  1. Nice pics. The one of the droids looks slightly reminiscent of the beginning of ep VI. Dagobah is cool, but I wouldn't have minded seeing more undergrowth. The films make it more claustrophobic and organic than that. From that picture it seems just like an ordinary rain planet.
  2. Something said on another forum by one of the devs makes me think maybe he is. I mean, he mentioned that if Luke were to go up against vader at this time he'd get smashed... I don't think he was referring to space conflict. Then again, this would be going against what Lucasarts and the Devs are now saying, and he never clearly states Luke is ground based, so I don't know. I'm keeping my mind open to both possibilities. For any interested the full post is by Slab on the gamereplays.org forums here: http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=22181
  3. Juggernaut1985 - (About Petroglyph) They have a swimming pool full of 1 dollar bills. Wait thats EA. Bigedmond - I got my swimming shorts on. Where is that pool. What fence do i have to climb to get to it And because I just have to quote myself (it's like an unwritten law): Darkmark - OW.. it's a hit to the crotch with Yoda's stick. Below the belt little dude, below the belt... Darkmark - Incidently, one of the voices in my head suggested this very same arguement. In return I hit him over the head with a metaphorical shovel. Darkmark - (about the above poster) ...Should remember we don't burn everything. Only heretics and marshmallows come to mind. I could have sworn I had more, but I can't be bothered to trawl the forums looking anymore. Should be enough for now.
  4. I would have thought that would just make it worse. Honestly Cain, this seems all to be hyped up like the point similar to that time when people all deceided to leave and then didn't. I don't see Fosh's problem to be honest, and I don't see much problem with the way the forum works at present. It doesn't need us all split up in to seperate groups, because we're like that anyway because of timezones. If anything that will just seperate the mods even more and cause real conflict between us as opposed to this blown out of proportion frustration by a few other moderators. And Fosh, if having so many moderators was an issue for you, then why did you recommend popcorn and nevets in the first place? Wouldn't it have been more sensible to have had this discussion about too many mods beforehand? For the record, I think we have a decent amount of active moderators, but not too many. We probably just need to clean away or demote some who don't moderate actively anymore, that's all.
  5. Only two months left. I can imagine that they won't hit regular screenings until the game is released, but it's nice to know Lucasarts is already on the ball with advertising.
  6. They claim that the list *is* a complete list, yet other places have contradicted that outright. My guess therefore is that the list as it stands is what we may see getting into the demo. Just a guess though, there really is no other reason I can think of for removing one from the list... unless they just lost the video clip related to it .
  7. I'd have to agree. In practice it would be nice if people always used the related thread from moths ago, but it rarely works so nicely. 2 months though seems like an adequate amount of time to deal with repeats and revivals.
  8. As it stands Fosh, I prefer your list to the demo one Ghostly has at present. Before anyone reminds me Ghostly's is a WIP, I'm aware of that, I just think Fosh's seems better designed to cater to people's talents better, and since the other topic is locked I feel this is the best place to say that. HOWEVER: I would prefer not to see any changes at all in terms of modding specific areas. It seems a bit redundant and more based on people all getting hyped up (I don't know why, maybe because it's a bad time of year or because we have new mods. Either way, the sooner it's over the better.) than anything rational.
  9. Calm down, I don't think anyone was suggesting you were looking like a fool, or was even on that wavelength. There's no point flying off the handle at what Grd. Adml Thrawn 889 said, it was merely a harmless request.
  10. Actually it's a mixture of both. You can survive for short peroids of time in space before dying, but that margin is very small. Probably the space of time Jan suggested before consciousness was lost, but even after the first 5-8 seconds in space you're in need of serious medical attention. I can't recall off hand whether this is because of R1ob7's explaination, but I seem to recall something about the external temperatures being the first thing to kill you. The common sci fi falacy is that you explode in space. Oh yes, and welcome to the forums, R1ob7.
  11. Don't take any notice of him. He's being a hypocrite anyhow. *cough* 1044 posts. I must admit the idea doesn't necessarily appeal to me, and I agree that it might get overused. I wouldn't enjoy playing a multiplayer game this way because it does take out any creativity on the parts of the gamers. Don't get me wrong, I'd like a good AI for the game, but I want to be able to play the game on my terms, not ruled and restricted by what the support AI chooses for me to take on. It does take the strategy out of the game, and while it may not be a clear cut strategy game anymore, without any form of it the game is no longer any fun. The strategy is what gives it that edge. My opinion is that if you want to film it or just sit back and watch it, you add a replay feature. All the time in the world to take good shots and not at the expense of losing gameplay.
  12. I was only thinking temporary rename. Just so before release it doesn't get shut down easily. Blizzard are going to find a mod named Starcraft more easily than one named something more abstract and unrelated. So before release the names change back. Just for reference now, I was thinking, as a precaution. The same 'feel' would be there, just camoflaged until release by the naming convention. As a rule names are somewhat redundant at this stage. We all know what the mod's about and the names of the races involved. Changing the names would give us a safety net, so any reference to it doesn't show up on any Blizzard searches. I also think it would take no time at all to change them all back to the recognised names at the end.
  13. I remember it, but I didn't post because I got to it late and feel as I do now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I feel that this is just a bit of anxiety now we have new mods that things need to be spruced up. I felt the same way when I joined and felt I needed to do something to make the news forum unique and active etc. It's a temporary feeling, probably based on the time of year, and I'd hate to see the forums all reorganised at a busy time of year all for nothing. On Gen.Vader's points: 1) This probably should have been done long ago, but it's not doing any harm as it is. Clearing this up wouldn't take 15 minutes I wouldn't have thought. 2) Same view as before. People assigned to under-active areas would still post in the ones most active. The only reason to assign areas would be if Mods are coming into conflict over their modding preferences. Since we don't generally have different modding styles it hardly seems worth it. Would cause more conflict than it's worth at this stage. 3) Or just reorganise what we already have into better sub sections. Mods should be mods. Devs, in a new Devs selection. VIP - VIP selection... you get the idea. Dummy is a bot to back up the forums. Ghostly keeps saying. I wonder why nobody seems to listen. 4) I'm headed away over christmas because back home I have to pay stupid amounts for the time I'm online (pay as I go). I don't want to be kicked because of that. Got me? So I figure you've got to be sensible with who you get rid of. For example: Marcus should stay despite his absence, because he has genuine reasons. That DarthScharnhorst guy could probably be reduced to normal status. You can't just reassign people who come back bear in mind. If you quit your job and are replaced in real life, the likelihood of getting that job back again is near to none. Same rules apply. It's not as clear cut as you might like it. 5) People did get the chance to voice their opinions. There was no poll, but people recommended Popcorn and Nevets. If anyone had a problem with that they had plenty of time to post a thread here. No one did. Therefore the fault lies squarely with you, should you have had one. I fully support the decision Cain made, especially since many of the mods recommended them and he probably based his decision on that. Ok. That's my closing arguement on this front for today. My final words of wisdom before I sleep are clear. If I find the forums all screwed up in the morning I won't be a happy bunny.
  14. I'd appreciate more feedback before big things happen, but that isn't so much about organising the mods into seperate groups than about people giving ample warnings here about changes so we all get a say. That's what this forum is here for. To keep the foum running smoothly. That requires us to know what's going on, and to be informed. BUT: It hasn't been at all bad even up until this point. I like the way this forum is run currently, and while it may neeed to be changed later, giving a little more notice to changes doesn't require an overhaul of the forums. That kind of thing is best saved until (or if) we become the official forums.
  15. Oh the maturity... You know, I think it's a good thing the general forum-go-ers can't see this. They'd think we were all like this... nuts
  16. Sounds good, but who are the initial people with access? At present you're the only person working on the mod. I would like access, because I hope my opinions and suggestions are useful. Even if they're not, it's support nonetheless. Teradyn's also had some very interesting points recently, but like he says, he has no real knowledge of making a mod or any skills related to it. My only fear by restricting it too much we might become stagnant with viewpoints, and access to the 'inner circle' might become too difficult, even for those willing to give support and their time to lend ideas. I figure a large base of trustable regulars might turn out to be the best idea. If access to the forum could be restricted until someone's had 300 posts or something (unless you wish to join the mod, where PMs will have to suffice), that might work well. I know it can be done on the forums I run, I'm just not sure about these ones. My reasoning is that blizzard employees are a lot less likely to sneak into the topic if takes 300 posts in the whole forum to get access. It also keeps out the spammers and undesirable characters who might register then report it to blizzard. The point is rather moot if this isn't possible, but it could work if the forums support it. However if the topic's got to be restricted fully then I'll support that. Even if it means only people truely working on the mod are in. Edit: Oh, a mod rename wouldn't go amiss either. Calling it 'Starcraft: Invasion of Char' is likely to draw more attention than something more simplistic. Personally I like an idea I came up with of 'Solar Product'... Star... Solar. Craft... Product. I'm sure someone else will think up something better though.
  17. A little more info would probably get better results. Give us an idea what we'd all be looking for.
  18. It all seems to be running fine as it is to be honest. Like Nevets said, it only needs to be done when we get to be more active. As for Ghostly being a mod again, I'm sure it's only you that supports that idea. Sure, mistakes have been made in the past, but he hasn't done a bad job at all. Demoting him seems very unfair to me, and somewhat unnecessary.
  19. It's all fine. I figure as far as the news forums goes there will always be those in a better position to get it than me. I do my best. It's the most I can do. Little.B's a good choice though. He has similar access to new news as Siddus does.
  20. I think I got demoted simply because I was... well, useless at it. I do try, I just don't get hold of the info as fast as Siddus does. Not that anyone told me I was demoted... but... anyway, I don't know what I do now, but I'm sure I do it... I think. I guess I help out Stellar with giving feedback for other people's Fan-fiction stuff, and am generally a little active. I suppose I must do something then.
  21. I must admit the chances of this not being crushed are slim. Having said that, you'll never know if you never try, and there's always the possibility you could get away with it, no matter how slim. I don't know what the current plan to avoid blizzard's 'onslaught from above' is. I'm sure MyZrael's got something planned up his sleeve. What about doing what JediIgor suggests, giving planets and heroes all different names etc. Basically set it up as a close copy with Humans, Infestors and Psychers (or something along those lines). The difference being at the last second change all the names around back to the Starcraft like ones. Kinda like keeping the models as models unimported into game because then you're doing nothing wrong.
  22. Yeah, don't worry about it. One or two little hickups are to be expected as you learn your way around. Now's the best time to make them.
  23. Since he's the only person who seems to be doing anything for this mod so far I'd be inclined to agree. He's being doing the role justice already anyway. Storyline wise I would be interested to see a campaign follow the events of Starcraft to start... (Zerg infest planets Chau Sara and Mar Sara. Seems a good place to start with both Humans and Protoss) and then allow the player to diverge from the storyline, just as Petroglyph are doing with Star Wars. Since the engine is already set up to do that it seems strange not to make use of it. Just an idea though.
  24. Don't forget about when they're stationary. It's more useful in an ambush tactic than having units easily seen. Looking good there Stellar. I especially like the rebel camoflage. That's exactly what I imagined the Rebels would do to their AT-STs.
  25. Thank you, this is just what people were looking for. You might want to take Little.B's comment on board though.
