Lovely. And now for a joke that's surely been made somewhere before... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/RiesstiuIV/Krempel/lackofface.jpg

I think the_mask got you just fine. First, you need to know that all text (and all pics, sounds, and models, et cetera) of Rebellion is stored within .dll files. Secondly, you need to know RebEd has its limitations (as you've no doubt found out) to change these dlls. It is, for example, not able to change the length of any text. If you'd replace Ackbar's name with A in RebEd, the result would be A and five spaces in Rebellion, because the length of the string wasn't changed. For the same reason, you can't type names or encyclopedia texts longer than the original. Another thing it can't do is change the rank names of characters. Even if you change "Villar" into "Tarkin", there still is a dll entry with "General Villar". Now to change this, you need Resource Hacker. This baby is able to give you a look right into the dlls. There you can change texts to (almost) any desired length, adjust how the ranks affect names, and do more stuff way beyond RebEd. and to find your way inside the dlls, the dll contents file will point you in the right direction. Just be sure to keep a copy of the original dlls around...

You rise in rank by hitting certain marks with your postcount. The more you post, the higher your rank. Just please don't spam only to get promoted. Spam should serve no purpose than Spam itself. Huh? No, I didn't say anything.

If I play Rebels against the AI, I like to have interesting fleets rather than efficient ones. Much like the fleet that launched the attack on Endor. Usually one or two MonCal cruisers (wing type) at the core, Corellian Corvettes, 1-2 frigates and Gunboats, maybe an Assault Frigate here or there. And a handful of fleets with one Home One type cruiser at the core of the taskforce. As the Empire, I like fleets much like the ones of Grand Moff Conway, but with 1-2 ISDs at the core and 2-4 VSDs. And the smaller TFs of 2 Strike Cruisers, 1-2 strike cariers and 2-4 Lancers. Then I'll have some SSDs, each forming the core of a group of 5-10 destroyers of different classes.

Jedi Knight? Isn't that just remixed OT score? If you want to just listen to it I think a normal CD player will do. (Or you could follow Mask and solve the problem the smarter, non-lazy way. )

Does anyone remember GTA2? That's the last one I played. After that, the series lost much of its over-the-top ridiculousness. Sure, you got graphix in GTA3+, but have you got mad scientists? Or Elvis Clan people? Or even Electro guns? No. When they return to that cartoony madness I'll be interested in GTA again.

"I'm only an elected official, I can't make decisions by myself!" - the Mayor, Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas And if we're turning towards Star Wars... "Lord Vader, the fleet has moved out of lightspeed and we're preparing to --ACK!" - Admiral Ozzel "Imperial troops have entered the base! Imperial troops have entered--" - unnamed Echo Base officer "I want my lamp back. I'm gonna need it to get out of this slimy mudhole." "Mudhole? Slimy? My home this is!" -Luke and Yoda "I am wondering, why are you here?" "I'm looking for someone." "Looking? Found someone, you have, I would say, hmmm?" "Right..." "Help you I can. Yes, mmmm." "I don't think so. I'm looking for a great warrior." "Ohhh. Great warrior. Wars not make one great." - Yoda and Luke

A program whose primary function is to take screenshots when the normal Print Screen function isn't good enough. There are many of these around. Hmm, that 'Dude' seemed vaguely familiar...

What song are you listening to?

Yôko Kanno - Tank! -
Something completely unrelated and utterly senseless: Frog: This is the stairway to heaven. You know that, don't you? Spike Spiegel (rather stoned): Obnoxious little frog. -- Cowboy Bebop

Ooh, very nice! Halo Soundtrack - Covenant Dance (Clones from hungay? We're doomed!) -
I sense much Spam in you. Spam is the path to the dark side. Spam leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

Had Test Game #2 yesterday... a worst-case scenario (finding out what the Klingon AI builds if I give him all the time and resources he needs). Well, after a few thousand days I encountered Romulan Birds of Prey. Loads of them. 30 of them over Kronos alone. And while their weak shields made each one individually very vulnerable (I attacked with superior ships, Excelsior IIs, Ulysses' and Soyuz'), their Plasma Torps (giving those BoPs one of the highest Torpedo firepowers in the TC) killed me. I need to reduce their rate of fire(but, actually, each individual torp salvo could be stronger). So this is a problem. I wanted to have the Klingon AI build mostly Klingon ships. They build B'rels, which is good, but they're not using D7s and K'Tingas, as should be typical for them, which is bad. How do I make the AI like D7s? Apart from that, most ships act too much alike in combat. Sure, they have different firepowers and shield strengths, but that's about all. I've had some thoughts aleady; like making the Rom BoP a bombardment ship, removing torpedo firepower from smaller ships and make them more anti-fighter (only real anti-fighter platform being the Soyuz) and have some cruisers that are good for little but ship-to-ship combat. Come to think of it, Federation vessels are rarely specialized. If I focus this change on the Klingons, I might get a different gameplay for either side (<--desirable). That'll be my next objective (yeah, apart from replacement of graphics and texts).

The second thing I wrote was a sketch from Flying Circus. I could have gone and quote Holy Grail, but it's been done so many times before.

SW ships won't have a hard time outshielding B5 ships, since most of the latter have NO energy shields, IIRC. B5 defense systems consist mainly of ECM (extremely efficient in case of Minbari), thick armor and interceptor cannons (esp. on Earth ships). My guess (completely unfounded, I must say) would be that the concentrated firepower of an Omega destroyer equals that of a Galaxy class ship or something, but lacking shields and FTL maneuverability, it couldn't keep up with one. as for ST ships being ridiculously low-powered: Blame it on the writers. In early ST a Constitution class vessel was said to be able to lay waste to a planet, while TNG ships would be happy to be able to kill as much as a city (because of ridiculous random numbers for energy output etc).

I'd love to contribute as a card-maker or conceptual artist if I can find the time. Remember that's a big IF. Every spare minute I have I need to relax and to prepare for the next day of snow, wind and uni. And, honestly, most of the time I can't find the patience to do something not completely useless. I'll go find that T-65R pic if you still need it. Not much work to be done there. EDIT: There. After my next test on monday I'll go finish the other bmps that go with this.

No, but it isn't too far off from reality, is it? -
