Mwuhahahaha... I think that just about sums it up, whatever 'IT' may be. It's going to take forever to get through the backlog of things I've missed though, might take a while. I suppose this must be the drawback of relaxing. Me? I think not.

Darkmark gets confused by the amount of posts since he left for holiday, so begins with the spam. He also begins to consider the benefits of a body hut... like charging rent to ants, that kind of thing...

I technically am on holiday, but when I caught a glimpse of this on a late night forum strafe I couldn't resist. One of the best games I have ever played for it's time. There was a point where I could play Goldeneye vs. anyone and depite whatever experience they had have 100 kills before they had 40 (licence to kill). I completed the single player on 007 without cheats, then got all the earnable cheats (Do facility on 00 agent in 2.05 seconds. I'll have real repect to anyone else who can [without cheats obviously]). It was a one sided game and people gradually stopped playing me. Swiftdraw, proximity mines on all the spawn points? Been there, laughed myself all the way to insanity and back. People despised me for it (licence to kill remember, I just let the kills rack up as people spawned). Throwing remote mines then using the A+B buttons to detonate in their faces. C button strafing with the RCP90 through a door to take out a camper. Great times. Ok, now officially on holiday. Have fun.

If you could make an RTS,what would it be like?
Darkmark replied to TSKNF's topic in Master of Games
Didn't I admitt to that already? You did. My sentence originally went along the lines of calling you an RTS dinosaur, but I felt that was unfair and not necessarily true, so it just became that sentence instead, despite you already saying that. -
Imperial Assault 2: Rise of the Empire

Maybe the spherical centre is a little small, but then again it's not all too apparent. If I wasn't lazy I'd go and look up a reference pic to have a look to see if that's what it is, but I repeat: lazy. I look forward to seeing what else you (and the others working on the mod) come up with in the future. -
Yes, I must admit a little more information would be appreciated. For a start what are YVH droids? You might also consider that it's unlikely they'll be in the game at all, but lets hear how they can be useful and what kind of tactics you predict (if they do turn up in game) they will be capable of doing.

EAW Community - Second Interview (WIP)
Darkmark replied to Foshjedi2004's topic in EAW General Discussion
1) How do you plan to address researches in EAW? Will there be the classic research yard, where research affects all existing craft, gaining instant benefit, or the more modern upgrade of individual unit groups by the player's choice as they are needed. 2) We've seen ground based heros, and a sample of their power in Darth Vader. What can we expect from space 'hero' units? Will they have abilities of their own, or if existing Heroes can be applied to different spacefaring vessels will it have an effect other than an attribute boost (to damage and accuracy for example)? (I will add more as I come up with more ) -

SP has a place and so does MP. For me, if an RTS overdoes it with the RPG elements it fails because gameplay is shot to hell by the the RPG aspects. If you don't include any it becomes tedious and as if RPG games have never advanced. In that way Swiftdraw, you're set on the old style, when multiplayer games had SPs which were secondary. Nowadays if you buy a RTS game, you expect RPG elements, but with as little impact on gameplay is possible. SPs are built in mind just as much (if not more) then multiplayer. I for one don't mind the way they're headed. I like the ability for units to have names, and to feel connected with the troops I have. I like a variety of mission for single player. I'm less likely to leave a game that has these creative RPG elements than one where all units look the same and are in effect 'faceless' canon fodder. -

I don't know, they look prettty darn good. Nice work with the site as well, looks very speccy. -
You win a feeling of self satisfaction and good will for the fine efforts you as an individual have done to the community... ...and maybe a mousepad... Mousepad may be invisible and phased to disallow anyone from toughing it. Not applicable to anywhere outside of Canterbury or to any persons under the age of 200. Second prize is a smaller feeeling of self satisfaction, and third will leave with nothing. He is the weakest link...

I would play more console games... but my gamecube is downstairs, so I don't much. But I do play other genres on the PC. RTS is my favourite, but that doesn't stop me enjoying other games. Also, is it mainly the dads that like games? The only time my mum's ever got involved was with sim city 2000 where she would walk past and tell me to build more parks...
-
That I would be happy with, but that goes in the whole 'replay' designation as opposed to a recording of a battle. I doubt we'll be able to film from replays (should they have them) but instead are limited to filming only during the actual battle.
-
They'd probably cost a bomb to build, so unless you purposely sit there doing nothing, as does your opponent, you won't get enough of them. Likewise, in that time your opponent will have been building up his own fleet too, and he'll have superior numbers because your SSDs took so long to build. It will be balanced if you get more than one, surely. If they're designated as Hero ships though, you may find you're allowed only the one (executor probably).

I don't know. It sounds ok, but I must admit it doesn't have all that much of a grip on me. I was looking for something original story and culture wise like Rise of Legends looks like it will be. Supreme Commander just... it doesn't seem to have any spark... Maybe I'm alone in this view... -
It's probably for the best. If it was going to end up a bad game, then they were right to pull it from production. The world needs and deserves less badly designed games made. Something similar is bound to get underway eventually.
-
Yes, but all the cinematics we've seen have been have been via the 'battle cam'. They show absolutely footage with any similar human controlled/set up camera. I'd like the freedom to film what I like, not what the computer choses for me.
-
A free camera wouldn't take up more space, since it would be identical to the way the computer handles filming for the 'battle cam'. It would probably be less hard on the computer than the cpu guessing where the action is constantly. Also, recorded games in other RTS' are often saved as very small compressed files, so as long as it's not third party file size isn't an issue. I'd definately want a fast forward (better would be a set speed bar for slow mo to super fast), pause, and like you say the ability to jump to anywhere in the replay.

EA has the rights, so don't count on it.

Darkmark replied to TSKNF's topic in Master of Games
I watched the first two series of Red vs Blue before playing Halo, and I think that affected my enjoyment of it. It's worth playing just for the feel of the game. But still on topic: I like the halo idea, but Bungie has the rights to that, so I can see it not happening. At least not yet anyhow. I know near on nothing about Gundam, so Ghosty's idea doesn't really appeal to me. Maybe if I'd seen some maybe I wouldn't feel so ambivalent towards it. My superhero idea, now that was cool, but I can't vote for myself now can I... I'd like something original from an RTS, and something not turn based. Sure sometimes turn based games are cool, but they're just not for me. -
Last year of Uni here, so what with that needing some effort put into, plus the machinima project I work on, plus modereating here... If I find the time to model anything it will be a miracle after Septemeber.

I would have posted, but it's would have been 5 in the morning here, and I was asleep. As it is I have to stay up until midnight/1am here to keep up with you guys.

Not just a console forum, but one for all non RTS related games. It's hard to talk about any other types of games without putting it in the pub, which isn't really the greatest place for them. And surely we play other types of game right... right?
-
Come on, recording a game with Fraps is no fun. Also imagine the file size of that. 1 minute and 6 seconds only, come to a whopper of 163 recording in Fraps. So lets say a game lasts, ONLY half an hour (it's a short game played), that comes to... 4890Mb for one half an hour play. So third party recording... I would prefer not. EDIT: I lie. The file size I gave as an example was compressed (not as well as I would have liked, but compressed none the less). An accurate recording: Lasts 1.02 File size 313mb So total of: 9390mb over HALF AND HOUR! Imagine a two hour game...

EAW Game Design: Rewards, Enlarged Interactvity, Balanceing
Darkmark replied to Cain's topic in EAW General Discussion
Still not convinced Stallar. It sounds better when you put it that way and explain it a little more, but still looks like a hell of a lot of programming involved for very little gain. I also think if it could be done with the one scale, multiple scales are annoying. As Vader89 said, not in game so no arguing about it from me from this point on either. -
Yes, but you have fanatical devotion to your posting. How Ghostly keeps up I'll never know...
