  1. How could it fail? Certainly through no fault of Petroglyph, but you have to remember that LA is not just the publisher, they are the license holders so they can screw with, inhibit, restrict, etc Petroglyph's genius to ruin.
  2. I didn't get past the arena battles in the beginning of KOTOR 1. I guess I am more a strategy player at heart. But it may have to do with the fact that I work full time and was going to school when that came out. I should finish it because it is a waste of money if I don't.
  3. War is diplomacy by other means. I think that in this game, sending a unit to raise a planet's loyalty to you will not be a mechanic that even exists. There are no loyalty values for the planets. The bars we thought were popularity are actually build slots.
  4. I am disappointed in the response to modding. It looks like Petroglyph may have spent alot of time on tools for moddability (that they used to make the game of course) that we may never see. I don't trust Lucas Arts in supporting full moddability. It is sad that it is in their court to allow this rather than Petroglyph's.
  5. I was just looking at your clip and pictures, very nice. Just got a chance to look at them. I think with what you did with that molecule, you should be very adept at creating the zerg here. It was very very organic (as molecules tend to be ).
  6. Meh, the S stands for sh** yep, it sure does.
  7. Duh, how could I forget the butter, or better yet, lemon butter! mmmmm tasty.
  8. Well, it is about time! All the videos keep showing the Empire getting pwned in battles they should be pwning in. Anyway, I like Mon Calamari just fine with a little cocktail sauce or lemon. What I was saying was that the game will not allow the Empire to build Mon Cal cruisers if you capture their planet. The best you can hope for is to prevent the rebels from being able to build them. As the Empire why would I want to build a Mon Cal anyway if I can build an Imperial Star Destroyer?
  9. ewwwww, the catch all : "S-level" anyone guess what S means?
  10. My guess is that the Star Destroyer can't produce unlimited tie fighters and take them with it. A personal Star Destroyer unit limit if you will. A couple of possibilities exist. A SD can produce Tie Fighters during a space battle indefinately and either hit a limit for the map, or a limit for that SD. Or, there may be a set amout that a SD can hold (6 squadrons I think) and once that is full, you can't make more until the ones attached to you are destroyed. May make a tactical decision necessary, do I waste my timer on the ability and refil my squadrons at half health or do I let them all be destroyed to get the most bang for my special ability buck? Then again, if there is not a limit like that, you could have a single SD produce 100s of Tie Fighters (which would be undesireable on all sides I think). The only restriction would then have to be that the only ones that last after the battle are the 6 squadrons that the SD can hold... or none survive at all. This last option doesn't hold with the unit persistency thing IMO though. Is an interesting question though.
  11. Heh, this discussion did get a bit silly didn't it? I think that we just need to wait and see what effect destroying a planet will have on the galaxy.
  12. That all goes back to the mother's voice in the womb thing and such. Anyway, you might want to make sure you weren't playing a modified version, GS. For my experience, using the Death Star in any system at all, you got major hits on every planet in the game in terms of popularity.
  13. What about Jar-Jar?
  14. You mean the OT books or the movies? And I kinda think this discussion is paralleling a conversation elsewhere. My post in there is this:
  15. Well, the problem is that Lucas doesn't even hold true to his first works. It is kind of like rounding something off way too early in a mathematical work. The error that exists is amplified exponentially by the time you get to the "solution". This is my view on the EU. It is of course ok for entertainment as all fan fiction should be, but I disagree with any of it being considered canon. Know what I mean? Even Lucas violates his own canon. Just because he wrote it in the first place doesn't mean that contradicting himself is anything but that. Anyhoo. I think that we all have our opinion of EU and I think that any debate about how valid or invalid it is is moot. I don't consider EU canon, but I do think that EU should be used (where it fills in gaps in the previous stories, nothing more) instead of brand new made up stuff, like the Broadside... etc.
  16. Um, correction. I don't have any artistic skills when it comes to moddeling and skinning. I do, on the other hand, have a little experience in the data manipulation/coding field. As a matter of fact, I work as a data analyst for a nation-wide communications company. I have done my share of coding in C, C++, Visual C.NET, VBA, Visual Basic 6 and .NET, messed around with HTML, XML, some Java (shudder) and a little thing called Perl. So I would not write me off for something like this just yet . I just am unable to help with the moddeling and skinning which are the only things that can really be worked on until we get our hands on the demo or the game, whichever comes first. As for the naming thing, I think that changing the names of the units, and mod itself is not a worthless precaution. It never hurts to be careful when there may be a danger. I like the invite only idea as well. Care needs to be taken to prevent publicity before it is wanted. I think that moving this thread into secure portions of these forums was a good move (although it rendered me unable to see it for a bit), but it does need to be taken a step furthur. This mod should have its own forum and location that is not connected in any way with PFF. I would hate to have any bad publicity generated that would include PFF. Also, referrences to this mod idea (namely this thread) should be completely purged from the PFF. The forum that the mod is moved to, should be stand-alone and not have a domain name either. Having to have an IP address to locate will bump up the security and support the invite only idea. The moderators of that forum will need to be vigilant to prevent any text that would identify the mod with StarCraft. The name of the mod, the units, the weapons, etc should have alternate names. They need to be different to a degree that there correlation to StarCraft wouldn't make any sense unless you saw the models. StarCraft = SolarBattles Humans = Federal Militia Protoss = Mutadons Zerg = Fuzzies These aren't the best names, but you should get the idea. They shouldn't be something like: StarCraft = SolarProduct (although a good idea, too direct a parallel) Humans = Terrans, Dominion etc. Protoss = Telepaths, MindWarriors, etc Zerg = Mutants, BioWarriors, etc. Another thing I thought of is anonymity with regards to the members of that forum. Something like making gmail accounts for all registration and contact uses since you can make those pretty anonymously. gmail would be good because of the mail box size as well to allow sending of models, textures, builds, etc. Anyway, what you guys think?
  17. Well, the penalty in Rebellion was rediculous. The popularity/loyalty should have gone up on alot of worlds instead of all down. The fear should have kept alot of planets in line, that was the whole point. But for the seat of the Empire to take a huge hit when it is completely loyal to the Empire is rediculous. And if you blow something up in the Outer Rim, doesn't matter, every single inhabited planet would go more toward the Rebellion. I think that the Death Star was rendered useless in that game and I hope they don't do that again in this one. The rebels should have a genuine fear when the Death Star is in production and completed. They should have to take it out as soon as possible to preserve their planets. The strategic value to both sides would be higher. For the Empire a way to cripple the Rebel's resource production swiftly and for the Rebels an oportunity to wipe out a monumental capital investment by the Empire in one shot.
  18. Actually, I have read the Thrawn series. But the issue is that Lucas holds the rights to Star Wars so if the book sucks, they shouldn't have let it go to print. Actually, they shouldn't have let the books get written in the first place. The reason Star Wars is so powerful is the fact that they didn't destroy it with a tv series that would drive it into the dirt. And the Episode I-III attrocities happened so far away from the original series, people were hooked. Anyhow, I hope that they do not show up in the game. Lets get a good Star Wars RTS first and let someone mod that cr@p in if they want.
  19. Um, which books? Star Wars I, II, III, IV, V or VI? Anything else is pretty much garbage.
  20. The significant thing about there being no diplomacy in the multiplayer game is that you can actually use the Death Star to blow up planets I hope.
  21. Um, I just thought of something... if there is no diplomacy, is there no penalty for using the death star?
  22. Um, how is Beowulf not entitled to an opinion about the EU? Many people agree with him. I don't like the hapans regardless of their EU or not. But I don't like most of the EU anyway. Lucas can't even do his own story justice, let alone some hack author wanabe jacking with it to sell books.
  23. The problem is that this type of diplomacy is in the campaign single player, not in the multiplayer.
  24. No, you wont be able to build Calimari cruisers if you take over Mon Calamari as the Empire.
  25. He is right about #4. Both the AT-AT and SD produce their units on a timer like other units' special abilities.
