These have all been discussed at length before. There is a search feature on this board that you should use. It is up at the top right. By the way, none of these work according to our current information.

If such an artificial sun replacement were possible to be ignited, I doubt life on Earth would survive the transition.
-
I thought that was just the beginning of a skirmish battle in that video. I hope that is not how it happens.
-
The question here, however, is if what you see when you are recording is what you see when you rewatch it. We all agree I think that we would like to see the battle from any angle on the replay.

Your last paragraph describes what is missing in the movement in the game.
-
Infantry in real life do not stand in 4x4 groups while fighting either. And it seemed like the infantry started firing way too close to each other as well.
-
It is vulnerable to a small fighter, but we still don't know if a capital ship gets close whether or not the Death Star can attack and be attacked with Turbolasers conventionally.

I noticed that as well, that even the laser shots miss. I espicially noticed in the Corellian Corvette movie. As far as land battles go, it looks like the troops are acurate when both the attacker and the attacked are standing still. I havnt seen an instance of moving attacking, or I just cant remember. That is something I am worried about. The ground troops seem to have to stop to fire. It makes their movement very clunky and unrealistic. They seem to be very stiff and look like sprites almost in battles. Anyone else notice this? It doesn't seem to be changing with the successive videos either. I feel that this is a problem.

No, actually those Ion blasts came from Y-Wings. Look at 40:18-40:22 in the video. I pause-played through it and one shot pair comes from offscreen in the direction of an incoming group of Y-Wings and then you see another Ion shot pair coming directly from a Y-Wing. The SD looked like it was totally affected but it didn't seem to last more than 5 seconds. I am not sure if any lasting shield damage was done or not because the view went away and the cursor wasn't over that ship anyway. I am thinking such a shot will be the Y-Wing's special ability. It makes sense too. I think that the B-Wing and the Tie-Defender will have longer duration and mor.... bah, what am I saying... they aren't in the game! Grrrrr.

Planetary Shield Generators?
Teradyn_pff replied to MasterTactician's topic in EAW General Discussion
I don't believe you can bombard a planet before you get into the ground battle mode (if you can bombard at all). Thus, having a shield that protects the whole planet would be impossible to deal with and they wouldn't put something like that in a game. As for the current shield generators, I would imagine that you could make their area of influence larger than the map once the map starts, but then what? With the invader having no way to land troops, there would be no ground battle. Not very feasible in my opinion. Even Hoth was not completely covered. Is there an example of a planet in the SW universe that is completely surrounded by a shield? And if so, is it only a special case? -
What this game really needs.

Huh? What did you mean by that post? -
NMA Project - Starcraft: Invasion of Char
Teradyn_pff replied to Teradyn_pff's topic in The Maw Installation
Hoooo Kay. Maybe that is why I haven't seen a good StarCraft mod for any games. I would hate to see something get 50% or more done and have it shut down because of Blizzard. I never thought they would pull Microsoft on us, but I guess when you get so big, you become above the consumer. I figured it would be a kick-a$* mod and it will probably if it were to be able to survive to completion. I wish I had artistic talent, but I will have to relegate myself to waiting on the demo of EAW or EAW itself (depending on which comes out first ) so that I can find out what the engine will allow us to do in terms of coding and the like. I am not looking to lead the mod, mind you as I don't believe I could contribute that much initially. Mods are more for graphics and sound folks as that is what is usually changed to fit the engine that already exists. At any rate, all the discussion has been about how fast Blizzard would strike this down and sue all involved. At what point in the modelling and skinning process do the Starcraft units have to be associated with EAW? Models and skins do not have to be openly displayed. There would be no point to advertising a web site and showing the models as they progress like LoW does if there is any danger in Blizzard getting their panties in a wad. The policy as listed on their web site doesn't specifically prohibit doing a Starcraft mod for a different game, so that would be at their discression, which they have already exercised from what some of you are saying. I don't know if there was something specifically objectionable to them with that particular mod, but if so, it would be wise to find out and make sure that it isn't repeated. Anyway, I nominate MyZrael to lead this mod. For a storyline, something following broodwar would probably tick off Blizzard, because if they are planning on making a sequel to Starcraft then they would probably want to make the story themselves. At any rate, who says there has to be a storyline anyway ? Just some simple models and appropriate skins, sounds dont even have to be incorporated at this point... etc etc. The trick to something like this is to get the most time consuming parts out of the way first, such as the modelling and skinning (especially since we dont have an engine to play with yet). Those models don't have to be associated with EAW or any game at their creation point you know. The only point at which it gets specific is when you try to import them into EAW and we can't even do that yet. Any thoughts? -
Um, remember this? Cookie who can guess who said that and what movie it was in.
-
Speculation on something like this is pointless in regard to the release of EAW. The release date is far to close for damage and physics calculations to be completely reworked at this time. However the current model is implemented is what we will be getting. I am thinking a more simplistic model will be applied given the concurent battling units that Petro is attempting to support.

How much could you save though. Are any of you thinking about the galactic mode? Now that would be a recording that would be worth watching... with time scaling of course. As for the skirmishes, that shouldn't be too difficult to pull off as it has been done in many games before.

We don't know that. We know that planets are capable of rebelling, and that popular support will play some sort of role. Didn't Delphi somewhat hint towards diplomacy being an option in the game? In any case, I'm sure that there will be a political benefit to the Death Star being constructed. Maybe several neutral planets will join the Empire simply out of fear. The question that I got submitted about diplomacy in the chat was as follows (with the answer): My impression of this answer is that diplomacy for one, is not in the game, and as a result having the DS presence affect the popular opinion on a planet would not make sense. I also got the impression that the planet joining a side is a feature of the campaign only and is not something that you will see in skirmish or multiplayer at all. Given this information, I reiterate my previous statement about the usefulness of the Death Star.

I don't think we have seen confirmation of Orbital Bombardment of any type. The attacks on the surface will primarily be conducted by Y-Wings and Tie Bombers from what we have seen. There have been screenshots of X-Wings engaged on the surface, but how or to what extent, we don't know yet.

Well, we don't know what the cost will be for the units it would take to capture a planet. It may be more costly to destroy the planet than it would be to lose the units in the process of taking it. It will probably depend on the planet resource production as well, but if it is a high producer, you will most likely have a hard fight to take it over anyway. I still do not see the Death Star as a viable resource expenditure when the general populace is not swayed by its existence/proximity. It was primarily designed as a fear weapon. Even the Empire knew that it could not destroy planets willy-nilly. The destruction of Alderaan was a very political message about the resolve to use the Death Star. The only other purposeful use to destroy a planet/moon was the swift annihilation of the Rebels, a cost well worth it to the Empire. The Death Star in this game is a gimick, pure and simple.
-
That is my understanding too. But I thought that the skirmish maps would be more like traditional RTS where you can build your base and such, but we haven't got to see any of that in any video that I know of. Why would they not show building production?

Anyone notice that the guy from LEC said you could play all of the worlds from Star Wars in the Gamespot interview? At what point does something become false advertising?

Can the AI attack you on the galactic map?
Teradyn_pff replied to Sabu113's topic in EAW General Discussion
I think the fear is that the AI required to properly execute a galactic level strategy will be well beyond what we normally see in RTSs. This fear is well grounded because even if the AI is super hard on hardest level, does it mean it is smart or is it just taking advantage of your 1 at a time limits as a human vs the all at once of the computer? But even this can be surmounted by learning its patterns. Learning AI is something needed in this game. I am quite curious as to how they will build this portion of the game, seeing that they have all the extra time what with the not needing to put in the SSD, B-Wing, Tie-Interceptor, etc. Sorry, couldn't help it. -
Unless you are using the DS as a very expensive and likely to be lost trap, you probably aught to keep it on the move. In Coruscant you can't do anything with it, since it is the DS I. As for myself, I probably wont build the DS unless I get alot of extra credits built up that I just want to blow for the heck of it. If I do end up building one, I will probably use it on the Rebels' last planet left ftw.

Delphi-PG said that there would be no yoda hero (didn't say not in period as cameo perhaps, but anyway). Also, in your sig, you know that last quote was from Tarkin and not Vader, right?

What video? Is it the streaming one that Little B hosted? I haven't been able to see that yet. The streaming is all washed out or something. Is this a video that is new? Or is it the E3 one?
-
Is this video new? I couldn't find it on gamespot and the stream you just linked has some wierd color problems. Is there anywhere to download this direct instead of streaming?
