  1. It's a lot of work. So of course it won't be "done" for a while. It doesn't mean that things aren't proceding, the Reloaded team has worked on so much. In my hand (or rather the hard drive) is a version of the beta... As a teaser, here's a thank you from the readme from Mask -3dRealms, for holding back DukeForever, so that I could make good on my promise to release this before they were done with their project ;) -the majority of the swrebellion.com users, for not buying the nonsense about us never finishing this :)
  2. Everyone can use the chatrooms, they are on a seperate user system. But the Java version does try to use your SWR nickname if you're logged in. Of course, you can also use other IRC clients like mIRC. I myself perfer Trillian.
  3. If you liked the single player WC3, you'll love Starcraft. It and its expansion, Brood Wars, provided some of the most entertaining single player experience. While part of the multiplayer game was certainly rushing, there are many levels to extend it to the mid- and late game arenas. I am much looking forward to Starcraft 2. The graphics in Warcraft 3 seemed dated, cartoony... though that could just be the Blizzard style. Starcraft 2 has a more modern look - that and the physics effects, hopefully they'll give it use of the latest technology.
  4. Sadly I don't think you'll find good actors who will work FOR FREE! Look at all the various fan creations, pretty much all of them have lousy acting. Prop up with a decent plot and kickass graphics, you've made a decent Hollywood movie
  5. http://createstarwars.org A group dedicated to making the Thrawn Trilogy into a 3d fan-made movie. I think they can pull it off with the proper screenplay, reducing the tons of material into a plot designed for movie-viewers
  6. Yea I think many people would love another Rogue Squadron. But sadly LucasArts has no other plans to work with Factor 5 .. that we know of. The original Rogue Squadron game out for PC too. Sadly, that is after we all got sucked into the N64 and beat it. The other ones... I've never gotten a GameCube and thus never played them. I would love to see a PC port of those games, but I doubt it would happen now. Perhaps they would revisit the RS series for a 10th anniversary edition... it would be cool if they revived the the games into a new medium, as others series have done. Tomb Raider: Anniversary anyone?
  7. Yea I thought those little minigames were kinda cheesy.. but what do you expect from Japan? Better, I would recommend Wii Sports as the multiplayer party game. It is a great use of the motion sensors and controllers. For the single player, I truly recommend Zelda: Twilight Princess. It is dark ... with great artistic direction and plot. It really does justice to Ocarina of Time.
  8. Say if executing an enemey character also resulted in popular support decreasing, depending on how famous they are? I could see the Corellians getting rather upset if Wedge or Han were executed, Ackbar for the Mon Cals, etc. Heck even if the Rebels decided to execute the Emperor, many worlds would be happy.. other loyal worlds would not. All sounds like a good idea for a (wishful-thinking) Rebellion sequel
  9. Yes, you can.. and should keep like facilities on a planet. Why? Production facilities will build much quicker in multiples. If you find you're being destroyed by the enemy's fighter craft, and yet your few single shipyards are already day 100 into their Star Destroyer builds, you don't want to have to go and restart them. Centralizing them makes it very easy too.. you can memorize which planets are your producers for ships, troops, facilities within a sector. Certain planets may have lots of mine slots. Get them with lots of mines. Other planets may have a bunch of facility slot. Stock them full of multiple shipyards. Decending by number of slots, place training facilities and/or construction yards as needed. As refinaries can take any remaining facility slots, just put them wherever. Of course, the problem is if they get destroyed. You'll want heavy defenses on those worlds which are your producers. It would be good to have backups.. if they manage to blockade your shipyard world, you'll have another which to launch a counter-assault. These are all ideals, of course. The randomly-generated galaxy may not be able to sustain all of that. Just work a balance as best you can.. esp in the core where you may already have non-ideal infrastructure. It is much easier to plan in the rim, where there are few existing structures... but of course it takes more time to build up. --------- On the other issue, the planet Woostri has no bar because it is unoccupied. There are no people on it, so no diplomacy is necessary. Just load up troops from a transport ship and move them to the planet to take control of it.
  10. The installer itself doesn't create a link for some reason. Just find rebed.exe and create your own shortcut
  11. Really wouldn't take the time to incite 100% loyal planets. That's just a waste of resources and a futile effort. Better, concentrate your forces on an entire sector. Invade, quell with troops, use diplomacy to bring the system back to 100%. Repeat. Even better if you bring in the Death Star, makes it much easier to keep loyalty high.
  12. I was just thinking about some of the governments and their names. Trying to come up with some cool, non-traditional ones. So I felt like we could start a list.... So really, they don't have to be scifi related, nor galactic, nor perhaps a real "government" I know we can think of tons of variations, so let's take some real ones and then break them down Bold the main root.. ala, the noun Italic proper words... if its not something that would normally be recognized (someone's name, a specific location, etc, then its probably unncessary Leave the adjectives ... prefixes, suffixes, whatever parts could be interchangable to describe the root Add such names, as long as they introduce something new.. an adjective probably, not another proper name. There are so many ___ Empires we could use. And finally, cite the source of such names. Let's start... Galactic Empire - Star Wars Rebel Alliance / Alliance to Restore the Republic - Star Wars Confederacy of Independent Systems - Star Wars Galactic Republic - Star Wars Galactic Federation of Free Alliances - Star Wars Chiss Ascendancy - Star Wars Hapes Consortium - Star Wars Corporate Sector Authority - Star Wars Tion Hegemony - Star Wars Centrality - Star Wars Pentastar Alignment - Star Wars United Federation of Planets - Star Trek Romulan Star Empire - Star Trek Borg Collective - Star Trek Dominion - Star Trek Tholian Assembly - Star Trek Cardassian Union - Star Trek United Earth Directorate - Starcraft Protoss Conclave - Starcraft Umojan Protectorate - Starcraft Kel-Morian Combine - Starcraft Global Defense Initiative - C&C Brotherhood of Nod - C&C The Core - Total Annihilation The Arm - Total Annihilation (perhaps Arm is generic enough?) Cybran Nation - Supreme Commander Aeon Illuminate - Supreme Commander
  13. I just got time to play through FoC.. the campaign was very disappointing. I think Zann's character never really got developed. They just leave things on the cliffhanger. What is going to happen with Tyber Zann and Silri... esp since Silri has found a Sith army?
  14. Finally having time to play through FoC, very disappointed in the way the campaign ends on a cliff-hanger. So are there any groups doing full campaigns? Not one or two new planets/units/ships, but full storylines.. characters.. etc. I know probably no one has time to render a full-cutscene, but perhaps some little clips to generate some interest? Maybe a (what-if) continuation of the Zann storyline?
  15. It's classic CnC.. and I like it. I'm much more into the single player aspect.. that's what I loved about CnC, the storylines. Great characters.. FMV is back.. Lando Calrissian.. what more could you ask for? So its not the game-reinvention of the RTS genre, but it is polished and slick. Everything just feels right about this game.
  16. This is something I'm more than happy to help on, now that I have more time this summer. More on the coding - technical side than anything else. I'd like to see something we can integrate with the current SimpleMachines forums, that way it would be very easy to maintain and keep up-to-date. Users won't have to register between a number of different logins Do you have a current design yet? Something cool yet not too flashy? I would like to see someone finish a guide for the Zann Campaign, as there doesn't seem to be one I can find. The website would be a good place to put one
  17. MLB... the American and the National League play a slight rule difference. It is mostly due to the historical reasons, there were many up-and-coming baseball groups. Those two managed to stick it out and absorb many teams. It is the same with many other sports, college and professional.. there are many associations and conferences. They basically just start out as group of teams.. saying "this is how we play.. these are the rules to join" I keep track of my hometown MLB team.. but that's about it. We'll see what happens about the playoffs come Fall.
  18. I believe it is entirely due to the screenplays that Lucas wrote. The classic trilogy got many script doctors, even different directors to make it a more fulfilling movie. I remember one good line.. I think it was Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford who said "You can write this stuff, but you can't say it George" The scripts evolved depending on the technology of what was established during that period, even the lines as ad-lib'd by Ford. The famous "I know" Solo line. But the prequels... they were entirely Lucas's direction. He could write, direct, and ultimately bring about what he saw as a good film. Let's face it.. he didn't do much directing between the two trilogies, though he did a lot of "executive producing" - none of his movies besides Indiana Jones were a great sucess. No one would probably tell the guy what was wrong with the prequel movies... nor I think would be seek the help of some very good script doctors. The lines fall flat, the characterizations just shallow.. I don't blame the actors for saying what lines they were told to say, but rather the writing and directing of Lucas.
  19. I don't think Edwards is doing himself any good by talking about tax increases . Not that I'd support his position anyway, not for a socialist health care system
  20. Sorry I can't memorize all the lines from books I read. I'm just trying to get through understanding some other books.. those not really for pleasure either.
  21. I actually had to look up abatoir ... I don't find anything, but the closest is abattoirs A french word meaning slaughterhouse http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=abattoirs
  22. You've contributed to 24.5 discussions? Or do you mean something else.. I'm confused, I can't concentrate with other work I should be doing
  23. You're welcome Cheers!
  24. Sadly we haven't heard anything in months.
