  1. "Einstein would turn in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded" "Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Universe which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. God has not been proven not to exist, therefore he must exist." "As distances vanish and the people can flow freely from place to place, society will cross a psychological specific heat boundary and enter a new state. No longer a solid or liquid, we have become as a vapor and will expand to fill all available space. And like a gas, we shall not be easily contained." from Sid Meier's great game Alpha Centauri
  2. Is it a laser-teddy bear? But I must say I didn't like the Yoda fights, either. Apart from the fact that I didn't want to see Yoda fight at all, all the jumping was to much. Yoda shouldn't have needed to fight to show his power. It would have been a lot better if he'd just avoided or deflected every attack thrown at him (well, only if he wasn't scheduled for a large fight, of course. More than one or two scenes of this would become annoying). Surely, in his 900 years of training Jedi, the wisdom of Wars not make one great must have come to him earlier. Now the scene where he slams Palpatine's guards against the wall with barely a movement at all, that was great.
  3. http://img299.echo.cx/img299/3238/needa9yh.png Needa, already blue-backed and in Rebellion strat color palette. Anything else?
  4. Hello, everyone. The SWR folks probably know me already. A question: What about the Ep. III ships? I found the Republic cruisers introduced in RotS quite pretty, and since the Acclamators are in, it would be a shame not to see them make it into the game.

  6. I direct your attention to the officer Vader talks to before he proceeds to his personal fighter. Excuse me if I misunderstand the situation, but I believe that man to be one of Vader's later wingmen. Does he look like Jango? Like all other people from the OT, of course he doesn't. He may only be one of a special few, hand-picked by Vader or Tarkin; he may only be the exception to the rule, but he is there. If he is a pilot, and if he is the exception to the rule of clones making up the Empire's pilot corps, he is even more important, for he would illustrate the superiority of regular folks over the prequel Jango-spam. If he is a pilot, and a clone, he is one of those examples of better gene material being used for specific tasks, like we suspected to exist in connection with the Stormtroopers. Also note that many of the brave Rebel pilots who died did so because they faced Lord Vader as an opponent, in a high-speed race along a track where they couldn't maneuver nor fight back. This is hardly a testament to the power of the standard TIE/ln. I will agree though that the game TIE is grossly underpowered and fighters like X-Wings are usually too strong. Why is that so? Because you normally play the good guys, and you normaly want to survive doing so. I can accept the TIE as a non-shielded short range interceptor, his major asset being his high speed and maneuverability (which can also make it hard to control, as many a poor pilot in asteroid fields or the bowels of an unfinished battle station has illustrated). I will not agree with the games and some of the EU that an X-Wing's shields will give it protection against a full barrage of green laser fire long enough for the X-Wing pilot to notice, turn, place the enemy in his crosshairs, finish lunch, and pull the trigger. Such gross underpowerment of the TIE is a direct contradiction of the movies. EU commentary below. Read, or read not, but I feel I have to write it. Note that, of all the EU, I accept the X-Wing novels as some of the best and believable... in terms of starfights, at least. X-Wings DIE. They don't gradually lose their shields and think 'oh my, I really should put more power to the deflectors so I can go on pondering about the horrors of this war while I blast another squad of eyeballs'. They get struck by laser a few times, and it's over. Those that survive are the best of the best of the best the Rebellion/New Republic, with its numerous supporting worlds, have to offer, and they survive because of their experience and skill.. and luck. Comics, on the other hand, I mostly don't even bother to read. There are better ones out there that don't have to try to hide their inferiority by writing STAR WARS!!!1 across their cover.

  8. Good ol' Winamp (well, actually the new one)
  9. Also, with RebEd, you can alter the shipyards' production capability (there is a number indicating how many days the shipyard needs to build 1 refined material worth of starship). This way, the ships' cost stays the same. Be aware that this makes your enemy build faster, too.
  10. I'd like to mention the occasions in the Simpsons whan there's a cut to Montgomery Burns' office and the Imperial March plays. And of course the scene from Dexter's Lab: Dexter's Father: "Dexter, I am your father!" Dexter: "Nooo! No, this cannot be! ... Oh wait, yes, you're right."
  11. Well done, Master J, but a dark projection of herself she must be, for she has no reflection on the ground! As for the sabers... they're easy (I took the liberty of retouching your pic back to saberless state): 1/ On a separate layer, draw a white line of appropriate thickness PIC 2/ Create another layer, screen or linear dodge blending mode, and draw a thicker, colored line. PIC 3/ Apply Gaussian Blur to the layer (about 4 pixels radius looked good on this pic). PIC Done.
  12. That is pretty much what I'm planning, too, although it may not be as soon as next week. I can wait.
  13. Haha! That last page is absolutely hilarious. Great find!
  14. I am alive... mostly watching, not doing much.
  15. That imperial Bouncy Trooper would make an excellent mod unit... Erm... looking good. I'll keep track of the forum..
  16. Hahaha... Just had an interestin thought... Picture this baby ramming the Death Star instead of the Executor...
  17. Mad, I can't see the stuff behind your links. Krytos seems to be correct, it's probably A Gmail thing. La_forge, very interesting site! Don't know much about art professions, though. Jahled... woah. That's one dangerous trooper. (On a critique note, the hair doesn't blend with the background perfectly. Some slight overpainting would correct that, though.)
  18. Woah, wasn't the Executor uber enough?
  19. I think they're neat, but instead of having them appear on cursor height, as it is now, I'd like them to appear invariable below the links; they can get annoying if they obscure the link I wanted to click.
  20. I think we had two threads about this recently... It seems this is a browser issue. Submitting works in IE, but not in Firefox.
  21. Good, good, I'd like to see stuff like that posted in my art thread, but never mind. My thoughts... - You picked a tough picture to work from, because a) it's very bright, and light effects are easier made looking good on dark backgrounds and b) because of the angle, you see most surfaces at a sharp angle, which would call for more perspective on the scorch marks and the like. Try a view from above, and maybe reduce the damage to one big gaping hole in the main hull and some smaller scorch marks. - Look at some pics to get a good idea of how fiery effects should look like. Google "explosion". It's fun. Fire has at least as much orange and yellow as red, depending on color. - Photoshop gives you the chance to work in layers. Use it. Get a layer with Screen or maybe Hard Light over the original and see how the blending mode affects the effects. Gives good transparency. - Keep in mind the scale you're working at. Star Destroyers are HUGE beasts, so the fires should be really small and detailed in comparison and the flames shouldn't go out as far into space. A good thing to to is to paint some dark black scorch marks and the fires along the edges of the marks. (to illustrate, this is an older piece, where I've worked hard on getting the sense of scale across, and it took long enough, too.) A nice scattered brush works very well for fiery particle effects. Anyway..nice work! Samaritan: Where there's a fire, there's smoke... it would spread differently for the lack of air, and there rarely is any fire in space anyway, but smoke would be there.
  22. Note the picture on the right.
  23. Christopher Franke - Babylon 5 - Season 4 Opening
  24. Registered to KoC... This is me link. I'm still looking for something sci-fi-themed, though...
