  1. Anyway, back to the topic of WTF moments. I have one. I went to some restaurant, maybe it was McDonald's. Keep in mind I live in the US now. So I get in line and I am about to order something and the person behind the counter is a latino. That lady couldnt understand a thing I said. Now, I speak very clear english and never really use any slang. The point I am making is that she was doing a job where she has to deal with customers and the dominant language of the US is english. Needless to say I wasnt very happy that it took me like 5 minutes of pointing at the menu and speaking slower to see if she understood what I meant. Eventually I did get my meal. Word to the wise, when you go to a country which has a dominant language...please try to speak it.
  2. My point is that in the LOTR books, the events in the movies are often 'out of place' because Jackson has decided for whatever reason to do certain events which were in one to do that in another movie. As for your point about the cartoon, no argument here on that. However, I am not Lucas and thats what he decided to do. We can debate the tactics and strategy used in the Battle of Coruscant for forever. I can see your point about just sending Grievous on a mission but one has to remember that a lot of this is for show. Remember Sidious again is the one pulling the strings and most of the Clone Wars is nothing but a huge dramatic show, a show whose only purpose incidentally enough is the eradication of the Jedi. Thats the only objective that the clone wars serves for Sidious. As a side thing, it allows Sidious to get even more political power. Keep in mind I am not 'arguing' with you, just trying to explain why it was done a certain way thats all. Lucas is the storyteller not me. Personally I think that Lucas went off the deep end a while ago and is not a good storyteller so much anymore. But thats my opinion.
  3. Personally, I would argue that restricting the number of planets based on hardware is nonsense. A true PC gamer is usually someone who has been constantly upgrading their machine to stay current with technology. Catering to people who still use for instance a Pentium II machine is just dumb. People with those machines still probably only play Solitaire. Think about this, the galaxy is realistically a big place. With billions..BILLIONS of planets. 50 is not even a drop in the bucket.
  4. Not me. I find after editing in RebEd I have way too many ships and I start running out of creative names to call them all.
  5. Someday I will reach my 1000th post...some day.
  6. Interesting, very nice of you to post that Thrawn. I myself was wondering about this traitor thing since I have had this happen to me a few times but didnt know how to deal with it.
  7. Speaking of that, I have heard that the French have in fact voted NO as to the European Constitution citing that supposedly too many concessions were made to Britain. *I am incorrect the French havent yet voted..buts its expected to be a NO vote. http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,1564,1557400,00.html Very interesting the developments there in Europe.
  8. Nice. Usually when a game starts for me I have NO research characters. And I have to recruit them all. And since I am the Empire that means when I fight the Rebel scum they usually are using much better fighters than I can throw at them and then I lose some of my capital ships. Booo.
  9. HAHAHAHAHA. Well I do admit she is rich...but ugh she is soooo dirty.
  10. Whoa whoa whoa, how did you get the Imperials to build that many Super Star Destroyers?
  11. Well, some people when I left the theater after seeing the Fellowship of the Ring went and said, "Is that it?". Some people didnt read the book it seems and therefore didnt understand what all was going on. Also, I will admit there were somethings that Jackson did which I didnt like, I have read the books numerous times and he split the movies rather oddly. Shelob for instance and a few other factors which were odd. Oh, the sword which cut Sauron, that sword was already reforged but in Return of the King they make a big deal out of making it again. Well you have to remember, the Jedi dont know much about the Sith. Also, see that seems logical to you but not to me. Palpatine and Dooku know how logical it would be to get Anakin to turn. In the novel again, one of the reasons why Palpatine was kidnapped was because Dooku was going to be given amnesty. The Empire would still get formed and supposedly Dooku was to help train darkjedi. Anakin was supposed to be one of those dark jedi. Dooku didnt realize that Palpatine was in fact going to supplant Darth Tyranus with Darth Vader. Again I refer to the novels, in one of them about the clone wars, Dooku orders General Grievous to not harm the Younglings. Why not? Because Dooku knows in the future the war will be over and he wants to train the new dark jedi. Unfortunately, I do think it is a bad argument but you have to remember. The Clone Wars cartoons came out for a reason. They filled in the gaps between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. In fact the cartoons literally ended where Revenge of the Sith starts up. It was part of Lucas' effort to sort of create this epic saga. I will say this though, a book helps to fill in gaps in terms of what we saw on screen and what is actually happening. We can for instance get into a characters mind and see what they are thinking. This is why for instance I know that Mace didnt really win when he and Palps were fighting. He wasnt even sensing Darth Sidious' fear but Anakin's. Sidious KNEW he wouldnt die or lose. Grievous had no choice really. In the cartoon at the end he was ordered by Sidious to launch an attack on the Republic capital. This is also the result of a new Separatist offensive which sends the Republic reeling. In a way it does make sense, if by capturing him they can force a negotiation or a diplomatic move they can end the war. The only thing is, Palps again knew which way he wanted the war to go. See, he had to make the repuhlic think they were going to lose otherwise he couldnt get more power voted to him and so on. I am not sure I understand this part. Which is exactly my main point of criticism: the movie doesn't give the viewer enough insight in the deeper motives... And I agree, also it should be noted that in an interview...and the link escapes my memory at the moment, but in this interview someone asked Lucas about this Darth Plagueis who was some kind of super powerful Sith Lord about his power to use the midichlorians to create life. And Lucas said he intentionally left it vague for us the audience to figure out on our own. Was Anakin created by Plagueis? Or was it something that Palpatine was just saying. I am inclined to think that maybe Plagueis did create him. In the movie Palpatine admits he doesnt have the power like his mentor did, but together he and Anakin could discover it on their own. Or something to that effect.
  12. How many examples do the movies show, in your opinion? I may have overlooked that but, how is this clear? Well as to your point directed at me, you have to remember that Anakin sees Palpatine as a sort of friend and mentor. He tells him everything it seems. Palpatine knew about the Sand People and how Anakin killed them because of what they did to his mother. Anakin told Palpatine this stuff. It doesnt require a huge leap in logic to see that Palpatine knows that Anakin is being singled out by the Jedi. Indeed you can see the interaction being played out in the movie where the Jedi seem to not trust Anakin. When Palpatine appointed Anakin to the Jedi Council, they didnt trust Anakin and assumed he would be spying on them. They then wanted Anakin to spy on Palpatine. I mean, also since Palpatine asked Anakin what it was the Jedi wanted him to do that made Anakin feel uneasy...its pretty obvious that Palpatine knew what all was going on. Palpatine literally is the master manipulator. On the Star Wars website his power has been listed as being on a par with Yoda's if not more powerful. And from the novels we know that Palpatine has a great gift for using the Force to see the future. Throughout the movie, we see Palpatine place himself in harm's way. This is characteristic of what he does in Return of the Jedi. Its because Palpatine trusts the knowledge given to him via the Force and his gift for foresight. If you re-watch the Mace and Palpatine fight just look at it this way, Palps takes on 3 of the masters and destroys them...fast. On the Star Wars website, those 3 masters are not pushovers, but are considered to be some of the most powerful when it comes to using a lightsaber. And Palpatine went through them like it was nothing. And then with Mace Palpatine was taking his time. He knew Anakin would come. Look how he lost his lightsaber shortly before Anakin came in. In the novel, Mace 'thinks' he is detecting Palpatine's fear and shatterpoint. He realizes only after Anakin takes his arm off/hand off that he had detected Anakin's fear. Palps in other words HAD NO FEAR and knew he wouldnt lose or die. Also, I cant help but sympathise to some extent with Anakin's plight. Its been acknowledged on other novels and on the SW databank that some of the masters had love interests going on with other Jedi. Its therefore hypocritical for the Jedi to be telling Anakin that if he were married or something thats it and he gets kicked out of the Jedi. Yoda telling Anakin to train himself to lose all attachment...wtf? Easier said than done Yoda. Here is Anakin, trying to talk about his problem and instead his advisor just dismisses him with some nonsense about attachment and the darkside. One thing that bothers me is that the Jedi in the Old Republic try to act like they are beyond emotions which is BS. Emotions are fine, just learn to control them. Using your anger though, thats what leads to the darkside. But anyway, Palpatine was definitely a more sympathetic figure to Anakin and I can see why Anakin decided to follow him. This obviously doesnt excuse his actions such as slaughtering the Jedi etc but you get the idea. One thing though that did bug me about the movie was the ease with which Anakin defeats Dooku. Dooku was supposed to be roughly on a par with Yoda and Anakin defeats him fairly easily. Yet when he fights Obi, its this long drawn out fight. Also that end part where he jumps. Anakin should have just lightly jumped off onto the bank or something, but I guess the point was to show that Anakin despite being very powerful was brash and impulsive and didnt think in terms of tactics and strategy in his fights and instead just brute-forced his way around. Hence Obi-Wan beating him.
  13. I agree!
  14. I really dont like that woman. I dont see how people think she is attractive and I personally see her as nothing more than a slut really. I mean come on, a video of her uh engaging in an adult act with someone was leaked onto the internet...tsk tsk tsk. Lets put it this way, if she were to lets say appear in front of my house and ask me to marry her or something like that, my answer would be a no. She is so dirty..I wouldnt touch her with a 10ft pole.
  15. Thats what I mean, in order to put songs on your iPod your FORCED to install iTunes and then your forced to start organizing songs and so on in it so you CAN upload it. A clever way of not only making you use it to transfer songs BUT now that you organized your songs in iTunes because you had to mind you, now its like "Well since they are all organized why not use it to play stuff?" and there you have it. Another clever way of Apple to try to gobble up market share of computer audio players.
  16. Some of your points Scathane I want to point out were addressed in the novel or the cartoon. For example, in the novel I think it was hinted that Dooku was to be given amnesty and the blame for the atrocities such as Base Delta Zeroing planets would be blamed on General Grievous since he is the overall military commander. Dooku was also under orders on the ship not to kill Anakin, the goal was for him and Palpatine to turn Anakin to the darkside. Unfortunately, Dooku didnt realise until the end there that Palpatine was tired of Dooku and wanted him gone. Thats why when Palpatine orders Anakin to kill him Dooku looks at him with this look of betrayal. I will admit though that unless you read the novel or saw much of the cartoon you wouldnt understand what all was going on.
  17. I usually follow the convention of the ship abbreviation and then the name. That way I know what the heck ship it is. Example, if I just built an Imperial-II star destroyer I name it 'ISD2 Shipnamehere' that way I can tell what the class is.
  18. Hmmm. Well, I havent looked at those settings in a long time but one of the tricks is to lower the materials cost. Also, on the Shipyard thing in RebEd, there is some number that deals with production. The lower that number is the faster it builds stuff I think. I might have that backwards.
  19. TIE Defender owns the E-wing
  20. Um...I dont know your computer knowledge but maybe try running the game in the Windows 95/98 compatibility mode. I hope that helps.
  21. That doesnt seem like a bad idea at all Paul. In my experience and I dont know why the AI does this, but the AI loves to bombard worlds. Even if it damages their popular support, the AI will literally bombard any/all of the worlds it can back to the stone age. I find that in some cases even a military bombardment can be disastrous to my popular support.
  22. Hehehe. Yeah, I wrote this as one of my gaming stories for the first time I decided to try out the "commence primary ignition" capability of the Death Star. The vast number of uprisings alone made me reconsider my action. I also had to load a save cuz my empire essentially became a quarter of what it once was due to uprisings.
  23. Guys internet explorer is better Just kidding! Anyway seriously, I use firefox and sometimes I am forced to use Maxthon and both times I access the website I have had no issues.
  24. If they are Gencore IIs..and there are two of those bad boys...good luck breaking through that. Perhaps using Evaders idea of the two gencores is not bad..but also just mix in 1 turbolaser battery. That way everytime the enemy fleet attacks and if they dont breach the shields..it increases the chance of a ship taking damage or getting destroyed. I remember the first time I played Rebellion and tried to bombard a planet thinking it would be fun and dandy...only to discover that the 2 shield generators stopped all damage and the turbolaser battery on the planet destroyed one of my Victory's and damaged one of my ISDs.
