  1. It's the last check box in the list under Advanced Settings on my XP SP2 ... check there But either way, if you got it working than don't bother... On the other hand... you may be right about the Read-only check box... I vaguely remember having to turn those off now... lol. Could'nt remember if it was that or ntfs permissions or both that needed reconfigured.
  2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307874 If simple file sharing is enabled, you see the simple file sharing user interface appears instead of the Security and Sharing tabs. By default, this new user interface is implemented in Windows XP Home Edition and in Microsoft Windows XP Professional if you are working in a workgroup. If you turn off simple file sharing, the classic Security and Sharing tabs appear, and you can specify which users and groups have access to shared folders on your computer. How to turn off simple file sharing To disable simple file sharing, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click My Computer. 2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab. 3. In the Advanced Settings section, clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box. 4. Click OK.
  3. You used my installer, I had to "reassemble" the original beta4 from scratch and there are some minor bugs. The problem are all the .dat files are set to read only permissions. If you know anything about ntfs permissions then you can figure out how to give yourself full access to them. I'll get that fixed eventually, just looking to get a Vista fix and some new icon art for the next edition. Basically, browse to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\ folder and right-click the Star Wars Rebellion directory icon and select "properties", goto the third tab which is "Security", under "Group and User names" find your user account and check the "Full Control" allow box. It should automatically fill in the rest of the allow boxes below. Click apply, the changes will be replicated automatically to all the child objects. You should now be able to edit all the files with rebed. Note, you have to turn on classic security menu in XP to see these features displayed how I described. I disabled the new XP dumbified menu a long while back and don't recall where you find that option.

  6. As of DirectX version 8.0, DirectDraw was merged into a new package called DirectX Graphics, which is really just Direct3D with a few DirectDraw API additions. DirectDraw can still be used by programmers, but they must use older DirectX interfaces (DirectX 7 and below). I was reading through a bunch of this stuff and forget the other links but the jist of the conversation is, well for instance above. DirectDraw is in DX7 interfaces. I believe at the moment Vista RTM is only compatible of native support back to DX8. Though all DirectX versions should be inherently backwards compatible, Vista has broken the mold because of the fundamental changes in how it handles access to the video hardware. The other bit of information I picked up somewhere was that in April 2005 release of DX9.0c that all the DirectDraw support was dropped completely and moved into the Windows Platform SDK. As of the 2006 release DirectDraw was removed from the SDK as well.
  7. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rebellion in Vista - 11/13/06 I have tried every possible work around I can think of for Vista x64 and have not found a working solution. I believe the problem is related to how Windows Desktop Management (Aero) removes Directdraw direct access to video hardware. Disabling WDM did not appear to fix the problem. In addition, the SysWOW64 lacks several critical DirectX Directdraw dll's which have been removed from Vista implementation as compared to XP x64 SysWOW64 system folder. (SysWOW64 is the folder in which the 32-bit software emulation layer resides on 64-bit Windows systems). In short, if you are a Rebellion fan, do not plan on upgrading to Vista anytime soon or partition a segment of your hard drive for an XP installation. The scope of this problem is beyond my ability to solve. Perhaps more knowledgeable members of the legacy gaming society will find a way, but I am doubtful because of Microsoft's lack of implementation for some of the critical directdraw dlls for Vista. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  8. Great icons as well Krytos... could you put them in .ico format and send to budious @ gmail ? Got the email Mad... thanks again!
  9. Welcome to rebellion! I notice the crashes are pretty minimal with 1.00.00 version of the game. Applying the patch or changing settings with RebEd makes the game more unpredictable in my experience. But there is no way around it, just bad code from a company who didn't give a crap about fixing it.
  10. you can gmail me @ budious @ gmail of course ;P (ignore the bad syntax, just avoiding the spam bots)
  11. Cool... do you have the .psd files or could you convert them to ICO files. Windows will not use the PNG and my photoshop 7.0 does not want to convert PNG->ICO ?
  12. Mad's look good, but feel free to submit any other icon ideas you guys have. Thanks for the help.
  13. Gemini, your provide email does not have the required qouta for me to send all seven segments of the file. Download the ones you got and delete the emails and I will send the rest through, or sign-up for a free gmail account with 2.7gb of storage
  14. I am looking to update my rebellion x64 installer if I can work out how to get better directx backwards compatibility in Windows Vista. For support on the newer operating systems with higher resolution desktops, I wanted to include a new redistributable icon file with the game installer. Preferable an updated StormTrooper Helmet Icon in 32-bit. 48 x 48 is the highest resolution natively supported by Windows XP desktop, so lets target submissions to that size requirements. Post your submissions to this thread and I may use one for the next installer update, thanks for any help I may receive! Remember: StormTrooper Helmet 48 x 48 size in .ico format to budious @ gmail Post a .png or .jpg if you want to display your work in this thread Thanks for your help!
  15. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post updated on November 9, 2006 The installer is verified to operate under Windows Vista x64 RC2 (5744) However, at this moment the game will not run because of DirectX incompatibilities. Installing DirectX 9.0c Redistributables does not appear to fix the problem in Vista x64. If you have Vista x86(32bit) I would be interested in knowing if you were able to install the game with either the default installer of my x64 installer and if so did the game function afterwards. Get Directx 9.0c To request a copy of the installer, please leave a reply to this thread with a valid email address capable of high volume storage (70mb) such as a gmail account. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  16. Nice work... screenshots look good
  17. From playing the demo I was less impressed than with the original demo. There is much less to do, it plays for 20 mins and so much lame dialog. Way to little play for a demo of this file size, I know there are some modded XML's for the FoC demo, but it's just stupid. On the technical side, I tried the demo in Windows Vista, for which it pukes it's guts out when you try to run it. Anyone tried installing the full version on Vista yet?
  18. Are you asking about 1.2beta release, or is there a newer version that I have missed? It appears a lot of the functionality you are seeking was not enabled in the 1.2beta so I would assume in your own opinion, that "no" it wouldn't be ready for release. Assuming that you are not commercially seeking any profit from this tool... not too many rebellion players left... and we dwindle in size each year... would you consider making the source code available under GPL license? Your work would remain to your credit, it would simply allow other talented coders here to incorporate extra functions later, etc. Don't fill obligated to "maintain" the code for us, if you anything like most of you start lots of projects and finish none of them
  19. Organize a fleet with a high bombardment capacity. An 18 fighter capacity fleet with a full complement of Y-Wings or Tie Bombers (2 rating ea.) will be sufficient for two gen core I's. Scale the fighter capacity up in the fleet for more shields or tech II. VSD's are effective to on empire (4 rating ea.) + 2 bombers (4 ea.) = 8 total, etc. + Carrier (0 rating) + 6 bombers (2 ea.) = 12 total; 12+8 = 20 w/ Admiral adds an extra percentage (say 20% for argument, effective 24 rating) which can kill two gen shield I's (12 resist ea.)
  20. In the end... it's really just much more easy to get the free membership at starship and rent your porn than trying to convert divx and realplayer files to DVD... That's my advice and I'm sticking to it... how many more posts do I need to surpase Bob again?
  21. I like where the Season 3 webisodes are going... and the Resistance on New Caprica... it puts the whole sabotage and character depth for the humans in perspective as far as a full mod. Don't expect me to ever finish or release these, just 1 among many started and never completed projects... now where's that English paper I'm suppose to the typing... *Alt-Tab's back to MS Word
  22. Yeah... whatever... kill this thread! It's old... I'm not a fan of GameSpy software... but it's hard having all the people who come to this forum wanting to play Rebellion 500 different ways... so lets list out the various methods that work currently and take a vote in a future poll... and have an official method? 1. GameSpy - Rebellion Lobbies 2. Reply to thread with other suggestions
  23. So what does one need to accomplish these things, a microphone and some free software? Send me some C'Boath dialogue and I'll give it a try if you get this thing out by christmas 06
  24. Wikiwtf? This sucks... all the post get deleted, and bob has out ranked me again... damn gotta be a post whore all over again.
