While it is true that the release version (with its inevitable patches ) will be the most balanced, that is not to say that none of the mods will be balanced themselves. You are taking a chance on that part, but that is also a price to pay to play the mod as well. I look forward to modifying a mod (most likely Tides of War unless they do this themselves) to put all of the movie EpIV - VI units in the game and configuring them according to canon. This will probably not be the most balanced mod unless I can provide the balance for the rebellion in terms of their sabotage and general sneakiness. <--- This will probably be an important component to the sides balance in the retail game as well.

Speaking of which, I haven't seen him post lately, have I just been missing them?

are you forgetting the game lets you decide the fate and what happens? No, I am not, and that is exactly the point of my post. The empire could very well chose not to build the DS at all. But my issue with this is, that there does not seem to be any gameplay advantage to building the DS. It doesn't appear to have any function that blowing up a planet (an event whose faction implications we still do not have any information on, if any). I am saying that if the game is designed to allow the Empire enough resources to build the DS assuming that it will, then the Rebels will be severely underbalance if the Imperial player uses those resources instead to build up their conventional fleet. I mean the Death Star is cool and all, but unless it provides a benefit that warrants the expense and danger in its loss not counting blowing up planets, then there is no point in a player making it in the first place. In the game Rebellion, building the DS was expensive, but it could carry troops, fighters and it could fire on enemy capital ships. It would add tremendously to an orbiting fleets bombardment values and it would affect the popularity of every system in the sector in which it occupied. All we know about the DS in EAW is that it can blow up planets and that since the technology ends at the end of A New Hope (except for alot of the Rebel technology ) the DS is almost guaranteed to not be able to fire on capital ships. Not to mention that we still don't know for sure the popularity dynamic in the game in general, let alone the implications of different factors that might affect that.

It appears that the trench run is a scripted event.

It would be best to word this in a way to make it clear that you are expressing your opinion on this rather than stating it as a given fact. Regardless, I think that having the DS plans having to be stolen by the rebels before they can perform the trench run would be a very good balance to the extreme achilles heel of the DS. -
NEW EAW Information from trailer.
Teradyn_pff replied to plokoon9619's topic in EAW General Discussion
Agreed. The purpose of trailers is to hype a game in my opinion. If a trailer doesn't reveal new info then you shouldn't be disappointed because that is not their function. I don't have a misconception that the trailer should have given us new information. I am disappointed that the trailer is all that we got on Nov 1st. This is obviously something to go along with the launch of Battlefront II and not really any type of information release like I was hoping for. In other words, this is a LEC thing and not a Petroglyph thing. -
I think that the real power of this game is that they will set it up in a way to appeal to most regular players and potentially some Ep I-III fans who are not necessarily RTS players. At the same time, they are making it extremely moddable so us hardcore players can setup the sides to match the proper setup of ships, forces, etc. This, if done properly, will make EAW a smashing success in a sea of SW RTS failures.

Little B. I think your first question was already answered in the negative, but since I can't find that particular quote, I can't say for sure. Another quick question: 21. When a ship or group of fighters are told to target a particular hardpoint the gameplay videos seem to indicate that they will finish off all of that type of hardpoint without further direction. If this is true, what happens when all of the hardpoints of that type are destroyed? Do they default to attacking the hull? 22. Is there a way to prioritize a particular hardpoint attack order? For example: Enact an order for a group of bombers to take out weapons, then engines, then main shields, etc in that order at the beginning of the attack to be executed automatically like a disable priority, disarm, etc? ok, that was 2 but they are related.

That is a bomber strike, the bombardment that is being debated is an actual turbolaser barrage on the surface from space vessels directly.

Alien Factions That We May Expect to See Ingame
Teradyn_pff replied to Nevets's topic in EAW General Discussion
Just out of morbid curiosity, is it mentioned in any of the books about them that they did scout out the galaxy at any particular time? And if so, when? -

I sincerely hope not. That is among the EU topics I like to ignore as even occuring. Nonetheless, they are something that occur way after Ep VI let alone EP IV. -
Alien Factions That We May Expect to See Ingame
Teradyn_pff replied to Nevets's topic in EAW General Discussion
Raises a pretty good question on represented locals. I wonder if just the key planets will have them, because not all of the planets are thickly inhabited and honestly I don't think they are as up to speed on their EU (Broadside WTF?) to be able to pick a race for each of the now 80+ planets in the game. -
A couple of other questions that I have thought of since the new video came out: 16. Is the attack on the Death Star's trench and exhaust system a scripted even like it appears on the new trailer or was that something special for the video? 17. Will ships and especially fighters have any damage resulting from being near the planet when it is destroyed by the DS? 18. If you have heros stationed on a planet, will they have a chance of escaping when the Death Star blows up the planet, or are they dead? 19. Is there a way to try to get units off of a planet during a space battle, kind of like a planetary retreat? 20. How does the bombardment and bomber calling work during skirmish? Are they just not available or is there some kind of structure you build to give you some type of comparable power? Well, this is all for now. Please continue to add questions here because the more we have, the more the moderators have to work with in the chat.

Yes it has. I would appreciate some form of info from Delphi to say if that is the problem. I don't think our questions were too terribly long and involved. If you want to see long and involved, check out my questions in the interview questions thread: http://swempireatwar.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=992

NEW EAW Information from trailer.
Teradyn_pff replied to plokoon9619's topic in EAW General Discussion
I don't feel that this video gave us much of anything useful. And I am especially critical of the planet destruction and DS destruction parts. I think they are either partially made up of movie clips or are cutscenes. We have seen the planet destruction in game and I dont think the one in the video is the same. Sucks IMO to use video footage instead of in game. -
I wonder if they are running into issues with LEC letting them answer our questions? Like maybe they have had to do them a couple of times because too much info was given out or something?
-
Anyone know what happened with this? Delphi said they should have gotten them to us last week but I don't see anything. Did I miss it?

Teradyn_pff replied to Teradyn_pff's topic in EAW General Discussion
Unfortunately, this will be most likely the case. I wish Delphi would come back and give us some info on that part of the film. -
This is a good point about the skirmish battles, but how will they do tie or y-wing bombardments in skirmish? There may be a different dynamic completely for the campaign portion which still leaves the issue of the transports. They have mentioned before that the ships you drop troops off with are the ships that are in the fleet above. And we have seen the models for the transports that are dropping troops and equipment off in the ground battle represented in the space arena.

Here's my little theory. In singleplayer it will already be in build as its for storyline purposes. But in multiplayer you don't begin with it. Nah I don't think so.. As you first need to research Death Star components, I'm absolutely sure that has been stated somewhere (sorry can't give ye a link.., maybe you remember it yourself now?). I'm taking a guess that it will take you much time and research (and resources probably) before ye even get the DS. Yes, I remember what you are talking about. The Death Star is pretty much at the end of the Empire's technology tree. Several things are required to be able to build it and they provide upgrades for your other ships as well along the way.

Teradyn_pff replied to Teradyn_pff's topic in EAW General Discussion
I am sure that if that was in-game, that the battle camera would naturally focus on the final shot and the death. It just seemed like the detonation was a bit too like the redone movie shot, and not an ingame cinematic or footage. Who knows, was pretty nonetheless. -
I don't know if anyone has noticed or maybe it is just not that important, but that planet in the background sure looks busy don't it.
-
I would like to see a recreation of the battle of Yavin with a more realistic fighter representation. But since we dont know about the full dynamics between the DS and the rest of the environment, don't know if you could film that. It would be nice if the death star trench shot in the new video was completely in game, but the death star explosion in particular looked scripted.

That is a wierd thing to see with a winged mon cal in the background. I wish they would play fair with the post IV tech...
