Because... The historian Herodotus (484 BC–ca. 425 BC), and the scholar Callimachus of Cyrene (ca 305–240 BC) at the Museum of Alexandria, made early lists of "seven wonders" but their writings have not survived, except as references. Hence... they made the list when the Colossus supposedly existed.. but their writings having not survived and only being references brings in to question the existence of the colossus since when the known list was written by Antipater of Sidon the Colussus had since been destroyed. I know how big 8 meters is. Which I think is actually only a lot for a man, but a bit for a statue. Thats what we are all answering. Hence why i said it is a feat of engineering.. and they definately had more modern technology in the 1920's(!!!!) than they did in 280BC(!!!) To answer that.. I find that pretty damn amazing. I agree with ya on this one J, I really dont think a statue that was engineered in the late 20's to be a wonder of the world.... a feat of engineering yes.. but not a wonder... It's bigger by only 8 meters.. which you would think they could have made it bigger by a lot more than that, being that it was built over 2,100 years later! With "superior" technology and engineering none the less! If the Great Wall should count why not an ENTIRE city made by a pre-columbian society?? I mean isn't it just a bit crazy that an ENTIRE city was built in the high reaches of a mountain by a civilization without the use of any industrial means?? I find that a wonder.. hell I can barely stomach mowing the lawn in the middle of summer for less than 2 hours.. i couldn't imagine even trying to build an entire city and road system in a high altitude environment..

Just popping in to address this.. cuz i meant to earlier and just remembered.. but... If anything Tofu.. I would argue the homophobia has gone DOWN since I was thirteen and kids would be MORE likely to try such odd things especially when "experimenting" during the adolescent years. Perhaps, things such as this FICTIONAL story talks about were more likely in the 70's (during the openness of those times) but I still wouldn't put it past anyone... and might even argue that even back then people wouldn't have thought of such things.. And just because you or I were smart enough to do things wisely.. doesn't mean other would be nearly as bright... you basically prove my point by feeling the need to put that modifier on your story.... I tend to be a cynic when it comes to the intelligence of human kind.. especially when I drive around, walk around and even sit around every day observing the shear stupidity of our average specimen of this race..

I'll have to agree with SOCL here, I saw that movie about a month ago and must say that is absolutely spectacular. Oh.. and go see Knocked up if you haven't.. if i didnt already say that.. its a great movie.... If you've seen it.. you'll get this.. That's how you get pink eye.

i think spam is qualified as posts which are useless or completely lacking in content relevant to the topic at hand.. or lacking in quality as well... for instance Rob has been posting quite a bit more than usual recently.. but they have been "quality" posts.. so to speak.. at least in my opinion.. he generally stays on topic and keeps the foolishness to a minimum generally... but thats just my two cents..

you should read Chuck Palahniuk's short story Guts about that one.. i know what she was really up to... heh.. its a nasty story.. and it was originally featured in a men's magazine to go unnamed... but its available in one of his books now too... called Haunted... although.. it being a 6 year old I doubt his story is relevant.. i just wanted to mention it really....

most humans learn from experience.. usually poor experiences.. I mean.. I think you can tell them yes.. that is actually what needs to be done.. but more than likely eventually you or someone else is probably gonna catch your child "inappropriately" touching someone.. either at a young age.. or at a somewhat older age... I've known plenty of variety to occur in that regard.. but didn't all little kids play "doctor" and crap like that?... usually to their parents dismay?.. i think its in the process of learning that this happens..

Well, I finally got to see Hostel II on Friday.. it was pretty good. Not as much gore as I was hoping for.. but still some really disturbing parts. I think it was all around an ok movie. Although the ending was way predictible, I called it like 20 minutes into the movie.. but whatever... anyways.. I still didnt get to see 1408 though

I'm going to go see Hostel II tonight... although I have heard it didn't get good reviews.. i just can't pass up movies like this though.. and I'm dying to go see 1408.. I'm gonna try to see it Saturday if I can get away with it....

I wanna know what game that was that Def was showing screen caps from ... but aside from that.. i'm slowly playing Warcraft III: Frozen Throne .. its pretty fun..
