  1. The star wars technical commentaries are an excellent source for data on this stuff but I can't remember the link. It is somewhere in this forum for sure. Anyway, the whole idea of a single starfighter affecting an ISD is from the flight sim games, to give you a chance of doing something against the big ships. A bit skewed in my opinion, but this game has capital ships, so they shouldn't have to use that incorrect formula.
  2. I haven't seen a definate volunteer for recording the chat. I will be at work during the chat I think (may be able to sneak a couple of minutes in during lunch I hope), so I want to be able to read it. I am sure someone will be recording it, but I would feel better if it was decided who, and possibly a backup just to be sure.
  3. The general concensus is that an expansion would be for a clone wars timeline, not an original trilogy timeline. Besides, an original trilogy timeline will be a subset of the work that the Legacy of War mod is doing so it is not like it will be a whole new project.
  4. Jan you are correct. The Neb-Bs were new when a whole fleet of them defected to the Alliance. After that the Empire created the Modified Nebulon Frigates. More powerfull, better weapons, shields and Armor . It is little things like this that would make for great storyline tags for each ship in the game and make it more realistic that will probably not be in. The Nebulon frigates will probably be the same on each side.
  5. I never played this mod before. How does it compare to the star wars mod for armada II? ( My complaint on the Armada II one is the size of ships and their getting stuck flipping out when coming out of hyperspace and some other pathing issues)
  6. My point is though, that that scene was in the "remastered" version. Not the "Original". Lucas is just changing things to try to make the prequel seem to fit.
  7. I wish they would stop saying this if it isn't true. And if it is true, how? The sequence of battle is one thing that still confuses me. If it is linear, how do reinforcements show up? If it is real time, could you drop troops on the ground before the enemy is taken out in space? And if that is possible, could you have orbital bombardments happening from both fleets on the ground? Too many issues with this part of the game.
  8. I bet that avatar was thought up by someone who was thinking of forums at the time .
  9. We need a definate on this. I don't think that with such massive projects as the Death Star and multiple SSDs that the Empire would need or desire to put together different configurations for an ISD for example. If you needed more fast turbolasers to deal with rebel fighters, you design a lancer frigate, not replace ion cannons on your ISD. It doesn't make too much sense.
  10. Also, do we have any word on the list of questions we sent in? It would be helpful if we had those answers first so we could narrow them down if they weren't answered clearly or the like.
  11. Right, it was able to conserve its energy on the shots to only use what was needed for destroying a ship. Plus more effective cooling techniques made fireing quicker possible. As for EAW, the tech for the DS2 will not be in for sure because the tech ends at ANH. Targetting installations is another matter since they should be large and stable enough to target, even if it takes longer than a planetary shot. You would still not be able to fire more than once in a fight I think. Still, this type of question is one we should be asking in the chat.
  12. Right, we need to make it a point to find out in the chat at least what effect the Death Star's presence or actions have on popular support in and around the system it is in.
  13. There may not be a way technically for the drop ships to be combat enabled. I don't know whether they would be put in as the ships in space completely modelled. At any rate, this and the bombardment issue are ones that will be extremely interesting to test and pull apart once we get the demo. I really want a bombardment option to be tied to the power of the fleet in orbit. If it has to be a countdown timer like in Generals, maybe a sufficiently large fleet would have several countdown timers allowing for a good barrage.
  14. Like Teradyn said we aren't sure anymore. Delphi came on about 4 days ago and was answering some questions and said that it ends at the Battle of Yavin. Whether he meant the game stops there or just the technology you had access to stops there, we are unsure of. That is very wierd Garbageben, I didn't write that, Makwu did! These forums have some wierd issues methinks.
  15. Fosh, that is not even remotely funny. No SSD, they have already said that it is not there at all. Anyway, if destroying the Death Star is a winning condition, it is probably referring to the campaign. That I can see, possibly, but for multiplayer, not so much. The Empire would simply not build it, and from what we can tell so far, it would be better for them in all aspects to not build it.
  16. This is true. There are a huge bunch of people eyeing this game. If you look at all the great mods for so many games out there to Star Wars, you can imagine the talent being brought to bear on this game if only 1/4th of those people know about it. Heck, there was even a Star Wars mod someone almost finished for Starcraft!
  17. I don't think what Eduardo is asking for is an "Official Trailer", but rather more videos of gameplay. I think we would all agree, but I think from the developers' perspective, they have to be even more careful with this rabid bunch (myself included). We set off a firebomb that is still smoking when we learned of the SSD being off the list and getting the facts on the intended timeline. They have to know that we will analyze, pick apart, etc anything we possibly get our hands on. Just look through some of the post in this forum and you can find discussion about minute details of almost every piece of media that has been released about this game. They know that they are under the microscope on this one and we have already shown that we are an extremely knowledgable bunch (not necessarily well spelled though ). I am thinking that the chat will give us the next batch of topics that we are craving right now.
  18. Fear and paranoia in a player is good, but a half-way competent Rebel player will make the Death Star a liability for the Empire. Either the Empire has to mass defenses around the Death Star where they would be better spent elsewhere, or the Death Star will be too poorly defended offering a chance for the rebels to destroy a massive amount of spent resources in one shot. And remember, that the Empire would have had to make a huge investment to build it in the first place, resources that could have been spent on a larger force of ISDs, for example. The Death Star will be a slower unit we know already for sure, it will also need alot of resources to build and even more to properly stock if it is a carrier of troops, ships, fighters and bases (as it should be). And it will even take more resources to properly defend. I can't remember if the Interdictor is going to be ingame or not, I think maybe it is, but at any rate, if it is going to be ingame then the massive fleet defending the Death Star has a real purpose, if not, then absolutely no go. Also, the Death Star absolutely has to have an effect on the planets' populations in terms of loyalty if you think about it. I don't think that Petroglyph will let you blow up planets with no backfire in those terms. Which means that there may be a bigger reason not to use the Death Star for its main purpose than just the resources. Rebellion went overkill on the negative reaction to the Death Star blowing up a planet. You lost support by about 1/10th on every inhabited planet in the galaxy instantly. I think that a more realistic approach is one that would increase rebel loyalty on planets that are rebel and imperial loyalty by a much smaller degree on imperial planets (the fear factor). We can only hope they get it right, but with all the modifications that we will be needing to make because of missing units, hopefully we will be able to fix this issue as well. The reaction of planets is something that I am sure would be in the XML files.
  19. Well, my point is that the Empire built the Death Star for the purpose of quelling any uprising before it began rather than dealing with it. It is easier to keep people in line than to gather them up and deal with them when they get out of it, basically. Blowing up an entire planet is a huge waste of resources of one kind or another. I am sure players would build it just because they could, but at that point they could have already won the game. How best could we ask questions about the Death Star in the chat to narrow down some of these ambiguities? Like how does the Death Star's presence in a system affect its and its neighbor's faction standing? Or what range will the Ion Cannons and Turbolasers that are mounted on the Death Star be able to engage capital ships? And does the gravitational pull of the planet make the orbit of the Death Star have a minimum distance required? Things like that that have to be answered in a bit more detail than a question like: Can the Death Star attack capital ships? See what I mean?
  20. Then tell me, why can the ones in Ep 2 land? I'm thinking as a modder. If it isn't ingame(the Acclamator landing) I'm going to put it in there for sake of it being shown in the movie. How will you do that if a combat ship landing is not possible in the retail? You thinking about just replacing the standard troop carrier model with it?
  21. It just grates me that if/when I buy EAW that I will be contributing further to this madness. There is no good answer.
  22. But if that is true, doesn't it kind of take a big chunk out of the game for the Empire? The tech to build the Death Star is not given to start out, you have to build different upgrades leading up to it. I know these upgrades are tied to other enhancements but doesn't it make a regular galaxy game kind of lacking when the Death Star isn't useful for anything pracitally? And I know that when I played against the computer in Rebellion, it would dissapoint me that it wouldn't build a Death Star, because it was cool to be able to wipe out so many resources with one lucky fighter attack. Someone even made a mod so that the computer would build one. How would a normal game of EAW progress if the Empire never builds a Death Star? And why would they want to build it in the first place? Not counting the time where they can because they have basically won anyway.
  23. I don't like it because it was like alot of other prequel things, too advanced to be predecessors to the original trilogy.
  24. Right, but we don't even know if it has any capacity like that. I don't remember seeing anything on the video of them clicking on it and firing to indicate that there was a hangar icon, troop capacity, etc. That is what I am asking about, what does it provide other than the planet killing superweapon? I am speaking of the game, not canon. I know it had alot more capabilities than that in the story but I am asking about how it will be implemented in the game. Maybe there hasn't been a decision yet on what exactly they would implement but check this out: http://www.theforce.net/swtc/ds/rpg.html#rpgds1 The size of the station and it's capacity would make it completely overwhelming in game. I think that the troops it could field should be scaled down the same way that the capacity of an ISD would. But that is just me.
  25. Hmmm, lots of room there to mess with continuity. Anyone feel cheated out of seeing the Clone Wars? I know I didn't envision the money-grubbing, hollywood mold crap that we got shovelled when Obiwan was telling luke about his father being a jedi knight fighting in the clone wars in ANH. Arg..... /rant protection engaged shutting response dowwwwwwwnnnnn...
