I don't think that, from what we have seen so far, an expansion that will be released will be done as soon or as accurately as the mods that will follow release. There are alot of things that need to be fixed in this game on release that will be done by mods first. Any expansion will probably have the same problems.

Source code to what? The exe? I am pretty sure that that would be the illegal part. Other than that, who knows?
-
Meh, need reading glasses or something. Will the troops be dropped off by the Correlian Corvette is something that I am still wondering though.
-
At what point would digging into the game to mod it be a breach of EULA? A few mods being kicked around talk about having more than 2 sides, but they are either talking about skirmish mode only, or I haven't seen where they discuss campaign mode. This is my question though, are we going to be able to have more than 2 sides to a multiplayer galactic mode game using only legal modding techniques?
-
Are you talking about in game? If so, where has it been stated or shown that a Corellian Corvette is going to be able to land troops in the ground map?

I am confused. Has the design been changed from an energy shield and a particle shield to a tier 1 (energy) and a tier 2 (both) shield? Wasn't a particle shield one that could block ships and units? Why did the fleet have to pull away from their attack on the Death Star II when they notice the shield wasn't down? The fighters at least could have passed through if it was the same type of shield that the Death Star I had. Remember also, that even if a shield can block everything you throw at it, it is still using power and you will eventually overload it. This sounds like the only option with the new shield types in EAW now. Unless they are going to have units passing through the particle shield too, which is silly IMO.

I think the confusion centers around the fact that in the list, there is: Hypervelocity Gun - which has a movie showing a space map where it is used to destroy a space station. and Hypervelocity Gun [space] - which is in the coming soon part of the list which would be extremely redundant seeing as this has been already shown used in space. My guess is that maybe the [space] version is the one that should have been in the top section with the video and the other one should say [Ground] and be a video that includes the actual ground model during a ground map. (not sure how it would fire while the ground map is going on, but no reason it shouldn't since the ships that are orbiting the planet and dropping troops are still targets)
-
How did you get that out of that? Not saying it is impossible, but there has not been any video shots of one landing anything in the ground maps.

If we are going to be able to successfully incorporate a third faction into EAW then a three race matchup is begging to be done for Starcraft. Earth 2160 is a nice modern RTS with enough similarities to the way Starcraft was designed to suffice somewhat, but it isn't Starcraft2. I think to be successful, the different features need to be modded in to use the technology of EAW. I see it like this: Protoss Space vehicles: Scout - Think Tie Advanced Corsair - Think X-Wing. Interceptors - Think A-Wing. Carrier - In the mod, it would need some defensive lasers, but the primary feature will be massive hanger bays for the Interceptors. Arbiter - Dependant on how possible it is, cloaking using the built in code for nebula. Basically make the Arbiter a movable nebula with an invisible effect. Shuttle - Protoss troop transport. Can carry all ground assault capable forces. Protoss Ground Vehicles Observer - Basic scouting unit. May have extremely large observing area if a way is not possible to allow cloaking. Reaver - Scarab may have to be implemented as slow arching projectile but fire rate should be about 1/4 to 1/2 the time it takes for the scarab to be built in the original StarCraft. Probe - (questionable) May be used as a moble repair/medic unit. Use needs to fill any gaps for balance as this unit is not a builder/gatherer unit in the mod as no such unit exists or is needed. Zealot - Primary ground attacker. Massive health and shielding make up for no ranged attack. ... the list is quite extensive as you probably know. Given the many types of units available to the StarCraft universe, I think that three sides would work very well for skirmish maps at least. Some of the major problems with doing this or any other mod with more than 2 sides is the galactic mode. Don't know if it will be possible to have more than 2 sides to that because that would be something the multiplayer connection menus and code would have to support. Sounds like something that would need to have hard coded support and I don't see that happening. The only remote possibility is to use the skirmish interface for multiplayer to allow more than 2 people connect for a campaign map. Still doubtful, but hopefully this is something that Petroglyph will come through for us on at least after release. Irregardless of this, you could still do 1v1 galactic with Protoss vs Human or Protoss vs Zerg or Zerg vs Human, etc. Some of the effects, abilities that are "magic-like" could be problematic, but since there are Jedi abilities in the game, this should be easy. The main issue will probably be burrowing for the zerg, Nadulus Canals, Creep, cloaking for any sides (especially the ground), and persistent air units (this may be ok since there are speeders on the Rebel side and should be moddable into any other atmospheric craft). Comments and suggestions are welcome and encouraged. I am not a moddeler, graphics, animation or sound guy, so this mod would need all that. I can handle a fair share of coding so that is what I would be contributing to this mod if it was able to get off of the ground. By the way, if this post doesn't belong here, please let me know where it does belong before you move/delete it. Thank you.

Been watching the post quality drop dramatically since the first developer chat announcement brought in new people. I have to say, I am quite dissapointed. I enjoyed what felt like a bit more mature forum atmosphere than what is available on the LEC forum circus, but that seems to be going down the drain as of late. It has alot to do with the people coming over from those forums, but it also has to do with the lack of useful information about EAW. I had my hopes up quite a bit for the developer chat, but they were quickly dashed. Not much solid info came out of that chat, and some of the questions that were allowed through were simply unforgivable given the limited time available for the chat. Another issue is the list of questions that we had sent in. They have been out for more than a month now, and no telling if they will even be answered in a useful manner or even returned at this point. Too much about the game is hush hush this close to the release too. I can recall many different games that had full tech trees and/or unit lists available on their websites before the game was out. And it is very dodgy that we had to find out on the forums the correct information about the true timeline of this game at a time after the original launch date! Anyway, I am taking my leave of these forums for a while. I haven't had much desire to post on most of the current topics anyway, so have been lurking for the past week or so. I am sure a few of the older members know what I am talking about in the section above. Hopefully something will show up on the Petroglyph web site or the one at LEC. Given the lack of info at these places, I probably won't be doing anything but checking every once in a while to see if the demo has been released. Anyway, I am curious if anyone else feels the same way about the info being release (or not being released by Petroglyph/Lucas Arts). Be sure to post why you voted the way you did.

A thesaurus is a great place to look for names for ships.

I hope you get to feeling better, I am on the last day of my antibiotics for my own bronchitis myself. Was wondering, however, when you would get those questions posted? The chat is only a few hours from now. Also, it looks like we will still not get our interview questions answered in time again.

DarthMaulUK, got your list yet?

I would imagine at that point LEC would have to ok certain points and what Petro used in the game would be the "official" canon. -

We do know the timeline and it only goes through the end of A New Hope (Episode IV). This question is about whether or not you would be willing to wait for EAW's release to have them extend the timeline to the end of Return of the Jedi. -
I for one think that they should release what they have on schedule. A delay to add more content doesn't guarantee that they will get it right, but it would make it easier for us to mod the values to make it closer to canon. We have talented modellers out here gearing up for the release already so we should have the game we want probably faster than if it was official.

I like classical, rock and I like the music from trance and techno, I don't particularly care for words. I don't listen to music all that much though compaired to anyone else I know.

I feel that we have reached a point at which we need some genuine, full blown, real hard data on EAW to continue. I think that alot of people were expecting more than a new trailer (with some old scenes by the way) on November 1st. We haven't received the answers to the questions we sent in. The chat didn't happen at all and got moved back. Delphi has been answering some questions, but those answeres usually just bring up more questions. Anyone else feeling all this? Alot of games would be showing off their upcoming units by now, but we had to find out from a dev on a message board about the timeline of the game!

I think it was his flagship until the Executor was completed.

By the look of the screens...(for imperial ships)
Teradyn_pff replied to DarkTrooper14's topic in EAW General Discussion
Well, I don't think that the Home One will be like the regular types. It will probably be able to take on a ISD and win easily in the game. That is why it would have to be modded to be corrected. Besides, was Home One's retrofit finished before the Battle of Yavin? -
In space skirmishes I'm guesses you start out with a space station and the station generates credits or something? Right. This sounds kind of like what they have hinted at. There hasn't been too much solid detail offered on the skirmish part of the game. IMO, the skirmish part of the game will be kind of like what you get out of a separate RTS game altogether. This is kind of like getting two games at once if you think about it. If you have played Rise of Nations, you remember the "Risk-like" world conquest map. You probably have wished you could play that part with a human opponent. Well, with EAW, you get to play the individual maps online like Rise of Nations, but you also get to play the Galactic (Risk like) part of the game multiplayer too! This is one of the things I am most excited about, because they could have done like Battlefront I (dont know about II) and had a small conquest part you played in single player but have multiplayer only one map at a time.

Yeah, something like that. I think that Luke did take unofficial command of Red Group (squadron) after Red Leader died, but this was basically a temporary leadership position on the battlefield. They would have had to make it official after the battle was over. And by destroying the Death Star and saving the entire rebel command staff, I think they wouldn't be too hesitant to promote him, don't you?

Take the comparison between a battleship and an aircraft carrier from the world war I and II eras. In a straight confrontation between the two, the carrier would be totally screwed. Now Home One had more fighter capacity to make up for the relatively smaller weaponry, but if the empire had enough fighters to counter this, then you are left with the Home One and an ISD duking it out ship-to-ship and the Home One would be hosed. -
Um, Luke wasn't the leader of Red Squadron. He was Red 5.
