Yes I do. They all came from full size planets. Just tell me which ones.

No for these reasons, but you do bring up a very good point that is going to be addressed. First, I want to reduce micromanagement and have a competent strategic AI that understands it. Second, Maintenance does keep things like new, so the age factor is part of the maintenance cost spread out over the average. Thirdly, as you show, the end game for the guy who owns most of the galaxy, is swimming in excess resources. That will change. Fourth, research is another "age factor" that takes time but makes things more efficient. The vanilla game gave out too much generous mines, refineries, and maintenance points. This also makes sabotage mission of the economic variety rather a poor option. This game is about Rebellion, and the little guy needs a chance to fight back if he continues to play in a galaxy that you own 66% of. Else they will quit if human, or a non-cheating AI is nothing to beat at that point and it is boring. In the remake, you will value all mines, refineries, and maintenance points. Harder to come by (stripped the galaxy bare). This makes sneaky Economic Sabotage Missions really hurt you especially if your the Rebels (good at this mission) hurting the Galactic Empire (big and bloated having a lot of maintenance cost). Additionally the more systems you own (modified by a bonus +- build up level and civilian happiness and loyalty and size etc) will cost you much more to maintain. Here is where the hidden age factor comes into play, the longer you play and if you are winning 66% plus, the more it cost you to hold on and maintain your huge mega Empire together. Then the enemy who has less own-age of the galaxy (plus a good bonus to building up what he does own to the max) can really hurt using economic sabotage on you rather than a frontal military assault that would end very badly. Example is the real world. Big country versus little country. They use guerrilla warfare and economic sabotage to hurt the big guy. A direct military assault would be suicidal. As a game balance, the 'little country' will never win the game using economic warfare alone, that must be done military or diplomacy, but it does buy them valuable time to achieve those goals. Time to research a longer path to catch up to you. Example, *** gets the super Nuke. Now it is time to fight. (Death Star for Empire). "Rise of Nations" used this IIRC to end the game. That will make the end game exciting, you will never know where the Rebels in this case are going to strike next, and you will be frustrated by all the nipping hit and run attacks ruining your giant perfect Empire, just like the theme in the movie. Lea talks to Vader in the opening sequence, the more he grasps the more it slips away. Additionally, you will be worried about the Rebel's super weapon coming to power if given enough time (Luke at the Master Jedi level?).. He may just come walking right into your throne room and snatching ol' Papy and Vader away just like the movie.

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.

Jeez, your right, and I have it already on my hard drive. I need to take a look at it after converting it skin from .bin to .bmp. Tip for any one using Convert3 from the Model Exchange Tutorial, it only runs under Windows XP ( or 32 bits OS). I had to re-skin the Nebulon B frigate model somewhat and fix the textures, error occurred in conversion for some reason into .jpg skin. I am new at modeling. The updated model is looking good. I think these should be uploaded somewhere here for posterity. They are low poly count models with a newer modern bigger high resolution skin 256 to 1024 added. They need more skin work but I am no artist, I can look and take photos off the web and place pictures on the skin. Low polygon because of the hundreds of models that may be shown at once; EAW limited how many you could display to twenty ?? due to graphics limitations back then. I do not want people to have to have a super computer to run the game. It is strategy first, graphics second. Well, I am finding a way slowly to get around the "hand holding" code in lite-C. I like to make my own Macros so I know what is going on exactly in game. Another function it uses is "save_game". I like to do that myself, just that in object oriented languages, several functions are running at once "in parallel" so to speak(one at a time). I just need to make sure each function has meet its wait(1) statement end before saving the state of their arguments and data arrays. That is much more complicated than BASIC languages, but Object Oriented Languages are supposed to do things that make it much easier to code "within a person's lifetime" making it worth the trouble. -

Sure, I seen they had the Marauder model in the EAW project. model ending in ALO and an exporter to put in other engines. I would have to get permission and give credit for those. If you can find model from 3ds or .x format is good. I am bit frustrated with the C-lite language Game Studio uses because there is too much hand holding making it hard to write a simple program. IE use their macro predefined functions or else. I wish there is an engine and language pure, I think it is the Unreal engine and it is free. It uses C++ pure and has the capability to show the complex 3 D graphics. I will struggle some more with C-lite Game Studio, but if I cannot code around their macros, then even with its nice engine 3D graphics, it is not going to work. -
Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.

Yes, that is a Venator class ship up there. It is a neutral ship (precursor to the Star Destroyer class, due to the fall of the Old Republic). A ship that can be built by both sides according to cannon"?". It is an early ship, with advantage and disadvantages. Fast build in an early universe, but rather high maintenance cost to keep from spamming early in game. The Alliance only 'real capital ship' until the Mon Calamari MC40a. But as I say, anything can be modded to how a person wants to play the game. In addition, there is a model for the Victory class Destroyer (the one with wings on its side) specialty is planet bombardment -plus rather cheap to make, dangerous in a wolf pack on the assault or homeland defense. Also show case is a simple model of a Imperator class destroyer, aka the "Imperial Star Destroyer". A true terror weapon offensive platform for planetary subjugation for those unruly colonies who get out of line. ATR DX9 transport model is cool. It can perform not only planetary drop of troops, but uniquely capturing other capital ships. Cheap to make, but carries few troops and bit slow. Whereas the Sentinel and other can only perform ground assaults, the ATR can affect ship captures in space also. The Sentinel specializes more troop capacity and ground assaults (spec ops teams), an over grown Lambda shuttle, but lacks the luxury of the Lambda personnel transport. I am to make the game so that transport class is more important than it was in vanilla Rebellion. Troops, personnel and spec ops do not move magically behind the scenes. All things need their minimum ship class size to move them around the galaxy. Also important for economic trade between planets as a bonus (and a good target for raids if left unprotected). These are only ideas for now about their functions. @CIMFZoe I am glad for your enthusiasm. It is good to know there are people out there still interested and willing to help test things. -

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6524/shuttles.th.png Delta_DX9, Sentinel, Lambda OK. the Sentinel was messed up, but the original is from SCIFI 3D website by Tom Grays, I only re-did the texture skin to fit into Game Studio to look better. It is working now perfect. Delta_DX9 was listed from this site, I converted the .BIN skin into .BMP using Convert3 in Windows XP, then changed to and hack into a .JPG file. Then imported to Game Studio format. They look very nice in game. rename the .rmd file to a zip and unzip the files, read me original, ------------------------------------------------------------ Based on Original model by Lucasart's X-Wing Alliance team Conversion by the MASK Description: Telgorn's Delta class DX-9 is a 20 meter long transport ship, that was used by the Empire to move Stormtrooper detachments. Despite its size it is armed just as well as a heavy assault fighter and can therefore be just as important during capture operations, as the troops it carries. This may not be the most complicated model ever made, but it kept me busy nevertheless. When I tried to create the texture map with texporter as I did several times before it simply would work. While looking for something completely different I read about Lith's automatic uv-unwrapping tools and gave it a try. Then it was almost a piece of cake. Big thanks go out to Brad Bolthouse for writing this program ! --------------------------------------- Last a very nice Lambda model from Tom Grays at SCIFI 3D. I only changed light parameters to look sweet in GS8 engine. -

Thanks for the kind words. You can help! You can test the demos as they are released and see if it run on your computer; such as resolutions, keyboard mouse movements, crashes. Beta testers are very important. Check back here or the other "Demo release" thread to see releases. This is not a complete game yet, these are just Code parts of the full game being made make sure they work. This one in particular is the new Game Studio A8 engine with C language script. I am a bit confused by the lite-C language it uses, but I am learning fast! Thank you for the interest and help! I am still slogging along, many have quit sadly, feedback (positive or negative) is very important for moral. We work for free. Oh yes, tell your friends and spread the good word a new 3D real strategy space game is coming. http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/8214/threeamigos.th.png Three Amigos Planet Mrisst, because we like a fair fight. @MrPhildevil thanks for sending the models, I will try them out and place a photo ASAP. -

I sent my e-mail . Can I ask, where and how do you get those models extracted from Warlords or Phoenix mod? I can really use models peeps would let me use. I am limited to what I have. A decent ATR trsnsport landing would look really nice! -
I do enjoy reading these stories and ideas for exciting game play options. It would seem most do like the newest galaxy configuration for a start, to play the new rebellion games. Maybe some new rules for people to set and experiment with. I always thought this game has huge potential if just given some more time and creation. Look at the RPG aspects of the characters, something I would like to expand upon. It gives a story that tells itself uniquely. e) NO Rebel diplomats will be targeted for capture. "So disintegrations are par for the course?" Bounty hunters ask Vader in response. One question, what about a rule with no troops or personnel can be moved normally between planets unless via a real transport ship? No magic behind the scene movements of troops or personnel.

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.
Slocket replied to Slocket's topic in Rebellion Editing
That is a planetary landing assault, very crude, to show it can be done. I need a Lambda Shuttle model! plus some storm trooper models. The new engine is much easier to work with. C language is more powerful than BASIC. Here is a space side picture. This is from a working demo of the Tactical Engine side of the game. http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/396/reb2tactical.th.png Hoth on Patrol I want to give a demo soon with a space battle so you can look around. I release them , so you can try them and make sure they work on your computer. Made for 1080 monitors, but you can set resolution by F5 key button by default or use ALT-ENTER to go to window mode. I did a tactical demo using Dark Basic three years ago, but I like this new Game Studio 3D engine better. I really need feedback to see if people still have an interest in this game being remade and fully modifiable all the way. You can see the script language and change every line of code. The basic compiler and engine is a FREE download. I wish I had toys and tool like this when I was growing up years ago....much faster to remake the game now. Wow. I am excited!!! In the demo, a VSD will show up and blast the corvette away. -

Desperate for Help-Win7 and XP Mode
Slocket replied to darksider282's question in Questions from Newbies
That is strange. But if it works, that is a good find. Another mystery of Microsoft Windows comes to light. -
Some good ideas. I need to keep in mind when I re code the Rebellion Remake project. I also did not like the bombard infinitely during one day then jump out. It will take limited time. One day per bombardment. Plus more detail planet action that all will love and really was missing from the original. Extra material to watch if you wish, or just leave it automatic summary as it was per planet. Trying to reduce the micromanagement, but allow you to get involved for extra fun or that personal touch. Would it not be neat if your command ship did move around the galaxy? You as the player is actually part of the galaxy inhabitant and move around (King on a chess board). You can over see projects and such. But you may want to build the unique Super Star Destroyer, or Home One (whatever it is called for the Rebels Flag Ship) to protect you.

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.
Slocket replied to Slocket's topic in Rebellion Editing
Good news and 100 dollars to get Game Studio . It is more like C language and does a lot more than DB. I am converting the code over for it. Should not take long. I need to be able to use Windows Native API win32 lib to do thing such as real scroll windows text display and to display list of information easier ( plus 'radio' buttons etc). I do not wish to remake DARK WINDOWS from scratch, it took MS decades to make theirs. So this engine should and does have those nice functions in it. That was my impasse. Phidevil...I am making the planet and galaxy mapper a whole lot easier to use now ( and more pretty user friendly), that I have a more advanced gaming engine and script language. You can see the full code open source, just modify if you wish, then compile with their free GameStudio A8 version. I think you guys will really like what is coming up. I was off for 3 months due to the Floods here in the Midwest Iowa Missouri river. Script is lite C and can be done with MS free Visual C++ 2008 compiler. Lite C is just a kindergarten version of full C++ for nubs like me after two years of programming. A person needs this unless you spend 4 years in college learning Direct X hard core programming. This product does that for me but has the detail and power to the low level stuff. -
Looks nice and is interesting with new stats and better game balance. I hope the AI fights better. I do have hundreds of planet pictures I can give an upload to sort through and see if there are any more pictures you want to use. Sadly the original game only has 17-37 IIRC or so slots to choose from. Your pictures are very clean and look cool. Oh yes, those blue dots are such a joy....

Under Windows 7 if you already know, you may have to let RebEd have administrator rights to make changes to files, else it will do nothing , and not tell you that it is doing nothing. A nanny feature of W7 I do not like,
-
RebEd has the ability to put the changes back to default of any it makes. You may have to completely manually delete your install directory if the changes are not disappearing if you tried to uninstall/re-install. I would have thought uninstall game/ would have got rid of the modified DAT files.

I was using "van Hage" map of the universe. It was squeezed out flat somewhat diagonal so it would fit a rectangle screens we use today. It would have had about 600 stars. I think I should use MODI map after a diagonal stretch transformation to fit a 1080 monitor screen better. Another thing is to drop the sector view of the planets and go with a single planet view in zoom, similar to what Evaders99 suggested. It would make even better pictures and information display of the planets and make zooming in to the "single unit level" so much easier. I would further explain why in my other thread. Wow, it is already June. I am glad there are still people interested in these projects. We all want a good space RT/TB game with a decent level of strategy. Looks good for the original game, your mod. The two maps are different. Shall we go with the Essentials Atlas Map version you speak of?? http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7673/1080hage.th.png

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.
Slocket replied to Slocket's topic in Rebellion Editing
Fine, I took some time off for PT. I am making it revamp to pure wide screen 1080 monitors and graphics. Solves a lot of the GUI layout problems and better display of planet information. I did not realize a problem with displaying two planet level surfaces in the same sector. So I am making the window pop up somewhat like a zoom in function when placed over a sector. Similar to a magnifying glass. semi-2D-3D look and feel
