  1. With 3 teams it is damn near impossible and keep up some semblence of a base defense. Your only real hope is that they send some of the WMDs to another AI team and not you. 1-on-1 it realitively easy if you don't mind having over a 100 causalties.
  2. A) you can only have 8 armies at once on a map. B) You better be damn young, because I had this since it came out and I can't beat 3 armies on the max difficulty setting... Something about be nuked (or laser beamed, or scuded) multiple times by multiple teams seems to do me in. Today I got hit by 3 nukes at the same time by the same guy... Broke my defensive line, I can tell you that much.
  3. This is sorta like that Dreadnought/Carrack/Lancer ship thing... That gonna be in the questions too?
  4. I wonder what their first non-star wars game will be like. Another RTS maybe?
  5. Maybe Thompson is using Germany as a template for what he wants American video games to be...
  6. Mmmm... Fallout 2... After I got a new compter and XP, Fallout 2 and Alpha Centauri quit working. Makes me so angry. Anyways, like any company, if Petro makes good games that I like then I'll buy them. If they don't, I won't.
  7. No Tiberium Twilight.... Damn.... Ah well, least there won't be a Red Alert 3. I liked the first two well enough, but how many times can the soviets be beaten? Though I think EA owns the rights to the C&C series and might try something, considering they like doing sequels so very much.
  8. A bright pink AT-AT would be better... That would put the fear into the enemy, or have every gun trained on it.... Either or.
  9. Those are all nice and everything, but methinks a Gamer and Game designer debate wouldn't go well... Remember that not all gamers think things out, I'm sure we'll get "The *enter unit name here* is so gay, can you make it not gay?", "OMG!!! YOU ROCKS!!!", or the reverse of that "OMG!!! YOU SUXX!!!" Then all the hardcore starwars fanboys will get real nitpicky and point out little "un-realistic" characteristics of some units or get into some debate amongst themselves over how "real" the EU universe is and whether any of those units should be in game. The there are the jedi fanboys... "there isn't enough jedis in game, you should be able to train jedis" and so on and so forth. Lets face it, to someone, somewhere the game is going to be un-balanced. Whether it be the fact that the Empire should be able to crush the rebels with no problem yet can't or that the rebel units can't slug it out with imp units on a equal footing and win. Remember the Mon Cal vs ISD thread, or the "should the rebs have their fighters?" thread on the lucas arts forum? You can't keep people from complaining about these things. I agree with the capturing and naming of ships. There is nothing better than to flaunt the fact you captured your opponents prized bttlewagon than to put a support fleet around it and send it in to destroy one of his bases/fleets. As cain said, this is more ego satisfaction than anything else. Rubbing salt in the wound as the saying goes. As for naming ships... I just want to. Yay. Splash damage and wreckage fields are nice, but tend to slow down older systems. Your computer just has to put up with just that much more crap on screen and compute how much damage goes where. Salvaging wreckage for extra credits would be ok, but I'd prefer a streamlined system where at the end of the battle a screen pops up and says "You got "X" amount of credits from sales of the salvage" and maybe a new technology here and there. Things like that I find a little nitpicky and tend to take away from the core game-play than to add to it.
  10. V-wings I don't think will be in for one fact, they don't have tow cables. The snowspeeders in the screen and trailers are always shown wrapping up AT-ATs and not much else (except I think a couple were just flying around.) Without that AT-AT busting capability, I doubt the V-wing speeder will be in. And those look like transports to me...
  11. Quad-cannons and Gattling tanks eat commanches alive. Humvees loaded up with missle troopers are also nasty. MiGs and Raptors also do a job on the helis also, provided they're placed on CAP (combat air patrol.) Helixes are harder to take down, but are also taken down fairly quickly by concentrated AA. My favorite tatic with the US is to turtle up and build partical cannons, more the better. Then I supplement my partical beam with the A-10s and MOAB, then send in my aircraft to mop up whats left. I usually strike out with some humvees (3 missile troopers & 2 snipers if I have them) or raptors to choke off the oppo's supply lines and cover my "frontier" supply areas. Of course I'm also trying to build at least 10 airdrop pads. If I'm against GLA I just have some snipers camp the supply areas. China is my rushing team, basiclly build a whole lot of something and go around killing stuff. The Tank general I go for 10-15 battlemasters 6 gattling tanks and 4 flame tanks. Later in the game I'll supplement this force with 4-8 emporer tanks. Infantry general I send wave after wave of gattling troops, mixed with rocket troops, to distract the base defenses while my artillery goes to town. The artillery has gattling tanks and troops around them to ward off airstrikes. Later I will build some helixes and load those up for airsupport. Nuke general I play a lot like the tank general, but I sometimes I build up nuke MiGs to bust up defenses and supply lines. Also I use the nuke cannon to close off choke points. With all generals I tend ot build at least 3 nukes GLA is a lot of sneaky-sneaky stuff and I can't really win on small maps with them. Larger maps I just build lots of small bases connected by the tunnel network. I love the dirtbikes for hit and run raids on supply lines, those guys can go over mountains to avoid defenses, then swing around to tear inot the soft insides. I prefer the standard GLA team or the stealth general. The stealth general is extremely hard to root out on large maps with 2 or 3 players, he can basiclly can nickel and dime you to death. The fact that the worker units can cloak when the supply center is cloaked makes digging out his resource source operations a pain. He can also cloak he scud storms and its always a nasty trick to use the GPS scrambler to cloak your mobile scud luanchers just short of their base and let fly. Standard GLA team can't cloak as much, but gets tanks. The other two generals can't really cloak anything and I really don't like using them against human opponents.
  12. I have: C&C w/ covert operations C&C Red Alert w/ aftermath C&C Tiberium sun w/ firestorm C&C Red Alert 2 w/ Yuri's revenge C&C Generals w/ Zero Hour Earth 2150 Empire Earth Rise of Nations Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Homeworld Starcraft w/ Broodwars Civilizaion: Call to Power (Actually a TBS, but people were listing Civ. IV) I Want and/or eagerly awaiting: Earth 2160 Star Wars Empire at War DoW exspansion: Winter assault (or was it warfare?) Homeworld 2
  13. Screens seem to suggest the imp gaurd in game are Caridans. I think, for the video game, the imp gaurd are defensive and only strike out with heavy armor and masses of troops. Table top game-wise, they're more long range assault, relying on heavy artillery and armor to get the mission done and use the infantry basiclly as meat shields and disractions.
  14. I prefer the scud storm myself. Its fun watching the missles rain down.
  15. I like it, its not to terribly different from previous C&Cs. Some things are different, like the various generals powers and research upgrades, but other than that you find about any of General's gameplay aspects in previous C&C games. Some people I talk to didn't like it, I don't remember why, something to do with balancing I think. If you're going to get it I suggest you get the Zero Hour exspansion, makes the game a bit better.
  16. Thats an oxymoron if I've ever saw one... I was sold on the game as soon as I saw the massive seige cannon and the bridge blowing up , which sent the troops on it tumbling down into the gourge. I like the idea of city districts they're coming up with, bit better looking (to me) than having to place individual buildings down.
  17. Yeah, but the infantry has really poor morale and brake fairly easily. The tank is the baneblade. I think the DoW version has some massive cannon (I think its called the volcano cannon, don't remember), 4 dual linked heavy bolters, and a auto cannon. The trade off is that, for its size, it has fairly weak armor.
  18. I don't like all the resource gathering... Defending all the peons annoys me. The nukes are fun though. I tend to build those up and when it looks like I'm not going to make it I let 'em fly. To bad the AI doesn't take to nuclear blackmail, ended a lot of games rather abruptly. Humans take to it untill they get the missle shield, then I'm usually SOLed unless I nuke with-in my borders (on the attacking armies of course.) I play Conquer the World sometimes but I've been playing more warhammer 40k: DoW and even C&C generals lately. My Favorite nations: Russia The Native American nation with all the invisible units inside it's borders America
  19. Yes, I tend to stick it out 'till the bitter end if just to inflict more casualties. When I played Red Alert 2 I held out untill my last power plant blew on one game. He finally got it, but that last power plant cost my opponent another 100 and some-odd troops. He won the battle, but I had the higher score. He had over 2000 casualties to my 700 some. I love the new sysem some games are impementing that show the player's wins, loses, and how many games they quit. That way you can avoid the little babies who quit at the first sign of trouble... Incidently these tend to be the people who say "No rush for 10 mins, k?"
  20. The table top game is too exspensive for me and not enough people play it were I live. Not to mention painting those small figures would probably have me institutionalized inside a week. The game is fun, its really the only RTS I play any more. Singe player was to short and I'm waiting to see what the Imp gaurd will be like. Everything I've read has them as a "turtling" group, where they just take a spot and dig in. I tend to play as the orks and try to over run the enemy early in the game with my slugga and shoota boyz. If things run a bit long I get my Nobz and Wartracks going and try to end things before the otehr, non-ork, team gets their armor and heavy weapons going at full steam. Sometimes I'll just play as the Space Marines and just grab some points early on with the scouts and turtle up untill I can get my armored column of 6 predators going. Un-fortantly I've only had two occasions to play on multi-player. Both times I used da' orks and the opponent was using the marines, so I over-ran them early on and they quit as soon as I start damaging their structures.
  21. I doubt there will ever be a Starcraft 2. The first is old enough now where nostalgia has set in and the second will never be good enough to top the first. Some friends and I still play it at LANs, I usually go Zerg considering thats the only race I've succesfully fended off Protoss Carrier attacks with (go scourge!!!) and almost everyone goes protoss. Here is a tip, if your the only non-protoss player, never ever agree to a "no rush" time over 5 minutes, you'll never win. Or agree and rush anyways in the first minute with zerglings. Starcraft : Ghost changes more than a politician during an election year, I judge that game after it is been released for a month or two. From what I read in evil avatar, the new developer has completely re-done it from what was first shown, and that isn't nessicarly a good thing. I've played WCIII: FT five times, and it was some sort of game where you and a few buddies had to fend off wave after wave of baddies. I've never gotten to play the actually game.
  22. If all else fails a modding community could start up to create these things. A newbie attempt could just simply enlarge a ISD and add a few more guns and fighters to it. Though I wonder how mod friendly this game will be (ex. what will the tool set be like, if there is one.)
