The hated topic : SSD - Super Star Destroyer
Swiftdraw replied to Cain's topic in EAW General Discussion
Ah yes, the two Eclipse class and I think four Soveriegn class SSDs... Mmmmmm... Super laser fun. I rather have those than the Executor class, for they can be effective command vessels and kick rebel arse single handely. Not to mention they have a fairly constant and un-changing discription, where the Excutor class description has changed at least 3 times and some theory suggest there is no Excutor class, but a bunch of similarly shaped (and sometimes sized) ships. There are so many consistancy problems with these ships... And I still can't see a pratical use for them, unless they give some great fleet bonuses. The lancer frigate I believe will be replaced by that Carrack/Dreadnought/Lancer thing. As for the fighters... Well we can mod them in. -

Isn't the Death Star enough to fullfill your Big #$%! Ship fantasies? -
I'm sure if they looked hard enough they would have found enough things to balance the game. Probably they wanted to be creative and add something new to the Star Wars universe. You know, leave their mark as it were.

I still can't see why it is nessicary. For its size, the Executor class SSD was incredibly under-gunned and didn't even hold that much stuff (like TIE squadrons and ground assault forces.) I can't see the use of a command vessel either (which was its effective role) unless you gain some pretty good fleet bonuses like quicker hyperspace travel, or better accuracy because of improved communications. -
C&C: Gen. - Zero Hour w/ Imperial Assault Mod...

If my computer had internet connection.... And I really don't think it will fit on my 256mb jump drive I've been using either. I miss my college's T3 connection. One more week, one more week. -
Its not how many guns you own, its what you prupose to do with them that gets ya'. Well... It also depends on the type. the goverment frowns on people owning operational 16 inch re-coiless rifles and MGs.

Meh, I dunna think its that bad. Well... Unless the FBI/NSA/CIA/whoever has you on their terrorist watch list, then they can do basicly whatever. With Swat4, its another simple case of the advertisement companies trying to worm their way into our brains. They've been doing that for decades. In Blizzard's case, I think they're just trying to improve their game, but I'd like to know how secure the information they get is.

Well... It was released before the other three, but bad marketing, (I think) higher initail price, and the fact that Sega, for reasons unknown, put out two systems that flopped not 2 years before and sega couldn't put a lot of money behind it after the intial release. Oh, and the X-Box became popular (mainly due to HALO and Live) after it became apperant that the Dreamcast was going to die.

Ripped this off of gamespot I, for one, can believe it...

Ask yourself, how many time do the soviets have to get beat down before they get the idea that communist suprmacy will never happen? I keep hearing rumors of a Red Alert 3, but I hope they are just rumors, allied on soviet action is getting old. I much rather have a C&C: Tiberium Twilight and finish that series up.

Dumbest, funniest, best moments in any game ?

Worst: Finally beating Armormarines (N64 game), and seeing that the end sequence consisted of the alien queen blowing up in a semi-nuclear expslosion and killing the marine... Anti-climatic to say the least. Funniest: Walking around in Grand Theft Auto: San Andres and a P-51 looking aircraft hits a tree in front of me... Then the flaming wreckage smashes into me... or Same game and I'm walking around with about 8 of my gang memebers backing me up. I cross a set of train tracks and proceed to start a gang war, but it seems I've no back up.... Only thing I see is a train shooting by with 8 bodies lying around the track. Best: Going 43-2 on Counter-strike: source with a TMP. The most common quote I got that day was "OMG!11 swift is a h@xx0r!!11!11 Ban him!!11!1". Fortantly I was at a gaming center whose server admin stuck up for me, usually by saying "he not hacking, you just suck. Quit whinning." I usually go 20-12 (something along those lines) with a TMP, but I was in a rythem that day. -
I've used "Failing miserably at doing nothing" (- Edmond) when my mom wouldn't stop calling during finals week my freshmen year at college. I'm very tempted to get a caller I.D. thing this year...

Well, the allied artillery pieces had a longer range than tanks but was rather slow firing and wildly in-accurate. The cruiser was far better as artillery, though about the same in accuracy it could lay down more fire. The soviet V3 (really a scud) had incredible range, was pretty accurate, but took awhile to re-load. All were best at building busting and tearing up infantry. They could sit outside the range of, for example, a tesla coil and blow it up and the area damage ate up infantry squads. The MRLS of the GDI was kick arse. That thing had range, power, and a good rate of fire. Anyways, my favorite vid game artillery piece of all times would probably be the NSA's from Ground Control 2. To me that is what artillery should be. The thing had to set up, had a huge range, fired its rounds in high arching trajectories, fairly in-accurate but had large damage area, most effective when force attacking an area and not a single target, and if anything was directly hit (which was rare) all but the most heavy of armored vehicles would be instantly destroyed.

Ummmm... that last post was me... Dunno why I was logged out 0.o

Yeah, in a video you see that thing chuck out something firery rapidly and almost randomly. I hope thats not going to be the "artillery" unit, I prefer stuff with extreme-range and indirect fire capabilities.

Wow... Your cheap....

Your kidding me, right??? Ummm, well lets see... World of Warcraft, Everquest 1 & 2, Final Fantasy XI, Guild Wars, and Lieage II just to name some off the top of my head. Then there is an MMO which runs off of user created stuff and I'm sure they have a few fantasy servers.

See, thats a common mis-conception. A lot (if not all) RTS aren't really strategy, they're tatical games. Strategy is laying down an over-all war plan, setting up points to attack/defend, over seeing troop and supply movements and pretty much trying to make the war machine run as smoothly as possible. You don't handle individual battles, thats for your commanders to do. And really, I'm not for cookie cutter teams either because it gets boring really quick. Starcraft probably did the best job (of all the games I played) creating distinct teams and yet be mostly balanced. As for this game... I'll have to wait for more details to come out. They should be two completely different sides, but it may not work out that way. I mean, look at these new units that are appearing, do we know what they do exactly? Heck the rebs may get a unit that can counter a SSD (if its in game) in one fell swoop, we really don't know. -

Thats so they don't have to think on how to deal with the problem, its already laid out for them. Also its ensures "balance" in game if you have two sides that are basiclly the same. -
I love that thing! Not only can you rip the bouncy balls of doom out of the air and shoot them back out but you can throw soliders all over the place... Like say... I dunno.... Into a high energy beam? This is one of the few games where I enjoyed the single player campaign more than multiplayer. Mutliplay your either a gravity gun nut or a rocket 'ho.
-
We never mined the spawns intentionally, we just threw them randomly about and tried to hide them in little holes and blind areas. And we didn't camp, we were usually paralized with fear, figuring if we moved we'd blow up. I beat the game on the first two difficulty levels and beat the dam level at the highest level... Other than that, I dunno.

Zombies are teh roxxors!!!! I love zombies.! More accurately I love zombies for target practice. Except for those shrieking, fast ones... Those can all die and go to a very un-happy place... Well next you have to lead an army of gaint bugs, brake into a high security prison, make your way back out (annoying), get stuck in the teleporter thing, lead a revolt in City 17 (hard and a little longer than Ravenholm), brake into the citadel (has its hard parts, but the ride it the to the top is awe inspiring when you have the graphics cranked), blow up citadel, listen to g-man talk crazy talk, and wait for aftermath to come out. I loved this game. The fact stuff that normally happens in cut scenes happen in real time around you is absolutely sweet. It took me about two minutes the game wasn't going to start off as a cut scene, but I got to move around as stuff happened. If you look around and look clsoe enough you can see little things that really make the game. For example, as you make your way through a rebel strong hold to go to the next area you see rebs shell shocked, at least one crying, and the rest harden to the fight. With the graphics up, this game has parts that are absolutely awe inspiring. Like when your riding to the top of the citadel, you see alien gunship squadrons moving out, being repaired, striders and combine troops moblizing, and a few combine units you never encountered (or will in combat.) Once your almost to the top you can look down over the whole city, and it is just... Wow... This, again, is if you graphics card, monitor, and memory can handle it

Though it was of westwood make and based in space, I would have to pay for it even after I bought it. I don't like that, which is why I don't play MMO's to often (that and most are fantasy based.)

Tractor beams I only see a use for if they have a capturing system in the game. Other than that I really see now pratical use, or maybe to guide ships into repair docks. Escape pods would be good for rescuing hero units. Again, outside of that I see little in the way of usefull applications. Maybe if they had an experience system to gain veteran status you could pick up pods to gain exp., but I don't know if a unit promotion system has been confirmed yet.
