I watched my first Olympic event today... France vs. Angola in handball. I must say, it looks interesting. Ive never seen or heard of the sport before, but it looked really fun. I think the best way to describe it is lacrosse without sticks.

Soooo...instead of wasting time telling people to sign a petition that will make force you to do something, you should just suck it up and finish your brilliant work!

Actually, thats not how I picture a female dwarf. Im pretty sure that in the Lord of the Rings, Tolkien has someone (probably Gimli) mention how female dwarfs are similar in appearance to males, and also have beards.

Current/Recent World Conflicts thread.

That is horrible. Tensions have been mounting for a long time between Russia and Georgia. It was only a matter of time. Hopefully they can come to some sort of peace agreement swiftly to end this. -
We went to see Step Brothers last night. It was pretty hilarious. Will Ferrill totally redeemed himself from Semi-Pro, which was a horrible movie. I laughed the entire movie. You should all check it out.

I must say that Soul Calibur IV is one of the games I would love to get, whenever I happen to finally get my PS3...

Sounds interesting. I have never played a fee-based MMO game before. I guess I just dont like the idea of paying a subscription to play a game. Its probably better that I dont, since Ive heard those games are addictive. Thats the last thing I need.

Happy B-Day J. Hope it was a sweet one.

That Kratos one is awesome! I hope they dont screw up the upcoming movie...

Oh wow! I hope they are better than Arnolds. I was very disappointed with those movies.

OMG LLF, you scared the crud outta me!!!

I just finished playing Tales of Symphonia, I ended up putting almost 55 hours to complete it. It was definitely one of the longest RPGs I even played (the previous winner was Kingdom Hearts, with 40-some odd hours). It was a pretty interesting game. Had a good story and a really great combat system that I enjoyed.

As a matter of fact they do. Is it known as a UFO haven? They live near the town of Pine Bush, which is very famous (locally) for "UFO experiences".

I like the new topic title Eagle. I voted that I have seen something, because I did. My father and I saw a weird light in the sky that clearly not a known airplane or spotlight or anything like that. I dont know if it was a alien spacecraft, a secret military plane (my family lives near an air base), or something else. Fact is, it was an unidentified flying object.

The movie is going to be sort of the "pilot" for the series that will air later on. So I guess we have to see the movie first to get what the TV series is going to be working with. I for one am somewhat excited. This is one section of the Star Wars universe which I find interesting, yet little is known about it (basically the gaps between Episodes II and IV). Im excited to see the formation of the Rebellion, and the fate of the remaining Jedi. Should be pretty cool.

As far as future villains, there is only one I would like to see: Bane. Bane was introduced (very poorly) in Batman & Robin, the last of the original Batman movie series from the 90s. He really was cheated, and was greatly overshadowed by Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze, becoming nothing more than a common thug. However, in the comics, the badass broke Batman's back. I think he would be the perfect fit for the next Batman movie. Batman Begins started off with two obscure villains (Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul), and I can see it doing the same for the next film. They have already used the Joker (who is a must, being Batman's arch-nemesis), and I must admit that I can do without the likes of the Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and other villains who appeared in the previous movie series. So yeah, I would love to see Bane. Or The Mad Hatter..

My parents went away on vacation last week, and left our dog at the kennel. The people there liked him and put him on their website.

Well, I totally forgot there was going to be a theatrical movie release for The Clone Wars until I saw the commercial today, stating the August 15th release date. I figured we should get a thread for the movie started up, since it will be out in about three weeks. Im looking forward to it, and I got the misses to agree to join me opening day. The only problem was that I have to see Mama Mia with her, but its a price Im willing to pay.

Heh, none of my works are ever gonna be published. Just sit on my computer, unfinished...

Its been awhile since this thread has seen any use... Here is a "teaser" from my short story in progress, which is tentatively titled "Contact". Its not perfect at all, just the initial introduction of main characters. Im sure names and places would be changed. Tim slowed the car and turned into the abandoned field. He drove slowly so as to not damage his car in the tractor grooves that littered the hay field. He drove out to the middle of the field and stopped the car. He turned the headlights off and got out. He stretched as Mike also got out. Mike turned on a flashlight and shined it in Tim's face. "You sure this is the place?" Tim blocked the blinding beam that clashed with the blackness that was 1:00am in Pine Bush, NY. "Yeah, that's what Joe said. He swears that he saw them here." The two seniors ventured out a few feet into the field, and then sat down on the damp grass. It was a cool May night, and they were spending their weekend looking for the "strange lights" that many people have been claiming to see in the area for many years. Recently, their friend Joe had claimed to have seen the lights just last week while he and his girlfriend had pulled over for a makeout session away from their parents. Mike suddenly jumped up. "Hey, did you hear that?!" Tim looked over at him. "What are you talking about?". "I heard something," said Mike, "in the car." Tim heard the click of the flashlight as Mike turned it on and started peering through the backseat window. "Oh yeah," he said, "there's definitely something back there, man." Tim stood up. "What the hell are you talking about? What's back there?" Mike opened up the back seat and poked his head in. "Hmmm...it's cold, wet, refreshing...whatever it is, it's not human Tim. My God, I…I think it’s…brewskis!!!" Tim laughed as Mike came out with a cold six-pack. Two beers later, they were both lying on their backs in the field again, looking up at the clear night sky. "Hey Mike," said Tim, "do you really think we'll see anything tonight?". "I dunno man," answered Mike, "but I'm sure as hell ready to start seeing some other junk". Tim looked over to see Mike pull out a small zip lock bag from a pocket of his jean jacket. Tim laughed. "No you didn't man." Mike gave him his biggest smile. "Oh yes I did. Let the party begin!" Just then, a star streamed across the sky, catching both boys’ eyes. They gaped as the "star" they saw turned from white to red, and then began zigzagging across the sky above them. "We didn't start smoking yet, did we?" asked Mike, still transfixed on the light in the sky. "No, we certainty did not", answered Tim. Suddenly, the light stopped moving and stayed in one spot. The color then changed to white again, and it suddenly began to grow bigger. Tim realized that the light wasn't growing, it was getting closer. He looked over at Mike. "What the hell is that?!" he screamed. "I dunno man!" yelled Mike. The two boys began crawling as the light got closer and closer. As they reached the car, the field was suddenly alight, brighter than broad daylight. Both of them fell on their backs, shielding their eyes from the intensely radiating light. They flipped onto their backs to hide their eyes in the wet, cool grass as the light gave a loud screech. Then, as suddenly as it happened, both the light and sound were gone. Mike and Tim both sat up and looked over at the field. They were shocked to see a huge metal craft in the middle of the field. The craft was about two car lengths long, and about one story high. It was relatively flat, with a small triangle on top, and was covered in dull blinking green lights, nowhere near as bright as before. Tim and Mike stood up, leaning on the car for support. "Dude...", breathed Mike. "Yeah...", answered Tim. Then, they were forced to hide their eyes again as the middle of the craft opened up, once again flooding the field with a bright white light. The light then died down, and the boys were able to see again. They were able to see a figure standing at the entrance to the craft. To the boy’s horror, the figure stepped out of the object and began walking towards them. Mike fell to the grass, cowering in fear, while Tim took a close look at the figure as leaning against the car for support. He could make out the details as it approached. It stood a little under six feet tall, and walked on two legs. Two arms swung at the figures side, and its head was cocked to one side, curiously taking in the fetal position that Mike had taken. It was then that Tim realized the figure greatly resembled that of a human. The figure got to within ten feet of Tim and stopped. It raised its right hand in greeting, and said in perfect English, "Hello. My name is Tash. I hail from Zonodote. What is your name?" He then extended a normal, human hand to Tim, waiting for him to shake it. Actually, thought Tim as he slowly and cautiously extended his shaking arm to meet the offered one, he doesn't resemble a human. He IS a human.

Thats a very interesting find Eagle. I tend to be one of faith, and I dont see why, if God could create Earth, he couldnt also create another planet. I mean, after so much time, any diety would get bored watching the same stuff, and might try to create another world. At one point, I started writing a story based around this, where there were aliens from other planets who eventually made contact with Earth, and these intergalactic beings were closer to God than humans were, and were thus "spreading his word" to other planets. I know I posted a short teaser for it at some point in the "Creative Writings" thread, but its not there now. Maybe it was lost in the site shutdown all that time ago.

Just came back from seeing Dark Knight. It was awesome, and better than Iron Man and the Hulk. I thought Ledger got the Joker down to a science. He was perfect. I knew he would be the moment I heard his maniacal laughter oh so long ago during the first teaser (there was no video...only audio against the Batman logo). He also had this thing he did with his tongue which was also creepy. The thing that surprised me was the middle-ending. Basically, I anticipated a third movie, and what I assumed would happen in the third movie happened in the second, and I was very shocked. They kept it hidden very well, since I had heard no rumor of it at all. My only problem is the ending. It doesn't really end with much closure, and leaves you wondering "what is going to happen in the third one?" Not because they leave you on a cliffhanger, but because there is no hint at where its going to go. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic film. Definitely the best I've seen all year, and it truly lived up to all the hype. Everyone should check it out, regardless of if you saw Batman Begins or not. Its just an excellent movie.

I agree with you on Hamlet 2 and Tropic Thunder. Both seem like they are ridiculously insane. Especially Hamlet 2, the rock-and-roll-Jesus-in-love movie.

Happy Belated Birthday K! Glad you had a good time seeing a sweet flick.
