  1. I have a question Cain. Your post almosts indicates that your and/or the PFF are directly (or officially, whichever term applies) tied to Petroglyph in some way. If this is the case, then Petroglyph would have a responsibility to not allow (or to at least minimalize) negative feedback at all, but especially against LEC. In other words, this is not a free forum in terms of control, and is a waste of time on everyones part. We might as well all be posting in the LEC forums. And I am sorry, but the attitude of remaining neutral is utterly preposterous when talking about a discussion board. But, maybe I have been mistaken all along... Is the FAN in PFF as literal and binding as it could be interpreted? If you are not a "fan", meaning I guess having no negative attitudes about Petroglyph, then you have no place here? If that is true then I shouldn't be here because I will voice my opposition when something is done that I don't agree with. Of course none of this explains what any of it has to do with LEC other than I guess the association I alluded to earlier.
  2. Well, I certainly hope it doesn't turn into that. But there is no point in having these forums if they are not for discussion.
  3. I have had more than one post (the most recent a big one) arbitrarily deleted in the middle of a thread. No message has been sent to me as to the reason and the thread continues. The current initiative announced by Siddius in the Announcements thread is along the same lines and is probably what happened to my last thread. Is this a discussion forum or not? Doesn't a discussion generally many points of view? I have not seen any obscene posts, profanity, racial slurs, gender slurs, etc that would be in violation of the forum rules in relation to the objections expressed by me and others to the current handling of the game and its information. I feel that some of the moderators are using their powers on this board to tailor the posts to be more in line with their way of thinking. This is absolutely outrageous and I implore the members of this board to fight back against this. The entire concept of this discussion board is lost when this happens. If we have objections to the way that LEC is handling EAW then we should not be restricted from voicing these. I don't even know what the prompting was for the "initiative" announced and all of the threads that were removed (and individual posts apparently considering what happened to mine), but I do know that it is not being done objectively and the deletions are of particular points of view. This is censorship and is completely bogus. I implore the members of this board to voice your objections to this, unless you agree with this type of moderator abuse. Reply to this thread, and if it gets deleted or discarded, make a new one... keep it on the top lest we end up with a forum like the Lucas Arts EAW forums. We are headed dangerously close to that as it is. If we are actively purged, and our objections snuffed as fast as the moderators can delete them, our only other recourse will be to boycott these forums completely. Design decisions made by Petroglyph or LEC can and should be discussed, argued over, and objected to or praised. This is the reason for having a discussion board, but having selective posts deleted and/or removed for their specific side of the discussion is utterly without excuse and should not be tolerated. Lets return to the way the forums were before the Live Developer Chat. As far as I know, the PFF have not come under LEC control as the "initiative" posted by Siddius would hint. If I am wrong about this, please let me know so that I know not to waist my time here. I have a suggestion for all forum members as a result of the current actions. If you make a post (especially a long one) you should save it into a word, notepad, wordpad, etc document to pull from later should a moderator decide to counter your argument by deleting it.
  4. In WWII, torpedoes were delivered by plane, sub, pt boats (plywood death traps) and destroyers. The size of the ship is not the restriction on the use of torpedoes. We just never saw conventional torpedo type weapons or missles in any of the OT. I think most of the design decisions on this game have more to do with RTS balance than adhering to SW. I would like sticking to both, but what can you do. I don't have the budget or the team to build something better (right now anyway), so I guess we will go with what we got.
  5. No, you can actually see the ground pop cap boxes in a recent screenshot. The ground pop cap is 10 (although that is upgradable I think). The space pop cap is 20 and that is not upgradable at all. The trick to that is that ISDs and such may cost more than 1 pop cap each so you will never have more than say 10 ISDs or 6, in a space battle at once. A lot of the details on how exactly this works and what each unit's pop cost is are still not clear.
  6. And with a 10 unit limit on the ground, that isn't going to be anything close to what I would think a Planetary Invasion force would be like... there will be mods though.
  7. The big question that hasn't been answered yet about the SD's tie ability and the AT-AT ability for that matter, is whether or not you can produce new units for as long as the battle occurs, limited only be the timer. This will be a big problem IMO. I am in favor of the SD being able to refill its complement of fighters to a certain maximum (the ammount it can carry). Although this is still silly and not very "realistic" (in terms of the SW universe), it would be better than the prior possibility. I really wish we could get some more details on this and a few more heated questions being discussed now.
  8. There are no ISD II, the tech doesn't go up that far, according to Petro. Also, AT-AT are very likely to count as more than 1 for a single unit.
  9. I certainly hope that LEC allows you to have a mod community to work with. We are all still wondering how much LEC will do to stifle mod efforts.
  10. I don't like the reasoning that would allow the Broadside to exist in the first place and other units, like the Carrack Cruiser, Lancer Frigate, etc are missing. The Venator was seen in a Star Wars official movie, making it superior Canon to written works, and more than games, so it makes no sence to remove it other than to save a popular ship for expansion sales (very f ing nasty and money grubby- becoming a description of LEC and not just EA).
  11. Exactly, and this is the main problem. A publisher can have some say in a game, but nothing like a license holder can, and LEC has shown that they will screw with every piece that they can to try to make sure that they get the most money out of the project.
  12. Well, as I understand it, the Broadside was a Petroglyph creation, pure and simple. But, we do know that they are good RTS creators, but not necissarily Star Wars experts (remember the shield generator outside of the shield "in Star Wars fashon"?). This is where LEC should step in and kill the Broadside and let Petroglyph know about an established ship that fills that role. I blame LEC for just about everything so far. Petroglyph may be at fault for a few things, but ultimately, the way that LEC maintains publisher AND license hold control, Petroglyph will be lucky if anything they want to do with this game is left unmauled.
  13. Anyone played Starcraft? A marine can wipe out a zergling pretty much before it even can attack him, and he can do this all day long... through 2 zergling, 3, 4, 20, the marine is screwed. Same with the stormtroopers, if you have enough of them, you can cause enough damage as to make their expedature very valuable by forcing the limited defenders to take losses to free units, or to force them to attack your entrenched attack force, putting their defenses out of the equation. The biggest problem is that there is not enough information on the relative effectiveness of the units vs each other, and we don't even really know if there is a limit to how many stormtroopers can be made by a single AT-AT, we know there is a limit to how often you can create them, but not how many times you can do that in a mission.
  14. LOL, I agree. I do think that the Venator should be in as an early tech ship. It feels like we don't really have much tech advancement available in this game so far, like upgrading from tie fighters to tie interceptors, Acclimator to Victory SD, etc. It seems to me that all current ships will be available and the only upgrades will be +2 to armor, etc. That being said, I do think that the removal of the Venator isn't half as bad as the exclusion of certain ships that were seen in the movies, Tie Interceptors, along with the inclusion of ships that were seen at the same time, Mon Cal. None of that makes sense, and promotes more of a unit-to-unit cookie cutter balance than a side-to-side balance. Hmmm, I just thought of something, what if the main reason for removing the Venator is because they couldn't balance it? (although I still will shout "AHA, I TOLD YOU SO" if there is a clone wars expansion) If the Venator was correctly implemented, then it would be able to produce its fighter complement with a much faster timer than the victory SD or the ISD to represent its larger carrying capacity. Although this could be balanced by it only having lower tech fighters, but since it appears that the Tie Fighter, Tie Scout (wtf?) and Tie Bomber are the only ships available to the Empire, then that wouldn't work. Peffff, I wonder where the cut originated? Petroglyph or LEC? Expansion prep or balance issues? This would be nice to know.
  15. I think that anyone who skimmed over this post because it is more than 2 sentences should stop and read through it. I couldn't have said it better myself and it is a good description of most peoples' true objections to alot of the changes that have been happening. When changes are made to the story, universe, feel, etc with the sole intent of boosting sales, selling more tickets, etc. the universe that was created initially suffers. Like I said, read over Naja's post again as I can't really expound upon it better.
  16. I think that the negativity has been accompanied sufficiently by why "this game will suck" reasons. We blew up about the revelation about the false advertising that EAW had and the truth about the intended timeline, and we were justified due to being mislead. This is another such instance, when we have screenshots of a unit and then hear that it has been taken out. The biggest issue (asside from the deception) alot of people, including me, have with this removal is the view that LEC is making room for a clone wars expansion. Seeing as the prequels are fresher and there are clone wars cartoons on, etc. it is apparent that LEC is doing these things to maximize their profits without reguard for the cohesivenes of the game. If an expansion is truely planned, then it should be in the direction after the Battle of Yavin as far as the game goes. Making an expansion for the clone wars doesn't make timeline sense with the way EAW is designed, but the only other explanation is milking the cash cow for LEC. The constant selling out of the heart and intent of the Star Wars universe for extra money has sickened me from Episode I all the way up to the present continuation of that philosophy. I think that as fans of Star Wars we have every right to object to what it looks like is going on. If we can be proven wrong, then so be it, but we haven't gotten such an explanation as of yet.
  17. Even if they produce the units slowly enough to make it take a long time to build them up to an effective force, the rebels being forced to leave their defensive position and going on the offensive against a baracaded free unit factory area doesn't make sense. If you are defending a planet with your measily 10 units and the enemy has 50 overhead waiting to fill any gaps you may make... your best bet is to hold a defensive position and cause as much loss for the attacker as possible. By forcing you to either waste your units fighting against free units or move out of your protective areas to attack an entrenched position, the game is effectively making Rebel defenses obsolete, when they really need them versus the Imperial heavy units. As for the rebel's ability in space, we don't know for sure, but the unit timers have to do with tactical space or land mode and we haven't heard of any ability being restricted like this on galactic mode. I am thinking that the only restriction there will probably be the time it takes to get somewhere in hyperspace. This means that, since the galactic mode is real time, you probably will be able to take 4 units at a time and space dragging them to the target apart by about 10 seconds. Thus, after each battle, there will be only 10 seconds before another group shows up. Another possibility is that you have to select a group of 4 and use some kind of mission selection interface to send them to a planet, this could flag the planet for that type of mission and you have to wait for the units to transit there, attack and the game return to galactic mode before you can send more. If this last case is correct, then it may take long enough in between for the Imperials to attack the source of the unit barrage, making this tactic somewhat counterable. Until the Imperials get the Interdictor, this could be futile as well.
  18. While the weather effects help drive variety in the way offense and defense are handled on a planet to some extent, are there variations possible or do you always run into rain, on say Yavin IV? Snow on Hoth is understandable as is the heat issue on Musta... er, sorry.. the other volcano planet, but not all tropically dominated planets rain all the time. Basically you will have not 1 perfect invasion force, but you will have a perfect invasion force for each weather type. So the whole perfect attack build order will be the same, just different for the few different weather patterns in the game. I would like to have to scan the planet or something to see what the weather is currently like to time my attack better and things like that. I may be asking too much though.
  19. If you want the release date to be delayed a couple of months or years, they could fix that! Do you really want to wait that long? Their (either LEC or Petro, not sure who the driving force is behind most of the negative changes lately) original direction has to be true or no amount of delays will help anything. You can't substitute lack of vision by adding more time. I think the sooner it is released and subjected to the "true" vision of Star Wars via mods (not all, but some seem to be on the right track), the better.
  20. Well, intelligence always seems to follow a pyramid model...
  21. I expected a lot as well, and like alot of others, I am feeling let down as we learn more about what the game is really turning into.
  22. I think it is sad that the repair list for modders just for the listed timeline alone is apparently longer than the current feature list of the game itself...
  23. This is why children under the age of 18 shouldn't be allowed near Star Wars... they are to thank for the condition of Episode I and especially II and III. I don't care to have the Venator be in at all, but I wouldn't care if it is in either. I just want the units to properly reflect the timeline but I don't even know if that can be said to be totally true any more....
  24. Left hand not knowing what right hand is doing? Sounds like LEC is making decisions (based on god only knows what) and Petroglyph is finding out about them later rather than being involved in them as they should be.
  25. This should be in the general discussion forum and the title should not be changed. This is a discussion on how the design of this game is taking away from its tactical and strategic elements. Can someone please move this back where it goes? Again, this is not a general strategy topic, but one that is addressing the flaws that are immediately apparent, and how to deal with them.
