Heh, I am sure that you are painfully aware by now, that you will get nothing less from the members of this board. We are all very interested to see what you guys have cooked up. One question though, do you think that this SP demo will give us enough to consider? You probably can't tell us whether the SP portion will be skirmish only, part of the SP campaign, or a small bit of galactic mode, but all three of those modes would offer very different gameplay and thus, very different information for us to consider.

Star Wars Creatures You Would Like to See in EAW.

See!? See!? He teases us mercilessly. -
Hey, Delphi. Do you need any help? I would be willing to sacrifice all of my spare time to help you out. Out of the goodness of my heart, of course. No compensation is required. So, um, how do I get started?

And that's the end of the mag and my quotes. So, I guess that gives us a definate cost assessment of the AT-AT. They are 1 pop point each. This should mean that all ground units are 1 point each.

Thank you, Cain. Siddus, do you have any guidelines on what you can or can not tell us here? That would help us form our questions. -
That is bull. AT-ATs are not as effective against infantry because: 1. Their weapons are designed for tank/artillary roles so using them on infantry is an extreme waste of firepower. Kind of like using a grenade on a fly. 2. They are probably not as effective at aiming (although this is something that I assume as they were able to shift the entire AT-ATs body and hit a snow speeder in flight during the battle of Hoth). 3. They have a limited forward firing arc in the direction of the ground. Remember that the AT-AT is about 100 foot tall. Basically, what should have happened is that there should have been fire hiting around and close to Han and he should have been losing a little life as he suffered concussion and fragmentation damage from the near misses (something more believable than surviving multiple direct hits from something that can penetrate the hull and destroy a shield generator from several kilometers away). The other issue is the AT-ST. Where is it written that it is not effective against infantry? Anyone remember that it was there firing at Han also? A units superior health (ie a Hero Unit) should either deflect in the case of Jedi or dodge and have misses against in the case of conventional heros. My argument is that it is not a technologically challenging thing to put this in, but it is something that is much more important in the long run than where a Rancor is found because we will not be able to make that kind of change.

The problem with EA is that they operate in sheer volume. A few well informed gamers can not compete with the hords of unsuspecting compulsive game buyers.

Ah crud... I voted MP after Delphi had already said SP. I don't care really. I just want to get my hands on the data.... er I mean game

Look at http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/index.html. It has somewhat educational and entertaining articles on ST vs SW.

Star Wars Creatures You Would Like to See in EAW.

Well, I guess it is possible, since Luke hasn't killed it yet. But wouldn't that be a twist. Luke gets killed by the Rancor before BoY. -

As I have been given my level of access only to access a thread in a protected area of these forums due to its confidential nature, I have not posted anywhere but there until now. As long as no one minds (and of course I do not divulge anything in these restricted areas), I would like to participate in this thread and possibly other threads in these sections where appropriate. If you guys feel that it would be inappropriate given the special nature of my access, then I would understand. Let me know, thanks. -
Heh, there was actually a discussion about paint before. The sheer ammount of paint required to do that would be absolutely cost prohibitive. Besides, cold metalic grey is very fitting for a vehicle designed with as much psychological terror in mind as military superiority. Anyway, I knocked this train offtrack, I suppose I should put it back on. The things that have transpired in the "extra" time leads me to believe that the release date would have been pushed back reguardless of BattleFront II. I may be wrong and the issues they discovered in this extra time could have been things they just missed and would have had to fix in a patch anyway though.

Well, the SSD is an odd model in and of itself. I think that the final size that has been officially agreed apon and verified against the movies (highest level canon) puts the SSD at 19km. This is verified by the online Star Wars Databank here: http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/superstardestroyer/ The Imperator (Imperial) Star Destroyer however is the correct stated size at 1.6km according to the Star Wars Databank. I can't verify the Star Trek sizes because I don't know a reliable source offhand, but according to the films and series, the TNG Enterprise was dwarfed by the Romulan Warbird. Of course the perspective from inside the Enterprise may render a smaller difference in size as being more substantial than viewing from this angle.

At the Games Convention the Activision Manager me and Junker talked to said that he played a game versus a colleague which took round about three hours. So, if you want it to be a long game and the players are on an equal level I think this might be possible Are you talking about a skirmish map or a galactic map? With a possible 43 planets (with 2 battlefields each) to deal with, 3 hours is not really long. Anyone who has played Rebellion can attest to the fact that if neither player adopts a rush tactic, armed engagements could not even happen for 30 min to an hour, especially when talking about the 200 planet maps.

Be careful there, most of the people are using up their next few years worth of patience just on the demo. You could lose an arm there

Um, that would be interesting indeed, seeing how the first Death Star was incapable of targetting anything smaller than a planet or large moon. And the Second Death Star will not be present in EAW.

:Slap: Thrawn889. It was a joke you ninny. Imagine 0-G troopers with a bottle of turtle wax in one hand and a cloth in another looking at the immense size of the ISD and saying to each other... Vader wanted it waxed and polished by when?
-
Well, that of course, is due to the type of game you are talking about. Bridge Commander wasn't designed for more than 10 or so ships at a time and Armada and Armada II had control groups for at least 8 ships on each number key including 0, so there is 80 ships you can have on a whim. not counting their facilities and stations. EAW seems to have choked the unit count down to almost nothing which should allow us to see things in their proper scale. From the camera movements I have seen, it seems that the zoom level and fluidity is capable of smooth resizing of your view box to allow you to handle the different sizes. One of the things I am going to be checking on is the proper scale of the ships and units. As long as the models and their skins are done well, scaling down should improve their looks if not leave it the same. Expanding the size may risk stretching of some bitmaps/vectors, but with the starfighter icons, I think things should be scaled down to fit the largest rather than up to fit the smallest. This will leave room for LOW's Super Star Destroyers and possibly Borg technology in a SW vs ST mod as well.

Star Wars Creatures You Would Like to See in EAW.
Teradyn_pff replied to Nevets's topic in EAW General Discussion
Well, unless something has changed, Rancor are on Tatooine, and ewoks have been sighted on other worlds than Endor's moon. This may or may not be easy to fix, depending on whether or not we get ahold of a good map editor. -
How long does it take to wax and polish an Imperator Class Star Destroyer?
-
It looks like there would be room maybe for 1 Executor Class Star Dreadnaugh, but more than that would be problematic. Remember though that the Death Star is utterly massive and if you wanted an idea of how big, you might think of it being on the -10th plane of the normal 0 1 2 plane of the other ships. The Executor could be a unique ship and could occupy the -1 or -2 plane. Anyway, this discussion is off of the original topic of how the Empire is supposed to deal with the superior Rebel fighters and the obviously unbalancing and unecessarily out of timeline A-Wing.
