Who was in the cave : Vader vs Luke or Luke vs Luke ?
Chimera replied to Cain's topic in General Discussion
In the original movie, yes. The helmet splits like a big ol' egg and out pops Lukes head. I'm suggesting in the Mangal dimension he has a different vision because he doesn't take his lightsaber inside the cave. You could even tie it in to Ben's mysterious decision to stop attacking Vader. Perhaps Ben was showing the only way to beat him, is to not resist. Luke realizes this, but takes it a little to the extreme... as he tended to do. -
"Close Resource Hacker first and your dlls will not get damaged" Ahhhhhh. I see. I'm going to go hit something very very hard now. Thank you.

tk421, could you just change the link to http://www.geocities.com/sander_fase/alia.jpg http://www.geocities.com/sander_fase/alia.jpg I just tried it, and how odd... I can go and see the pic, but it doesn't show up when I preview it. Hmmm. A geocities thing?

I believe it is the same detection as any other... In other words, it is the ability of the thing to detect enemy missions. Read the original Sullustan Infantry card. It says they are great at detecting missions, and they have the highest detection rating. A great way to test these things is to change the vaules to ridiculous highs and lows and play the game (preferably a saved game) and see what happens. I've noticed the computer AI does seem to take detection into account when building units and likes higher detection units. (ditto for bombardment) Although that could just be an illusion...

I plan on making mine the image from one of my cards... as soon as that card gets posted So people, SEND IN THOSE CARDS!

The Clawcraft is well known, but does anyone know anything about their capital ships or where I could get that info? I've heard a few references to the bloodfire http://njoproject.skywalkeronline.net/images/bloodfire_neg.jpg on the web, but do not recall seeing it in the comics or novels. Is the bloodfire legit? I had to redo my TC (a bug wiped out a lot... and I wanted to improve my existing models) and I'm thinking of including it to give it more of a Chiss-feel.

Thanks calamari... I meant to write "millions" I love theforce.net. The challenge of resolving Star Wars with our knowledge of physics is worth the mental exercise. and yes... I know it was just a movie made by Mr. Lucas Still, food for thought is food for thought regardless of the tree it came from. I always resolve the bizarre fighter physics (they fly like they're in an atmosphere even in space) by thinking that it is related to hyperdrive/antigravity technology. If there is a way to move into a higher/lower dimension to travel (or defy gravity) then it may also be possible to just lightly tap into that realm enough to act as a rudder. Thus, while you would have improved agility (something to steer with) it would also cause friction so that you have a top speed and you need to have the engines on to maintain your speed. Just my .02$... And would you stop to pick up .02$ given inflation? My impression of the DS2 was that it was fully operational (and likely mostly staffed) it just did not have the armor and auxiliary weapons/shields/hangers fully in place. As for sabotage concerns... You have to get on the Death Star first. That would be the hard part. If you can get on without being detected... then it makes sense you would have plenty of chances to blow stuff up. (Of course, then there's the challenge of getting off the thing....)

What are people's 5 ESSENTIAL wants for Reb2?
Chimera replied to Chimera's topic in Rebellion 2 Ideas
Well Jahled, they do have to be concerned that we might change the code and release a substandard product with the Star Wars name attached to it. And George Lucas would never, ever, EVER do that. Never. Ever. Unless of course, he could make a penny off of it Ya gotta wonder some days if he got his inspiration for the Trade Federation by looking in a mirror -
Your Ultimate Rebellion Strategy!
Chimera replied to GeorgeLucasmustdie's topic in General Discussion
If you play rebel style, you have no need of bombardment. Simply put some good saboteurs on a corvette, send it into the imperial planet close to uprising (faster, plus you can remove and Ties that might detect your sepcops) and blow up a regiment of stormtroopers. Not only do you deprive them of 1 troop regiment to keep the people down, but the Empire loses popularity on the planet for failing to prevent sabotage (according to the manual...). That's what I meant by the domino effect... Fleets bombardment is also are inferior because they often can't work against shielded/LNR planets. PLUS, if you hit a production facility then YOU lose popularity. But each to their own. I don't scrap my initial fleet. They're good for moving people around quickly and relatively safely. But I don't add much to it at the outset. I'll build fighters to defend a key planet or too, but that's about it. -
There are also some shades of light blue that it will not accept, as I found out while make Chiss Character cards

jahled - love your spacehopper by the way I also have wanted something better than the bulk cruiser. I love the Radiant vii/Diplomat Class Corellian Cruiser you see in the comic books/Episode 1, so I made a model of it. Hopefully, soon you will get to see it and I hope it also makes an interesting replacement. It is basically a weaker Carrack Cruiser with the advantage of trademark Correllian speed. After all, the Republic would not want a slow vessel to cart it's Jedi around in...

the easiest way is with The Mask's model importer. He has a great help file, but I'll give it a try too... step 1 - download MODEL IMPORTER, RESOURCE HACKER, and what ever models you want to your rebellion folder. step 2- extract* model importer so that it one folder up from Rebellion as in ..../Star Wars Rebellion/Model Importer/(all the files) step 3- extract resource hacker to the Model Importer folder. step 4 - if it is a rmd file or there is only one .x file, you can copy the whole folder to the Import folder insider of the Model Importer folder (..../Star Wars Rebellion/Model Importer/Import) and skip to step 6. If it is not, then extract ship model to Import folder. step 5 - If there is more than one ship files (.x files), change them to read close.x, medium.x, and far.x Move any txt or html files to another folder. step 6 - run model importer. Select the ship you want to replace. step 7 - goto RebEd. Select capital ships, the ship you replaced (it's picture will not have changed) and select "R" right next to the picture of the old ship. You should see your new ship rotating (Warning - Home One and the Mon Remonda cause RebEd to crash, but your model is ok). step 8 - Goto swrebellion.com and download the appropriate ship card (.rsc) and replace the old ship card using RebEd (load card). Now run rebellion and see if it works. If you want to find out fast, Use RebEd to set ship cost to 1 and research to 0. You should be able to build the ship right away. Now send it to Coruscant if you're a rebel or to various rebel planets if you're the empire. This will pick a fight and you can see that your ship works in tactical mode. Hope that helps! *=If you click on the zip file and there is no extract option, you can download and extracter from winzip.com I think... there's a free extractor called winzip somewhere on the web... search for it if it's not there.

I have chatted casually with a copyright attorney who confirms that, suprisingly enough despite your intent to distrubte it freely and despite it clearly being a labor of love, a full game with the star wars title on it could be prosecuted. HOWEVER 1- The only damages they could seek would be for your profits (none I assume) and for "dillution"... and that is a vague concept meaning you were watering down the product. A hard case to make here (given all the star wars stuff that blatantly violates cannon, etc.) and also hard to put a $$$ value on, which brings us to #2 2- Since you probably have not much $ (I'm assuming you're not a millionnaire), there's no much reason to sue you... So the end result would be that you'd most likely get some threatenting letters, and they would probably focus more on coercing your web provider into removing the files. HOWEVER PART 2 Evader99 is right. If you make it a game engine that is generic and just happens to have the capacity to use the files on this website, you'd be in the clear. You could even openly encourage people to create space stories of thier own...etc. etc. As the net shows, you can always find lots of people willing to mod. And everyone's happy!

also, make sure you have the program RESOURCE HACKER (and all of it's files) in the same folder as the importer. I missed that the first time and also, if the importer either has to be one folder up from tactical.dll, or you need to edit the ini file (it explains how in the help page). I tried to unzip it and go, and had the same result. So then I read the help file

thanks guys! Now I just have to reinstall EVERYTHING on my TC because I did something that crashed it and killed it all. bleah. I have the files, I just had not saved a recent "settings" And I'm redoing my models to make 'em spiffy.

yes. and no. Ok, you probably want more than that. You can add alderaan only by going to the galaxy map editor (upper left hand of RebEd) and selecting "system." This allows you to edit systems. Now you can click on individual planets and change their names and pictures (and there is a "rubble" option). However, I do not know if your rubble planet will be treated any differently. I fear you'll end up with rubble that has people and factories on it... Also, you cannot change a planet's side or even select what planets the empire will get and what the rebels will get. Which is REALLY REALLY REALLY too bad. Because I dunno about you, but I expected a sea of green with a few rebel planets (Mon Cal, etc.) and maybe a scattering of bases on the outer rim. Wish wish wish we could edit the starting planets. Oh well.

alliance: what is good and what is bad?

That stupid droid will cause havoc with your plans if you give him the reigns. They really should have included a "smack the droid" option where your mouse either became Chewy's or Vader's hand. Of course, that's part of the challenge I always play on large, but it does mean the end game can become "find the rebel base" if you're playing the empire. Fun fun... jumping from planet, to planet, to planet, to planet.... (or just build a mess of probes and launch them as they come out of the factory). But you want Mega-sized fleets on your and the AI's sides then large is the way to go (and leaving the AI alone for 500-1000 turns). -
chimera nich sprechen zie deutche... well that's obvious from that sentence right there Someone once taught me a phrase she said would cover any encounter I had with a German speaker. She told me to smile like an idiot, nod a lot and say "Ich weiss nicht." I tried it once, and got lots of laughs You might want to mention to people to click on the Union Jack or Stars-n-Stripes to get the English version of your page I only noticed the second time thru What can I say, Ich weiss nicht

THANKS MATT I have practically nil programming skills... I can do formulas in excel and that's about it But if I can help, lemme know. I can do cards and low poly models...

Figured out your model importer. Very cool, thanks! I also notices the Sovreign and Eclipse... two of my favorite ships, are over 10000 (11k and 12k). I hope it runs decently with them?!? And the replacement SSD is 22k!!!!!!!!!! Ouch. Back to the 6k for me.

Chimera replied to Messiah's question in Questions from Newbies
Now for the next level (assuming you're like me and multiplayer is not a realistic option) Play it until say.... turn 200. Then turn over everything to the droid (production, garrisons, ect.) and set it on very fast until turn 500. Now try to win. Next level beyond that - Move every character and every ship to your capital (Coruscant or the rebel base). Then turn it over to the droid until turn 500. Try to win. -
Balancing is tricky.. especially since Rebel starfighters are superior, so an ISD that carries 6 x-wings is actually more powerful than a ISD with 6 ties. That's why I usually make my Mon Cal's a little under their Imperial counterparts. However, in my latest TC I offer the ISD, SSD, and some others to both sides. I never play multiplayer, so I tend to come up with a "balanced" version that never gets truly tested (I just let it run to turn 500 for each side then compare how they did). Then I quickly modify the stats to favor the imps or the rebs and I actually play those games .

Hi all! I've discovered that unlike cards, you need webspace to put up TCs and models. Any suggestions for free webspace sites? I used to have one back in the 90s, but they went cash only

I thought your model importer only worked with .rmd files Mine are all .x or .3ds files

the mystery deepens. I can now see it in rebed, and sometimes in the game (although it flickers and parts go transparent at times). But when I try to switch two other ships around (which I've done before) suddenly ALL my models disappear from Rebed, and the game crashes before entering tactical mode. Is the problem that my new model is ~2400 polygons?
