  1. I'm vary about starting new threads just for the heck of it, but something got me thinking yeasterday. (The post from Piratechiken saying he can talk about things already known.) Someone (either on this board or another) said several months ago that the AT-TE was seen on a poster on the official site (which can't be found now, surprise surprise). Is this true? And if so, is the AT-TE still in? Or did someone see the SPMA walker beside the AT-AT (on a promotional image I have seen), and mistake it for something else? Sorry about the repetitive questions, but there isn't much else for me to talk about. Most things appear answered already.
  2. I think you're mis-using the word 'obsolete'. It doesn't apply to things that are old yet still relevant. The ''Acclamator'' was a military transport unequalled in the Republic and remained so for a long time in the Empire. I don't know the situation around the Yuuzhan Vong War, but they weren't automatically 'obsolete' in the OT-era just because they were old.
  3. They are older, but apparently see some action still. Blizzard Force had some with them on Hoth (not seen on-screen), as well as A5 Juggernauts. Guess they aren't so "obsolete" as described before.
  4. The dispersal of energy in space is vastly greater than in atmospheres because of the low amount of particles in a vacuum. I believe that's also a reason for all the openings.
  5. Those intakes only apply to when they're in an atmosphere, though.
  6. Republic armored vehicles got stuck in mud during the CW campaign on Jabiim. In the same story, communications with orbiting vessels broke down due to interferring storms and several dropships were lost when flying down. A group of AT-ATs broke through a glacier on Hoth, resulting in casualties. All these instances are due to weather-conditions. So, yes, in real life and in SW, weather matters.

  8. TIE/in, not TIE/ln (Learnt that the hard way)
  9. Super Star Destroyer, although a nice nickname for bigger Imperial vessels, doesn't really describe what type of ship the Executor and its design-siblings are. Now, 'Dreadnought ('Dreadnaught' for Yanks) is basically used for describing battleships with the heaviest armor, who are armed only with the biggest guns. Both of which match the Executor-class quite well. In addition, since it can carry large amounts of vehicles and ships, it can also be described as a 'carrier'. Since it can operate independently, it can also be described as a 'battlecruiser' (and was described as that in the old Marvel comics). Since these are more secondary abilities, and the Executors are more often aided by other ships rather than go alone, the term 'Star Dreadnought' seems more appropriate, and it was decided upon in last years ITW:OT. It seems that dagger-shaped Republic/Imperial ships have a scale of their own, slightly bigger and more powerful compared to other factions/species (who have different classification-issues of their own). I like to call this scale the "Imperial Star-scale". Other factions use the 'Star' prefix in classifying their ships (the Mon Cals, the Separatists etc.), so this isn't unique to the Republic/Empire, but the size and scale involved are somewhat different. Using strictly Republic/Imperial examples, we have: Corvettes (possibly Star Corvettes also, though I've never seen a canon source use this) (CR90 corvettes, Broadside cruisers) Star Frigates (Acclamators) Star Destroyers (Victorys, Venators, Imperators, Tectors) Star Cruisers (Allegiance - conjecture, since it's only slightly bigger than Imperators and the SSD-range was said to start with Imperial Star Cruisers) Star Battlecruisers (Praetors, Procurators. Vengeance - conjecture, since it's got loads of engines and little surface area for many guns and historical battlecruisers were known for sacrificing armor and guns for increased speed) Star Battleships (Giel's flagship from Marvel SW) Star Dreadnoughts (i.e Star Battleships with big guns. Executors. Sovereigns, Eclipses - conjecture, based on their heavy armor and firepower, which easily eclipses the Executor-class.) An interesting sidenote is that Imperators can perform roles similar to cruisers, i.e operate independently. Combined with its carrier-capability, its more of a mix of carrier/cruiser/destroyer, than the strict destroyer-term. The Tector would actually be a better example of a 'pure' destroyer, having no main hangars.
  10. Well, they did say there's gonna be at least one expansion set down the road. I guess it would make sense to save some units for that, even if they're not many. (Maybe you can reconfigure the TIE/in so it can carry various kinds of cannons, like it's hinted at through various sources? 2-4-6-8-10 guns would make it a fighter-series of its own ;P)
  11. They said in the chat the techtree won't go just to ANH, but slightly beyond to include units from later films. Barring the Executor for balance, I reckon. I think they mention Battle of Yavin being a stopping-point in terms of events, i.e Rebel fighters vs. the first DS. And that the event marks a possible end, not necessarily the time or the location (Yavin), since you can change history. The only things would be B-wings and TIE interceptors, really. Can't think of any other movie-vehicles we would miss* * Except for Imperial Communications ships and those hangar-less destroyers from ROTJ >(
  12. In Dark Empire, the Mon Cal's floating cities looked big enough to fight on with vehicles. Some of those areas were shallow as well, so we could have a scenario similar to the Kashyyyk battle in ROTS. I remember reading about tanks being equipped with floatation devices during the landing in Normandy. Heh, would be a sight to see AT-ATs bobbing up and down in the waves, doing a doggy-paddle.
  13. Well, I thought the command tower gave it some character. It's basically just a Superlaser with engines.
  14. Even with offical statistics, it could be that certain Imperial forces divide their units differently. With a civilization of over 2 million planets, you're bound to get some strategists who think differently.
  15. Can't this fapping-war take a break, please? I'm sure you'll both do good. @_@ Anyone feel up to rendering this handy star cruiser in my sig? Could be used as an Imperial hero unit.
  16. Since the Hutts were such cheapskates, no wonder it got taken out so easily. No proper steering mechanism, cheap labor used to construct it etc.
  17. Nope, more of an Imperial Star Cruiser This is the Tarkin: http://starwars.wikicities.com/images/6/6a/The_Tarkin.jpg
  18. You could always mod AT-AT Swimmers and TIE fighter boats. Not to mention the Sea Skimmers.
  19. They also have some Action VI transports, but these are hard to come by because they're expensive (well, more expensive than GR-series transports) I also believe their cargo fleet has a high number of YT-1300 and YT-2400 freighters (i.e same class as the Falcon and the Outrider)
  20. They've managed to find some more names on the SW Wiki: http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Executor-class_Star_Dreadnought#List_of_Executor-class_ships
  21. Any other simple response answers?
  22. Since I was 100% sure we would be seeing places like Kamino and Mon Calamari, this is good news. Besides, folks, most of the valuable stuff on these planets are found in their cities. Only that some units can go above water, I believe.
  23. Since I now got to look at the transcript, they never said anything about that at all. There's still a chance, then...
  24. Hutts, for target-practice.
  25. Not even the AT-TE? Arguably the most well-known of CW-era units...
