Metric and clecius just make life so much easier! For instance, it's easier to explain to a kid that 0 degrees means water freezes, not 32. And what about trying to explain 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, a strange-number of feet in a mile.... It just isn't consistent. No, good ol' metric just says, "Move the decimal." And celcius, well, what is the point of measure temperature off the freezing point of mercury? I mean, who the hell truely cares (by who, I mean the common person); celcius with its logical basing off the freezing point of water is so much better!

Never heard of it. Must have been a weather balloon; those pesky things just keep crashing everywhere.

Excellent! (now if I can only get models to work correctly on my game)

Three hours lost. I woke at about 8:30AM and after some walking around aimlessly, I started work on making this image to make it a replacement card for the one the game brings for Thrawn. I'm pretty bad at editing images, but I was making pretty good process, having taken all the black away and edited the colors around the waist some to make them to my liking. Then, at about noon, I got the hair-brained idea to take a shower and give myself a much-needed shave (I now look far more like my old, usual self) so I decided to leave the image on the screen until I got out of the shower. Then my damned brain said, "Wait! We've been having power outages lately!" I promptly replied, "Yes, yes we have...what's you point?" (my dog was, at this point, staring at me strangely...there was no one else around....). "Well," my brain went on, "if you leave the image on the computer screen and there's a power-outage, poof, your image is gone!" I thought about this for a moment, to which my brain added. "Stop trying to think this through, just save it!" After a few more seconds, I agreed that the image should be saved for safety's sake. This is where my lack of editing/imaging skills becomes apparent...you see, I know certain file types cause a loss of color quality and make the pixels all skewed and what-not, so I knew I had to be careful of how I saved it (as you've already guessed, I don't know which file type prevents my fears from happening). I went ahead and picked a file type--256 color Bitmap, to which I got a window telling me I would lose color quality if I saved it as this type of file and if I wanted to continue...I, of course, clicked No. I then thought about it a little while longer and saw the file type "JPEG"; something in the back of my mind--probably Logic--said, "Stupid idea!", but I did what I usually do and ignored it. Like a Neanderthal with an AK-47, I did what seemed to be right...I hit save. No warning this time, none at all, the image simply and suddenly saved as a JPEG, making all my worst editing nightmares come true as pixel after pixel became skewed and lost. I screamed at the screan (my dog went running out the doggy-door, probably thinking I was once again drunk and angry at the damned TV--which is normally the computer--for not changing the channel when I pointed the remote--actually my cell phone--at it and hit buttons) and fell back in my chair. Sighing deeply, I decided to close out the image and take a break while I took a shower in hopes clearing my thoughts of malicious retribution and, hopefully, come up with a way of fixing this error (yes, I had already tried "Undo"). This is wear my lack of editing/imaging skills becomes even more apparent. Thinking that the image was saved as a JPEG on my machine, I clicked the little "x" in the right hand corner and the image disappeared...then a really bad feeling turned in my stomach--the same feeling you get when you have too many burrittos and very bad beer. My brain promptly spoke up, saying, "Now you've gone and done it!" I cocked an eyebrow in question. "In case you didn't notice, the program didn't ask if you wanted to save new changes, yet you clearly clicked 'Undo' a few times." I was still confused, so Brain continued, "Any changes made and the program will ask if you want to save those changes, but it didn't." It didn't take me long to realize what Brain was telling me, and before long I was clicking my way into my Pictures folder only to find that, just as Brain had said, no 'Thrawn_card.jpg'. I have now come to realize--after a long and ardious explanation that hopefully one or two people will read--when I clicked for the image to be saved as a JPEG, I had actually ended up merely converting the image to a JPEG! Nothing ended up getting saved and now, 2:22PM, I have lost three hours of work time (and about twenty minutes of typing time in explaining all of this).* I have come to conclusion that I am no good at making/editing images. *Note: Though what happened in this post is true, it has been dramatized in order to both amuse and present the author's current state-of-mind.

Sorry for a double-post, but I figured this might spark some interest: I was thinking we could take a poll to find out what language people speak here most other than English and then make a forum specifically for and in that language, similiar to what this website did and it seems to work pretty well. It would allow people who don't use English as a primary language to join, allowing the community to grow. It could always be a forum that is specifically devoted to non-English threads... ...just an idea.

Well, I figured all the profits could go to helping keep the site running (not to say it needs it, but extra money always helps). Additionally, whoever runs the store and make the products for the store and, if they use profit for the site, could write it off on their taxes.
-
That's a good point, but then again, it would just make use that much more...unique.

I really do wish the USA would switch to metric, celcius, and everything else the rest of the world uses...it'd be easier. I tell you, looking back I wish I had been allowed to use decimals and meters in grade school versus fractions and feet.
-
I know Vivendi said that for Half-Life 2 back in Summer 2003.

Good point. ...um...um...um Shoot...SOCL turns to Trej. We've got someone asking too many questions, what do we do?...

This sounds like many of the same problems I've heard. For instance, some people saying the 3-D doesn't work, others say the sound doesn't work, and still others say the joystick doesn't work. Interesting.... Not just yet, I'll have to get my laptop hooked-up to the Internet (I'm using someone else's computer, a desktop, for the Internet right now) and I'm still the process of finding my joystick's installation CD. Will this make the sound work?
-
That's what I figured, but I thought maybe the 'Dark' part was...nevermind.
-
Ooo, I like the sound of that.
-
Whoa, really?! I've been hear for a while and I didn't even know that! Is it Dark Force Rising (which is the second novel in the Thrawn Trilogy) or is Dark Empire (which is where the Emperor's clone starts making trouble)?

I wasn't sure where else to stick this so... Has anyone ever given any thought to making an SWR.Com store? I know that this small website has its own store where it cycles a five or six items at a time. Perhaps if we have a store, we could make the site better and better...and we could all wear geeky shirts that say things like "SWR.Com, Where Spam Grows" and "Animated GIFs, Downloads, and Geekiness, OH MY! SWR.COM!" Okay, but seriously, what does everyone else think?
-
It's great to see a thread thrive on the insanities of its community. I also enjoy (and get a kick out of) the conversations that are exchanged here at SWR. It snowed like it never has before (literally) here, but then it warmed up so much that we had flash-flooding and, of course, the city has used all its money on something like flags for our streetpoles that are torn down within a few days of being put up or on streetsigns that were crashed into when people couldn't see them in the snow, so we have no rescue services and people have to wade for their lives despite the fact the water is infested with the Cumberland River's water, which is close to being flamable. Then, once all that was over (sometime in January), it become colder than it had been before and now...it's sprinkling. Odd weather this is; yes, odd. Good food, good; hot!

I also tend to have some trouble viewing the cards since the images take so long to load. I'm not an image person, but perhaps there's a way to lessen the upload time? Maybe make more pages and less entries per page? A quick comment on a related topic, the models. Perhaps a screenshot of the individual models should be included (just as how the cards have images included).
-
I say The Cat Jahled Tries To Master (I'd prefer not to say the name since bad things happen when one does) should be our mascot! It would be expression of both our Star Wars fanaticism and the SWR community's insanity.

Maybe I'm mistaken. What does the dosbox do, exactly? (out of pure curiosity)

Take the time to re-read it and see if it become clear. Remember, Mask is writing this with english as a second language. If all else fails, consult the master himself. (Mask) No, it's not the language/wording, just some of the technical lingo (the file types and whatnot). After a few minutes of reading and checking different files to find what type of files they are, I more-or-less figured out what everything meant. I think you might have saved it over another spot. That's the only explanation I have for it. (Mask? Any ideas?)Hmm... Well, I went ahead and reinstalled everything and started from scratch. After an hour or so of playing around with the game-included cards to make them more to my liking, I went ahead and replaced the Assault Transport with the Dominator Star Destroyer. After that, I took a deep breath and went ahead with the process of replacing the Assault Transport model with the Dominator model, after which I started a new game which, of course, does nothing to show me whether the model is working or not because I would have to spend a terribly long time before going into combat with a Dominator. Now, I went ahead and closed out Rebellion and got online and...here I am. I guess I'm just worried that I'll check the "Dominator ISD" entry in RebEd and see the correct card but not the correct model. Additionally, I was curious if I have done something wrong or if I still need to do something else before the model will work(?).
-
I've heard, though, that the Windows 95 version does some funny things (as well as the Collectors Edition). Any known?
-
I some how figured that, but I didn't do the calculations. Thanks.
-
Yes, I probably should. Right. Hmm...maybe that's what happened. Wait...you mean I'll lose everything I tried to do if I load a saved game? I ask because I tried replacing the Galleon with the XQ2 platform, did (both model and card), then I changed my mind, when to RebEd, clicked "Restore Default", restored to Galleon, loaded the game and no more platform. So...does this mean when I send a Galleon into tactical, I'll end up with a platform? Shoot, I forgot about backing-up... I did use that, but I got confused when it got into the technical lingo and when it told about how the tactical dll has to be in the folder of the directory and how the dots before it determine where the folder of the... You can see why I've been having issues. Here's the question, though. I uploaded the Dominator Interdictor Star Destroyer over the Assault Transport, both the model and the card. I started a game, but when I saved the game and came back to RebEd, I still only saw the Assault Transport when I clicked to see the 3-D/tactical image (the spinning one). What's going on? Also, how does one use RebEd to make it so it takes less time to build a ship? I mean, I know how to lower and the cost and what-not, but not how to reduce the time (after all, waiting 300 days from an ISD is a little too long)?

I love the TIE Fighter game, it is SO much, but it's a rather old game so naturally I assume it won't run on XP (like most older programs). Of course, Rebellion runs perfectly fine on XP, so why not TIE? So I went surfing the net and found a million and a half people who say it doesn't work and another handful who say it does with a few modifications (specifically, deactivating the 3-D graphics, I believe). I tried TheForce.Net, a Google search, and even the official LucasArts page to find about an equal amount of people saying it will and will not work and LucasArts saying it won't. So...will it work or will it not work? Does anyone know? If you must modify it to work on XP, is losing the 3-D graphics the only option or is there a possible way around that? Or, quite simply, are my days in the cockpit over?

I just figured it'd be a good idea so people don't have to download every single card or mod for a certain ship in order to find which one they like best, but instead they can read a few reviews or comments on them to be able to make a judgement call ahead of time.
