Here's the old ship list thread - 5 pages worth of maily ship names and a few links to some sites that had complete or near complete listings of ship names from Star Wars . . . page 3 I think I posted a few of those links http://www.swrebellion.com/forums/postx1106-0-0.html

I originally came here a long time ago after doing a search for some Rebellion related stuff at a mates house - I think we were trying to get RebEd. Anyway, we lost the site and it wasn't until a year or so ago I found it again and decided that I'd join up. And well, the rest is history

Wow, been a while since anyone's been here Well, I was actually going to post because I was getting back into it. I'd started attacking and reaping the benifits and got my rank up to around 60,000 from 70,000 in about two weeks. Now, however, this has all changed. . . Whitness: AGE 5!!! So, the game's been reset for the new age and I'm wondering who's going to be there and what changes are you going to make?

Ship Request: Imperial Star Destroyer and SSD With Textures
Krytos replied to Saron2of4's topic in Rebellion Model Editing
I havn't had the time to do any more request as of late - I think the last one I did was the Hapan Battle Dragon a month or so ago Anyone else out there that wants to give a shot at some of these models? I wont be free from uni for a while yet, and once its over I've got a bit of other crap to get out of the way berfore I start taking requests again -
Terrific work as per usual J

Ok, then the real question is: What can you do with these computers ? What do you actually have access to on them? Because it sounds as if prety much everything is locked down

I was referring to the swearing in his post - which is generally kept out of the forum. I've been seeing a bit of swearing lately on the forum, and I'm surprised the moderators havn't said something about it yet. Still, try to remember there are members here that are quiet young - so just be a little more careful with what is written. I also assumed that Aenivae was being sarcastic - though as Evaders pointed out at the start of this post religion is a tricky subject that can offend easily. I figured Tofu and Psych would go along with it - though I was thinking more of other readers who could be offended and start flaming.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, oi oi! I'm living in number 1 - Melbourne!!!! Once I figure out why it's number 1 I'll let you all know Wow, in fact the worst place in Australia is ranked 8th with a tie of Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. Umm, by any chance did Australians do this ranking? I mean Adelaide is 8th tied with Sydney?!? Looking at the list, I'd put Adeliade at 80-90th position

If you look realt close, in the Episode I senate scene you can see that Alien species on one of the platforms

New Jedi Order [s]Total Conversion[/s] MOD
Krytos replied to Defender_16's topic in Rebellion Editing
hmm, I'll have to try it on the weekend again - I gave it a whirl today and it killed RebEd everytime I tried to view it . . . oh well, mgiht be Rebed. I'll re download it and try it ingame on the weekend. -
Well, I've used both Maya, 3ds, Blender, Bryce and Wings (ok, doesn't count as a renderer). This is pretty much what I've found: Maya has a quick interface, simple - but at the same time lacking functionality that 3ds has. It allows you to reach most functionality quickly with the space bar. It's good, but I've also found whilst using it the only reason I used this function was to try and find how to do something in Maya. I found a lot of things disorganised to my tastes. Maya has a more powerful pipline - however doesn't treat low powered CPUs well at all and acts as if you're viewing a high poly model. Most of it's tools are simplistic, allowing you to both quickly pick up on the tool as well as implement it - though also limits its functions. Maya's materials seem to take the other side - they're complex and confusing to set up properlly as well as they didn't seem to allow much in the form of textures (ie. diffuse and bump map were the main, whereas 3Ds supports a lot of different texture maps). Animation is relatively simple again, and Maya's particle system . . . well, owns! It's really good in other words Now for 3Ds. 3ds' interface suits me to a T. Everything is where I expect it and it allows me to find a wide range of new functionality with ease. 3Ds' tools are wide in variety and powerful - from my experience more so than Maya's (with exceptions of NURMs - which I havn't tried in 3ds though have heard are hard). 3ds goes a little over board with some aspects of the interface - to many ways to do one thing. On my version of 3ds (version 6, which I have a pulg-in to get bring back the tab menu in the earlier versions) I can create scene objects etc. 3 different ways! What's the point Also, there seems sometimes to be to much control over things. While it proves to be very useful in some occations - learning what the hell everything does gets teadious. Though, that isn't too much of an issue. I also find that 3ds way of doing effects is more to my likings. While Maya's is quicker and simpler to produce a high quality effect - it also does to much by itself. 3ds has things set up in the way the work. Which for me, makes things better to control and make more sense - but that's just me. 3DS' pipeline is very linear. Low poly is fast, and the higher you get the slower it gets as to be expected - though the point is low poly models run extremely well in comparison to Maya on lower end PCs. At that token, 3ds' pipeline has gotten cluttered over the years of upgrades and needs a re-build. However, at the same token it's has very high capabilities - as so many plug-ins prove. If you have a look at some of the plugins available (After Burner for example). The downside of this is simple - these plugins cost money! Bloody annoying considering you've forked out 3000 odd dolars for the program. I prefer the material editor in 3ds, easier control, more accesible and more functions. And if you're into games as of late - 3ds6 and on allows viewport game shaders allowing you to test your game graphics in 3ds without having to export to the game engine (and for any game creator, this is extremely useful so you dont have to try and port to a half created, buggy engine). Now, I use 3ds Max - so there is some bias in my statement above. But the end fact is the same. They're both fantastic programs with the only real limitation being the user. Maya, as of late, has had great publicity from Pixar who had an agreement with them. And was also used in the creation of the Episode II's pre-renders before ILM used their own software to do the final animation, mainly due to its inbuilt particle system. My personal choice is still 3ds Max though.

OOC: That's all good mate. I'll let you take the first steps for the goodbye posts. Jess is around, just doesn't get much time online from what I understand. I'll also be out of the loop for a few weeks while Uni finishes up for the year

Nice work Tofu, I hadn't even noticed your climb in the ranks of posting Next time I try to hit the high note while singing the Trogdor theme song like Strong Bad, I'll think of you Troooogdorrr!!!!!!

Bad luck mate. Got any pictures of the event and runner's up?

Well, for me it really depends on what's happening in RL. Normally I try to visit at least once a day to see what's happening (especially if there's some model request or RR thing to do), though have really started to limit myself to posting once, maybe twice a week,. If I'm board I visit much more often. Lately, with RL taking all my time I get once or twice a week to look and maybe one post.

Woow . . . that was impressive - and funny. I hope they get the sequel soon Loved the teady in the end I'd like a look through the Rebel's eyes as well SM, I'd also have liked a smaller version of the clip. I've got ADSL, but 200mb still takes a while to download

OOC: Did you read my last post? And that was only a week ago. I've already more or less rapped it up. I figured we could have one or two last posts each to tie up any loose ends and say our goodbyes.

What do you think if I made a site called...
Krytos replied to Evaders99's topic in Outside Interests
Chinqoo? Well, first I'd spend 5-10 minutes trying to figure out how to pronounce it and then give up . . . then wonder what it is. Which brings me to my question: What's the site about/for and what's the target audiance? -
It's the drug of . . . . nope, aint got nothing Can't remember how the engines came out in game - without the game engine supporting self-illumination textures (generally a gray scale textures that "lights" up sections of the texture irrelavent to scene lighting), there's little that can be done. This is a problem I've had with most models and I might experiement to see how to fix it. The original models had the engines on the surface of the ship and not in actual engine shaped objects which might be casting a shadow or equivalent. The model comes up pretty well - though there are a few clipping problems in different areas. When I "re-release" the model, I think I'll make it phisically larger in game to help with the problems. When I had it in the game not properlly scalled, I didn't notice any problems with glitches (re-enforcing my belief about the engines small z-buffer). But is too big for the actual game

OOC: Ok, my characters can't really close this thread properlly - soemeone in command needs to pull us out or something. But, I've started the path so to speak IC: (1138) 1138 turned to face the jedi. His armour was blackened in some areas where it got burnt from stray blaster bolts, and his arm had been injurred - though it was all superficial. "I'm fine, sir . . . ah, ma'am. I saw A-23 heading towards the cave entrance with the bulk of the soldiers. They appeared to be chasing after the retreating droids." The jedi then left in search of A-23. 1138 sighed to himself, and then continued searching through the battle field to make sure all droids were really destroyed. IC: (3099) Groggy, 3099 opened his eyes. He could tell his helmet was no longer on, and that sections of his armour had been removed to get to his injurries. He couldn't feel the pain that he should have, as he'd obviously been given medication to dull it. He quickly sat up, only to find a medical droid trying to push him back down. In a gruff voice 3099 spoke,"I'm fine, go find someone who needs help." 3099 continued to get up and went in search of the command structure. He soon found a long range communication system, and without his own comm unit he figured it would be able to be used to reach A-23 or the commanding Jedi. Picking up the comm link, 3099 went to speak though was cut off by another voice. "Come in. General Si'Dant. We are calling for an imediate retreat off world. General do you copy?" 3099 paused for a moment to re-listen to the message incase something else was sent. I can't use this system without tying up the line - looks like I'll find the General the old fasion way. **** It didn't take 3099 too long to find General Si'Dant. Whne he reached her, he quickly informed of the message. "So what are we to do ma'am?"

Can someget get me a SWG screenshot? or large SW starfield?
Krytos replied to ElevenThirtyOne's topic in General Discussion
Whoops, forgot about this thrad ever since I got into that debat Tried your tutorial Mad, it coems out with practically the same thing as the video post version (however video post allows proper animations, like turning a camera and having the star field not turn - so it's not a billboard) But, that's by the by. I wanted to use the video post and have a glow around each star for the coouring but asn't able to get it to work well at all. So here's a bluer version: Uncompressed http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/222/starfield027ur.th.jpg Compressed - which adds a sort of glow effect, good 'ol jpeg compression http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/2699/starfield025oy.th.jpg And a re-render of the original: http://img307.imageshack.us/img307/3816/starfieldvideopost7sm.th.jpg EDIT: Figured out how to do the glowing - not looking too hot though. Got any rough pictures I can use for refrence? http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/6073/starfieldvideopost025vs.th.jpg -
Glad you liked it And it's available for download already so go have some fun! I think, I'll be calling it quits for the time being with modelling. I've got to get through something for RR and that'll be it until I finish Uni for the year - with exceptions of my usual experiments

Ah, that's not entirelly correct Igor. Yes the Vong attacked Zonama Sekot, and yes that fleet left quickly - but that was because they were defeated in battle. That's why the Vong who knew about Zonama (that being Shimmra and some others at the time) were so affraid of the planet. And they didn't stop at Zonama - Zonama was the reason why the Vong were far more catious, it's why they took their time in invading the galaxy as they knew that they could be easily defeated and didn't know the galaxies capabilites. The series mentions on many occations of spies being planted in the galaxy over the 50 years that they had been waiting. In the second novel of the NJO series Coran and Ganner head to that planet (forget it's name) where an archioligical dig had found the skeletal remains of a Vong that had been in the galaxy for a very long time spying. And as mentioned in other novels, he wasn't the only one. I dont see how that would have alerted Palpatine to an unkown enemy. The Vong would have struck quickly and the patrol wouldn't have known what was happening - like in Vector Prime with Kyp's Dozen not realising until it was too late that the asteroids were fighters. The Republic forces wouldn't have had the chance to send out a message before being destroyed. And all that would have done was alert the Republic to an aggressor - pirate activity and with the rescent fighting at Naboo with the Trade Federation being let off there'd be a lot of anger and a lot of people to blame. And the force wouldn't help much if at all as the Vong can't be felt through the force and that during the NJO peroid, characters like Luke rarely got visions of the future regaurding the Vong. As for This is wrong as well. The Vong do take prisoners, torture them for information and then sacrfice them. Though, a lot of the time they do skip the trying to gain information - but not the torture. But, look at Vergere and Elegos who, in one way or another, were in effect taken prison and used to learn about the galaxy. Same went for Tahri who was also used as an experiment. There are other moments in the series where this happens - Danni Quee and to the end of the series a host of NR officers like Cracken and the Rogue squadron guy who's name I can't recall By the time the Vong entered the galaxy they knew a lot about the military of the galaxy, but they had a short falling with the culture of the galaxy as well as other small details which would have been useful against the NR. During their initial attack, no. Though as I mentioned there were spies in the galaxy since their first incurssion and would have known about the super weapons of the Empire - assuming the Rebellion was defeated, some weapons wouldn't have been known about like the Sun Crusher and Sovereign. However, I'm not sure if all the newer super weapons would have been created if the Rebellion had been defeated. And the Clone War would have been a good war to watch an learn about weapons and strategies used by the galaxy they were going to invade. Don't forget that the original Supreme Overlord didn't want to attack this galaxy due to Zonama - Shimmra did, and used it to gain support through the ranks on the Vong. Their religion was blinding, but it was also part of why they were so sucessful - it gave them purpose, a reason to die fighting, to fight harder as well as other quirks that gave them advantages in battle. Liking pain doesn't seem like it would be an annoyance. Completely loathing your enemy as well, so you wont give them an inch etc. It resembles some real-world religions/societies over the times. I wont mention them, because it will probably lead to a flame war But in the end, this would be the major flaw to their society that would be their undoing. Well, we all know how well turbolasers work againt fighters - Death Star or Star Destroyer anyone While I think the novels kind of over react with the turbolaser thing most of the time, they can't replace laser cannons in anti-fighter warefare - hence the Lancer Frigate. Besides, that was one tactic that came to mind - for all we know they could take it to an new level and make some worldship into a massive battle station like they thought it was in Edge of Victory II. Well, that's what happened with the NR - rolling through the Outer Rim, but it hardly made them more cocky. The biggest disadvantage of the Vong's religion was that they believed everyone else was bellow them. Which proved fatal at Ithor. However, after this one mistake they were still infidels - but they weren't underestimated. I guess you didn't like the Vong No, the Remnant were confident in defeating them because that's apparently a characteristic of the Empire - that they believe they can defeat all and usually fail trying. Well, that's at least what 90% of the EU novels show - something I've disliked for a long time. Anywho, the only Imperial's view I'd believe are those who were in the fighting line when they actually engaged the Vong or Palleon. And Palleon hardly considered them a push over most of the time, especially after fighting them.
