As I stated elsewhere not so long ago, I used to DJ at a couple of clubs in North London with the Hobo sound system (which incidentally involved into Smoke City who did ‘Underwater Love’ for the Levis Jeans TV commercial, the samples were from one of my Brazilian Batucada LPs, and Zero7, Sam and Henry, who I went to school with and did gigs with). The music I played ranged from Brazilian grooves, Batucada (drumming/percussion), funky jazz, rare grooves, and lounge/exotica. I still do CDs for a few bars in Clerkenwell here in London, but I had two boxes stolen outside a club with the cream of my LP’s one night, and was so heart broken I gave up collecting music on vinyl. I gotta say, that really hurt! I had records I spent serious bucks on, a Brazilian LP by Trio Mocoto cost £85, Fela Kuti’s ‘Black President’ set me back about £60, etc. Gutted. Anyways, I like all types of music really, with the exceptions of most modern dance and soul. When I was in my teens I was into hard rock and metal along the lines of Motorhead, Scorpions, UFO, Iron Maiden, Zepplin, AC/DC. Rose Tattoo, Rush, etc; basically stuff from the 70s and 80s before all that American glam-metal crap which killed it for me. (It was good to see dudes like the Red Hot Chili Peppers resurrect the rock scene!) So there’s always going to be rock in my soul…though I tend to dwell in the past nowdays as far as rock is concerned. (BTW: Nice recommendation Mask, dude!) I love Jazz. If you guys want to get to grips with the cool, funky stuff, and not the boring crap, check out stuff like Herbie Mann Returns to the Village Gate (Atlantic 1963), Herbie Hancock, especially Thrust, Maiden Voyage, Flood (cost me £100 on vinyl), collections like the German Mojo Jazz series, the Italian Groovy collections (by Irma), and the Partners in Crime collections for sublime folk/jazz/funk/psychedelic grooves. And if you want to get really real check out Miles Davis from the late 60s to early 70s. He had dudes like Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Josef Zawinul, in his band at the time. Pioneering recordings that included the legendry Bitches Brew and my favorite recording of them all, In a Silent Way. If you want to listen to a recording that transforms how you appreciate music, this is the one. You can’t really describe it in any other way. It haunts to the soul in it’s beauty and sheer magnificence and has never really been equaled. Most rock musicians will state it was one of their major influences in music, and the turning point in music at the end of 60s. Brazilian music rocks! To much to say here. I learnt my stuff from a genuine Brazilian DJ, and without sounding to big headed was part of the movement that got the real stuff on the dance floors here in London in the early to mid 90s. Godfather of Brazilian music is Jorge Ben. If you can afford it go get his very first recording on Japanese import, ‘Samba Esquema.’ And be haunted by samba from 1963 that transformed Brazilian music forever after. Loads of Brazilan artists that litter my shelves, Bebeto, Trio Mocoto, Airto, Ed Lincoln, Os Catedraticos, Banda Black Rio and Orlandivo, to name but a few; but be very careful if you fancy branching out in this direction. Brazilian artists have had a horrible habit of re-recording their classics on tacky collections in a manor that would horrify artists in the US and Europe. Given I’m not ashamed to say I know what I’m on about here, if you fancy giving Brazilian music a go, send me a PM and I’ll recommend some affordable hotstuff. And when it comes to the classics, there is nothing more beautiful than Peer Gynt by Grieg, sung in Norwegian, in the bath. Be diverse! But don’t settle for the crap the record companies try to shove down our throats no. It’s an insult to real artists.

Steelwire is the defensive aspect, Mantis was the offensive aspect; two forms of Kung Fu!
-
I used to do Steelwire Mantis years ago. Problem was I was a pushbike courier at the time, so after ten hours of hacking all over London I wasn't really up to two hours punishment twice a week afterwards. When I involved onto petrol-assisted two wheeled transport, I kinda was at that stage where I couldn't really be bothered! Age, it would seem, can be the greatest enemy!

How long was your longest Rebellion game?
Jahled replied to Bill's question in Questions from Newbies
My games now tend to drift into what La_Forge stated, mainly due to character development...(it's fun to get those Jedi well up there, especially on these leadership stats...boy do those Star Destroyers move...) -
No, but when I had loads of time on my hands managing an office I could only gawp open-mouthed at the sheer nerdiness of the entire concept of the site! (No jibe intended!)
-
I wondered how long it would be before that site reared it's head here....

I found that to: http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,58881,00.html Excellant!

I've just been at the pub, so if I seem a bit jangled, you know why! Before I met my girlfriend I used to share a flat with a dude in a flat; back in the days before I had discovered a PC. Brice used to tell me about how much fun he had with Doom on Lan on PCs. Then he told me you could link two playstations... ...two moments later, with determined swishes of my credit card, I purchaced a TV, playstation, link cabel, and additional copies of Doom and Final Doom. Need I say, we both compromised our jobs; but I have never had so much fun! Sleep? Sod it! We spent evenings that drifted into the nights equiped with only pizza, bottles of softdrink, and cans of lager... Dreams...? Sure they were blurred.... All my teddy bears armed to the teeth rampaging around my bed....

Ok, back to my original ANGRY RANT!!! Wierd plot developments. I am convinced that the COMPLETELY STUPID natural pain in the arse is actually not as random as we have been led to believe....emmm.... I am presently conducting a game where I am seriously laying off obliterating the rebel vermin in order to conduct a couple of experiments with the AI...more of which I shall reveal later.... It's about day 2600, I as the glorious Imperium of Emperor Palpatine control about 4/5s of the galaxy. Slow I know, but it's intentional. I have suffered only three of the dreaded natural cause a fit events. So I reckon the dreaded natural AGHAAAA events is actually linked to your ongoing success in the game... ...other wierd things... 1. I have left Coruscant unguarded with the Emperor and captured Mon Mothma for over a thousand days now, and still no Alliance attack on Coruscant! 2. No sign of Luke! I'm into about 2600 on the day side of things....where the heck is he? ...Jahled gibbers...

...emmm...I just have one question. If Dude22 thinks 99% of our forums our bullshit, why is he still here?
-
...yea, but when you've destroyed the ships the AI names (that you can change using Resource Hacker) it stops naming it's ships. I was wondering there's a way to do it during gameplay...it would make things a little more exciting than facing off Dauntless Cruisers 49 and 60...
-
Not me, dude! Twas only a rumor a long time ago in a topic far far away...
-
What operating system were you on before Paul?
-
Yo, O wise and crafty programmers! I was riding my bike bored out of my skull and began thinking. Is it possible for one of you clever people to 'do your thing' and create a little programme which would enable the human player to rename the AI's ships?
-
Nice to have you with us Jim!

....Jahled mummbles something inaudible into a can of lager....
-
He's moved elsewhere I guess! Be interesting if anyone has any means of contacting him though, he might be interested to see what leaps and bounds dudes on this site have made in his absense...and might even rekindle a spark of renewed interest...

Wooo!!! Guys kill this now! Our enlightened laws in Europe arn't those in the States, and I don't want webmaster dudes to lock this thread. This is a gaming site, there are lots of young dudes here that it's not fair should stumble across our wayward mutterings.... Jahled recalls three trips to 'the Dam' and rejoices at the memory of the Salvador Dali exhibition he chose to go to when some of his mates were slouched around a table muttering gibberish, and still speaking crap when he met up with them back at the bar.... Nuff said

...emmmm...you dark fiend....I guess more sinister agents in the field will have to be 'activated....' http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RwAgY9wVrSMeIJysyvwb12FMg5sHl5lU2DFmiHMWO2eZQqhEq4qarsH0nTKooKmctRgGzD6W7xK!xpJ9vv37WpW056EDQJafiLZULFW83o4/LemurLights.gif?dc=4675420638214664633
