Umm...I have never read anything about a crystal burning out. The crystal doesnt power the lightsaber, its used as some sort of focusing mechanism and never in any of the novels I have read have I encountered anything about the crystal burning out. Thats just speculation on your part. Leia uses a new lightsaber every week cuz most EU writers suck and dont know what to do with her character.

I think one of the reasons Zahn did so well is he introduced us characters who werent some Mary Sue. And by that take a look at Corran Horn. Corran Horn seems to be the guy who can ANYTHING. Ridiculous. Mara is a logical continuation of what we know about Palpatine and his desire to use sneaky methods to ensure his power. Thrawn was a good villain because he wasnt some darksider who kept somehow appearing and Thrawn was good because he honestly thought he was doing the right thing. He may have had bad actions as a result of his motivations but he was an excellent villain. From that point on we got weirdoes showing up like Isard and Zsinj and lord knows what else. To me its a shame that GL didnt work harder with the EU writers to help make sure that everything was continuous. Now with his prequels Lucas has essentially destroyed everything about the EU. We see now that Thrawn and the clone wars that Zahn wrote about is going to be way off. We now have this midichlorian nonsense to contend with. Agh.

I am sorry but Darksaber to me was horrible. Kevin J Anderson made it seem like the battles between Star Destroyers and Victories was like ants attacking an elephant. He has no grasp at all of what he was writing. And then he had Daala be stupid and take a SSD and lose it near Yavin. I hated that novel. Most of the EU in my opinion is just horrible. I liked Zahn's novels and my only complaint with his novels is he is a minimalist and makes a galactic organization like the Empire and New Republic think that 200 dreadnoughts are really all that important....*shakes head*

Thats true that red lightsabers dont automatically equate to Sith, however using the movies only Sith Lords have used red lightsabers so far. Supposedly one of the reasons the lightsaber is red because the Sith Lord makes a synthetic crystal whereas most Jedi use a naturally occurring crystal.

Yeah...GL typically pissing on the EU as usual.

I would be a Sith no doubt. Red lightsaber. Nothing cooler than you dressed up in black and you hear the snap hiss and a red lightsaber appears.

The full trailer looks very very nice. I can only hope the movie will be good too.

Well many people have already made some very good points. In my opinion George Lucas has done some very stupid things. Midichlorians anyone? I also dont like how he edited the originals...fair enough in making enchancements that made the lightsabers glow better or cooler explosions but by making Greedo shoot first and those stupid dance singing scenes in ROTJ at Jabba's..urgh. George I think sadly has come under a lot of influence from his children and his desire to make SW a more 'kiddie' movie. Nevermind the fact that the first one and ESB was/were not necessarily geared towards kids with stupid cute stuff. Anyway, I think Hayden is a good actor. I saw some of his other movies. Natalie Portman is also a good actress. Unfortunately Lucas cant write or direct worth a damn and therefore those poor souls end up looking stupid on the screen but I dont blame them for that. This is what happens when one man produces and directs the whole thing. One of the reasons why the originals were so much better was because Lucas didnt have a circle of people who just kept going 'yes' and never disagreeing with any of his decisions. I also think he has a clear cut disregard for the fans who have made so much money for him. GL has pissed on the expanded universe, introduced stupid ideas and creatures like Jar Jar who serve no purpose whatsoever apart from to appeal to kids. He has re-edited what were already good movies and made them into cutesy crap. I will never forgive George for doing that. I hope Episode 3 will be the final moment. The trailer looks good..but on the other hand I have been burned by the other trailers for the other two movies and well I am not happy at how those turned out.

I come here for the forums and so I can still chat and see what Igor and Thrawn are up to..and some of you others from the old board whose names escape me at the moment. I also like the Rebellion support which is good for when I want to play a game.

I use Firefox and everything displays just fine.

Even with mods, I think this game will fail. I am sure it will be fun to play but the game overall IS NOT going to be able to be a Rebellion2. Its impossible. In Rebellion fighters could NOT just shoot a capital ship and all of a sudden the ship dies because fighters could bypass the shields. The scale for EaW is all off, 20 planets!!?!? It doesnt seem like characters and diplomacy will play a large role. Its essentially a game designed for 'small scale real time battles' thats just how it seems to me. Shame too really. The Star Wars galaxy is a rich one and its a shame that someone doesnt make a game that was as grand as Rebellion was but at the same time giving us a better fleet battle engine and making the interface a little easier to navigate through.

Ah you are missing out on the joys of RebEd. I edit my game heavily so there are MORE fleet battles...ships travel faster and maintenance costs are lower. Default or 'vanilla' Rebellion always left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I hated how long it took to travel and how long it took to build a ship. Back on topic.. my peeve with the SD (star destroyer) is that when fighting mon calamari ships...is it just me or do does it seem to anyone else that when a SD's shields go down the ship after taking a few hits loses the ability to fight back and essentially just becomes a useless hulk in space? I noticed the rebel ships keep fighting practically all the way to the death. I didnt like how SDs seemed to die so easily.

I figure since this thread is about 'addiction' I will mention how addicting Rome Total War is for me. I am playing the SPQR mod and man, its an amazing sight to behold when you march your cohorts into a barbarian army. Today just about a half hour ago I won a battle of 1000 romans (most of my units had been decimated in 2 subsequent battles) against a Gaul force of 3000+. I won...and it was awesome. I should have lost but Roman discipline carried the day and my cavalry rode down the attackers. All in all out of 1000 men I had about 500-600 left and the Gauls from 3000 had about 400 men left. Heroic victory!!

I am not sure I know what you mean Igor..... jk Heh your going to be uh downloading for a long long long time. Hey but overall did anyone think this game was better than the original KOTOR?

Heh, one could almost start a philosophical debate on this. Anyway, if one reads the EU..the Vong rampage through the galaxy. Had the empire still been in existance....the Vong would have been crushed. The Vong only succeeded as much as they did because the New Republic had bad..BAD political leadership and its fleet was way too small. An empire with Palpatine at the head with its vast fleet of Star Destroyers and lord knows what super weapons would have annihilated the Vong.

My only pet peeve with the Death Star is how easily it gets destroyed. I made the mistake of building one and not..NOT supplying the max limit of fighters the Death Star can house. I went into battle and the rebels initiated a death star attack run..and they won.When the Death Star got destroyed I lost a ton of support throughout the Core. Needless to say I wasnt too happy and I ended up reloading a game. I still like the SSD though. Hehe.

I myself have not seen Blackadder..but some of my british friends have told me if I liked british humor I should look into seeing the series. Rowan Atkinson is hilarious. His face alone makes me laugh.

Yes, I forgot which book exactly, but there was mention of either lava or fire. So its no surprise to me in that regard.

Eh these are the prequels...I already knew ahead of time how things would progress. The only thing that annoys me a little is that in AOTC there was no Vader. I wanted Vader to have appeared earlier..not in the 3rd film.
