yeah..I noticed Palpatine's capability as an admiral/commander/general as well; curious how it was scripted into the game...I guess the game-designers had larger ideas than the final project...

Agreed...trouble is after a year and a half of trying to 'inspect every cargo container,' in one of the early missions, I thought sod this for 'entertainment.' Yawn...that has to rank as one of the most pointless, infuriating, and computer-destructive levels in any game, ever; Damn! I'll go out and buy a Star Wars game to get stuck on a level inspecting cargo containers, helping out a sister who sounds like she's got two corks stuck up her nose! Unless anyone has got any helpfull suggestions, above and beyond 'you must remember to do this,' or 'try doing this,' (IE: a very 'helpfull' cheat to bypass this most agonizing level), the XWA disk is going to end up being used in my ongoing war with the neigbours opposite as ammunition, as we argue about Drum & Bass noise levels; when i'm trying to command my galaxy...or chase my cat around around the house.

...oops! Gosh, the thought it might be slowing other people's speed down never occured to me. If it's shagging other people's connection speed, I am truely sorry. I did it at work, and when I got home checked it to see if it worked and if it had any effect on overall performance. I didn't. With all respect dude, i'm not entirely certain it's the reason for your computer's performance. I'll hang on just to see if I get any other comments before removing it, unless requested to do so by the swrebellion staff. If I do i'll remove it immediately and apologize. Just double check your connection-speed, though, and let me know.. Heck, I almost feel like Needa...

..a game I used to play alot before my computer started to crash every time I put something other than Rebellion in. I do remember creating a few maps with the ingame editor where you could include Darth Vader and Boba Fett on your side...despite the rather limited options it seemed like evolution from editing other people's Red Alert Maps (I could never be bothered to kick off from scratch with all those cliffs; i'd just give player 1 a para drop of, amongst other things, Albert Einstein jumping out of an aeroplane shouting 'Where's my chalk?'). I guess when I get the new computer i've been promising myself for a while now, i'll be able to have a fresh look at a number of games i've been unable to play for a while; GBG & Jedi Outcast included...

Moving back to the question in hand, i've tried to replace the tactical game starfield with a reasonably simple starfield picture I downloaded from NASA's picture archive at spaceflight.com, and it didn't work...damn! Despite there only being a trickle of apparent interest form others. I think i'm really onto something here. It would be seriously cool to our tactical battles against the backdrop of a more colourful/detailed starfield. An example of what i'm ranting about would be foud here: X ...if I knew how the hell to post an example. If one of you guys would be kind enough to do it for me, i'll email the picture to you, you post it, and hay presto; everyone goes; 'Heck, that's one hell of a darn fine idea, why didn't we think about this years ago?' And one of the more active brains among us does it, reports it works fine and how much better seeing a Star Destroyer take out a Corellion Corvette against the new starfield is, and tells the rest of us how to do it....(collapses to the floor catching breath back...)

Elvis, have you thought this one through? How exactly do you include the galaxy gun in the game and maintain playability? The Empire could just sit on Courscant taking pot shots at the Alliance anywhere in the galaxy. Game balance would just dissolve...

Simple question really, when using resourse hacker to import the fighters from the fighter download, which way round do the two model sizes go? Also, which Death Star picture do I use? Finaly, a Milenium Falcon in the tactical game? Rah! If anyone can crack that one i'll say a prayer for them every night!
