  1. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3033 You can start there, it tells how to get the files over and setup under W7. It looks daunting, but it does work for many. Else use MS Virtual PC and load up an old copy of the w95 OS... "i try the method on forum but does not work." Do you mean the above link? in what way does it not work?
  2. Can you sent up pictures in plain jpg or bmp the game uses so I can see them? I cannot get RebEd to function correctly on my new computer. I cannot see the rcc resource. I am sure the pictures will work. Simply re size and place into the picture folder in Rebellion Remake. I am not encrypting them into the executable, so they will simply appear in game. There is no limit on recruiting total number of characters right now. I figure 60 would be plenty for now. I would like some characters to be recruit-able by both sides, and character can be bribed to be traitors too in game, or if they get caught on a mission, or "influenced" by other major characters. Thanks!

Oh yes, I will finish it -I was slow to get going but now things are going to go much faster (as long as my health holds up, but that is another story -I've been lucky so far going on five years, very very luck and happy and thankful to good doctors). I am most glad this website is back up. I also make some small donations each month to help out. After all, they are hosting this remake, or more or less, Rebellion 2 for me and the community. It is the least I can do. I really do not want the trouble of hosting a website...plus this is free anyway. I just hope the copyright holders of the images do not get too upset when I release this tech demo to see how it is running on others computers. I migrated this project to a new computer. I finally got a 1080 monitor and gosh I wish I did this in wide screen, but the original art work is 4:3 so I sticking with that -except you are getting higher resolution at 1024*768 (yeah not great but heck a lot better than 640*480). In the future, I can and need all to help make the higher wide screen format pictures and help avoid copyright issues. I try to give credit to those companies such as Lucas Arts and Coolhand and everyone else whose pictures I use. This game is going to die hard if no one remakes it, and I have to do it from scratch. I have no source code except what I make. The public will have access to the source code...but I do not want a thousand versions of this floating around right now. So that will limited for now. You may have notice how hard people are having trying to get the original to run. I even have yet to get it to work on my new W7 64 machine. I use my old one to look thing up. I am should make a new thread here soon for the testing with regular updates so people will not have to wait years for me to produce something and to help keep this thread fun to watch and discuss. It is just the strategic part for now. I have the tactical engine also but I am not worried about that right now. The first one is the GUI window flipping. I did it without using any MS windows dll library functions (whatever they call it to make life easier to program) since I am an amateur programmer using Dark BASIC Pro the free version. It takes awhile more because of the low level programming I am doing, plus learning the hard way. The option.dat file in the GUI tech demo has three setting and wish for people to try. The AVI movie file cutscene I had problems with getting it to play under the most common codec XVID but I did get a version to work using another codec I think that works with Directplay , it works under W7 so it needs a look. If it crashes then use a hex editor and change the 0 to 1 bit. ( windows default ON, cutscene movie default ON, Music volume HEX). It is three data words. 0100 0100 3200 The game does not support ALT -TAB so do not do it else it will crash. You can click on IMP22 for his random speech. Next I will place the loyalty bars under neath. I have the code from the rebellion tactical engine for that I made a function to display bars (such as the shield strength and hull damage). I am getting faster at this.
  4. Slowly, I am recuperating from a very nasty broken shoulder, then I played another game for a while. One handed. It does take time..I am hoping to get more done now since holidays are over and I get my cast off me shoulder here tomorrow. I think I will put in a good weekend to get something nice done. I have to take it easy so instead of being bored I am staying home and getting caught up on this some more. Very sorry for the long process, it takes a lot of dedication to finish a game, most never do get finished.   5. The original game is 640*480. The new computer video lowest resolution is either 800*600 or 1024*768, so your going to get a tiny picture. maybe there may be a setting or software program that can expand the picture to fill up your monitor. I assume you have wide screen. I can get the game to expand to full size on my monitor which has a low setting of 800*600. I would think it would stretch out to fill your screen up also. If you have a wide screen monitor, what brand is it and lowest supported minimum resolution can you go on it (video card makes a difference too- Brand name and model), plus its Normal native resolution? There maybe a conflict there. Somewhat older Video cards will not/maybe allow a forced setting to your monitor for odd native resolutions of monitors.
  6. linky no worky, he file of the above link no longer exists. This could be for several reasons: * The uploader deleted the file * The file contained illegal contents and was deleted from our Abuse team * The file is incorrect * The server is busy and can not process the request.
  7. I understand. It has to do with the graphics pictures I have from the original game. They were made with the old 4:3 ratio. It will run fine in a window mode on the new wide screen monitors. Full screen mode it is stretched out. I would need to change the basic graphics to the 9:16 format ratio and all the metrics scaled to that image size. It can be done, just not for the first release.
  8. Yes basically the same, except for bug fixes of course and a better interface to navigate. I am using hoover over pop ups and stuff to help give better feedback and changes to some thing to make it less of a click fest. So far I set the galaxy up using the tool Galaxy Mapper I made for the standard game exactly as it was. You can go easily to 300 planets total however you want. 5 or 20 planets per sector, 100 sectors etc. Call them classes Inner , outer, mid, Hutt space , Deep core, etc. Yeah that background galaxy Dusty Spiral and blue color I got from your idea DarthTex Any changes from the standard model will be discussed better when I get to the final stage. I believe the changes are for the better, but that code can be changed outside the game in custom text (my n00B version of LUA ). One reason I follow threads like this one about what peeps think about changes to be made for better game play. I want to think hard about this bombardment values and thing as should the GenCore Shield be exactly 40 , or can the ship wear down the planets shields some per day given one bombardment if a player castled himself with six shields and many on ground Generals and such making a ground assault impossible, or a mission to succeed. maybe a blockade can ruin the maintenance cost and slowly destroy the defenses as it was in real life starving them out in a castle siege to make an analogy.

Remake is the same game but better graphics and heck of lot more mod friendly since we cannot get the original source code. It is a complete rewrite.
  10. Very, very good points. The whole bombardment thing with fighters was ridiculous. I just made fighters have NO bombardment value and change the capital ships more or less like you say. But if what you did works in game, and the AI understands, I would go along with it. Plus I would have the planetary defense number of fighter squadrons limited by building only so many places to park them in. ------------------------ The big question is should a fighter have any bombardment at all? I want that to be a capital ship only ability. That kind of firepower is only for capital ships I would argue. Second is a limit on how many planetary fighter squadrons (somehow by cost for the holding buildings or plain power point requirement). That is more for the Remake. I do want to finish it this winter. As for updating cards, can someone with XP just do it for you? I still have XP on my old computer. Else I would use a hex editor or Resource hacker to change the files. I like your idea.
  11. I think your correct about that. For the maintenance/production cost, it also seems to me that in large numbers the TIE Interceptors did better than the TIE Defenders against anything the Alliance would throw at them. It would seem that the attack rating / maneuverability is very important. Though nominally 'mano y mano' the TIE Defender will beat a TIE Interceptor.
  12. I got Rebellion 2008 working on my new W7 64 bit machine and wide screen monitor. Best is windows mode. You can re size it. It takes a long time to get a finished project. I have the initial front end GUI. That was a lot of work. I hope the pure coding part is easier than getting three/four layer of graphics to works together. I think the pure coding is going to be much faster and easier...and more open to community programming. Just simple to use (more or less) Basic language: Dark Basic Professional. It is free now, and easy to learn, a pain to master. After three years I have the 2D main and a basic 3D engine to show. I been saying that for a while but I really had to make sure it was going to work on modern computers and not just my seven year old CRT monitor and P4 2.8 Ghz Duke Nukem Forever or Rebellion Remake first?
  13. The level they are at when they are discovered. Yes They increase the stats generally after every successful mission that uses those stats by one point. Success in diplomacy increases Diplomacy. Escaping a foiled mission that you were the agent (not decoy) may increase Espionage... Base+ positive random variance. so 50 var 20; is RND 50 to 70 start. IIRC Jedi increase their stats much faster and easier, it maybe two points every single time, or more often. Use a mission and see the increase. They can become very powerful. I think do not raise above 255 in RebEd.
  14. You have done a lot of work. I hope you can get it finished some time. It is a bigger game than I thought to program. You are the one to succeed where no one else has. I seen how much code is written on the web site. That is quite a bit of programming. My project version went into game limbo...I do not know if it will ever be completed. I used a simple language and I am paying the cost now it as it became bigger. I only know that simpler language. It was made to do simple things fast. For large games such as Rebellion, a person must use a real, more difficult language that requires a real education.
  15. and that makes the game so much better. You must use espionage and diplomacy to its full advantage, or risk losing planets. So many new games just leave out espionage to make it easy.
  16. Only two planets Coruscant and Yavin are hard coded to start. All the rest are by chance. If you could edit the save game, which none really have too much success.

  21. I had that once in a game with the AI. Every time Luke escapes he gains even more higher ratings for evading. He was bouncing back and forth between Rebel controlled planets traveling in hyperspace and was taking forever for him to pop-up for one turn then evade and bounce back infinitely. Capture and control every planet as the Empire, and finally if that does not work, blow up each one until he has no where to go. His espionage rating is so high he is almost a ghost. You would think a force user such as Vader would cull him out. Maybe leave one rebel planet and have Vader wait for him. I do not know if Luke has to be on the planet, or just merely orbiting inside a ship, for Vader to detect him.
  22. against the computer only about 500-800 turns at most easily. against real humans it is more of a challenge. You can edit the research using the editor to speed up research for both sides. RebEd or the new SWR: Editor 2.0 made by Erratone.

  24. I thought that mines/refineries were a way to cripple the Empire by the Alliance economically. If ships have a maintenance cost and material to produce them. That is the only thing off hand for the mines and refineries, economic sabotage. Else, ditch them for now. I do not think people really worried about them that much in the original game... It does simplify the coding to leave that out for now, maybe replaced with something else more esoteric to accomplish economic sabotage -such as blowing up one of the Empires precious ISD ships, or shipyard. Planet population, planet bonus, popularity, control, population happiness, and length of ownership could form a basis for credits.
  25. Those three button areas (upper right hand side corner) in the original Reb1 would show your or enemy fleets. Are you going to display what fleets are above a planet somewhere or somehow else? Are you going with the money/credit system and no more resources/mines/refineries?
