I'd always assumed that, because of Vader's position in the Imperial command structure, that his promotion for Piett was official, and hence the Fleet Admrial insignia. There are two possible explainations for the switch in the side of Pietts rank insignia in ESB. 1) GL didn't like having Piett on the right side of the screen and so reversed the image of he sceen, resulting in the insignia being on the wrong side, or 2) Kenneth Colley put his costume on wron, no one cought it, and that the Lieutenant was actually a Lieutenant-Commander, who wear their insignia o nthe left rather than the right side. I don't think is plausible that Piett would have been promoted to High Admiral or Grand Admiral. The latter is out of the question because he was still wearing the olive uniform. The former isn't likely because I'm pretty sure that the fleet at Endor was Death Squadron plus a few other ships. Perhaps the presence of the Emperor and Vader lowered every one elses rank in some sort of formality? EDIT:I'm watching the trillogy right now, and I've noticed thta there are quite a few scenes where they've simply reversed the image to get the effect they wanted. If you watch the scene where Han tells Lando to use the Falcon, you'll notice that one the closeups of Lando his General's insignia is on his right side, but every shot from a distance has it on his left.

There is also a scene in ESB where Piett's rank insignia are black rather than blue. They may also be on the wrong side.

Alright, you're all on crack, but here it goes: 1. Maps are too Small: Erm, they're larger than htose in any of the Battlefield games, and even more so compared to any FPS games you have out there. The reason you can get accross the map so fast is because a TIE Figther/Bomber/X-Wing/Y-Wing/Snowspeeder travels much faster than moder/historical aircraft. Try slowing down! 2. Flying is horrible: I agree that the lack of pitch and roll is bad, but overall the flying is better than anything in games so far. This isn't a flight sim, so don't go into it expecting flight sim controls. Mos ships in Star Wars perform more like a combination of a helocopter and a fighter, and I think they achieved that feel. The activating of the repulsorlifts using space is great. 3. Classes are all the same: Then why do some have missile launchers, sniper rifles and blast cannons? It's no different than the class system in every other game of this type. As a matter of fact, because there is a unique class for each side, it's ahead of the game. 4. Weapons are too weak: I agree to a degree. The wookies are way to hard to kill, but I think that the damage for other classes is spot on. You don't want a one-hit-kill system for a game like this. If it were, you'd be complaining about that. The damage for the vehicles is good too. None of the two hits and your toast stuff. It allows for strategy. 5. Dark Trooper Sucks: I agree with you here. It's a combination of his low heal (compared to other uniqe classes) and his crap gun. The Rebel pilot has a similar weapon, but it is more useful. Perhaps it takes some getting used to. As for the jet pack, if it were a full-out flying machine, it would be stupid. If you're getting into trouble, just fly away, get some health, and go back in. The way it is now forces you to have to think about wheather or not you really need to use it. Then again, most gamers don't like to have to think. 5. Vehicle Control is Bad: Again, it's no different from any other game. The fact that the whole AT-ST turns rather than just the head is of little importance. You still see what you're shooting at! 6. Snowspeeder Tow Cable: If they made it like all of the Rogue Squadron games where the pilot could shoot the tow cable, it would be a cop-out. If players can't co-ordinate online, that's because they're stupid. Don't blame LucasArts for stupid people. 7. No point to Pilot class: Yes there is! Pilots can repare vehicles (either with thier torch, or just by being in them) and can reconstruct destroyed static defences! What's useless about that!? 8. Not enough variet in Vehicles: Since most of the battles are based on the movies, any other vehicles would be studpid. There were no AT-PTs at the Battle of Hoth, nor on Endor. The fact that they give you the Tanks for the Imperials is variety enough. I again draw your attention to the Battlefield games. Not much variety in them, either, but they're great. 9. Rounds too short/only one round: Yes, that is a pain, but if you want two rounds, put hte map on twice. 10. Don't feel like you've helped win because it too chaotic: Gee, you mean like a war? I wonder why it would feel like that? This isn't Counter-Strike or DoD or Red Orchestra where the actions of one person can drastically ship the balance of the game. You have to work as a team to capture and hold pointes. If you do that, you've helped. Games like this go agains the typical gamer attitude of "ME" and force you to lok at "US". If you fail to do that, and the other team does, you loose. 11. Can only kill 3 People: Well, maybe you're not good at the game yet. On average I kill 30+ people/AI per game. I've got over 200 kills for 4 games. Again, you can't put the realism into a game like this, not at that level anyhow. Just practice. 12. Big list of 2 hours: That also means that you can't ahve explored all aspects of the game, so I'm sure some of those will be taken off. Maybe you're just trying to justify not paying for the game?

The greatest deficiency in Star Wars Games
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in General Discussion
After playing Battlefront I've come to the following conclusions: For human opponents, there is a localized damage system. Shots to the head kill more quickly, shots to the extremeties (arms/legs) do little damage, shots to the chest moderate damage. It still takes a lot to kill some one, but we'll chalk that up to game play. For Droid opponents the difference is less pronounced. Head shots still do more damage, but there really isn't much difference for the rest. For starfighters, I can't really say. I'm never close enough or moving slow enough to tell what ammount of damage a particualr area does overall. Verhicls, there really isn't a distinction. You can take the AT-ATs out with conventional weapons, but it takes a while. Your tow cable is still your best shot. -

I thought that they were going to change Yoda's death so that his cloths didn't dissapear too. I watch ROTJ toady, and it's the same as the old version. What give? I guess it just adds to the incontiunuity of that aspect of the films. -
Star Wars: Battlefront

We should run a server tonight some time. I'm on the top 100 for the leaders, but i'm only 30 now . If we can get the three of us on a server, we can show them the true meaning of SPAM! -
Erm, ok, but I wasn't dissagreeing with you or Scath on any of those points (maybe during the debate, but if you read my final post my evolved position is there). I realize that members of one Military branch can be in command of divisions from another, I've nver disputed otherwise, and don't really see how that connects to the SW situation. I'm also well aware of the ranks of people in the movies, though I didn't know that Veers was aLieutenant-General, it's quite interesting . Again, I agree with you that we have to rationalize the SW ranks with real-world ranks to get an idea of positioning and authority, I was only arguing the semantics of specific ranks that I've never encountered in SW material I've read/viewed. As for the ranks in ROTJ, they were quite messed up, though there were some officers who had Lieutenant rank badges, so perhaps there is an explaination somewhere? There is a difference between the rank insignia of the Nacy vs Army in the American Armed Forces. The army uses strictly epaulet rank insignia, such as stars for generals, which are then duplicated on the collar flap of the shirt the officer wears under his jacket (if he is wearing one. If not, all insignia are on his shirt. The nacy, however, uses a combination of collar, epaulet, and sleeve insignia. The collar and epaulet are the same as the army, but naval officers also have a series of bars on thier sleeves denoting rank. Also, for dress uniforms at least, the naval epaulets are gold board epaulets, not the fabric type used on army uniforms. Now, I don't dissagree with you on the point of Eisenhower, but there is one thing you must understand: he was only in command of forces over Europe. The British navy was still under the command of the Admiralty onthe island. The General had command over troops and planes, the latter of which were still considered to be part of the army since there was no air force at the time. So, essentially, Eisenhower was just in command of the armies of other nations, not other branches of the military. And I wasn't mad/excited in my last post. My typing just gives that impression .

I think you found the server that time. Not sure what happened to you when the level changed. I can't wait until the whole clan is there. We'll have to see what we can do tomorow. -

Hmmm, I'll set up a server with a name that there's no way you can miss. It'll be all caps and just be Grand Admiral Thrawn. -

Still didn't see you there. I had some one named Tysus in the game. We'll need more humans since most ofthe server is populated by bots. EDIT:I just took a look on the Battlefront leaderboard again. Under my stats it says I have over 200 kills, but on the board listings it only has 88. Not sure why.... -

Didn't see you there, unless you name was AnimalMother . I don't have the server up right now. When we get everyone it'll be great. If you check the leader board on the Battlefront website, you'll see that I'm number 20 under the Republic Clone Army with 60 kills (which I got in a single game). I dream of the day when the top ten all read [sPAM] . -

I'm starting up a server if there is anyone who has the game and wants to play. I'll name it [sPAM] Clan Server. I'll try and put a balance of Clone Wars and Civil War maps. -
Where was it that I meantioned Veers was an Army officer? I know I did bring him up in there somewhere, but I can't remember the context. I'm well aware of the purpose Veers had being aboard the Executor, and am also aware that there are garrisons aboard the larger capitol ships of the Imperial Navy. I think I was pointing out that it is difficult to distinguish between Army and Nacy offivers since they use the same rank insignia, and I also believe that I pointed out that Veer's had bars rather than the squares we see on the Naval officers, a possible way to distinguish. EDIT:Ok, I found where I mentioned it. I was referring to the fact that at one point he says that the ranks of General and Colonel are not naval ranks. I was simply implying that he was confused by Veer's presence aboard the Executor as placing General in the naval ranks. Later on, he states that he was referring to the TIE Fighter game.

Original Trilogy DVD Changes (spoilers)
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to SOCL's topic in General Discussion
Ok a few things: 1. SOCL, the same person did Palpy in ESB as in all of the other movies. I'm not sure why he was so different in ESB, but it's him. 2. I thought that they were going to replace Shaw after Vader's helm was removed with HC? If they haven't, I'm glad. But having a youn Anaking is very wrong since Obi-Wan is old... maybe he's been eating Becel margerine and has stayed young-at-heart? Unless they changed Obi-Wan too... 3. No N1 fighters = good. 4. Fett's voice change = very bad. I was pissed when I heard about it. I liked the old one better. They could have said he had some sort of accident and kept the clone story, but noooooo. The same goes for the Stormtroopers. Very distressing. All of this is just in responce to what every one has said. I'm broke until tomorow, and even then I still have books to buy for school, so it may be *GASP* two more weeks before I can actually buy the DVDs. -
Star Wars: Battlefront
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in General Discussion
I fought agains Luke in one battle. Unless you have a lot of grenades or a vehicle (or rocket launcher) he just deflects your shots away. I tend to keep them off anyhow. There are some aspects of the Dark Trooper that I like, but the fact that their weapons are so innaccurate, I tend to avoid using them. I prefer the standard troopers for all factions, or the droideka for the CIS. -
The greatest deficiency in Star Wars Games
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in General Discussion
As far as I can tell it also uses a hit point system, but for games like that there is something you must consider. There is no telling what the evvect of a blaster would have on you depending on where it hit you. Obviousley, if it hit you in the head your dead outright (if you're not wearing protection), but what if you get shot in the arm? Leia got shot in the arm by a glancing blaster (wasn't direct I don't think) and she seemed fine. But what if it had hit her full on in the arm? The chest? The same can be said for vehicles. Their armor ratings would be different depending on where you hit them. Hit an AT-AT in the body and you'll not do much, but hit it in the head and will you have much more success? Maybe, maybe not. I guess my point (which wasn't very well articulated above) is that realism doesn't fit very well into the Star Wars universe. Sure you can have dissabling engines, taking out shield generators and what have you, but there are so many variables that it's almost impossible to calculate. How much extra protection does a Stormtrooper's helmet provide vs a Rebel's? If you take out a droids head, can it still operate? It's impossible to tell. Personally I have no problems with the hitpoint system used in the Star Wars games because if they're going to be good, they will be regardless. I tend to agree with JI. Games are only entertaining for a period of time, afterwhich we move on to bigger and better things. We liked them before, and we still like them today, we just find things that would change the game, make it new again, that we'd like to see. After a while, even the "new" game would get boring. -

ADJ: Sure, I'll set one up some time tonight (It's 4:40 now, so around 7:00). It won't be dedicated, so there may be some lag, but my IP is pretty good, so it shouldn't be too bad. SM: How realistic it is depends. If you go for the one-shot-kill blasters you see in the movies, not realistic. I prefer the sort of combat Zahn depicted in his last novel, where Stormtrooper armor can take a beating. The vehicles are pretty evenly matched, and not too difficult to handle. The fighters aren't like in other games ofthis type. You pres spacebar to activate your repulsors, and then fly as if you were walking, only with a z-axis. The system req's are earlier in this thread. It's really not that demanding. My only qualm is with the heroes. They are invulnerable and Jedi to boot. A veritable pain in the butt. -
Star Wars: Battlefront
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in General Discussion
Surprisingly cheap, only $57.00 CAN, taxes included. Well JI, just remember that you can't believe everything you read on the net. From my experience the game is awesom, better than any similar games on the market. As for the demo not being released until after the game was, your theory is off. Force Commander's demo was out before the game was released, and look at how great that game was. Your assertion of downloading the game before you buy it isn't very hones (not that you won't, but the practice of downloading copyrighted material isn't honest). I suggest you buy it, and if you're not happy, just don't recommend the game to your friends. -
Or posting stupid and pointless messages, which is the impression I get from the last post relating to "Alderaan".

Star Wars: Battlefront
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in General Discussion
Well, I will say this. The maps are HUGE! They're bigger than any maps you'll find in Halo, or even Battlefield Vietnam for that matter. I've spent my time learning the ins and outs of Endor and Hoth, and I'm quite impressed. As for the piloting, I haven't been able to find a TIE figher, so I can't really comment on that. The speeder bikes on Endor will take some getting used to since there are a lot of trees and bushes. My only qualms with the game are A) some of the sounds aren't what they were in the movies, but I can live with that. B) The cannon shots from the AT-ST are quite slow, more like rockets. It's damn near impossible to hit a snowspeeder. There are two AT-ATs on Hoth, so lots of fun there. And perhaps the most satisfying thing is throwing a Thermal Detonator in the middle of a group of Ewoks. Those little furballs fly! I've only got one screen shot since you have to pase them in a paint program (the game doesn't save them automatically like Homeword). So, here is the result of my flying a speederbike on Endor. That tree I'm lying next to is what got me. http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TQDvAqgYb!q5xKIjt0jxukqIODDNPqfhSwdXyzbkVtAk4dEViqYmDyWsAa3GdGbEaDCRdA8JCSmzIvOPwsGXxjzEj2xWHUwAEg7HK2bgHV8gecn7et8y!w/toomuchwood.jpg If I post any more, they'll be links for those of you without high-speed -

Well, your EB games guys are really being asses. Mine got the game today (just got the call, booh-yeah!), and they aren't holding it back until tomorow, so I can play it tonight, though I'll be restricted to single-play since no one else will have it to put up a server. I'll post some screens if I have time, what with me being too buisy playing and all. -
I'm not sure about a second story line. I thought there was one, but I've never been able to activate it. In the capitol ship mod they've removed the docking rings and replaced them with "ghost" docking rings. Basically, you target the planet and it just enters the atmosphere, but doesn't burn up. For space stations, you attach to a docking ring.
