  1. 'fraid not. From my experience of other games, the removal of the pop cap CAN result in the processor dying. It hasn't happened to me, but I don't tend to remove the pop cap and flood maps with so many units there's no ground to be seen.
  2. I'm thinking a hell of a lot of units The possibility is there. I mean, some smartass will obviously group their full fleet together at one time or another. When that does... something's gotta give. It's the possibility that it can kill your cpu that I'm thinking of, not that it always will.
  3. I voted yes, but before everyone starts thinking I'm insane, let me justify my decision. Too many units on screen can lead to serious problems. I'm not talking game wise, I'm talking cpu wise. When the graphics card and processor explode from trying to handle too many units on screen at one time and all the data each carries with it, that's the point where you would begin to regret it. It's there for a reason. As a gamer I would love no pop cap, but this isn't an ideal world, and I know my cpu and others wouldn't like to have to deal with that many units. The truth of the matter is to not have one is still a dream as of yet, and I wouldn't want to have to miss it when it does go.
  4. I suppose it's possible, but we've seen no evidence for it. To have them shooting would render the normal AA a bit more useless though. Perhaps if their damage output to air units was lower than normal AA it might work ok. It's again the issue of SW realism vs decent gameplay.
  5. For those who don't... a nebula is basically dust and gas in space. Because of the various gasses, they are often brightly coloured when lit up by neighbouring stars. The word nebula is also Latin for 'mist'... And the big swirl on the minimap is basically the spiral of a galaxy (one far, far away), not of a nebula. To be a nebula that size is... well, would make it ridiculous.
  6. There rae bound to be limits. You can't expect an average to low computer to be able to handle that many units on screen at one time without problems. Also imagine lag during the multiplayer skirmish and campaigns. The way I see it there will be a map limit, so only a certain amount can participate during one battle, but the galactic map limit will be infinite.
  7. I'm hoping this might be one of the things you can change with the XML files. I mean, I probably wouldn't use it myself, but it would make sense to have the ability. That way you might have more fighters etc per group just by changing the values to higher ones.
  8. Ok, I can see the blame lying more with him if a little more research into the potential problems could have solved a whole lot of hassle. Don't forget it's easy to look at this in hindsight. At the time I don't recall any others pointing out this flaw (admittedly this may be because those who predicted it all believed it had been sorted). But since this had happened before in the same place... maybe he didn't put enough work in beforehand as there should have been. I have no idea what age DMUK is, but I'm not going to start thinking about this in terms of that. In all reality it shouldn't matter. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, regardless of age.
  9. True, it wasn't his fault per-se, but if you've arranged a proper interview of this maginitude with the developers you are expected to expect the unexpected... like swiftdraw said on the forums about Murphy's Law. I do hope the guys at Petroglyph don't take offense (They probably won't, but the reschedule may have been awkward).
  10. What can I say... priceless
  11. To be fair Joe doesn't specifically mention hard points there, he just implies units will have their own upgrades. So ties will have a specific upgrade for shields, lets say, and star destroyers will have one for armour... So like Delphi said somewhere, it's the more conventional means of research for a RTS game
  12. Yeah, I must admit I'm looking forward to the multiplayer campaign too. There aren't too many games out there with a two player campaign, I can see myself spending much too much time on that with friends.
  13. I usually have a relatively small force compared to everyone else, but it usually composes of the most upraded or the two that most complement each other. I go for quality, but sometimes the swarm of other players takes it's toll on my smaller group. In terms of powerful unit, depends whether I need them. Having an early defence in a powerful ship may work wonders, but if it's not required to repell early rushes then I might as well use those credits on upgrades and smaller more effective units.
  14. That sounds very cool. I always figured you just assigned ties to ships. Then again if the ties are weaker that makes sense. Presumably late game when both teams have resources and upgrades this is one of the features the empire has to keep up with the more powerful X-wings. I wonder if this 'ability' has to be researched, or can just be done from the outset.
  15. You guys would whip me at starcraft I'm sure, but I do have a copy of that game. What about counter strike source? I notice that isn't up there in the list either.

^ give that guy a hand everybody... MI all the way. And maybe Yoshi's not King per se... but he does better any other videogame dinosaur I can think of. Hence he becomes the 'King'. Also, while there are different colours, you naturally think of the green one. He's Mario's chum... he stands out among the rest.
  17. Yeah, I can't even imagine how wide the forum would be with only 800 by 600 res now...
  18. I can see it now: Palpy - If you strike me with your cane, I will strike you harder with mine. Yoda - If strike me with cane you do, with mine I stike you harder will... Stick Wars... attack of the canes... Ok, that's enough of that out of me. Best go to bed before they get the people in while suits again.

but not dinosaurs... Hence Yoshi rules King of Dinos. 'Nuff said.
  20. Still quite a way left to go. Keep in mind it's quite a slow influx of people. I'd better keep the black furry piece of pizza safe while we wait. I might get hungry in the meantime...
  21. Woah, I completely missed that lightsaber thing, even though I spotted Palpy there This is cool, my brother asked about this a while ago and I had nothing I could tell him. But a pic of Palpers with a saber... that's just too good.
  22. I got called a dinosaur for wanting a floppy disc drive when I got my computer last year. The one who called me it was right, I just use usb sticks now, even when I have the option of using a floppy... My usb floppy drive sits dormant, never used. Poor drive.
  23. I'm sorry, but because I have no regular income I can't afford (or would want) to race out and buy lots of games when I have other priorities. Ok, so I'll likely get some of them that I don't have, but in what time frame I can't say... I'm not going to instantly go and buy games just so I can play them in the 'clan', but I will join in with any games that I have or get. EAW and ROL are likely buys though.
  24. That's brilliant. I agree with you a little on the right hand side, but to be fair it's perfectly acceptable with the current picture. I also wasn't sure, but the petro/fan forum logo looks a little off centre... if it was a little more central to the banner that might be better. I really like it though. It just works so well together.
