  1. Me neither. Well, the idea of making the forum invisible came up in the Feedback Forum. It appears that it is now. Well hidden from us...
  2. It might be the thing I encountered with Firefox... JS and DG, did it download incorrectly or not at all?
  3. Helicopter by Bloc Party
  4. My main thought was this: Hoth. Or (long version): The Empire was not able to break through a shield the Rebels erected on a planet with no infrastructure, and so had to rely on troops. They had the Executor, and several Star Destroyers. That's one strong shield for you. In defense of the Imperial fleet, the shield was probably concentrated to cover an area of a few kilometers across only, instead of whole cities. But still. Impressive shielding. Odd thing is, if the Imps could bring landing craft down there, why not fighters and bombers? Surely, a flight of TIE Bombers would have atomized the base within minutes. The answer is obvious, of couse. GL wanted a ground battle, and he got one. But there must be a better explanation around.
  5. I've noticed the cards section are missing an Original Trilogy section. It's part of what makes the Expanded Universe section that big. A place is needed for all those Vaders, Lukes, Boba Fetts, Ackbars, Pietts, etc. I'd also like to access cards by starting letter directly, and sort them by rating and date, rather thna just being able to see the newest / highest rated cards (there are awfully many cards rated 10). Commentary would be good, both from authors and other people. EDIT: One more thing: When I attempted to download a card that had spaces in its name, Firefox saved it to a file with only the first word as name and no extension. Needless to say, RebEd didn't recognize the card until I renamed it to a .rcc
  6. I've thought a lot about just what it was that made me like the prequels less than the originals. The first consideration is obvious, but maybe there's more to it than that. First consideration: Too childish. Yep, obviously. Three words: Jar Jar Binks. Such a character was never around in the originals, the closest was C-3PO, and he had an excellent counterpart in the cynical Han Solo. Jar Jar lacks such a counterpart, making him a clown, nothing more. well, I could take the Gungans. I don't bother about their more-than unlikely victory over the battle droids. But the droids themselves? Who made them the clowns that they are? Is anyone taking battle droids even remotely seriously? The droids were so stupid and non-threatening it made me wonder why they'd even need an army to stop them. And the 3PO-head-switching sequence made me want to slam my head against the nearest wall. And who designed the Neimodians anyway. Then, the atmosphere. Well, that's a part of the above. Everything is colorful, bright, cheery. Silver starships with flowing lines cross the screen instead of bulky warships. None of the dark mood of the known films. And sure, why should there? The Republic is fine, no sign of Emperors, Dark Lords, civil wars and Doomsday Devices. Is the brighter atmosphere bad? No. Is it overdone? I think so. Lucas has lost his touch for the subtle in his CGing madness. Another thing struck me today: The Jedi. In the original trilogy, we ever only saw a handful of jedi. We actively follow two: The Light one and the Dark one. Everyone around Luke (except for his two mentors) were non-Jedi. They were warriors. They were normal people, making Luke stand out more. And while he progresses in his training, and eventually becomes a Jedi Knight, you see him distancing himself from his friends. In RotJ, even after he falied to fall for the dark side, there is something mysterious about him, and he is so much... cooler than the stupid farmboy he used to be. In the prequels, what do we get? Anakin. Obi-Wan. Qui-Gonn. Mace Windu. Etc, etc. We see a whole lot of Jedi. Why, of course. we follow Anakin. He grew up in a Jedi-rich environment. (except for Padme) This is fine. But: The people around him are not only Jedi, but they are also required to fulfill certain roles in the films. They carry jokes, they progress the plot. They are the ones the audience is invited to identify with now. We get a good insight of Obi-Wan's thinking during AotC. And Anakin's, too. The Jedi are no longer distanced. They are no longer mysterious, and so become a lot less fascinating. My thoughts for today. If I made no sense, I blame it on my relative lack of sleep lately. Good night.
  7. I'd much like to see some kind of droid as mascot. A cutyfied version of IMP-22, perhaps?
  8. SOCL and Mad, I believe you are talking different temperature scales here... A quick calculation reveals 35°C to be 95°F (while 35°F would indeed be rather cold...) Confusion gone? And start talking in meters, while you're at it mumble, mumble...
  9. The idea certainly qualifies for making a new card. You'll need quite a handful of .bmps and the required text and can, after putting it all into RebEd, save it all to a card. Modification. Although a mod can in many cases include models. To change the in-game pictures, stats and encyclopedia text, RebEd will suffice. If you want to change the tactical model, though, you'll need 1) the model ready and in the right format 2) the model importer. If you play around with a character's stats, and save in RebEd, it will automatically save to a .rcc character card. Such a card can only be loaded into character slots. The other card types work the same way. That's to keep you from loading, say, character's stats into troop slots, which would be... confusing (and most likely wouldn't work).
  10. http://www.dinochick.com/duel.gif Haha, that one's awesome.
  11. We could always make some of our own. Who's with me? I don't really like the color scheme. Black works well as a background, but blue clashes a bit with aqua, methinks (although I've gotten pretty much used to it now). Perhaps grey instead of blue?
  12. I would (as some can guess) like to see a gallery, maybe also a fanfiction section. Not using Reviews or Journal.
  13. I agree that the Raporan Warriors need more contrast. I'd also add some shadow on the ground and possibly some lighting from the gun firing on the left one. And I'm finding your use of Michael O'Hare in your signature interesting. Who do you use the picture for? EDIT: Argh, ignore the "1" vote in the poll, I misread as 1 being the best. It should be a 5.
  14. Firefox 1.1, no problems except for the blue border around the whole thing, it doesn't show on the right side and is a bit broken.
  15. Google, "Star Wars Rebellion".
  16. I kinda like the news.
  17. That would be very great. I'm here for - the community stuff - the editing stuff - RR News about games are also much appreciated. I'd like to see an area where the SWR modders could update on their mod progress, ask for help, etc; maybe with the possibility to create a subforum for one's mod. I'd like to have an overview of the progress of other people. The RDBII section was nice, but it's a bit ... dead lately, and I've noticed more feedback on my project in the Gaming Stories forum (where I feel a bit wrong talking about a mod). I'd check out a structured RP, too. EDIT: And a chatroom would rock.
  18. As long as you work with Resource Hacker, Size Matters Not. No experience with HexEditors, though.
  19. Don't know if any of you has posted this yet, but THIS contains a huge amount of spoilers and pics. I say it again: Extreme Spoilage.
  20. My money's on Fett, but I voted for Batman because... well, someone had to.
  21. Important to me: - Will there be an experience system? - Will there be any kind of characters? Fleet Captains? Squadron Leaders? Generals? Hero units? (I'd guess no.) - Of course, how modable is the game? Less important: - How much does the environment influence battles? Will fighter squadrons be able to surprise attack from asteroid belts? Will troops be hiding behind rock formations (or in trenches) to avoid enemy fire? - About firepower: Do units (especially small ones) rely more on a large health bar fighting against big ones or on their relative inability to hit? Will a turbolaser blast kill an X-Wing? Will a barrage from an AT-ST kill a rebel trooper in one hit? Stack this with the previous question to learn much about the strategy of this game. - What kind of computer will I have to buy if I want to play? Ah yes, and - Is Dagobah in? If so, why?
  22. His question was on which side of the battlefield the fighters should be ordered to stay. I'd say your side.
  23. Evaders: You should have seen the earlier versions of the pic... Anyway, pic is only half done (optimistically), and lots of what's here now will change.
  24. *mutters magic formula to revive thread* Very nice pics there, Mad! Meanwhile, I've been (and will, for at least another week, be) working on this piece of Homeworld fanart. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/RiesstiuIV/HWKaranWIP6.jpg
  25. Not necessary, if the ability to add ships later on is there. And the final number of ships will depend on how the game plays, I think, which we don't know right now. About 10-15 would be a good start. Also, if you don't want to get into legal trouble with LucasArts, not including anything that points to Star Wars might be wiser. One can always release mods afterwards... Just something to think about...
