  1. Well, AotC wasn't too bad, I'd just like to get over Episode I. Maybe he'll realize how terrible it was and just re-make it.
  2. I'm not so sure that a single player campeign would really be worth it. From my experience the Homeword 2 singleplayer is pretty linear, and you can't select your faction. Even if you were able to have multiple factions, what would you do for th Empire? If you have the win the Battle of Yavin, Hoth doesn't happen. If you skip past Yavin and start after the DS I is destroyed, you pretty much have to skip to Endor, and you don't have much after that if the Empire destroys the Rebel fleet. I think that it's best to keep it with just multiplayer Woo, 1000
  3. The model looks quite nice. I'm looking forward to a textured variant.
  4. I think most people like RotJ more than ESB (myself included) because it felt more... real. For me the only satisfying part of ESB was the Battle of Hoth, after which I tend to loose interest. Cloud City seemed fake, both in the original and in the subsequent changes made in the Special Edition. I know it was fake, but the ultimate goal of a fantasy/sci-fi director is to make their vision believable. The Battle of Endor felt real, both the ground battle and the space battle, and hte confrontation between Vader and Luke did't have the fealing of certainty that the ESB duel did. How many people, when they watched ESB for the first time. thought that Luke would defeat Vader? In RotJ, I seriousley had my doubts. That, and RotJ was more epic.
  5. No problems with the spelling, it's easy enough to figure out what you mean I think Mad was asking if I do any Roman re-enactments, but I only do the War of 1812. It would be too costly to buy leather armor for even one person, let alone fifty . It's nice that the game is as close to historical as one would want without sacrificing game play, though the fact that one ofthe other Roman houses is fighting the Greeks and the Guals is a little upsetting. Not even the whole of the Italian peninsula was able to fend off the Guals the first few times around.
  6. Wow, sounds like your game is going pretty much the same as historically recorded. Is this the first or second time you've fought a Punic war? Was Hannibal on the offensive, and your actions against Carthage were meant to draw him home? Are you playing as Scipio, thus making your victory even more historically correct?
  7. Yeah, the plan was to hold it on a weekend, though if people want to play a game during the week, we won't stop them.
  8. I'm still working on the details for the Tournament, but am holding it off for two reasons: 1) I'm going to wait until Eville releases the next update, and 2) school is taking up a lot of time, so I've got to work around that. Any one with suggestions just PM me
  9. Yes, he's in it... maybe that's why the movies was so bad? I'm glad I didn't waste the $11 to go and see it in the theater, I waited until it was on video. The original book was alright, it as the movie that ruined the story.
  10. Actually, most of th Total War series don't require a lot of computing power to play. I would liken the graphics to C&C: Generals, but slightly better. I find these games entertaining, but I would actually prefer them without the RTS aspect. I prefer the map aspect.
  11. It's not a big update. It only makes changes to the server browser (apparently), and other minor aspects of multiplayer. Still waiting for a big patch.
  12. Well, it's possible to beat it in a day... if you are playing on easy... and for an extended period of time... the game is focused on multiplayer anyhow.
  13. Fortunately Battlefront is through GameSpy, so that isn't as much of a problem. If LA keeps putting out patches at this speed, it shouldn't be long before all the problems are fixed (I haven't found any yet, but they're supposedly there).
  14. The proper phrasing would be "going at it", though that can be twisted by people with sick minds.
  15. But then they aren't making as much money. In the end, that what it all comes down to. FUnny, since Lucas wanted to avoid corperations in hsi making of Star WArs, and in his success, has become that which he hated.
  16. Well, not that there is actually any one browsing this forum, but LEC released a preliminary patch that will upgrade Battlefront to v1.00a. There are only minor changes in this one, mainly changes to multiplayer and it's branches. Grab it at SWBATTLEFRONT.NET.
  17. I completely agree. For what you get, it's not worth the money, and even for what you do get, it's just info otehr movie franchises would post for all to see. I think most of the people who are Hyperspace subscribers are members of the StarWars.com forums.
  18. Somehow, I doubt that... Well, he has changed much of what we have grown accustomed to in the EU. In the EU, and for the past 12 years, we've always believed that the Jedi Temple was destroyed, and that Palpatine chose that location for the Imperial Palace (it's in the novels, though I can't remember which one. If some one with a better memory can lend a hand, it would be greatly appreciated.), but now Lucas has undone this. The Imperial Palace will supposedly be built on the site where Sidiuos meets Dooku at the end of Ep. II, and if you watch the victory celebration at the end of RotJ, you can clearly see the Jedi Temple in the background. If the Jedi Temple were still around, why would Luke found the New Jedi Order on Yavin? The effects of the prequles are far reaching indeed. The story goes that Lemelesk designed the Death Star for the Emperor, after he had taken power, and that he was killed ,multiple times, by the Emperor for failings in those designs (well, killed after it was destroyed). That the plans are given to Dooku by the Geonosians counters this because their leader says taht they do not want the republic discovering what they are planning. If that was the case, why would they take the plans out of the Maw Instillation? It would be counterproductive, at least until it was time to begin construction, at which point we all know that the plans were stored at an Imperial facility from which Kyle Katarn made good his escape with the Death Star planns. The Techno Union's resources woudln't be needed to construct the Death Star, since the Empire controled everything. I wonder if they even exist after the New Order takes control? The accepted story of Boba Fett's origin prior to Episode II is roughly as follows: joines the Empire as a Stormtrooper. For some reason kills his commanding officer and becomes a wanted man. While running from the Empire he some how acquires Mandalorian Armor (kills a Mandalor or something). Becomes a bounty hunter. After he's become renouned enough, goes to Kuat Drive Yards and has them construct a custom ship, the Slave I. Does jobs for a spider-thingy who lives in a space web, etc. I'm doing this in general terms because other than what was in the Bounty Hunter Wars books, I don't know the specifics (like Fett's real name, which is eluding me. Kaster Jasteel or some such.). Even though the books in which these events are outlined were terrible, it was still taken as fact. Lucas has undone almost ten years of history by creating his little clone. I think Paul was a little harsh there, but I agree with him to a degree. Lucas has undone much of the old lore and history of the Star Wars Universe, but we must look at it from a different perspective: First off, it is his property, and if the EU continued the story in a way he didn't like, it's his perogative to change it. Also, it is possible that some of the EU stuf can fit in with some imagination. The Death Star plans could have been transferred to Geonosis for review by Dooku. Maybe Palpy wasn't as sure about converting Anakin as we think, so his plans included only Dooku, who would naturally be charged with overseeing a project of such importance. Plus, think of how long it would take to build a Death Star. As for Fett, maybe he changes his name, keeps his father's geer, and joines the Empire to get revenge against the Jedi who killed his father. And the ship Jango had may not be the Slave I. You don't name the first ship of a name I. You'd name it the Slave. So, maybe Boba did go to Kuat and order his own ship, possibly after the Slave was destroyed. This does go against every thing that tells us it was the Slave I we saw in Episode II, but it's something to think about.
  19. I personally say yes, but for the following reason: when answering questions they do not restrict thier information to one source (that is, not every question comes from, say, the Star Wars Encyclopedia), but from varying sources, including obscure reference books that most people don't have. I think that because they are so closely related to LEC, and because of the overall legitimacy of the publication, that they can be trusted. Whether their answer could be considered 100% definitive, probably not. Then again, the only source that could be is GL himself, and what are th chances he'll answer an e-mail from a fan?
  20. I think the big problem with this subject is that there is so much conflicting information and sources, that it's impossible to tell which is correct in what area. I've been looking at the cards for the new SWTCG from WoC, and they've gotten around the rank problem by simply not showing rank insignia. Maybe a letter to Insider would clear this matter up?
  21. I could fly to British Colombia (west coast of Canada) and re-enact the Battle of Endor where it "took place"... not sure how I'd get my hands on some AT-ST's... or speederbikes... or Ewoks... maybe some vertically challenged people would volunteer for the latter. The re-enactment season is getting warmed up. I've just recieved my new sword: http://www.militaryheritage.com/images/1803sword1.jpg I't quite nice, but cost a fortune.
  22. Surprisingly I prefer the Republic to even the Empire. I'm especially fond of the landing craft they have. Of course, if I'm fighting the GCW, I allways play as the Empire. Of all the factions I dislike the Rebels the most.
  23. That's the problem with us. We're both cold hearted, and care nothing for emotions . I thought we were having a pretty good debate. Well, not really a debate, just posting of information... which occastionally conlficts with that of the other... well, you all get what I mean. As for my starting another game, not yet. I've been too engrossed in Battlefront to even reinstall Rebellion. I should do that tonight...
  24. Actually, I have played Desert Combat, and I agree that it is a good mod. That said, El Alimain is a HUGE map, I agree, but the maps in Battlefront are scaled for infantry combat, since that is what they have been, and still are, marketing it as. The focus isn't on the fighters. The only map I feel is too small, especially for the fighters, is the Dune Sea, but again, the focus is on the infantry. Oh, and the Ion engines of TIE fighter would blow an F-16 away. Well, it isn't lie WvT because it isn't a flight sim. If you want a flight sim, play XvT. And why can't you hover on your repulsor lifts? Well, first try using the Clone Army's gunboat, and then think about what X-Wings and TIE Fighters are. I'll give you a hint: FIGHTERS. Fighters don't hover and attack. If you turned on the repulorlifts for a vehicle without turrets, you'd move forward when you tilted down to shoot. Well, lets go back to your Dester Combat comparison. How big is the difference between the American classes and the Iraqi classes? Not much. They look different (like Battlefront), they use different but comparable guns (like Battlefront), and their weapons perform in a comperable manner. So, what makes this a bad thing in Battlefront, but alright in DC? The damage system requires only slightly more damage to kill than other games of this type. Think of a blaster shot as being the same as a Thompson shot in BF 1942. Takes more than 2-3 bullets to kill some one in that game. It is the way it is for gameplay, not realism. I'm starting to agree with you on this one. If you play as the Clone's you'll note that their Jet Trooper has a real jet pack, though only a limited ammount of time in the air. The Dark Trooper should have been like that, i agree (and with a better gun) Well, from what I've seen, you have to use the straif buttons to get the AT-ST to turn, and the mouse turns only the head. Maybe I'm not turning the mouse far enough, but I can shoot to either side without the legs moving. Think of how cheap it would be if the pilot could do everything himself. The AT-AT's wou't last long. Maybe you think that the AT-ATs requiring a co-pilot to fire the smaller lasers is stupid, or that the pilot of the Clone dropship can't fire all of the weapons, or that the tanks need two people to be effective. In my opinion, they've follows the movies the best they could without compromising gameplay. Also, maybe you're on the wrong servers, because I've played on on several servers playing Hoth, and I've had people wanting me to come back so they can get in the gunner's position. A few more abilities would be nice. I thought that in TFC the engineers could build static guns, and that's it. Doesn't that map qualify as being outside the movies? You also have to look at this from a marketing perspective. EA didn't give you all of the battles from WW II in the first round, they held some back for an expansion. LEC will do the same. Remelber that the maps were designed to play in a pregressive manner. You start on the Naboo plains and fight your way to Theed. I always found the rounds in BF 1942 to make the game feel repetative, and that the second round was monotonous, but that is just my preference. I agree about the mic. It would make gameplay more cooperative. Maybe in a patch. Again, just practice. In one game I killed 60+ people and only died once. My mistake about your total score, though. Again, this is not about the space battles. It was marketed as a game focusing on the ground conflicts. If you were expecting space battles, it's your own fault for not researching it enough. Plus, the space aspect has been done to death. It's about time a good ground combat game was created. Same as above. That, and they would unbalance things since you can't have two fleets in orbit. Glad they were left out. There is very little that is missing from the game that was in the movies. That's why they had to create some levels to create more game play. In the end, you've the right to your own opinion, I respect it. I'm just putting up my opinion as well. People will just have to decide for themselves. Most, if not all, of the revies are good for the game, so I do encourage people to buy/rent it (rent rather than download. It costs less than buying, and is less illegal than downloading).
  25. Ok, the following is some evidence (it's ignoring anything in the past I've said about Decipher because, I think, I've been sufficiently prooven wrong about such sources. Credible they are.) for certain things. Insignia on different sides: http://www.decipher.com/starwars/cardlists/dagobah/dark/images/commandergherant.gif This is commander Gherant, bride officer aboard the Executor after Ozzel's, erm, removal from command. Note the side of his rank insignia, the standard left side. He may not be a commander as his rank insignia are the same as that of a Captain. http://www.decipher.com/starwars/cardlists/dagobah/dark/images/lieutenantcommanderardan.gif This is Lieutenant-Commander Arden, commander of the Executor's command pit crews. Note that his rank insignia are on the right side of his uniform. The above is assuming that the images of the scenes in question were not reversed. I'll have to watch ESB again to double check the exact details. As for the Lieutenant being a Lt. Cmdr, that is impossible simply because the rank insignia for a Lt. are two rows of red on blue, where a Lt. Cmdr. are three of them. Then there is the code cylenders which must be considered. Just curious as to where this little tidbit of information came from. While we can't be too sure how many ships were at Endor, we can guess at some of the names an roles: Death Squadron: Executor: Command Ship Avenger Tyrant Stalker Conquest Others: Chimaera: Auxiliary Command Ship Thunderflare Visage: Communications ship Judicator Dominator: Victory-Class Star Destroyer. Accuser Adjudacator Pulsar The others are up to speculation. My only qualm is that if you watch the scene where the Impeerial fleet surprises the Rebels, if you cound th number of ships you can see there isn't 22+, more around 10+. Even when the fighters are in the "thick of it", there doesn't appear to be anywhere near 22+ ships. I know that the computer display in the bunker on Endor shows 22 or more ships (I counted as best I could), but by that time the Imperial and Rebel fleets would have been entangled and thier images would have been overlapping from the perspective shown on the sensors. That, and no matter how horrible the commanders, or if the Executor and six ISDs were lost in fighting/the DS II's ecplosion, there is no way the Rebel fleet could have been victorious, based on the firepower of the Imperial fleet. Well, other than the composition of the Imperial fleet at Endor, you didn't support your claims any better than I. Also, most of what I wrote was speculation, as is evident in the wording. This said, I will strive to provide you with more supporting facts.
