No I think you are dead on. The game I think will be like what you said, it wont last long. Which I think is a shame. One of the things I liked about Rebellion despite its flaws and poor fleet battles is, once I got into it, it got addicting. I admit I mod the heck out of Rebellion with rebedit but still..it was a lot of fun for a while. I remember the first time I used the Death Star after building it and discovered that core planets hate it when the death star destroys somethig...and pow I had a huge number of uprisings LOL. But anyway, I wish this game was going to be bigger scale and actually kind of be more along the lines of empire building. SE V sounds pretty cool, I havent been reading on it too much so I dont know how its going but 3D huh? Pretty cool.

KOTOR II - The Sith Lords
Skynxnex replied to Cain's topic in Old Star Wars games nobody plays anymore -JI
The thing I dont like about Sith Lords is....where is Revan? I know they left the ending ambiguous as to what gender Revan was but with Sith Lords and assuming if Revan had won in KOTOR is...how is there a different apprentice than Bastila? -
I think we really dont know much about the other Grand Admirals. Thrawn was definitely one of the best...but the others we only catch little bits and pieces. And like someone else mentioned...I liked Dark Empire except for how they made it seem to be that Thrawn was a puppet etc...to me that just didnt fit in well.

Ah Valentines Day...I feel that this day just slaps you in the face if your single...sigh. I guess I am bitter and I know this is a rant, but I learned last year that well, you really shouldnt get someone something if they wont appreciate it. Namely, I sent a certain someone flowers and what happened, no call to thank me, instead she goes to a play with some other guy, who incidentally she ended up going out with even though he didnt get her anything. So, I am glad Vday has come and gone and I am not waiting happily for its return next year. *Shakes fist at Valentines Day*

Is what I mumbled after I deleated Galactic Battlegrounds after such high expectations from my HD. Apologize not for a rant, Lucas Arts have made it clear over the years of PC gaming they don't give a toss what we as the consumer have to contribute (other than with our hard earned wages); the continued-and quite frankly amazing-continued appeal of Rebellion is surely down to a formular their accounts department haven't yet figured. Scale. Creative Imput. Character Development. Imagination. Non-flashy stuff shagging non-high spec machines. I could go on, but I guess you get the idea. Why is it that new games these days have to be at the cutting edge of quite frankly what anyone can afford with graphic cards etc. Lucas Arts could have lifted all but but their little finger to make Rebellion 2, and without the need to have graphics in your face all over the place. I definitely agree with you. I remember back in the days of TIE Fighter...back then Lucasarts used to make pretty good games or at least I thought so. I remembered when I first played Rebellion that I was hoping it would be a dream come true. Finally an empire-building game set in the Star Wars universe. As it is Rebellion kind of let me down. The ship combat was not at all what I had been hoping for. I dont care too much about the ground battle idea but I wanted to see fleets of Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari cruisers blasting at each other. Empire at War, to me it seems for a space game to be of very low scale, again I point out the 20 planets...and the idea of bombers somehow just penetrating the shields of a ship..to me this is just dumb. A Homeworld 2 idea was much better. In Homeworld 2 bombers and fighters arent the uber ships that it seems like they are going to be in this game. I agree about the non flashy stuff. Has anyone here ever played Space Empires IV? Its not flashy at all but it has good gameplay in my view. I would personally be very happy with Rebellion if the fleet battles were better implemented. I really dont want to see blocky ships firing one shots at each other. Everything else about Rebellion was fine in my opinion. This game, the Empire at War, it looks kind of cool, but man...I was really hoping it would be a successor to Rebellion.

I know I am going to be a killjoy here but honestly, I dont think this game is going to be all that good. I am sure it might be fun...but 20 planets in the galaxy!!?!?!! Like someone said before, this game seems to be nothing more than something geared at RTS neophytes. I liked the fact that in Rebellion on a huge setting there were 200 planets...and even then to me it seemed kind of small since most of those planets were in the Rim and had no real infrastructure. Empire at War seems to have the advantage of a much better graphics engine for the ground and space battles...something I wished Rebellion had....but the scale is sooo small in this game. I also dont like how bombers can now magically pierce the shields of a ship...lame. I know they are trying to make the game 'balanced' but on a whole the Rebels would have gotten owned by the Empire if it wasnt for the fact that in the novels as it was stated that the empire was spending a large number of its resources (fleets) on maintaining order. A galaxy is massive....To me this is soo small scale and just well lame in general. I guess this post is a rant and I am sorry. I was just hoping that a game that would sort of follow in Rebellion's footsteps would have been better done and with a larger scale so it would be a true heir. Oh well.

Hahahahah surgery and became Lando Calrissian. I thought it was pretty funny myself. Hehehe

I got the game. It was alright....but in my view it wasnt as 'epic' as the creators of the game were claiming it would be. I also have some other nitpicks with it...but I am hoping the modding community will step in and make the game a lot better.

I cant believe more people hated the spirit change at the end instead of that lame Jabba the Hutt palace song thing they put in. Also...Greedo shooting first is to me probably one of the worst changes Lucas ever made and it should be changed back.

Actually I finished college. I am trying to do Graduate School now and get my Masters.

I saw the extended version of ROTK. Overall the extended scenes were nice, my only complaint with the movie really is that after the Black Gate battle its still like another half hr before the movie ends. The movie was rather long to begin with and well movies...there is a point where you need to end it...we already know the movie is different from the books. Oh well...just my 2 cents.

The only way it could be a logical and realistic clone empire is if the stormtroopers for instance do not just come from Kamino. On a galactic scale a million troops is nothing. We cant apply earth-based military reasoning to something that is galactic wide...the scale would be very off. Coruscant for instance, a core world, has well over a trillion people on it. You can tell simply by the urbanization of the planet. We know from other sources that Coruscant is not the only planet where it has become a planetary city. A million clone soldiers would not be enough to hold Coruscant for instance....now if during the Clone Wars, more planets jump in and produce clones and can do it faster and so on then I will agree that then it becomes more feasible.

I saw the extended version of King this weekend. It was overall pretty good. I just think that they dragged the movie on a little too much after the Ring was destroyed. I know the books are long but I mean after the Ring was destroyed the rest of the movie is pretty much anticlimactic.

Ah Jahled...I was here on the 'board' before it even became the php version. This was back in the days of the EZ board. My 'real' post count should be something like in the thousands but college life and stuff took over more and more and so I stopped posting for a number of years.

A star wars FPS game...sounds intriguing to me.I am forced to agree with Igor in that it might be hard to get all of it coded etc. before the game loses its popularity but nevertheless..sounds cool and good luck if you go ahead with it!

LEC to make another RTS game.. and no, not Rebellion 2
Skynxnex replied to a topic in General Discussion
Its a good mod, I tried it out. Sadly I cant use the internet for a multiplayer connection because my connection is EVIL lol..nah it just sucks. -
Vakundok, while this is a fan discussion your ignoring something. Lucas has established a tier system with what is 'canon'. That means the rules of his universe. If we simply ignore the EU and decide ourselves what is what then anyone can make silly assumptions. The rules are we go by the movies and then the novels...if something is contradicted in the novels by the movies then the movies have priority. Thats how it works. Lucas has made it clear that the clones form the foundation of the stormtroopers...but he never said that stormtroopers will continue to be clones or that clones are constantly being made. Maybe in the new movie this becomes clear, but at the moment I dont know.
-
I know you didnt ask about the canon policy but I mentioned it because of a few things. First Lucas has only said that yes stormtroopers are clones. BUT he didnt say that ALL stormtroopers are clones. Since we dont see in the movies that specifically all stormtroopers are clones we are forced to use the EU, which makes it clear that stormtroopers are recruited from other member worlds. I know that the Tantiss place wasnt in operation till Thrawn came along. I only mentioned it to show that in order to realistically compete against an army of battledroids that can be completed very quickly. Numbers may not be a deciding factor but realistically an army of 10,000 clones will not beat an army of 1,000,000 battledroids. Not unless you have orbital support or some kind of outside help involved.

Thank you. To be honest I dont remember you at all but I do appreciate the welcome.

The EU = Expanded Universe Just so everyone knows, Lucasfilm has a policy regarding canon. Films are at the top followed by novelizations and then the EU...the rest are comics and tech books etc..with games being at the very bottom. Unless a film contradicts what we read in the EU, we can assume that whatever then is in the EU is in fact canon. What do we see in the movies: We know the clone army came from Kamino. We know that something like 200,000 units are ready with a million or something to go. Now keep in mind its not clear what a 'unit' is. It could be a unit of regiments or battalions or whatever. Anyway I think the word unit could just mean 1 single trooper. We see that the CIS has a TON of battledroids. Now, just going off what is in the EU, we know the Empire at its height had over a million member worlds. Its pretty clear that in the end the Empire has to either get fresh troopers from conscriptions or recruitments OR other worlds have to be producing clones. But even then, it would take a LOT of other worlds producing clones. Now, in the Thrawn Trilogy, the Admiral was able to create fully grown clones in a matter of weeks. If something like that could be achieved then clones would be more economically viable.

Ah its been such a long time since I saw a space battle in Rebellion. I do have to say those are pretty cool screenshots though. Kind of making me want to play the game again actually....
