There are several different sketches in there. In retrospect, they might have benefited from somebody saying, "And now for something completely different!" in between...

Can Vader absorb/deflect Force Lightning?
DarthTofu replied to Sinister's topic in General Discussion
He was very much prepared in ESB, so that might have something to do with it. Also, if you read the novelization of RotS, Stover mentions that, with the loss of his limbs, Anakin Skywalker also loses immense ability in the force, because the force is life and now Anakin has that much less of it. I think it may well have been beyond him, as evidenced by his skull showing beneath the armor. It could also have to do with how tired he was. In later books Luke becomes increasingly tired as he draws more heavily on the force. Vader, being, what, fifty-something, now? would have to draw very heavily on a handicapped force supply when battling Luke, who is already a skilled fighter with a lightsaber. Add to that how he just got his hand chopped off, and he could just not have had the energy to deflect/absorb the lightning. I also remember a part in I, Jedi where Corran tries to absorb a telekinetic blast from Kyp and fails to absorb it all, flying back against the wall. It may be that when there's the much power coming out that fast it's impossible to absorb it all. @Tex: Vader's hand was mechanical, yes, but there are biomechanical nerve endings and such for limbs in the movies- IE Luke's hand. It stands to reason that Vader might have gotten an upgrade or two, as well as some feeling in his limbs. Also, that could have caused other bits of him to start malfunctioning- he seems to be breathing more heavily at the end of the fight, but his breathing is mechanical. Damage, perhaps? Granted, it could just be the machine compensating for more work being done, but he never started breathing more heavily when fighting Obi or Luke in the fourth and fifth movies. -
Oh, man- I checked the page and was drawn to the spoiler on what happens with her in LotF! Man, I didn't actually want to know that spoiler! And worse yet, I think Troy Dennings got the job for a monumental event again! I DON'T LIKE TROY DENNINGS!!!!1 He thinks that he's writing Rambo meets Star Wars! Argh!

The YVH droids saw a lot of action during the Yuuzhan Vong War and the Second Corellian... Umm, crises-thing that's going on in LotF right now... But LotF would kinda dictate the plot line, so we could do assaulting YVH droids in a Yuuzhan Vong struggle. There are also the droids of the seperatist line in the prequals, though I really didn't care for the prequals, and thus don't care to be a seperatist droid. *Strokes invisible goatee* What else? Where else are droids key elements of the story? Astromechs, maybe? They certainly exhibit personalities in the X-wing novels. I wouldn't mind sitting in the back of one of the fighters. Would anyone be opposed to writing from the perspective of an R2, R5, etc. unit?

I enjoyed the 300 referance during the conferance- "This is madness!" "This is politics!" I think there was a line about slavery and death being threatened somewhere before that...

Looks like someone has found Night Wish Shame that the lead singer (Tarsh I think her name was) left the group a while ago and only very recently they've gotten a new lead singer. While the new singer is good, she doesn't have the same "opera" style of singing the former had. Tarja was her name... And yes, she was quite hot. Granted, Tuomas is still pretty awesome on the keyboard, and he's stayed with 'em.

Well, there's always this, set during the Vong war... So far as other stuff goes: Interaction between characters is always nice. It allows for the development of more personality, as well as a more versatile storyline- it doesn't always go where you want to direct it... What about doing something from the perspective of droids? I like the ideas of breaking programming and whatnot... That and I semi-recently wrote a four page short story from the perspective of a robot struggling with ethics under the impression that the engineer who made him was God... Meh. If not from the perspective of droids in some way, shape, or form, what about a last stand, ala 300? Maybe something from the Mandalorian Wars? The Mandalorians are always interesting... Edit: Eh? We could even be on differant sides!

I must agree with you about Jake Lloyd (sp?), Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, and Keanu Reeves (Holy crap, Keanu Reeves!) but Orlando Bloom seemed alright to me in the Pirates movies. In Lord of the Rings he was kind of awkward, but that was partly because, well, he was playing an elf prince- the lines sort of have to be awkward. Just my two bits.

http://explosm.net/comics/831/ Rereading the Harry Potter books in preperation for #7 as well as squeezing in No Plot? No Problem! The Guide to Writing a Novel in Thirty Days. Not the best of books, and I'm not sure that the guy really knows what he's talking about- it's all about his experience with making the National Novel Writing Month, and he has no experience with actual writing beyond loving to read. It's essentially a guide to getting it done rather than doing it well. I'm working on a novel right now, though I don't know how it will turn out... I've been on chapter one for over a month, now.

Lesser God was my backup rank, though I don't know that it fits you entirely, Krytos. Feel free to use it, though. Among others: Sword of the Jedi Amberblade/ Amber Blade Head of R&D Highly Infectious Virus Any other virus or disease you feel like including, IE The Flu, Common Cold, etc. (Probably something a bit flashier than "Common Cold," but you get the drift) Also (Though it has nothing to do with anything about you) Rogue Leader Red Leader Sorry about that little hiatus, folks... It was... well, if you really want to know just PM me. Otherwise I'd prefer not to talk about it...

A second. I write for fun, and I'll gladly take up some more character-creating experience.

Excuses, excuses. As for Mad's reasons, I would assume it's because English is his third language; I guess it's yours as well, after baby-dribble and kiddie street slang. I didn't see Mad BEAK you. I guess only young "blue" whipper-snappers feel they're worthy to have the "double standard" My but you insist on being ignorant and prejudiced against me. Since you're clearly incapable of just coming to the conclusion, I'll give it to you: I was drunk. Mad had a history of making drunken posts for a while, as evidensed by rather odd and poorly spelled posts. Either you've become senile, and are incapable of recalling that, or you've just chosen to believe that I am a fool and suddenly decided to break from my pattern of generally adhering to propper spelling and grammar except for the occassional typo.

Rebellion Reloaded BETA - Questions and Answers
DarthTofu replied to Lord_La_forge's topic in Rebellion Reloaded
I'll specify for him: Members of the Reloaded team, IE The folks who are making the mod. The guys who did the pretty new ships and characters and helped to make the AI more agressive get to try it out before us. -
Make it with stick figures and MS Paint. It'll be brilliant. Didn't care for Thrawn in any way, shape, or form, as I've already said. He was just invinsible. "Oh, you drew a pony. Now I know that a twenty degree latteral spin with the forward turbolasers firing while our fighters attempt an attack on a location thirteen decimal two eight meters from our own attack sight will make you run! ... And anyone that happens to be the same species as you, or from the same planet as you, as well. Unless you're a main character from the original trilogy." That and I always got the feeling that he was slightly racist, describing every non-human character as a posession of a human character, or by species, with one of Karde's (sp?) friends saying something to the effect of, "That Gotal was my friend!" after the guy died in a firefight, without even giving a name (a name which, like most of his other ones, would likely result from whacking the keyboard with a cat) to this fellow's "friend." He just added too much material with too little build-up for it (ala the Katana fleet that isn't even mentioned in passing in the first book and is the central plot of the second) and it failed miserably in my opinion. He is not the undesputed Tom Clancy of Star Wars! I dispute him! [/rant]

Rebellion Reloaded BETA - Questions and Answers
DarthTofu replied to Lord_La_forge's topic in Rebellion Reloaded
Actually, yes. The members will recieve the beta within a few days, this is the first phase. The second will be the public testing. Public release depends on how many bugs we need to correct before release (mainly gameplay and interface errors but not balancing) Soon... So soon... WOOYAYRELOADED! ... Again. -
I read 'em when I was in elementary school. In retrospect the plots aren't terribly good, but they tie in too much with the EU to ignore them. My solution: Look 'em up on Wookiepedia to avoid reading them if you don't enjoy the book. I'll likely get a plot summary of Troy Dennings's books in the Legacy of the Force series since his style is so Rambo-esque and childish. ("Blaster bolts!" Ugh.) Edit: Ender's Game fans will like this. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a169/DarthTofu/pun.jpg It almost hurt to laugh at it...Primarily because I think I should have thought of that joke while I was reading the book...

Hey Tofu, maybe you should spend less time at others' graduation ceremonies (per your own I think I hold the record for... thread), and hyping on Mad (in the WOOHOOO!!!! thread), when you could use that time more efficiently in a spelling class of your own!! I have no idea; what is a "gradation" party? 2? or did you mean "too" muc? like in "muck"? Oh, you meant "much" BEAK'd Does anyone see the irony in this? (the pot calling the kettle black ) Let me clarify: There were no adults present. I had similar reasons to Mad's for piss-poor spelling.

Lucky bugger- seeing it on Friday... It looks like the plot will be about the same calliber as the second one's, but it might redeem itself in the SFX department.
-
My but you have fun in photoshop, Jahled... Just constructive criticism (I know I couldn't do a gillionth of what you do in photoshop) in your first pic Paris has far pailer skin than miss Fisher, making it less subtle. Granted, usually you don't go for subtle ( ) but it could help. *Shrugs* Then again, you might have just done it quick and for the fun of it, so I'll shut my mouth since I never contribute to this section. Edit: Ever heard of this, Mad? It's a pretty interesting concept. Nightwish uses it rather well.

So I finally got to try out one of the damn things today. I did alright for a first-timer, but in all reality it takes more skill than I had for a first try against brutal opponents. I didn't care for it terribly, but it was alright. Not worth paying $300 for, in my opinion.

No... No! YOU BASTARDS! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is going to suck! The only way they can do it right is to follow the book exactly- and if they do that, they'll have one helluva disturbing movie with a rather small fan base! What they'll probably wind up doing is making some piece of crap watered-down version that Disney would be proud of. *Vomits on the upcoming movie* Ugh. I can't believe the film bastards. And the worst part is that I'm going to wind up paying good money to go see it next year! Argh!
