I always disliked how our schools are so negative on foreign languages. I would love it if foreign language was encouraged at a younger age. When I lived on L.I., they started teaching foreign language in 6th grade, and the choices were Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Naturally, I took Italian. Then I moved in the middle of 7th grade, and my new school (where I live now) did not start teaching foreign language until 8th grade. So I had a little more than half a school year with no foreign language, and when 8th grade rolled around, they only offered Spanish and French (which was considered the AP foreign language class). So I used to know quite a bit of Spanish, and it was useful when I got my first job at a restaurant and had to communicate with several employees who only spoke Spanish. Then I left, and went to college, and stopped taking Spanish, and now I know very little. I would love to learn Italian one day, as some of my family can. But yeah, thats my rant on foreign language in schools. Its a good thing.
