  1. thanks luckless! Ignore my character question elsewhere... It sounds like free orion might be a great stepping stone! For those of us who know how to program
  2. does the free orion game allow characters? Just curious. I didn't see any mention of it.
  3. My image of Reb2 is similar to that, where the leader can control at most one sector, with its troops and fleets. Moffs/Senators from other sectors would give you a tithe of $$$ and ships+troops but be responsible for developing/protecting their own sector. AND If they got strong they could challenge you as Emperor/President. You could also assassinate your sector leaders (especially as Emperor), or otherwise try to replace them with your own leader (have influence points and spend them to replace a leader as if there were an election or something). You (and your sector leaders) would get influence points for winning and lose them when you lost. The rub would be that you would also get... say 10%... of the influence points that your sector leaders got for their victories (after all, you are the boss ) You could also buy influence points with left over money. That way, you would only manage your sector, your fleet, and the leaders of your other sectors. The cool thing is that you could start the game as a sector leader (Moff/Senator) if you wanted, and try to topple your boss (or just not get replaces...). You could recruit your own personal generals, admirals, bounty hunters, etc. and use them to rack up victories and eventually assassinate, force an election (if you had enough $$$$+ influence points), or stage a coup. Just an idea... man I wish I could program
  4. Malak probably was sticking his tongue out at Revan.... *bbbzzzzzzzzt!*
  5. now that I have an avatar (thanks cain! and by the way, this was from a movie shot...) I have to say mine is the best. Why? Simple. Because: :D Droids Rule, Fleshies Drool! :D
  6. I had big hopes for MOO3 actually... in MOO2 they introduced the concept of character cards (Rebellion ripoff, you decide ), and I was hoping they'd take another step closer to Rebellion-style character cards in MOO3. As far as I could tell, they didn't. Of course, I admit I got moo3 and never played it once I found out the had removed all of my favorite species Idiots. Can't have a decent galaxy without catpeople in it... Idiots. I actually wouldn't be suprised to see something similar to rebellion come out to be honest. Pokemon and Yu-gi-o (whatever) have really popularized the whole "card" concept. It really gives a personal touch to god-games. Just merge the card concept with something civ-like or moo-like and you're halfway there... Man Lucas, you're missing the boat you could sell sequels and addon packs so freakin' easy...
  7. The Viscount model needs a .rsc card, and a screen capture program would work great for that!
  8. yep... and long long time ago on a newsgroup called alt.games.sw.... whatever there were lots and lots of discussions about what could be done for Rebellion2 There's been excitement about the games potential since it came out. It's the ONLY "big picture" SW game, and even deeply flawed it is compelling. The major criticism by reviewers was execution, not the concept. But I think Lucas Arts got gunshy because they released a lot of buggy carp and were getting a bad rep. Then they tried something new with Force Commander (pretty good game, actually) and got hit with the "TOO BUGGY" complaint again. So they fell back on using other games' engines and churning out sequels that were different on the surface but took few chances in the programming code. So I doubt they'll come down this road any time soon unless someone else releases a game that is practically rebellion 2 except for the art work
  9. hmmmm... freeonion... I mean freeorion might be a possible shortcut, but will it have the character aspect we all love (just look at the thousands of generated character cards here) that is unique to Rebellion? Ok, ok... yeah Orion2 had like 4-6 charcaters you could keep for each side. But we chaff at just having 30 Moo2 & Moo1 were fun... pity Moo3 went in totally the wrong direction. (IMHO)
  10. seriously? If you play multiplayer you can switch sides and the AI will take over? Can you switch back and forth, or just once? If it's just once, I'm not sure how that is different than just starting up a regular game. All though I could be missing something.... again
  11. Lithunwrap 1.3 by Brian Bolthouse (?) reads x files... if you go to his page, he has a new program that you have to pay for, but if you search the net you should be able to find a copy of his old program. It also exports x files, but some have reported problems (like me! ) You can save as .3ds files and convert to x with no problem if you use conv3ds.
  12. Years later, rebellion is still selling for over 20$ on ebay. YES LUCAS, THERE IS A DEMAND! MAKE A SEQUEL!!! *ahem* sorry about that people
  13. you could always buy one from ebay.com... Just a thought
  14. that song was bloody excellent!
  15. I've been curious about how well Rebellion's AI can recognize and adapt to changes we make to the various units. My major concern was that an AI programming shortcut would be to have the computer deal with slots rather than consider the unit's actual attributes so if you change them, the AI acts even stupider than before. I ran a few experiments, with the help of the "traitor" program that (Trej? the Mask?) made in an attempt to enable the player to switch sides. The traitor program doesn't allow you to totally switch sides, but it does allow you to see what the AI has done up to that point. By the way, the AI is really dumb... It lets useful units sit around even before you change anything. So far I've found: The AI handles new character attributes! I was pretty sure it would be able to handle diplomacy, combat, espionage, and jedi ability since the game allows some initial randomness in attributes as well as growth over the game. HOWEVER, I was concerned it would not recognize a research or command capacity in a character that previously would have no chance at doing these things. But the AI is OK here. The AI can use new troop/fighter spots, but seems clueless when it comes time to build I swapped the Galleon and Imperial Carrier troop/fighter stats, then boosted the rest of their stats (especially detection) to see if the AI would build any. No luck... There does seem to be some rough recognition of the value of a ship, because if you reduce the Death Star to 20 construction cost it will build 1 or 2, but I don't think there's much "thought" or analysis of the relative benefit/cost of a ship before the AI decides to build one. Anyone have any insight/experience about this..?
  16. I strongly recommend card-only MODS I've been working on a TC for months that involves 4 models I made myself and ~8 models from other people and have had fits getting the thing to work. It keeps crashing after tactical mode. I'm going to have to go back (again) and install each model individually to see which one is causing problems. Bleah. I've got no time now due to work and illnesses, but someday soon... (PS - beforewarned that cards take awhile to be posted here... )
  17. Assuming there is the disk space for it, I say why not have more detailed character/storyline info. Just add another forum. I can't imagine it taking up THAT much disk space. I would encourage people to use links instead of copying text since that would save disk/reading space and would be more respectful of other author's works. Just my .02$ Sorry about my sporadic absences lately... family illnesses and other concerns. My TC is still buggy, but I have some ship models I'm going to try to get up on the web (and some cards...) so I can give a little back to the group.
  18. Prodigy - Firestarter. Isn't that the one that goes "I am the god of hellfire... and I bring you FIRE!" Old Skol Techno... very cool!
  19. I do like the presentation of our story here. I agree that LucasArts will not come back to the Rebellion concept. Which is a shame. Even more shameful is that they refuse to release the source code for a line they have abandoned when other companies like relic give out the source code to Homeworld, even though they are still making new Homeworlds...
  20. >What are you talking about? Academy is the same either way! It really >makes very little difference! There are some differences in cut scenes, and the end is different (as te dark side you fight everybody... much fun). >KOTOR is highly replayable! Did you get every quest perfect the first >time round? Pretty much. I didn't complete the assassin quests, but that's because the game kicked in and started destroying planets. I also didn't complete one task because the Wookies started revolting... >Don't you want those extra force skills? Don't you want to try it with >horror and lightning and all the funky dark side powers. I balanced my character with both light and dark, and you get to experience the other powers with your other characters (I had a lvl 2 soldier, lvl 18 jedi... forget which type. I just never level'd up unless I had to before becoming a jedi. I'm a Baldur's Gate vet ) >They tried to balance it with cortosis. And it worked. I dunno... they could have made opponents better fighters, better armored, or more numerous instead. Or at the very least, EXPLAIN why there was so much cortosis, and what happened to it... I was left thinking "well, maybe in 4000 years the Jedi confiscated it all..?" >The game is just a glorified Star Wars version of D&D, so of course it'll >play like a boardgame, that's what it is! My reflexes are not great, so I admit I appreciated not having to rely on them. However, fights could get to be a little dull as a result... >I loved it. I would go and play it now, except i'm at work and my Xbox >is back in my room I am happy I bought it, and enjoyed it the one time I played it. But I don't see myself going back to it for another month or so... It was definately not in my list of top 3 SW games.
  21. I forget who came up with the Pazak name, but I'll take the blame Yeah yeah, blame it on the droid Seriously, no reference to that crappy SW blackjack game was intended. Consider it part of the reason he joined the Empire. Would you want to be name after that game? He clearly was looking to get his revenge on the uncaring universe
  22. I personally like those space pontoons. Spaaaaace Pontoons. I saw the Han Solo pic. It looks similar to one they used, but it has too much glare/white in it.
  23. Actually, what I'd love to see in rebellion 2 (this would have to be lucas arts, I'd think, because it would be a whole new game) is.... the ability to play an individual character. You could be a smuggler, and buy your ship, run cargo, fight pirates/police (yes, I loved freelander). You could be a pilot/SpecOps and get sent on different missions while watching the war progress via the main screen as the AIs battle it out. You could be a General/Admiral and control your own force. You would be given commands by your leader and try to carry them out. You could have a private force on the side or ships, thugs, or spies. You could be a pirate and set up your own secret base, etc. Maybe you could go legit and buy a planet. You could be a Senator/Moff and control your sector, as well as skimming off the top to fund your own secret base, thugs, ships. If you were doing well, you could challenge the leader (either via vote or coup d'etat). And of course, you could be the leader and play like we always play. It would have huge online potential. And of course, when I saw Galaxies come out... I knew my vision would never come to be I just hope Galaxies gets closer to it.
  24. The cortorsis weapons, armor, everything really cheesed me off. They just didn't want to try to model your lightsaber ripping opponent's swords in half. The combat system is.... clunky compared to Jedi Academy. It plays much more like a board game than a video game in this respect (some may like that... I had mixed feelings) I found the energy shields to be useless. Shooting down starfighters is just a pain... no fun there. A friend even got a cheat so he didn't have to do it (he also gave his character base 20 everything.... I guess he really likes to win big). The most fun is the story line and the new creatures. Lots of new fishies in the sea So it has the replayability of -eh-. You know now the plot twist, and you've met all the fun fishies... Anyone play as a dark jedi? I didn't have the heart the first time, and am curious what it's like. Academy is FUN as a dark jedi, in case anyone hasn't tried that yet.
  25. We should save it to illustrate that SOME good decisions were actually made. As you can tell, I really really like that ship. It's like someone said, "Hey! We've got ships that look like fishes... how about birds!?" Then someone else said, "Yeah! Like a Dodo bird! Those are cool!" Creativity. Don't let it happen to you. (I joke. I joke, cause I love. Feel the love. That'll be 49.99. Thank you.)
