The hated topic : SSD - Super Star Destroyer
Swiftdraw replied to Cain's topic in EAW General Discussion
Counter to the SSD? Overwhelming cost... Lose even one or two of these things and your going to be hurting for the rest of the game. Really, if you had the choice between (maybe) four ISDs or 1 SSD what would you go for? Personally I'd go for the ISDs since I tend to like to have at least numerical supiriorty and mobility. I really don't know what the ships are going to be like, ever since I saw the stats for the Mon Cal and ISD (A Mon Cal has more firepower than an ISD?!?! WTF!!!) I really have no clue anymore. Also the Lancer/Carrack/Dreadnought things are a tad confusing. Maybe the rebs will get something, maybe not. -
A couple of Counter-strike forums I've been to are absolute hell... I tend to avoid large forums like gamespot, gamespy, and such for they seem to breed the most idiots. Though the Atari UT2k4 mod forum is not bad at all, they're the ones who got me into modding.

You don't blackmail/bribe EA.... The blackmail/bribe you.

A couple of friends of mine still play Golden Eye on multiplayer. We tend to play with the proxy mines the most... Much cursing involed, but we developed great mine sweeping tatics as a result.
-
Yeah, but that will be more of a problem for the rebs though. TIEs usually swarm anyhow, with the heavier ones going after specific things (ex. bombers against cap ships.)
-
So fighters are going to be in pre-arranged squadrons... Thank you little-b.

I read this off of Evil Avatar about 20 minutes ago... I went to a 48 hr. LAN party once and crashed around the 39-40 hr. I don't remember exactly when, around the 27th hr. everything gets kinda fuzzy... I remember playing as "Jigglypuff" on team pokemon for Counter-strike... Probably the only reason being I've screenshots of it. Meh, oh well. Remember kiddies, Bawls Guarana is your friend at LANs!!!

EAW Community - Second Interview (WIP)
Swiftdraw replied to Foshjedi2004's topic in EAW General Discussion
1) Can you reveal how new units are produce? Example, are there ship yards? 2) If there are production facilities, can you target them? 3) Is there a tech tree? If there is how large is it? 4) Outside of the Death Star, will there be any other WMDs? 5) Can you reveal any new details on the multiplayer? Such as how the server list be set up, will there be a stats system, will there be a quick player match up based off stats (if there is a stats system), and what measures are being taken to prevent cheating? 6) How is base building/exspansion going to be handled? -

Thats probably why I don't like it... The alternatives usually being "defend this unit/building/area for X amount of time", a variant of this is also with a set number of units and/or you must fight your way to another location. I don't care for any of those. Then there are "sneak into this area, blow up the objective without being caught." I really hate the sneak missions. -
I just meant for games in general... I'm just plain tired of it. I just see this as fantasy encroching on one of the last bastions of non-fantasy settings. Well, best of luck to them.

Considering most RTSs I play fail at making an intresting story (starcraft being somewhat of an exception), I'm completly content to blow the $#@! out of stuff on multiplayer and simgleplayer skirmish... Not to mention you don't have to put up with defense missions and stealth missions on non-campiagn modes. Also playing humans brings great variaty, or more accurately, un-predictibilty. You think no one will be dumb enough to go one route yet they do, repeated and still somehow succeed on getting through forcing you to re-deploy troops for base defense. Also they go for feints and nasty little trick manuevers that the computer can't replicate. Also I've never played an RTS where someone started going on about "OMG!! soandso is such a h@xx0r!!1!1!", sure I've encountered a few idiots but nothing I couldn't handle. In conclusion, the campiagn isn't really a nessicity for me. In fact I haven't completed a single player caimpiagn since C&C RA2 came out. I started DoW but never finished it due to the lack of intrest, same thing with Ground Control II, Homeworld, and Homeworld Cataclysm. I haven't even started C&C; Generals, Rise of Nations or Empire Earth I or II's campiagns. -
EA has a thing for money making series... I doubt they'll let go of it easily.
-
Thats why I said almost, but I beleive most medival combat was of the melee varity thus negating the "shooter" part of FPS. Maybe your a wizard going around blowing stuff up, I dunno, I'm not that intrested.

FPS genre is my primary, closely followed by RTSs. I also play lots-o-platformers and fighting games. Though right now I'm playing more of the "old school" stuff on my NES (8-bit music rocks!!!) and Atari 2600. Ninja Gaiden is are real biatch I'm finding out and I want to get a sega genisis just for Gunstar Heros, that was such a great game. My dad thinks computers and video games are the bane of all existance. He use to play Madden 2005 (during the football off season) for a bit, but quit that after he started up a bar band. My mom is a closet gamer, she extols the evil of games while playing C&C Red Alert 2. There was a period of time were she had more hours on C&C than I did, and I pissed away enitre weekends playing that game. Also she use to play NES a lot, but after a bad experience with a game called Little Nemo: Advetures in Dreamland she swore that off. My little sis is a Tomb Raider addict and recently has developed a taste for Half-life 2 and Counter-Strike source (she is very scary with a defender.) The latter two games are causing me some distress considering I've got to fight her to play on my own computer.

I remember seeing this before... Besides the fact I find the term "Fantasy FPS" almost to be an oxymoron, I'm really tired of Tolkien-esque settings (aka: swords and dragons stuff.)
-
I rather keep RPG elements out of RTSs. I think that is why I never could get into Warcraft III, to much focus on single powerful hero characters and not enough mass carnage of multiple armies duking it out. I much rather play as the nameless omnipotent commander with several military divisions/squadrons ready to do my bidding. I think this view is a hold-over from my days of heavy C&C playing.

I can't see a need for a story in RTSs due to the fact I mainly play multiplayer or single player skirmish. I'm much more intrested in gameplay aspects than story. If I want story in a game I'll play an RPG or platformer. -

I know SD is a joke, but wouldn't it be funny if... -
Ok kiddies keep up with me... Here is how the series are supposedly patched together... *Red alert 1, Allies beat Soviets and install puppet dictator Romanov to replace stalin. Secertly Cain is egging this whole thing on. *Red Alert 2: Romanov is secertly bitter about the soviet defeat and creates an army to suceed where Stalin failed... Allies beat Soviets again. The psyic Yuri tries to take over the world and gets owned also. *The allies dis-band as the world police force and the UN creates the GDI to take over. In the meantime a meteor hits Earth causing the spread of the substance called Tiberum and a terrorist group calling itself Nod starts blowing things up. *CnC Tiberium Dawn: GDI owns Nod, supposedly killing it's bald leader Cain in the final assault on his temple. *CnC Tiberium sun: Surprise!!! Cain is alive and anger and bald as ever. Its assumed GDI lays the smack down on Nod again. But GDI seems to be losing the fight against the encroching Tiberium, the fact aliens may be coming, and Cain never seems to die leaves a nice big question mark... Generals has little to nothing to do with the rest of the CnC universe.

There is one on every forum... I can't see what people see in HALO, I really can't. I've tried and failed many times. I would find it intresting to have a Gundam vs. Battletech game. Man would I love to smash a couple of my gundam fanboy friends with a couple of Madcats and Atlases... Earth Feds and Zeon I'd go for in a straight up gundam mod. Unless you want to do an SD Gundam thing -

I want another Mech Commander but on the scale of EaW. Chose you're faction (inner-sphere house, clan, or mercenary), and go at it. For gameplay the inner sphere-houses would have the best production capability and numbers, clans would have the best mechs and training, and mercs can play the other two sides to gain a wide assorment of mechs, vehicles and weapons and have above average pilots. That would be so very sweeeeeet. A Warhammer 40k variant of that same idea is a close second.
