My PC is so old only Rebellion and Aliens versus Predator work on it

Yupp Jahled, we are that old :)

btw EVERYONE should check the serires "I, Videogame" it's stunning superb stuff on Discovery Channel. You older mates should check the first episode especially (online on youtube), that freakin interesting.

It's not just about video game evolution, rather about social aspects, culture and people.

http://www.discoverychannel.co.uk/ivideogame/html/index.shtml

"I, VIDEOGAME tells the story of the people, the ideologies and the technology behind video games and how they have exploded into a cultural phenomenon. The evolution of gaming has seen the pendulum move from the days of games replicating society, to society replicating games. Featuring interviews with giants in the gaming industry of yesterday and today, this five-part series examines the evolution of the videogame and its cultural impact on the world of entertainment today."

Highly recommended to every player, non-player.

Ep. 1/1.

People of a certain age might remember bunking off school to race home and play Manic Miner or Jet Set Willy on the ZX Spectrum..

Seemed terribly advanced at the time

There you go

The ZX Spectrum? Never even heard of that one. I always got home to play my 2600 or the ancient Intellivision that my sister pawned several years ago for whatever reason.

After about seven years I finally stumbled about a copy of the Alpha Centauri Addon "Alien Crossfire" and it´s amazing! There are about six new factions and two of them are aliens, which are very powerfull. Also new monsters to fight and lots of new technologies to research. Marvellous! :D

Dude! Eagle! I love that game! It was one of my favorites back when it came out, I never did get the expansion though... although I found out that its all still for sale through the website.. but that is awesome! you have got to post more about it!

I would love to snag an 8-bit NES.

I love dragging mine out from time to time and playing some of the old school games... unfortunately my SNES broke a few years back.. and have yet to repair it.. :? but im sure you could find a NES on ebay or somethin...

Sure, I will, JH. I just can say that it´s really awesome! :D

Though the game itself is still a great, the addon renews it. But guess what not - the graphics of course. But who cares!? Of course there are a couple of new textures for units and the landscape, but nothing more. As far as I could discover up till now, any of those new factions are great and every new scientific discovery makes sense. Your starting the game just to play a bit and after you are looking for the watch you´ve discovered that allready two or three hours were gone. :)

Who cares at all?!

Yeah, they are on ebay, and even in the gaming stores here in town. I just have other things to spend money on, especially with the holidays approaching.

... So I rediscovered X-wing for the second time today, partly because I remembered Mad telling me how splendid he thought it was.

I do indeed love it- my new player is a Lieutenant with six missions under his belt and a medal or two for it- so far just Tour of Duty I.

Did anyone ever manage to beat that annoying Tour of Duty IV mission where you're in a Y-wing and you have to identify and dissable to transports bearing slaves, destroy the rest of the convoy before it can jump/rendevous with a capital ship, and keep TIE Interceptors/fighters off the backs of the two rescue shuttles, all without any supporting fighters? It's maddening!

Yep I've beaten the entire game. Multiple times. From what I remember, all the missions in X-Wing (at least the Collector's CD I had) were doable. The missions were pretty hard, but for just annoying, cannot-beat-the-mission bugs - X-Wing Alliance takes the cake.

Ever tried the Death Star run with no shields? Impossible... but it was fun trying using the X-Wing map editor.

Finished that bloody mission- it turns out that you don't have to destroy the stupid convoy- Doh! I was going by what the fish-head told me to do, not the objectives, for far too long... I've since transgressed to better missions, but unfortunately I died during that tour of duty and lost my rank of lieutenant... I liked seeing the bumps on my guy's uniform's shoulders...

As for FoC: Yeah, huge dissapointment, there. Waste of money on my part, and no video game store will take used PC games any more... Grr...

To further my hatred of the Xbox, I give you the Smacktalk

1) Its not a popular item.

2) Xbox Live comes with a Mute button for players, simple and easy to do.

3) Why hate Xbox? Its not like Sony has done anything spectacular in the past year. Except lose money hand over fist on a system that is still being outsold by the PS2. And the Wii. And the 360. Ect ect ect....

A couple of months it has been discussed here. I´m not sure if it was in this thread, but anyway. It´s finally developed:

The Lightsaber for the Wii and PC!

The only problem is, that there isn't a game for that controller. ;)

Read again, Eagle.

For use with Nintendo Wii games console. Simply slip your Wii Remote into the handle and press the on button to instantly power up your light sword, the power up and down effect is done gradually until the light sword is at its full length.

It's essentially a handle for your Wii remote- like a new casing for your PC mouse, it does nothing more than look pretty.

@Tofu

Of course you can use it, but there´s still no game out with lightsaberfights for the Wii, isn´t it. ;)

I thought they made a version of Jedi Outcast for the Wii- or am I just crazy? Didn't Rob mention picking it up and enjoying using his saber to hack stormies to bits? I know I enjoyed it when I was just using a computer mouse, especially with saber realistic combat
