Can importing a new galaxy map be done?

 

Wouldn't it be cool to revise the galaxy map, especially now that there appears to be an 'official one' (>source: The Star Wars Encyclopedia published by DeAgostini). Aside from enlarging the galaxy, we could perhaps have two new inclusions (mainly involving the tactical battle): First, the grave yard of Alderaan as a system (not that you can do much on it though, besides perhaps having mines in the asteroid fields....)

Second, how about the concept of 'deep space' where you can hide fleets. The tactical picture could be a picture of the galaxy (> like the end of The Empire Strikes Back). Perhaps deep space systems would be randomly placed systems across the game map, or buffers inbetween every inhabital system...(my mind is harking back to an old role-playing game called 'Traveller' in the 80's with it's cute hexgonal map. For every star system there were four or five empty regions of space).

We talked about this somewhere else, though i can't remember where. We could see if it's possible to create new sectors, and hence planets, then we could not put a planet in and leave it blank. By increasing the number of these we could have say half the map as totally blank but you could still send a fleet there? I don't know if that can be done, i'll give it a try over the weekend.

In the Strategy.dll I successfully changed some bmp to make a certain planet type loook like an asteroid field. In Rebed I changed some systems to be asteroid fields, I substituted Ghorman with Alderaan, and removed the colonized check, it will s till have resources but no population, still in tactical battle there will still be a planet not an astoroid field...

What happens if you go back to a system where you've already blown up the planet? And then end up having a battle there? What do you see in the tactical screen instead of a planet?

...emmmm........emmmm.....good grief, it would seem in all the long years i've been playing Rebellion I don't think i've ever had a battle at a destroyed planet. Now i'm real curious..... if there is an asteroid field, there's a DLL somewhere; if so, there's an image to exploit....

Interesting idea. The AI never followed me to an abbandoned asteroid field. I will check it out in multiplayer mode. But as I can remember, there is no picture of rocks in the tactical game...

The game has both strategic and tactical pictures for the asteroid field, I really do not know why it canot be selected in RebEd.

Come on guys, how cool could this be, battling in front of an asteroid field, with a DS in for good measure. I don't have multiplayer capability, so please let me know asap!!!

...didn't get much sleep last night....swetting, tossing and turning, apparently mumbling and muttering gibberish....woke this morning shivering with a furry face staring at me....the shower water took ages to warm up...as did finding a matching pair of socks...turned on the radio, two blokes having an argument about some war about to happen somewhere east of my local news agent...didn't seem to care....left the house....sludge and bits of ice where there had been snow....the icy wind went straight through me....got to the tube station....lots of people looking sleepy....packed like a baked bean on the train...tried reading the Guardian but the words seemed to fall over the pages onto the floor....got out at Kings Cross to a drizzle of icy rain...no umbrella...reached for a fag....forgotten my lighter.....got to work...asked Rosie to make me a cup of tea...dumb blond left the tea-bag in...again....pressed the return key, shhk the mouse....nothing...looked down...IT department taken hard drive....angry phone call..lots of shouting...IT department appears with hard drive...something not quite right....something on my mind.....angry client put through....Reuters chasing a package to Zurich...I clear my throat:'Chasing your asteroid-field, arn't you!'

Well it does work, but it's not very beutiful.. The screenshot I've made is from an ideal distance... If you're zooming in, the asteroid field will collapse into huge pixels....

It would be pretty cool if the maps were a little bit more true taking in consideration the PT plus any other EU sources. Considering from some of the characters are EU, there is more room to play around a bit.

Most likely we won't but there is still hope. Jahled did find out what LOL was, we may yet find out what was meant with PT....

Given I learnt LOL could possibly mean 'lots of love,' i'm going no where near this one....

Is it just me, or are there huge discrepancies between the "map" used in SWR and other (official) galaxy maps out there?
