Wow, that is a few people I remember when I was shocked to see 80 people on the forum at once a year or so ago Oh, by the way J - nice cursor

Good to hear it's in HerrGeneral! ! And enjoy the manual It mgiht be big, but it's a good manual (unlike the Half Life 2, single leaflet of instructions)

I'm a fan of X-Men, and have been very pleased with how the two movies have come out. So, I'm eagerly awaiting the third installment

I'll second that, welcome back SS

The Defender is undoubtably the same, or originally the same, ship as the NSD. My little rant there was just one way fans have tried to justified the existance of both ships. I like some continuity in the EU cannon, so I generally try to fill in the gaps. My own personal answer to try and resolve the issue (as opposed to the two seperate ship classes that are almost identicle, as well as just writting off the DSD), at least for myself, to make both sides of the argument sort of follow through. Simply put, the NSD was the original ship, however considering the NR only produced the ships in limited numbers a constant upgrade scheme wouldn't be out of the question. Newer technologies allowed the NSD to later be upgrade to house additional consumables and other resources, additional fighters etc. The time these changes came into effect, the NR was already downsizing the navy and in an effort to keep the focus of these impressive warships as a vessel intended on keeping the New Republic safe from those who would attack her (and to stop the buracrats condeming the waste of resources to large warships that could be replaced with smaller vessels as they seemed to do with so many others) the vessels class was re-named to Defender. The change of face stopped the decomissioning of the series, as well as continuing construction fo these mighty warships. It's rather pointless, though for me at least makes some continuity in my mind at least. In the end I tend to agree with practically everything you say. And, as even the newer stats point out, it's practically the same ship with only a handful of upgrades which hardly warrents a new ship or any change to the original designation of of the Nebula SD. Though the new stats do make the the NSD/DSD a much more capable warship, which helps considering its numbers versus Imperial ISDs. Even in a straight up fight against an ISD mk II (weapons and armour only), I'd say the new NSD would win - add that to it's better speed and manouvreability and you've got a highly capable warship that would be meanacing to all but the largest of warships. Strong, powerful, difficult to hit with large salvos and it's capable of exploiting an opponents weakness. I rather liked a few other changes that the Starships of the Galaxy book brought out, such as allowing large warships to have Point Defense Lasers, even if not mentioned. The main benefit to this, is the fact that if you look at the armourment of some Episode III, they seem to be armed with a large number of weapons - but a lot of those are PDLs, making the "newer" ships seem less impressive. The only annoyance is that it doesn't say how many to give to vessels or give a rule on how to calculate it Just a suggestion to, you might try creating ship cards for the game for the new class ships (I'm assuming you know about Rebellion a little here). That way, you can spread the truth a little more I'm pretty sure that there aren't any cards for the EU ships I've made - except the Majestic I think. I havn't made any, and I'm currently just trying to get time to fix my new majestic design. But, feel free to create your own cards with descriptions, stats and names for them

Great finds Evo and Tex Why you should complete school And then some And then some more

While most of the vessels in the New Class were designed for specific tasks, two ships, the Sacheen-class Escort Frigate and the Majestic-class Cruiser were intended as modern all-purpose capital combatants. It is true that the Majestic has more advanced systems and as heavy armor and shielding as Imperator Mark I Star Destroyers, but it is understood that in a one-on-one battle, the Imperator would likely win, as of the New Class vessels, it is clearly indicated that only the Nebula-class has a good chance of victory going one-on-one with an Imperator-class Star Destroyer. Most of what I wrote was a mixture of re-written content from sources, as well as my own inference. The Majestic's setup makes it an ideal all rounder, with varying range weapons and capabilities, speed and armour. My point of saying it would be used as a fleet gaurdian vessel was aimed more at the way the NR seemed to fight their battles with these vessels (again, from other sources I've read and what I recal of the BFC). That being with carrier(s) being the main vessels of the fleet, and those carriers being protected from enemy vessels and fighters by other ships like say the Majestic (a vessel that could detere an ISD from striking the Carreir group head on) while the fighters and bombers of the fleet attacked the enemy positions. This tactic failed in the BFC for a few reasons - the primary being to much focus on fighters and bombers being capable of taking out capitals, while being unsupported by friendly warships. You are right that this is a very confusing statistic. There are two ways to reconcile this problem, of which you pointed out one, namely that the Majestic could simply be substantially more expensive to build and maintain than the Defender-class Assault Carrier. Given that five is a very odd (and very high) number of squadrons for a heavy cruiser with so much space already devoted to weaponry and shielding to be holding, some have taken a different approach, namely that the five squadron figure is probably incorrect and that the Majestic-class probably carries somewlere closer to three squadrons (one complete New Republic fighter wing). I tend to agree with you there, I'd originaly assumed that the MhC had a Republic Wings worth of fighters, and had planned on keeping it that way until I found a thread some where on theForce.net's boards regaurding the topic and that they came to the agreement of 5 fighter squadrons due to it being used several times in official RPG scenarioes. I for one havn't read or scene any of the scenories, so can't say if it was true - though, this argument was backed up by others so it seemed to be true. I've already implemented this into my models for the New series, I've generally chosen the best looking image and used that for one of the two, and modified the other just so there's some visual difference). In regaurds to the DAC and EFC, I've used their corrisponding sister class ships and added a pair of "flight" towers (just so there's some fluff behind the alterations - as they're dedicated carriers, the addition of individual control/flight towers to coordinate the fighters in battle maeks sense and allows the ships to be desitinguised at close range) *** Just curious on what you know about the Defender Starfighter. I know a little regaurding it stats wise - though little background story, as well as how accuarate the stats are. For starters, the stats imply (though don't directly say) that it's a two seater fighter - one pilot, one gunner. Also, it sounds as if it would by an ideally cheap fighter to spread throughout the New Republic's space to gaurd planets and outposts, as it would be cheaper to produce and maintain then any other NR starfighter. I would imagine that in the NJO timeframe (Which I mention a lot, as it's one of the latest time peroids written about, and was also very popular) there'd be a large quantity of these fighters mixed in the TIE Interceptors and even X-Wings as planetry gaurdians or used for other short range tasks, while the E-Wings and XJ X-Wings go with capital vessels. This is in contrast to the Defender, to my understanding, being carried into battles by carriers with the itent of being a primary fighter along side the E-Wing.

Ship Request: Republic Class Star Destroyer
Krytos replied to Defender_16's topic in Rebellion Model Editing
This much I knew, though after reading what I wrote last, it does sound as if I said the RSD was KDY. I was reffering to the Republic class Cruiser in the NJO series, as well as that vessel being 1 km long. This, I didn't know - but makes more sense. It always bugged me that the RSD and NSD (DSD by my books ) had practically the same weapons load, with the NSD being armed with morepowerful versions of everything. One thing that just sprung to mind about the RSD and the mix up, was its size. If the RSD was confused for the NSD - how'd they get the size of 1225 metres as opposed to 1040? Perhaps, it was just a thought by West End or is there something more? -
Hey shinsengumi, and first off - welcome to the forums! Always happy to have someone come along, especially when they have information to share. Most of my info on the EU comes from varied sources. Most local bookstores and even libraries don't stock too much Star Wars novels or otherwise (with exception of the NJO series). It's been a long time since I've gone though the Black Fleet Crisis, and due to my libraries lack of SW books, it wasn't in order. So, I'm not going to dispute any of your claims - actually commend you on gathering the resources together effectivelly. I've read on a few occations what you're talking about regaurding the NSD - and also tend to agree. At the same time, I read an article that swayed me to the "other" side (wish I could find it again ). All in all, I'm still gonig to call it a DSD (even though confussing), mainly because I like the name as well. Also, to note, is that the semi-rescently released Starships of the Galaxy, list it as a Defender class Star Destroyer with D20 stats that puts it in a little stronger, and more manouvreable than with the D6 stats, fueling the argument that the NSD and DSD are two different ships, with the DSD being a more modern version of the NSD. Of course, that's loopholed with various arguments - like why create a new class rather than upgrade the old etc. Of course on a technical point someone once mentioned, it could be argued that it should be the "Obi-Wan" class SD as the first vessel of the series was called the Obi-Wan . . . semantics really. In the end, it's your choice - and seeing that the models are now available, and you've probably got Rebellion, it's a simple process of modifying stats and names to suit. Of course, in the real end it's lucas owneth, and lucas changeth. Such as the original K-Wing, the "official" version has its own laser cannons whereas the original didn't seem to have any defenses. Most of the ships seem to get tinkered later to both better suit the universe, and more importantly to the tinkers, to fit gaps in the RPG stats tables. If you go by the NJO novels, the New Republic doesn't seem to have any of the "new" class vessels, and the only new ships they use are of that era - BACs, Mediators etc. On the fighter side, E- and B-Wings are rare and Y-Wings are still in service. X-Wings are everywhere while K-Wings and Defenders aren't even mentioned. In fact, in Destiny's Way, they're still using MC80b's. One problem with LucasBooks, is there doesn't seem to be enough information and guidelines given to writters in the regaurds of ships. The author of Destiny's Way commented on this too, saying if he'd known of later ships in the SW universe, he'd have added them in. But he only had the books form the NJO series as well as the first Essential Guide to Vehicles (or whatever it's called). It's become obvious in the later series that there's a lot for the reader to fill in, as in the case of the NJO it seemed to be better tailered to unfamilur readers of the EU. How this applies back to the CTD and its content, really is only how you view it. Like you point out, k-mac essentially created these vessels, so perhaps we should be following what he set out. On the other hand, it is Star Wars, and if they release "official" or even, newer and more offical information, should we go by that? I'm half a sleep here after finishing uni at 7:30 pm and getting home . . . dont recal when . . . so, I'm not entirely sure that my argument made sense let alone is an argument.

Well, a quick search revealed not much . . . this one caught my eye though http://blog.usticke.org/cimg1063.jpg More seriously though, here are a few you might want to tinker with and maybe try editing the image itself with photoshop? They look mostly to be figurines or sculptures however http://www.sithclan.net/SC4/write_access/depot_images/news/miniature/UHP_preview_darkTrooperPhase3.jpg http://www.rebelscum.com/potf2/sweudarktrooperdfcardfr.jpg http://www.rebelscum.com/potf2/POTF2EUdarktrooperfr.jpg http://www.planet-battlefront.de/custom/uploads/Artikel/Battlefront/Einheiten/Imprium/dark_trooper.gif <- This one is from Battlefront . . . and is white You could edit it to change colour, but I dont think it really looks like a Dark Trooper http://starwars.wikicities.com/images/4/49/Darktrooper.jpg Possibly the best one I've found

*sniff* Poor 5 series I remember seeing that a while ago . . . I call THIS a quad!

Troops is great, and so is IMPS. I really hope that the people who made IMPS are finishing up the other episodes (their news spoke of a lot of work done on several of the episodes). There's an area of the theforce.net dedicated just to fan films for Star Wars . . . I posted it a while ago in the outside interest area - though dont recal the url.

It's like saying it sucked, though a much higher degree of suckiness. Personally, I think they weren't that bad. Granted there were scenes that "sucked ass" - but this thread isn't about the prequels, rather the saber fights. Well, my vote ended up going to the final battle between Vader and Luke - not so much for the fight itself, but rather for the emotion backing it (and the Williams score helped as well ). Still, Luke vs. Vader in E5 comes in a very close second.

Welcome JR2001 Hope to see you around the forum more often

I'm yet to decide which is my favourtie. In Episode I, Obi Wan and Qui Gon vs. Maul was a great specticle. Awesome fight scene, with a lot of sword work and flare The later two of the prequels saber duels were equally as impressive, though I've leaned torwards the original trilogies fighting. Episode IVs lightsaber fight was lack luster, though had a lot more character - you can see neither are trying to make the first attack, rather just quick jabs trying to start the other off. And after watching Episode 3, it shows why both wouldn't be going all out against each other. But, it can't really be my favourite because so little happened in the actual duel, it was too much of a stand off. Like Sinister, I really liked the Episode 5 saber fight. Luke's off balance most of the time and really trying, Vader on the other hand is taking it casually, fighting one handed for most of it and then combines some dirty fighting with the force. Then there's Episode 6, the lightsaber fight there was good again. A more catious and calm Luke fights well, though again with little flare compared to the prequels. The best part is when he looses control and gives into the dark side for a little while and starts battering Vader - that has to be one of my favourite scenes in the series. So, I'm tied between Episode 5, and 6 at the moment Episode 6 is on tonight, so that'll probably be a pivital decision maker for me

Well, most of them didn't have any super special cars. But Billy seems to have an idea about cars - the 911 type 996 Carrera Cabriolet is nice, but odd for a billionare. I agree I find it odd that Bill hasn't upgraded to either a 997 Carrera 4S Cab, or is on the waiting list for a 997 Turbo, or go a step further and purchase a super car around - maybe a Porsche Carrera GT, or a Pagani Zonda etc. (not a Ferrari F60 Enzo, for two reasons - 1 Ferrari chooses who gets to drive own the car, and 2 . . . there aren't anymore ) The 959 on the other hand makes perfect sense, it's very rare car and would sell for around 1.5 Million

Actually, the term suppressor is the correct term (not just British and Australian), as suppressors are used to suppress the sound of the gun as well as the muzzle flash when fired Shame, though I doubted that if it was a working supressor there'd be much sound to deaden. I was mainly asking for a friend who wanted one, though I doubt you could get them legally in Australia anyway. And just so us metric boys get a better feel for it, 300 fps is 91.44 metres per second. Leathal rounds (and by leathal, I'm only referring to 9x19mm Parabellum round . . . the small ones for pistols and most sub machine guns ) have a muzzle velocity of around 270 mps for sub-sonic munitions, and 400 mps for super-sonic munitions - on average.

Awesome work J They both look amazing!

I got to agree with Crespin, PANICS is good - but no where nears as good as RvB (which goes for Strangerhood as well). Still, I'll be downloading the next season when it comes out
-
Nice BB gun Tofu. Looks like its based on either an MP5 A3 or an MP5 Navy (Can't see the trigger group, so I can't say for sure). Does the supressor actually work or have any effect on the gun?
-
Happy, late, birthday Tofu . . . better late than never, right?
-
Well, there all over now - and the results are in. Germany won, followed by America, Austria and in forth place Russia. Australia was in there somewhere, with 1 gold and 1 bronze . . . what can I say, we don't see snow that much Check out how your country (and others) did HERE
-
I think because it was meant to have really happened. Of course, I'm pretty sure that it turned out to be fake It's a shame the horror, or any movie genre, can get reduced to nothing more than gore Another thing I'm sick and tired of in movies - particularily when there's only the single hero character that survives even though everyone else gets killed (Aliens Vs. Predators comes to mind - but that's hardly a horror in my books)
-
Unfortunately yes. That was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, so long winded and boring. The ending was alright, though could have been better again - infact, shorten the movie to half an hour or even less and it would have been half deceant.
