Yeah, it is, but I think we all need a little humor. There have been some big negatives thrown at us lately. And still no demo. On topic, though, I think that the balance in the game should be pretty good given what Ishmael said. We can only hope, but at least he didn't say something like the Mon Cal = ISD cause that is balanced.

Planet is yours after you win the ground battle, which I think, is by destroying all enemy units. Ground bases are in predetermined area I think. We don't have specifics, but it is very unlikely that a Star Destroyer is less than 1 pop unit. Given that, alot of people (me included) think that 20 Star Destroyers/Mon Cal with full complements of fighters/bombers is too small a limit. We will be getting more info on this part Friday I think. The demo is, according to DarthMaulUK (who is a pretty reliable source of info so far), completed as of yesterday or early this morning.

I thought I told you to remain on the command ship! [Whining] But.. but, Vader farted! I couldn't breath! It is not fair, he has that breathing machine so he doesn't have to smell it.[/Whining]

Well, I don't see anything wrong with that word, Hadoken13. Although, I don't know what it is you were trying to spell.

Expected, yes. Liked, no. How much they meddle in EAW is the only variable in question here, not whether or not they can.
-
Yeah, the avatar is funny, the sig is very very disturbing. And too much time = Vaporware.
-
Well, we are asking this as one of our 5 questions this week, so hopefully we will know for sure on friday.
-
Good question, but wouldn't those units have to be in the system anyway? The only way I see it working is if you have more than 20 in your fleet that you drag to the enemy planet, a group of 20 are who you see jump in, and as they die off, their replacements can be called in via the menu system like for the ground battles. Nothing we know would tell us one way or another. My thought is that if you win the battle, yay, if not, you drag another fleet to the target and try to finish them off before they reinforce in the same manner. I don't like this scenario, but the previous one doesn't make sense either....
-
Yeah, no kidding. I can handle a few less than that, since we didn't have ground maps to worry about, but 10 units for defense? No point in having a ground battle almost.
-
Probably? eh? I am pretty sure alot of people are posting what has actually happened in the past, not making blind conjectures on the future of LA's involvement in EAW based on no previous data. The post right above your didn't use the word probably anywhere in it. We have a valid reason to be worried, because as good as Petroglyph's intentions can be, they don't have complete control over this game.
-
? I don't remember anything about it being used only once per tactical engagement.

Hmmm, from what Delphi said in the response that got us all riled up about modding, I would assume that they can't answer that question yet, GS. Nonetheless, that is a very good question that I hadn't thought of before. I just would hate to have that be one of the 5 and it not be answered, you know?

Thank you, Ishmael. That is exactly the kind of reassurance that I (as well as many other people) need. There are aspects about this game that I am not entirely happy with (alot, I suspect, are a result of LEC's meddling), but I still have high hopes for the game at release, and even more so, after the modders get ahold of it. must have Executor.

This was my original #1 question but I think it needs to be re-worded. Maybe something like this: 1. Please provide some details on how the pop cap affects space and ground units, i.e. of the 20 in space, does the Imperial Star Destroyer take up 1? Also, do the spawnable fighters from the ISD or the spawnable troopers from the AT-AT count towards the limit or is it mainly a mechanical/ship unit that counts?
-
Heh, WhiteSkull, this is what I mean by having the information vs. not having it. Welcome to the boards, Ishmael-PG! I am very glad to see another Petroglyph face in here, as are we all I am sure. [Edit] Horrible with the spelling of the names, I am.

There is a topic that Delphi started for the Q&A round 2. Go post your questions in there or debate the ones that are already up.

Actually an ISD II should decimate a Mon Cal (assuming we are talking about the generic Mon Cal and not MC-90 or something). I am referring to the ISD as the ISD II will not be in Empire at War. The "officialness" of the technical commentaries is not the main issue. Take a look at the sources he bases his observations on. Another point is that he uses the films to form the basis of his arguments, something I suppose EU fanatics will feel is the main flaw in the entire site. At any rate, we know that Petroglyph has some issues with their adherence to Star Wars with the whole shield generator thing.

Heh, you don't think that Microsoft and LA would do something like that? -
I disagree with the Gui being unable to be modded, generally of course since we don't know what they have done to purposefully done to block it. They said that they use LUA which is what WoW uses and there are more gui mods for that than you can shake a pointer at.

Going by that argument no one should post until we get the demo or the game. We can only discuss based on the information we have, and we will do so.
-
The trouble is, that most of us thought that the engagements in the videos and screens were only part of the action and not the entire forces available to all sides in one small area! As for the request for pop cap values for the ships and stuff, submit that in the question thread for them to answer on Friday. I think there is already something in there on that, but check to be sure.
-
The problem is that with this pop cap, they are setting up the scenario of even numbered force conflicts between the Rebellion and the Empire as the norm! Who the heck thinks that is true to Star Wars in any way whatsoever? All I can say is that this is one of the first things I will mod for myself. I will open the pop cap up to something ridiculous so I can find what my computer can handle. The main problem I have with the way they are doing the pop cap for space is that it is a set number and it won't be set up to be affected by the pop cap upgrades that ground forces will use. Ideally I would want to mod the game to give the space portion the same pop cap upgrades that the ground portion gets.

Mind showing me the hardcore facts from LA where this should not happen? from the few books i read the MC could infact standup to a ISD because of the extra shielding. Also your ausming again(something you are doing alot of the past few days) that the MC is not being designed to be weaker then a ISD and that the x-wings and y-wings will not make a ISD vrs a MC a balanced fight. If you are talking about the EU books... blah, don't bother. For one thing, they are all over the place with their stuff, and another is that this game is not based around the EU. As for the Mon Cal's shields, they are not necessarily stronger than an ISD’s, just more redundant so they are less likely to completely fail from overloading. The truth of the matter is that the shielding on a MC and ISD are not that different in terms of strength. Their weaponry is the big difference. My assumption (learn to spell please) is based on all of the disappointments we have had so far, and more importantly, on quotes that we have had from developers stating their views on balance vs. staying true to the Star Wars universe as much as possible. Um, as for showing you the hard core facts... ever heard of the Star Wars technical commentaries? Take a gander and then come back. That source outlines this and a whole lot more much better than I could ever hope to. Here is a link if you are unable to find it: http://www.theforce.net/swtc/. Also, go here for specific discussion on the Mon Cal Shields and ISD Shields respectively: http://www.theforce.net/swtc/mcc.html#shields and http://www.theforce.net/swtc/isd.html#shields. Another interesting set of info to consider is the weapons section for each.

I agree with the thread creator except on one point... the Broadside is a Petroglyph abomination. I like these guys, and I know they want to put their mark on the Star Wars legacy, but I would prefer it wasn't a skid mark. Is there no one left that has any respect for the original vision of Star Wars? We know Lucas doesn't, but does that mean we all have to who*e out ourselves too?
-
We can thank wonderful people like Phantom for all the awesome derivative products LEC has produced lately. I agree, as long as LEC can count on making their money off of the initial sales and the fact that the game is Star Wars, there is no need for any in depth quality. Just look at Episodes I-III, they went completely away from the feel of the OT but they sold alot of tickets because they were aimed at the kids and thier parents' money, and to hell with the long-time fans of Star Wars.
