Jalmar... go for it, but don't be afraid to just give us what you end up with, because that is a DAUNTING task you're suggesting. Maybe someone can finish what you began. Fortunately, there are some cards already on this site you could use (evidently someone started at some point...) However the biggest obstacle would be the tactical models. My first goal would be to make a TC where you change the character, ship, fighter, troops and spec ops cards. Then balance it, and then suggest to people they play without the tactical mode. That in itself would be wonderful. By the way, I've got a Danni Quee card as well as several Chiss cards coming in my TC "Thrawn's Betrayal - Awakening the Chiss." I didn't bother using NJO Chiss names, but feel free to change my cards, I don't care My second goal would be to try to model the tactical ships... you'll have to do several, but fortunately the textures could all be a cream color... I suggest using Milkshape, it is the most newbie friendly 3d modeling program I'VE found. LithUnrap is free but difficult. Be forewarned you'll only be able to use Milkshape for free for a month. Mine's expired

Nope. REb2 people may include it, but they're awwwwwfully quiet over there. Popular request tho... here's hoping it's possible given they don't have the source code You'd think Lucas Arts would release a new version given the interest in this kinda a thing... or at least release the source code so we could make something of it

TK, you raise an interesting dilemna and I must bow to the wisdow of our ancient forefathers who are the source of much of our law and ethics. What Would Solomon Do? TK - You must turn of 1 and give the other 2 to me. It has been written it shall be done

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - The Television Series
Chimera replied to Texas_Fett's topic in General Discussion
You want to know the TRUE power of Vader? That the actors playing young skywalker in Episode I and II did not kill off interest in him. THAT is power I'd rather see episodes 7-9 than more Vader. But believe me, I'd love to watch the TV show. Especially if they also focus on how the Republic falls. I love the Graphic Novels about that. -
ditto... and I NEED that chiss tie and missle boat for my TC!
-
Perhaps you could give more of the backstory for the Protectorate? I'm not getting the alternate dimensions thing (haven't played it because working on TC of my own.) If you mean you have an alternative time track (IE Luke joins dark side) I think that's not uncommon. If you have Star Trek invading the Star Wars universe... yeah, that might ruffle feathers for reasons too complicated to get into with out a good lager or two. But hey... many enjoy a good Star Wars/Trek mix. s'all cool man... s'all cool.

My ways: 1) Only take one sector until turn 1000. 2) Play on something other than "very slow..." 3) Halve all construction costs for the other side 4) increase their diplomatic capacity 5) decrease their research/unit 6) Tequila. Lots and lots of tequila. 7) Give them a few uber units/ships if playing rebels, make the cost of a death star 20 9) if playing empire, only use troops, no diplomacy 10) Turn off the moniter

That'd be great ivo. It'd fit with the XvT games. Dunno how I'd implement it as a programmer... the AI is weak as it is. But if it could be done, that'd be fabulous. I think it'd be easier to just use morale and avoid the diplomacy aspect. Less realistic but easier for gamer and AI.

Polycount.... hmmm. Where would I find that info? (There are no actual parrots in the models. I swear. Not even any pinin' for the Fjords.) I'll give it a try tho'! I have Lith... unfortunately, my Milkshape (which was easier for me) expired. Graphics programs... well... I got paint or whatever comes with Windows XP these days BTW the 3rd one is "The Anakha-Class Ion Frigate is a product of the imaginative engineers from Correlia, and recently put into production by the New Republic. These are frontline heavy assault frigates designed with new top-of-the-line ion cannons to diable an opponents shields and electrical systems. Just recently put into production, these frigates have yet to be tested." A card submitted by Eville Jedi/(mod. by NemesiS) http://www.swrebellion.com/modules.php?name=Cards&loc=advanced&rebel=on&imperial=on&category=Expanded%20Universe&rsc=on I just love the idea of a Ion specific ship that is weak almost everywhere else. It's a fun strategic concept, IMHO. In my TC I'm building, I make it a chiss ship.

The answer is simple: Luke is the traitor. He became one with the Dark Side. Who else kills a million people sitting inconcently on a Moon-shaped Space Station. Lousy Sith-spawn
-
Yes, you are wrong. Sorry, that was too tempting It's just so much FUN to put a little flavor into the game. Get rid of some of the stiffs and some of the "Who is this bit player/ship and why did he make the final cut?" and put in some characters with punch. I mean, you only get 32, so make 'em count! If I wanted faceless joes I can churn out special ops. Also, I want more jedi! That's a key part that gets short-changed IMHO.

Your Ultimate Rebellion Strategy!
Chimera replied to GeorgeLucasmustdie's topic in General Discussion
My tendencies run toward the rebellion style of play. Which is unfortunate, 'cause I love those shiny triangles the Empire gets. I sneak around, blow stuff up, cause chaos, and watch the dominos fall as all of the planets come to me. Then I desperately put all my resources into shielding my planets before the Empire can nuke me back to the stone age. I don't bother with fleets until I am close to Interdictor technology. What's the point of watching everyone run away? Again... and again... Bleh. I tries upping the tractor beam strength with Rebed, and it works sometimes (you snag a ship) but not others. Dunno why... -
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - The Television Series
Chimera replied to Texas_Fett's topic in General Discussion
I agree, it'd have a cartoon version. Otherwise the special effects would probably suck which would drag the whole thing down. But I'd be for it, if Lucas wasn't Directing. He couldn't make a love story worthy of a porno And he would HAVE to stick in some attempt at a cute kid-friendly creature. I can see it now... Rogue Squadron in: The Trouble with Tribbles. Will Wedge ever get the Tribbles out of his exhaust system? And will the Princess Unamba forget her troubled past in his arms? Ugh. -
Finally! After mooching all the 1337 cards I could find...
Chimera replied to Texas_Fett's topic in RebED Cards
Thanks for the reply! I'll try to find the credit. Now that I think of it, the nightcrawler/nocturne credit is easy... Marvel Comics. The Chiss art looked stolen to be honest... There was no artist credit, but I'll try. At least I can cite the original theives -
Just curious... I've had lots of thoughts what they COULD do. My favorite is to have it port out to other SW games (XvTie, Jedi Academy, etc) so you can do missions, etc. in an action environment. Of course, that's a programming nightmare. I've also wished that you could play any character, not just the All Seeing Gods-eye ruler, and that characters (like Moffs and Admirals) were "active" in that they steal, have private fleets, try to topple the leader every once in awhile. Also a programming nightmare. So if you had to pick 5 REALISTIC changes, what would they be? My main desires for Reb2: 1) Basically if there is ANYWAY to fix the AI, please! I now create two different TCs when I play... and tilt the balance against myself. I'd play online, but I have a poor conneciton and chaotic schedule. 2) If there were actually more empires/"active" independent planets (like MOO) that'd be an incredible boost to the game's realism. It makes no sense that these worlds are dead, with no troops, no fleets, etc. 3) Also, Shouldn't the Empire control... I dunno, at least half of the core at the beginning? An editor that allowed us to customize the ebginning world ownership and attributes would be ideal and may actually be easier for you! 4) Ability to seize ships + ship-to-ship combat. 5) And of course, more character cards, ships, fighters, etc. THANKS! (PS - If I had to add one more: Change espionage to be an ongoing mission. I personally get rid of the "espionage" special forces, because there's no way to have them continue without a clickfest. If you could make their mission more like the diplomat or research (perpetually ongoing) that'd help with the interface. Or just remove the special forces altogether (I use expensive Bounty Hunters with Norghi Abilities for the Rebellion and expensive Reborn characters with ~100 combat ability for the Empire)). But now I'm cheating against my own rules

I forgot to mention... The working title is "Thrawn's Betrayal" But I'm open to other ideas...
-
I've been working on one for a few months but assumed no one would be interested... The basic idea is: Luke turned to the Dark Side, the second Death Star is completed, and Mon Mothra is dead. Thrawn discovers the Emporer's next plan for total domination is to conquer the last great empire: The Chiss. He returns to his home and begs forgiveness (he was exiled before) in return for Imperial technology and the information that the Empire is planning to attack. The Chiss agree to forgive Thrawn, and reach out to the remaining Rebels (Leia, Han, Chewy, and some others). Can Leia defeat the Emporer? Can Kyp Durron do it if she fails? Will the rogue jedi master (Sylvar) who returns from self-imposed exile stay long enough to train a new jedi knight or will her poor loyalty to the jedi cause her to fail again? What I did was: -Made 3 new models (Clone War Cruiser, Old Republic Diplomat Cruiser, and the Anakhan Ion Frigate which becomes a Chiss invention). -Made ~10 new cards of Chiss characters. Some are beautiful... stolen art, but beautiful nonetheless -Imported lots of existing cards and models from this wonderful website. There are now lots more Dark Jedi and Light Jedi to make things... dynamic. The Empire also has lots more toys. -Because Thrawn stole the technology, now the Rebellion can build ISDs, VSDs etc. (but not later ships) -Troops are also more distinct in their capacities so a mix is good. 3 new troop classes for both sides if I recall. -I try to keep in mind the essential balance... The rebellion has better diplomats while the Empire (with Palpatine on Coruscant) has better leaders. Now there's also the factor that the Empire's Jedi are better trained (but are they loyal and do the Rebellion Jedi have more potential?). -Using someone else's idea, I made Death Stars cheap so the darn AI will BUILD THEM. -ELIMINATED espionage units. Pet peave... I spend all my time renewing their missions Now there are two expensive units for both sides. The empire has reborn jedi (just infiltrators with a higher combat (~100) capacity.) The rebellion has bounty hunters with the assassignation option. Problems: -Thrawn now has Mon Mothra's voice! -Likewise, Leia is sometimes referred to as Luke, and has his voice. -Kyp is now referred to as Leia... darn audio files! -My model textures are... bland at best. At least they're close to the right size! -I gave the empire Assault gunboats because Tie bombers were useless. I gave the Rebellion clawcraft over A-wings... but I couldn't change the original models So people want me to try to get this thing online?

Excellent Idea!!! Also, it'd make the fact that the game CAME with fleet troops make sense. After all, when did we ever see those fleet guys with the goofy helmets attacking armies? It's also make my Ion Frigate model much more desirable
-
I've got 3 new models without decent textures. Should I upload them to the site on the hope that some texturing/skinning wizard could jazz them up? They are: 1) the Old Republic Diplomat Cruiser you see all over the comic books (and briefly in E1). Right now it's Blood Red 2) A Clone War Cruiser (ok ok... I stole a VSD, shrunk it, and slapped a big triangle on the back. ) 3) An Anahkan (spelling?) Ion Frigate. I just like the idea of a cheap late game warship with a punch but balanced by weak shielding and armor.

Never got the warlords TC to work. Some weird error message in French. And it wasn't Oh-La-La!

I was one of the people agitating for a Reb2 way back in the day after Reb1 was released. I heard Lucas Arts was so disappointed with their attempt at strategy games they would never return to it. Aaargh! Then there was force commander... the final nail But I've often dreamed of winning the lotto, getting a bunch of programers together, making a great Reb2 and sending it to Lucas. Of course he'd get down on his knees, worhip my insight, and beg to release it. ANYWAY.... thank you so much! I'd send you money, if it wasn't illegal (is it?) (I had listed ideas here, but here's not the place. Oops!) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Finally! After mooching all the 1337 cards I could find...
Chimera replied to Texas_Fett's topic in RebED Cards
I have ~10 new cards I've made, all Chiss. The thing is, I 'aquired' the artwork from elsewhere on the net (a chiss fansite with some amazing art, and nightcrawler/nocturne fan sites). Will people care if I stole the stuff? I'm not trying to take credit, make money, etc. I wish I had all the info about who the artist was, but the info either wasn't there or I didn't think of it at the time because I didn't think I could do it well enough to share. Just curious...
