Dark Forces Mod
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Mad78's topic in Old Star Wars games nobody plays anymore -JI
I can see the Dark Trooper models taking some time, as well as the cutscenes, but they really don't have too many textures they have to create. They are also making more work for themselves by re-skinning everything that was included in JO, like the stormtroopers. The new one looks nice, but so did the JO stormtrooper. -

I've never played agains the Imps, so that may very well be why they aren't building. If you play agains the Rebels you're sure to have more of a challenge. -

I guess Luke wouldn't have left without him, but I've every confidence that Ben could have been Vader's equal with a lightsaber. Vader was strong in the force, but that doesn't automatically make you a good swordsman. It's also possible that Ben knew his death would push Luke farther along in his desire to learn the ways of the force. -
Emulators are perfectly legal, but the games you get for them are not, unless you own an actual copy of it.

64 bit processors do have slightly better performance than thier 32 bit counterparts, but not enough to really make htem worth the extra money, unless you plan on using over a gig of RAM. I would suggest getting a regular Athelon, either a 2800+ or higher.

I overlooked that . It does look good, but I would have expected progress ot be farther along after over a year of developement, especially with much of hte resources already there since the idea isn't far off from Jedi Outcast. -
OOC:Just read backa couple of line and you'll find that captain_brandei's post sort of works in with that.

That is also something I didn't really understand. if he were there in the flesh, he could have tought Luke the ways of the Force and then sent hi to Yoda for some extra practice. His death was really quite senseless. -
IC: The cantina had begun to fill up, only a few, well-lit booths remaining, leaving only the scattered tables on the main floor, most of which were uncomfortably close to the Jizz band playing, and the stools around the bar. One of the new arrivals, a none-too-happy looking young officer, was making his way to the bar, briefly taking in the patrons in his path. he took a seat farther down the bar from where Thrawn and his group were sitting, keeping to himself, and seeming intent on drinking his worries away. "Barkeep," Thrawn called, the burly bartender sulking over, "a drink for that man down there." "You want me to get him some flowers, and a 'get well' holo-card too?" Cocking an eyebrow at the bartender, Thrawn regarded him cooley. "Just the drink." Moments later the barkeep refilled the young officer's tankard, grumbled somehting, pointed towards Thrawn. The Admiral gestured to the empty stool on his left as the young man looked over. OOC: I hope your an Imperial, I just assumed

I will, once I buy a gig of new RAM. My old RAM (512 meg of which I just bought ) is only PC2100, so I have to run my 2800+ at the speed of a 2200+... I have to go out a buy a gig of PC3200 ram before I can truely enjoy it.

Well, when he was younger he looked better when he fought, but when he's in his 60s, well, I think a stone statue has more mobility. -

I didn't mind Obi-Wan in the first two movies, but he really didn't do much in the original series. He was sort of a wimp in the battle with Vader. -

That's if we ever get it. I know modding isn't the simplest thing, but these guys have been working on this for 14 months, and there isn't anything to show for it (in the way of downloads)? It looks interesting, but I won't hold my breath. -

What difficulty of AI are you playing against? That has a big impact on thier performance. -

You can't take your bote back! If I can't do it in politics, you can't do it here... unless you vote for Luke that is -
Well, I figured it out. Krytos: If you's is displaying (in your system menu) that it's only 380 MHz, you should get that checked. What is displayed there is the processing power of your CPU. A Pentium 3.0 GHz actually performs at around 2.2GHz. What is diplayed there will not change based on what you are doing, or have been doing. It is a set number. Mine was displaying so low 9and possibly yours as well) because the settings in the BIOS were not set for the correct FSB speed for the processor. My processor's FSB is 333, so the speed in the BIOS should be roughly half that, so 166. THis also effects what you processor displays at (mine should say 2800+, but was showing 2000+. THis means there is a problem). Mad78: Post 1: Well, as long as the BIOS is correctly configured, and your RAM is PC 3200, an Athelon 3200 will display as such, though the GHz will show as 2200. Post 2: I upgraded from an Athelon 1700+ (14.67 GHZ) to an Athelon 2800+ (2083 GHZ). You might not want to get a 3200, if that is what you were planning on. You'll pay far more than I did for my 2800+, but only get 120 MHz more in power. The same can be said for the 6b-bit processors. Thier GHz never break the 2.6 marck, and you'll pay through the nose just to use more than a gig of RAM. Just stick with AMD though. My processor will outperform a 3.0GHz Intel, though my GHz is lower. mawshiye: I'm afraid you've gotten confused about the AMD naming system, as I did myself. the numbers (i.e. Athelon 2800) are only model names. An AMD 2800 actually has less GHz than an Intel 2.8 GHz processor, though in the end it performs better (I'm not sure how Intel gets away with it, since their 2.8 GHz processor puts out around 1.7 GHz, significantly less). The AMDs do have more power than the Intels. The fact that it was displaying as a 1.6GHz was, as I stated above, due to the BIOS settings. Now that I have changed that, it reads as a 2.08 GHz processor. For reference on AMD Athelon (not 64, but the same ratios apply), go here: http://139.95.253.214/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=28,E=0000000000172547234,K=3365,Sxi=15,Case=obj(3821)

In any game I've played agains a Hard AI, I've been attacked before I attack them. They are usually in the star position next to me, and the fact that i don't build fighters means I focus on bigger ships. I tend to build big fleets, so the computer has lots of time to attack me. I usually have around three Titans and around eight ISD IIs supported by 14-18 Lancer Frigates before I'm attacked, and I'm not nearly close to being ready to go on the offensive. I think you jsut need to patient. If you wait for them, the game is more challenging since you have to fight your way to thier base (and then take out the five Golans they usually have), though only the first attack is dangerouse. -
You know, I don't think LucasArts lists Yoda Stories on their site. If you're running XP, Mad, or have a newer sound card, you may have trouble getting the sound to work on Dark Forces. Unless you have a Sound Blaster, there's just no support for odd brands.

I recently bought a new processor (just today, as a matter of fact) and after I put it in, the system screen shows my processor as 1.67GHz. THis worried me a bit as I bought an AMD 2800. I know that the processor will perform lower than what it is designated at, but should mine be displaying at so low a GHz?

That's true. Barkoa probably just included the well-known jedi from the movies. -
Grats on that Mad. I'm thinking of getting TIE FIghter, if only to experience the Thrawn sub-plot.

I just downloaded the 14 day trial (again), any I'm still not overly impressed... but I am still alone. AA or Darky, either of you want to reactivate your account to give me a hand ?

There are too many of them to vote for, and a lot of them were just bit parts. -
A sligh smile crossed Thrawn's face. "Indeed. I have determined that we'd stand no chance. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the architecture in this building, and there is no artwork to be heard of. I'm afraid these bartenders would be fart too unpredictable to engage. That, or our troops would defect, preferring a good ale to military service." He rose from his seat and crossed the short distance to where the two men were conversing. Now that he was closer, he inspected the younger man, noting the casual demeanor in which the man held himself. Clearly a pilot. "I don't believe we have met," Thrawn said, extending his hand, "Grand Admiral Thrawn."
