship Mad
  7. Wow, that is a hard choice Well, first off - I liked the Black Fleet Crisis series. Granted the search for Luke's mum was boring and didn't get there (but that's better than him finding his mum only to have it contradict the movies ), and Lando trip on the Vangaurd was just confusing to read. But it was nice to see him and Lobot doing something - and the rest of the series pretty good . . . except there was no huge battle between the 5th and the Yventha's fleet. Darksaber had it's upsides - though a lot of downsides . . . like the Darksaber It was a pretty dismail novel except for some of the more unique events like the two Republic fleets that were training, a huge Victory SD fleet, etc. but had a really bad case of the good guys must win. Planet of Twilight has an awesome front cover! I mean, look at it! But, it's VERY true in this case that you can't judge a book by it's cover - shame really, such a waste. I liked the author's writting style, but got bored crapless early on in the book and gave up on it. The same happened for The Crystal Star, and I never read Children of the Jedi - for good reason. But my vote goes for Crystal Star and the ulternate universe character
  8. Nine Inch Nails - Pinion
  9. Update sports fans! Just a quick few updates that I've been during in between studying for exams (you can see I've got my priorities ). First is that Corellian Firgate thingy-ma-bob I designed a while back . . now it has some textures http://img296.echo.cx/img296/3869/ontheway029xi.th.jpg Next is a pic I found ages ago when looking up reference pics for dropships (I wanted to design one, though never got past looking up images for it ). And the only working pic of it was the google thumbnails Please note, this is the REALLY high poly count version with stupid bits of detail you'll never actually see in Rebellion . . . so the final will be significantly cut down from the 5500 polys (so there wont be any actual panelling done with models or any turrets) and with textures. I'll probably use this one for its card or something . . . actually, I might use it as the "close" model http://img158.echo.cx/img158/6683/images6wg.jpg http://img158.echo.cx/img158/3003/transportcruiser057lq.th.jpg http://img158.echo.cx/img158/1273/transportcruiser045kf.th.jpg http://img158.echo.cx/img158/9805/transportcruiser024lv.th.jpg This pic was my original work on it - prior to my computer crashing and killing the model. This will probably be the real level of detail you'll see in game, for at leat the medium and or far model http://img51.echo.cx/img51/3639/transportcruiser013xe.th.jpg I guess I should also mention that I'm using it as a replacement for the Bulk Transport - so it's a troops transport with a bit of weaponary for defence. Once me exams are over I'll get my Majestic up and running and then work on all these other models I've started
  10. And just as quick they're saying words like: Death Star and poly count
  11. Wow, that's a lot of visitors! Not to mention new members
  12. Shimra was the Supreme Overlord, but Omnimi was pulling the strings Hopefully 0.5 will also give the AI the ability to build if they're the Vong
  13. The Assault Transport can lay mines - though you need to lay a lot, which seems to slow the game down a lot. Just read the units description to see if they can lay mines, don't go on mine icon. Also I've never seen a ship actually hit a minefield so I can't vouch for their effectiveness.

    Book

Well, it is better to read them all - but if you don't want to or can't locate them all (like me) Here's what I suggest: Vector Prime Dark Tide 1 (optional) Dark Tide 2 I havn't read any of the Agents of Chaos series - so can't say there Balance Point Recovery (becaues it comes with Star By Star) Edge of Victory II Star By Star Enemy Lines I & II (no real story impact - though a good, fun read) Traitor Force Hertic Triligy (Havn't read them, though I've heard they're good) The Final Prophecy The Unifying Force Even some of them, you don't need to read - but it makes things less complicated
  15. G'day plokoon, and welcome to the forums! !
  16. It's back! Ok, I'm back I've played my first game of Warlord 0.4997, or whatever it is with the patch, since . . . since my last post in this thread! Well, it was worth the wait. My first break from homework for a LONG while, and it was a warlords game. And a spectacular one at that. Technically, I had quickly tried out a few things with the game, just starting up the game and checking out what you can build - but that also taught me that if you want a fight early on in the game fight the Militia. The Empire takes a long, long time to build up - but you can't fight as the Alliance and not have the Empire So I gave myself three oponents - Empire, militia and for the hell of it YV. Well, I started building up quickly, and try out some of the newer units - like Corellian Heavy Frigates and Missile Frigates. I built up a few Ferrets and quickly sent them off to each base to see what was happening. Well, I was building up big and quick. The Empire wasn't doing much more than mining, the YV weren't doing squat and the militia already had a couple of Accumalators(?sp), Corvettes, Gunships and fighters. I just kept building up as per usual. But that ended a little while after my first RjSD was built, and those little accuma thingies from Episode II began hitting me. They're a lot stronger than they look, but don't pack much if any punch. My Corellian Frigates tore into them, though took ages to defeat them. And by that time they had worn down the shields of a missile frigate. By the time the second wave hit, my RjSD had moved to the front line and any worries just vanished as quickly as one of those little star frigates. Two and a bit salvos at long range destroyed them. Cutting a long story short, they continued to hit me with little ships as I built up. By the time I had a small fleet of BACs, RjSDs and small frigates, led by a Mediator, I pushed straight to their base and destroyed anything in my way. Still, it was a slug fest just because of all the ships they had. My little ships and fighters got cut down before I even reached their base, though I took out countless numbers of Clone war era ships and others. But something else happened as I reached their base. Well, two things - first my Strident got to about 60%+ completed and second I looked at the Imperial base. They had started building up a while back, and now had a contruction ship several modded Vics, a Dominator, their cheapest cruiser (forget it's name, think it starts with an A - Like Alliagance or something) and a World Devestator My base was gaurded with a Gollan III and II, an MC90 and RjSD and a couple of those life saving area shield generators. Now, my fleet is just about to rip into the enemy base and is on the other side of the map. I can't jump them back because of that Dominator and I can't attack it because it was in the middle of the Imperial base. The WD just headed straight for me and hardly winced at my attacks. Even a sqaud of K-Wings hardly put a dint in it. The few ships that came with it began firing on my two crusiers, so I got them behind one of my area shields so the could hold out. But nothing was stopping them. I found myself jumping from battle to battle, beating one enemy and loosing to the other. My only choise of victory would be to finish the Strident. Slowly but surely my forces demolished the militia (while taking a few losses), and my Strident got closer to completion as my forces held on for dear life - which meant my focus was soley on the fight at my base. But the WD was now past my Gollan III and destroyed my Gollan II. The III went quickly after - and that was just from the WD's normal weapons. Now, the next part made me crap myself. I started to send my cruiser shipyard away to saftey at the YV nav bouy which wasn't doing anything, but the WD was now targetting it and chasing it. It was sort of a race of tortoises, that slow. My shipyard was getting creamed from the WD's fire, and just as the Strident was about 95% done, a little blue line reached out and grabbed hold of the shipyard. I watched in horror as the shipyard first, slowly changed vector, and then accelerated closer to the WD - almost out of a movie. What happened next made me laugh. The WD got its prey, but not how it wanted. The shipyard collided with it, and while getting serverly damaged, took out the WD for me!!! I almost fell off my chair laughing at the irony. But, things didn't get better after than. Only a few percentage left for the Strident, my fleet returning to help my base and now my shipyard was still flying past the WD's wreckage and towards the Imperial base - straight at it. I got it to change course a bit, though it still slowed to it's original speed literally next to an ISD. Within a few second my shipyard was scrap, but not before leaving a little present behind. Ok, the present wasn't exaclty little - but I still think a Strident is a good present Well, after that was finished - the battle finised very, very quickly. It was an awesome game, and I'm trying another game with the same teams (minus the YV) and I'm havn't a pretty simular battle
  17. I finshed the single player example the other day, not to shabby Evaders. My only quam is the things like cutscenes whenever a TIE Bomber wing attacked - loosing the hub got a bit annoying after a while. Appart from that, it looks like you can do a lot with the single player campain. Looking forward to your next one
  18. Thanks for all the kind words guys, it's been a pleasure hanging around here for what seems like longer than a year. And I'm sure to be here for another year, at least P.S. I had a reply for this a day or so ago, but the net died and killed it
  19. I know how you feel Bill, I've only had ADSL for about a year - before then the good 'ol 56k modem running at 3kps usually. Get a program like GetRight that allows you to pause downloads - I use it all the time now, it's a life saver. Mind you, when LucasFiles went down it killed my donwload too
  20. To run RebEd you'll need to go to the idrectory that you installed it to and run the exe from there - not sure why it doesn't add one to the start menu, but you can always do that yourself. Once you're in RebEd, everythings pretty much self explanatory for editing units and structures.
  21. That MiG-29 is tempting - though I think I left my 1.7 million in my other pants - dang
  22. Sony says it was real game footage but no one belives them. Well the guys from E3 who are making the game clearly stated that it was a CG render and NOT ingame. I've just rewatched it, and there's no way in hell that's ingame - apart from the millions of polys per character, let alone the world, the particle effects for all the explosions, clouds the textures used, individual hairs that move, the multiple light sources using advance lgihting effects such as defuse lighting under the skin, the lack of LOD, the extensive use of motion blur and anti-aliasing, the entire clip was way way too scripted for ingame. The way the camera jumps around, your lack of cross hair, the way characters interacted with everything was too smoothly done, hell the main character never gets injurred!!! Even though there's a point where he's being shot at from above, runs into under the bridge where's there's a bunch of enemies and is literally just standing out of an explosion when that helicopter flies over and kills some friendlies. Even the main character's movement doesn't make sense. You can't move like that with a console controller, you'd have trouble doing it that smoothly, on such precise arcs on a PC with a keyboard and mouse. Don't know why Sony said that, when the devoloper openly admitted otherwise. I guess it's like what Microsoft did for Halo 2, the original E3 demonstration was nothing like what the game looks like now. Oh well, such is the world of consoles
  23. Well, I'm going to wait a while before I choose - even then I doubt I'll bother with another console. And, hate to burst your bubble B&R but Kill Zone 2's trailer isn't ingame. In fact, at E3 they said it took them 5 or so months just to make that video clip in CG which they hope will capture the way the game feels. Really annoying that, in other words they pay someone to make an awesome looking video of what the game might "feel" like when playing it. So it wont look that good, and we don't even know what the gameplay will be like. Actually, what was the point of that trailer apart from saying they're making a Kill Zone 2?
  24. http://img285.echo.cx/img285/3997/1000postsmall9yh.gif I've reached that milestone, 1000 posts And to make it better, it's also been exactly one year since I signed up! ! Big Version
  25. Ah . . . who said that? I said my 8 k dowload speed was slow, not my usual 30-50 k. Anyway, I finished dowloading it the other day. Mind you, when I tried to continue the download the site was down again and killed my download. The day after that, and it was fine again - though with a 20k/sec download. Kinda a weird, I've never had problems with LucasFiles before Still, got it now and that's all that count
