  1. In which book was this? Darksaber I agree with Conway, there were to many "rebels must win" books (And I'm a Rebel or New Republic man ) and she was constanlty written poorly. The irony is that she is always mentioned in the novels as a great stategist, yet theyt never make her one. The closest was when Daala attacked Mon Calamari, yet that was with one of Tarkin's strategies and was easily foiled by Ackbar. Which brings us to a second point, writers who don't know enough about the Star Wars characters and ships. In the same novel where Mon Cal is attacked by Daala (I forget which novel), it says something like a single squadron of B-Wings held off at least one ISD. Or in Destiny's Way, a good novel, where the New Republic forces late in the fight against the Vong are said to be using mostly Rebel era ships - like MC80s. The only new vessels were those that had been frequently mentioned, such as the Ralroost. Now to further strengthen an arguement that needs no more strengthening, the aurthor admitted in an interview that he only had old resources and had he had uptodate specs etc. he would have used them. To the point, there's a simple lack of continuity in the EU community. The X-Wing series was the first EU series to keep continuity between novels as well as with the rest of the SW universe (albeit, there were a few fubars there as well), though that was between only two authors. the NJO series seemed to me like a project to rectify this - and for the most, it worked. Now, before you get any misconception, I'm a big fan of the EU. Though, like others (I think it was Trej who brought up this point), I'd like to see the novels reflect the original trillogy in the writing style focused on a few main characters rather than the very large scale and broad focus as of late.
  2. Dang, that's large - I'll have to wait until my brother stops download crap before I get it, though it shouldn't be too bad with broadband
  3. Well there are plug-ins at least for max that allows you to select sections of a mesh and it creates a texture of the wireframe. I've got one on my PC somewhere, though I havn't used it for any of my textures. I simply look through one of the view ports, front, top etc. and render it - so for GMax, you'd take a screeny. Then in photoshop or equivalent, draw your texture and then apply with Mask's method.
  4. Hmm, Mask made an awesome texturing tutorial . . . though I can't seem to find it. The gist is as follows: After creating a section of your texture for a part of your model (say the top of an ISD's) select the appropriate faces and detach them, which is done through the editable mesh function. Give the detatched face a planar UVW map, and apply the texture. Now add a UVW unwrap map, which allows you to edit what section of the texture is on the mesh. Mask's tut explains it really well, and with out it I'd never have been able to do proper texturing

  8. IC (3099): The fireball engulfed the Seperatist droids that had followed them into the cavern, leaving only a few left standing. Those were quickly dealt with by the remaining Clone troopers, who had been cut apart by an enemy straffing run. "Use this time Clones, reload your weapons and prepare any equipment you've got, " A-23 called out. This meant that they'd be sticking with the fight until a safe passage out of the caves was found. 3099 turned to his squad who had become disorganised, "Squad, fall in. Use the rock shelf for cover, and set up our heavy repeater in the small ditch over there." As 3099 had finished relaying his orders, he moved into position holstering his side arm for a dead clones blaster rifle. A-23 had been ordering the rest of the clones into a defensive position, with the clones arrayed out in a semi-circle to concentrate fire on the cave opening. The bulk of the clone forces were on the flanks, while the Jedi and A-23 himself were in the middle. The clones weren't positioned well enough to stop the Droids from entering, A-23 seemed to have a better plan to let the enemy force into the cave were they would be hit by overlapping fire. Hopefully this would keep the droids pinned down, while ripping apart their ranks. IC (1138) Barely 30 seconds after 1138 had positioned himself to support the heavy repeater rifle the droids began to file into the cave. As they crept into the squads field of fire, 3099 gave his command. "Suppression fire!" With the order, blaster bolts flew across the cave from their flank. 1138 mentally noted that the Seperatist commander had sent normal battledroids in instead of their superiour Super Battledroids, it's definetly not a droid incharge then. The reign of fire stopped the droids in the march, forcing them to find cover as they entered the cave. The droids began to allign themselves againt 1138's squad, slowly advancing trying to get in a position to fire. A distant echoed command rung out from the otherside of the cavern as the other half of the Clone forces opened fire. The usually dark cave was now filled with a brilliant blue haze, though the second trap hadn't fooled the droids. As quickly as the droids had entered the cave, they now found cover from both sides of the firing line. The clones now found themselves being pinned by the supression fire of the droid army that was slowly advancing on their position. Undermanned, the only advantage the clones had in the cave was the defensive position. The few squads left were now heavily engaged against their droid counter-parts. Behind his helmet, 1138 gritted his teeth heavily. Sweat beaded down his face as he continued to poor down fire at the enemy. The usually combersum droids were using the terrain surprisingly well against the clones, too well. What was controlling these droids? Before 1138 could ponder his thought, the droids shifted their strategy again. Instead of their continued advance, the dug in and pinned the Clone forces - except the few units that were with A-23. What now?
  9. To my knolledge, you can't use the same model for more than one thing in the game - otherwise it crashes. I'm not sure if there's a remedy, though you could try to copy the model and give it another name so there's two of them. Havn't tried this before myself, so I'm not sure if it'll work
  10. Darksaber seemed to be one of those novels that had no point - if you read it or didn't it, it doesn't effect anything major in Star Wars (except the death of a particular character in a very boring fasion). What I didn't like about it was the inconsistancy with canon Star Wars material. Such as the Dark Saber itself, Ackbar's micro fleet standing againts Daala's (I think it was Daala ?) Super Star Destroyer and all those Victory SDs. Other than that, I didn't bother reading Truce at Bak (heard bad things), didn't even consider the Children of the Jedi, I started reading Crystal Star . . . and that's all I did with it. I actually liked the Black Fleet Crisis, though it could have done with some better writing and a more original story line. Other than that I thought it was good - but that's just me
  11. Nice, what was the animation of?
  12. Nowhere in particular, it was basically a compisition of a few ideas I had plus playing around with those "swivel" table top things on the chairs in lectures made me think of the wing things

  19. Haha, nice one GAT - funnily enough, I've experienced nearly everything that GIF said (except the lag) Those 12 year old kids yelling "Haxor" and that crap over their mics during the game just really bugs me to no end . . .
  20. OOC: Trej . . . Stellar . . . it's your move guys

  22. Here here
  23. Sounds cool Touch wood that it's as good as it sounds
  24. Tool - The Grudge True, I find CDs sounds better and the upcoming super audio CDs will be great. However, Vinyl does have this unique sound to it that makes older songs sound better. Though I've tested the theory of vinyl vs. CD, and on my dad's stereo the CDs usually sound better. . .
  25. Ah . . . . Jahled, I still see that Scout Trooper still bouncing along
