  1. Welcome to the forums. At present we have very little info on recording of these battles in cinematic mode, but you aren't the only one who has hopes of it being in. Comments were made in one video regarding showing their battles in cinematic mode to friends, so it's entirely possible. Whether this requires filming in cinematic mode to have it like that, or whether it is selectable (meaning you can choose how the replay is viewed) is uncertain. As is how the replay/film is stored is also uncertain. Trust me, to some of us this is a very desirable part of the game. We just don't have enough info on it to discuss it in any detail.
  2. Ok, I get the difference between V-wings now. One's Empire one's Rebel. Probably should have worked that out on my own before now... My new question is what the blue triforce like logo in the top right hand corner of each icon is for. It seems lighter for the fully upgraded Imperial one (I assume the top row is Imperial) and Madalorians than it does for every other unit. I can figure out the purpose for every other symbol but this one.
  3. Looks good. I like how it progresses. However, I was thinking that if the rebels did get hold of them they would probably make attempts to camoflage them... Then again if you skin them for normal terrain camoflage, they'll look out of place for a snow terrain. So I'll go with what you've got. Still not too convinced on the gold colour though. Love the battle scarring and paint.
  4. Can I ask what the difference is between the top row V-wing and bottom row one is? In any case the actual ranks symbols look good. I'm not too sure about the non-glowlike symbol for second to last rank. Comapared to all the other ranks it looks a little bland. I know it's part of the last two ranks system, but it would probably look better with another symbol. This is just my opinion though. All the others I think are great, even the glowing one.
  5. Congratulations guys.
  6. I thought fraps was only capable of recording games, not existing .avi files. If someone could give me the video though, I could cut it in adobe to the relevant parts and export using divx. I tried, but I couldn't get my hands on the video. I can watch it, sure. Just not store it on my hard drive. Oh, and even if I did that, someone would still need to host it. What with our own videos now up, my own site hasn't got the additional space for it.
  7. The priority for me would probably be scouting. Find as many worlds nearby and then go for whichever is the most promising. At the same time, I might use that same scout in an attempt to find the enemy's early base. This might leave me with very few ships and many planets though, so I'd have to strike a balance. It's hard to say what my initial moves are until I've experimented with the game to find something that works.
  8. The chess analagy is a good one for my playing style too. I always start the exactly the same way in chess, but three moves in it always changes. Same for most RTS'. You see what your opponent does in response to your early moves and you act accordingy. The main difference is those first few moves are very offensive (not me swearing at the opponent, just in case you think that. ), In games it intimidates the opponent, and makes an early victory all the more likely. Chess, played with my starting moves I have before won in only 5 moves. True, he played badly and our second match laster longer, but in most chess games being aggressive early can really put a stop to an opponent forming defensive lines with pawns. The same holds true to RTS', where a strong foward offensive can really make them struggle to build up. Aggressiveness has it's place in both chess and RTS games. My point being, just because you have an offensive start to a game doesn't mean the whole game is going to consist of that strategy. Defensive starts are generally weaker, but defense can work depending on how fast it's put up, and how defensive it actually is. Some people also naturally play better on the defensive, but the fact remains an offensive start is the stronger of the two strategies.
  9. They should be able to shoot, just not take out fighters easily. Like 1 x-wing = a whole squad of tie-bombers, for example. Y-Wings and Tie-Bombers did have weaponry for taking down other fighters, they were just built with other purposes in mind. This isn't Galactic Battlegrounds, Petroglyph will do as they see fit with the bombing craft. I fail to see how light firepower of bombers vs. fighters would hinder gameplay though, if anything it makes sense for them to have that ability.
  10. Probably the safest option. I don't know about other people, but I think it might lose some of the 'feel' by relagating to a 'new' idea and history... On the upside, the security of not being sued and the ability to stray for starcraft and intergrate other original ideas does appeal to me. In which case I would be glad to offer both ideas and assist in creating storyline, backstory etc. in an attempt to recreate some of the starcraft magic. I'd be interested to see what everyone else's views on JediIgor's idea is.
  11. There's no evidence of that at all. I'm beginning to think they don't, since Petroglyph would probably have mentioned it by now.
  12. Depends what's going on in real life. Sure it will be one priority... but so will be many 'real life' things. I'm guessing I'll probably have about two weeks to a month of heavy play. But as to hours? How am I to know? 2-6 hours a day maybe. Too early to tell. I tend to space it out over the course of many days.
  13. I don't mind supporting it, giving my opinions and any assistance that way, but I don't really have either the skill or time to participate in a mod. If you're really pressed for people later I might be convinced to help out as a skinner... but I should warn you, I'm far from great at it. On a related note, I've been reading up on what little Starcraft lore I can, and have also tried to collate a list of planets. As it stands: Tarsonis, Mar Sara, Chau Sara, Antigua Prime, Korhal, Aiur, Brontes, Dylar IV and Shakuras. I have other notes that go with these as a basic idea of what they might appear like. Lots of those, as you might guess, are very much decimated. I'm also toying with the idea of a Heroes list, but with 3 long essays to get done these next two weeks it's looking unlikely either complete list will appear too soon. I just don't have time nowadays to play starcraft all the way through writing down all the planets and heroes.
  14. Yay. I would go do the pizza gag thing, but I think I'm flogging a dead horse with that thing now. In other words: Yay. Just yay.
  15. Ah, ok. I didn't notice there was a new moderator. It may just be me, but I'm a little confused as to who Dummy is. I mean, he hasn't yet even posted... I'm sure there's some reason for his moderator status, I'd just like to know what it is. If that's ok, that is.
  16. This damn logout thing is starting to really get on my nerves. It makes me dread having to go through all those posts. It seems to be most likely to occur whenever I open a new page other than this one. Links and things seem very likely to make it happen. If anyone has any idea why it keeps logging me out, please... it's driving me insane.
  17. Little late there weren't you... It's been almost two months since the last post here.
  18. Around here it doesn't really matter how many posts you have, but whether or not your posts have a purpose and how well you argue your point across. A person with 5 well thought out posts is more respected thn one with 100 spam posts. The ranking system doesn't account for much really other than to show how active you've been on the forum. On topic, no I don't believe the rebels are overpowered or will be. The whole preimise of RTS games is that all sides have an equal opportunity to win, and it's the actions of the individual that make the battles. I sincerely doubt they will end up overpowered, but if that turns out to be the case, game patches will no doubt be released to counter it.
  19. 9/10th scale shouldn't make that much of a difference, they'll still be selectable and have a decent amount of gameplay. I think I've finally come around to the idea of making them smaller. If you keep them the same size the maps are going to be too small, even if enlarged to 20km by 20km. I now think that a small reduction might help, and shouldn't be at all detrimental to gameplay... as long as it is a small reduction, anything below 50% scale would seem to me to be starting to get too small.
  20. I personally think they've got a good balance there. It doesn't seem overpowered to me, but at the same time seeing them in battles they seem to retain the 'feel' weapons wise as the films. I think a debate over it having more realistic array of weaponry is much better suited to game mods than the game as it stands.
  21. ^ Ditto I swear it does it on purpose...
  22. I have a similar issue at the moment. This forum keeps kicking me and I end up having to log back in with no posts marked. It's really beginning to frustrate me. It means I have to work out the last time I was on and work out who's posted since... It's a whole load of work on my part when it shouldn't log me out. It always logs me out when someone PMs me. It's a pain because it always does it then. Not that a lot of people PM me, but I'd like to be able to accept a PM without having all the recent posts unmarked.
  23. I'm willing to bet you'd be able to balance it with other units, but being able to shoot 17 km, even on a 20km map feels to me just a little excessive. I know you'd have to have line of sight with a scout or probe droid or something to use the AT-AT fire effectively, but you'd be able to bombard the rebel base from very close to your own spawn point. I'm guessing the radius of the projected rebel base shield is going to be improved though, so that may help prevent them from doing anything serious, but I wouldn't like to see them against an unshielded base . Just my thoughts though. Like I say it can be balanced, I guess. It is realistic, I'll give you that.
  24. Music. Although knowing Tarkin was in nearly pushed it to heroes. But overall I think the music is far more important to the atmosphere than Tarkin alone.
  25. The part before is much better. Like before I think it could do with a little more detail in parts, so more description of the events and surroundings would definitely benefit it. I notice you still use quite a lot of the character's first names when you don't really need to. TOne way you could try to to think of it is that if you've just used one character's name, you shouldn't need to use it again unless you mention another character. Until you mention another character the reader is still with the first one, so when using 'he' they automatically think of the character you mentioned originally. I know there are exceptions to this, but for the most part it hold true. I think this is why the fights work well, because it needs the clarity on who is doing what to who, and using 'he' too much would just confuse things. But yes, it's much improved over the first draft.
