Grand Moff Conway wrote: The average garrison strength is 1-3 depending on the sector and facilities located there (some systems have 6-9, and troop depots 20+). Loyalty is at 100% for the core sectors, except Dolomar which is ~80% since I lost a space battle between a Bulwark battlecruiser and 2 Strike cruisers. I would say I have a good solid standing. DarthTofu wrote: Yes I have, but I kinda think of that as "cheating" (especially if things don't "go my way"). I can always come back to this as "a different approach". I'm trying the "long way" first. I've turned on auto-manage for garrisons and resources (mines/refineries). While waiting for Mr. Imp to do his thing, I have a last few tasks to accomplish. In the Sluis sector, I've sent the other Death Star to several systems wiping system defenses and assaulting them. Apparently without knowing it I've named my two Death Stars, the "Death Star" and the "other Death Star" The Death Star has been sent to pulverize Yavin (it's a worthless rock anyway since my general bombardment awhile back). I want to blow up a system! While waiting I get an unexpected surprise. A rebel fleet (a Dauntless cruiser and 4 bulk transports) show up at Sarka in the Dolomar system. Bombardment commences (minimal damage), then the assaults begin. I've successfully beaten back the Wookie hoards for three assaults, but the fourth is fatal. I only had 1 Dark Trooper and 4 Army units there. Anyway, my fleet is currently in the Glythe sector, so I send them to Sarka. When they arrive the rebel fleet is gone, except for 2 bulk transports. They didn't last long. I assault the system (I don't want to destroy my own Gen Core). The lousy rebels have wiped the system clean of EVERYTHING. I reserve the CY's at Balfron and start constructing new Advanced Training facilities at Sarka. The Death Star arrives at Yavin. Fire the Super Laser! Death Star ignition sequence begins ... BOOM! No more Yavin. The fallout is minimal, two systems in the Dolomar sector are "near" uprising. I check them out and to my surprise I don't have ANY garrison troops there. Wow, and Oh well. Flax next door is also a worthless rock, let's go there. Oh, the rebel Dauntless has appeared on a hit & run raid in the Atrivis sector (he took a few pot shots and left. There was no damage. I send my fleet from Dolomar there to hopefully catch him). Arriving at Flax (a former rebel stronghold) I once again fire the Super Laser! Right before the cut scene begins I get to see that the system title "Flax" has switched to light blue, meaning it's neutral (I guess rubble is neutral). After its destruction I check the messages. My two systems in Dolomar have gone neutral, and there's another message that Flax has declared neutrality (a bit late, don't you think boys). I've also captured good ol' reb Garm fleeing Flax. Put him in cell AA23 (I think that's where Leia enjoyed her stay). My other sectors/systems have a small loyalty drop (not much). Time to head back to Bilbringi and get Mon Mothma. My fleet has arrived at the Atrivis sector, just as the Dauntless hits another system. He takes a few pot shots and leaves (no damage). I'm sending my fleet to the first system he hit to see if he comes back. In a few days he arrives to find my waiting fleet. I send in my 2 SSD's to deal with him directly. There will be no more raids from the rebels now. The other Death Star I sent from the Sluis sector to Byss (next door to Bilbringi). Maybe the rebels on Bilbringi will start getting nervous. Soon the Death Star Arrives at Bilbringi. I have played around until day 1999. On day 2000 I shall crush Bilbringi. The "Final Day (?)" of the rebellion arrives. Death Star ignition sequence begins ... BOOM! There goes my third targeted system to rubble. Loyalty took a little hit but ... I'm hearing a message of good news ... Mon Mothma has been captured! And off we go to the cut scene. Now, I'll reload my saved game. First order of business is to destroy Bilbringi here and now. Death Star ignition sequence begins ... BOOM! There are several messages that have popped up. But, before I can read them ... Mon Mothma has been captured! And off we go to the cut scene. I guess I could have saved myself some time and ended things quickly. Naw, I liked the original game sequence better. What a marvelous game. Thank you all for listening, I hope you enjoyed this as much as myself. Well, whenever I start another game, I'll definitely post for all the fans! Adios.

If anyone has looked lately, the membership count is close approaching 4000! That seems like a huge number to me (at least). I'm wondering, out of ~4000 members what is the average number of posts? What kind of tracking/data is available on users (i.e. how many times they have logged in, when is the last time they posted, etc.). I'm going to guess that most of these "members" don't hang around long (at least of what I can see from reading the forums, who posts & who doesn't). Occasionally there are some new names, but currently there are (I'm guessing here) about 2 dozen who post somewhat regularly. I'm just curious about all of the "missing" brethen and where they might be? Is there a "directory" of members to see who they are, when they last dropped in, and all of that good stuff. The curiosity bug has bitten me. Inquiring minds want to know.

It's time to cash in some of those Imperial furloughs Grand Moff Conway. Go out and live! There's more to the galaxy than Imperial research centers . The rebels will always be there waiting for you.

If Darth Plagueis (or Darth Sidious) was responsible for Shmi's pregnancy, then why wouldn't there be some sort of agent/observer to keep an eye on her and him, and be able to report back? Would you create the "ultimate Force user" and then just walk away? Unless it was Watto, but I wouldn't count on that. If Darth Plagueis was responsible, then Darth Sidious (if he knew of the experiment) didn't know who or where. It was just luck/destiny/the Force that brought Qui-Gon to Tattooine. Going from Naboo to Coruscant via Tattooine, is going quite a bit out of the way (and they weren't heading for Tattooine at all, it just happened to be "nearby"). If not for Qui-Gon, there would be no Darth Vader (well, maybe somebody else "might" have found Anakin eventually, but would he have been accepted into the Jedi Temple?).

Would you elaborate on how you accomplished this? I'm guessing you used RebEd (but I'm not sure).

I don't know how to do this , but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess ... you can't (especially with 15-18 slots). I think 14 is the maximum slots I've ever seen on any one system. That being said, to add more slots would require "extra" graphic space for the system info (unless you "squeeze" down the existing slot size). Not that any of this couldn't be done, I just don't know how (which was your original question). Worse comes to worse, cut the maintenance/refined points of everything to be built, plus mine/refinery output, to "make it seem" that system resources are more potent than they actually are.

Excellent as usual. This is almost like one of them-there-oldtime serial thrillers, always having people wanting for more.

My count is at 110. In the old days (before the Empire, during the Old Republic), I used to see plenty of first run films (I guess a real movie whore). Now I'm regulated to cable & rentals mostly . But, I still have enough of those "old movie" points to still be considered a movie whore (I still got it, but just barely . It's hard trying to keep up with them-there-young whipper snappers ). ***************************** Jahled wrote: Was that when Han Solo was in hiding from Jabba the (movie) Slut?

Day 1785 Current Status: The Rebel HQ has been destroyed Luke Skywalker has been captured Mon Mothma has been located but not captured (yet). I've decided to be luxurious (since I darn well practically rule the entire galaxy),and wrap up some loose ends before capturing Mon Mothma (and wrap up this entire rebellion and the game). I've started construction of a Death Star at Svivren, and (following a quote from the movie CONTACT) "why build one when you can build two for twice the cost?" Therefore a second Death Star is also under construction at Bortras. Both are scheduled to be complete in 90 days (I expect it to take longer, maybe by another 50%). Uvena is cranking out all of the necessary Tie Defenders for both battle stations, and my training facilities at Corsin and Selonia are working on the ground troops. The majority of my Star Galleons at Halowan (10 of them, fully loaded) have joined my token battle fleet and set off to the Abrion sector to capture rebel systems. The systems are defended by A-wings (anywhere from 7 to 10 squadrons). They are no match for my token fleet (1 SSD, 2 Strike Cruisers, 1 interdictor and an ISD). The Tie bombers get slowly whittled down, but I'm constantly sending reinforcements from Halowan. After battling four systems and assaulting them, I need a total restock of fighters (this time I'm getting all Defenders). I also stock back up on garrison troops. There are only 3 more systems in this sector that are worth anything, so after that this fleet is done. I'm not bothering with diplomats and smuggling loses on any of these systems, it's just not worth the effort. Maintenance is almost back up to 2500, and all of my extra refined materials are totally gone (Death Stars and their support equipment sure but a good dent in those numbers!). My fleet that has been patrolling the Dolomar and Glythe sectors for the rebel raiders has arrived back at Kamparas. I restock whatever is needed. I'll head over to the Glythe sector and "take" what few rebel systems that are worth taking. The Altarrn system is lightly defended (4 A-wings). I send my star fighters after them (all 36 of them). Since the Tie bombers (the majority of my fighters) are taking their time launching, the A-wings (flown by poorly trained rebel pilots) become impatient and charge into my fleet (1 SSD, 2 Strike Cruisers, 2 Vic II ISD's, 1 interdictor, 1 ISD, and 2 escort carriers. I let my few Defenders buzz around to draw the A-wings in). The first couple of my starfighters don't last long, but neither do the A-wings. The fleet (plus some of the Tie bombers) wipe out the A-wings (and not all of my Tie bombers are launched!). The Imperial narrator is going on about defeating the rebels while I can still hear the sound of Tie bombers launching. HA! That's funny. The assault is short and sweet. The only other rebel system worth taking is Fornax, and off we go! Whoa, but looky here. Hidden at Fornax is a small rebel fleet consisting of 1 interdictor, 4 A-wings and 2 Bulwark battlecruisers! Eurekia, I hit the jackpot. I send all capital ships after one Bulwark (the Invincible), all 28 Tie bombers after the other Bulwark (the Unfailing), and the few Interceptors/Defenders after the A-wings (What rebel audacity, naming their ships with Imperial names!). The fleets move out, there is a long line of blue and green Tie bombers streaming out from my fleet. Both Bulwarks are firing into my SSD, the rebel interdictor is going after Tie bombers. My SSD's shields are taking a pounding! They're recharging, but not nearly as quick as the Bulwarks are dishing it out. My fleet isn't doing too bad against its Bulwark, and the Tie bombers are doing even better! I just lost my shields on the SSD, and now it's taking hull damage. My fleet has elimated the Bulwarks shields, and the Tie bombers have turned theirs into a floating hulk of junk metal. The Tie bombers have finished off Bulwark. I send them over to the other one. It doesn't take too much longer to finish that one off. The rebel interdictor appears to be "trying to fly out". I redirect everybody after it. I think its shields only took three hits before they collapsed. There's a lot of rebel ship debris orbitting now (this just adds to Fornax's rings). There's actually a Gen Core and some Mon Cal garrison troops. How foolish. Turbolasers fire! The system is assualted and under Imperial control. I send Darth Vader and his fleet off to Yavin. But before going, I have him bombard Byss. Byss is now in uprising! The remaining fleet (commanded by Admiral Daala) is recalled to Phraetis from Bilbringi. Bilbringi is still in uprising. I'm constantly sending droids to spy on the rioting systems. Apparently somebody (an Imperial agent) has interferred with Mon Mothma's diplomacy mission on Bilbringi. Who told them to do that! She better not leave the system, or heads will roll! It appears that she and Drayson are both on system, but aren't doing anything. I'll just keep watching. The uprising on Bilbringi has ended. I'll send over a couple of commandos to take out one (and only one) garrison troop. Hooray! Bilbringi is in uprising again. HA! That should keep Mon Mothma busy again. Both my Death Stars are completed! I send fighters and troops to load them up. One is sent to Bilbringi and the other to Orto. Bilbringi has restored order once again. Darth arrives at Yavin. The rebel welcome committee (7 A-wings) is quickly swept aside. I have my characters do an espionage mission for me (Garindan, Niles Ferrier, Menndo (my former traitor), Villar, Noval Garaint and Shenir Rix). Commandos are going after the Gen Cores (two Gen Core II's). My characters report back, there are 3 Mon Cal troops, General Derlin, Labansat (captured) and an LNR II battery. The commandos keep failing against the Gen Cores and their numbers are starting to dwindle. That Derlin character is a pain! I send several Nogrhi after him. The characters have taken out the LNR battery. I'm totally out of commandos now, they've all failed their mission. The Nogrhi have failed as well. I'll send down several more groups after him. My characters take out one of the Gen Cores. Turbolasers fire! The final Gen Core and the three Mon Cals are toast!. Some of my Nogrhi have failed to return. I'm going for the open assault. Derlin has escaped capture (and assassination), but Labansat has escaped. My remaining Nogrhi are sent back to the fleet. I now control Yavin! I scrap everything on the system, and then withdraw my troops. I them bombard Yavin into a lifeless hunk of rock. It now has six mining units left, but NO energy units. The rebels can keep it. I then send my fleet over to Flax. Flax meets the same fate as Yavin. Time to head back to the Core (Phraetis). The Death Star arrives at Bilbringi to face the awesome power of the rebellion ... a single A-wing. How pitiful. The A-wing squadron's death is merciful (very quick). Byss now has order restored, but with a twist: the system is now Imperial! The Byss system is completely scrapped (the old slash-and-burn technique by the rebels). Maybe this was a maintenance problem, as well as the arrival of the Death Star? I'll never know (and don't really care). The other Death Star arrives at Orto in two more days. There appears to be a gunship in orbit. He'll get a big surprise if he's still there in two days. Apparently some of the rebel fleet is still running around, a Dauntless cruiser just bombarded Ando (no damage), and then ran away (cowards!). The challenge from the rebellion is growing tedious. Maintenance is now around 3500, with a plethora of raw/refined materials sitting around collecting dust. I think I'll let the (other) Death Star assault a few systems in the Sluis sector first before capturing Mon Mothma. I wonder ... if I destroy Bilbringi with the Death Star, when Mon Mothma's on it, what will happen? Will I capture her (since she can't be killed), or will she escape? Imperial loyalty will take a hit from using the Death Star, but if I capture Mon Mothma ... who cares as the game will be over? If she escapes, it will be boring tracking her down (or will it?). Anyone have any good ideas on which way to go, and why? I'll take a short break in the game so people can respond.

An excellent story BadSamaritan. It's very intriguing. You say this is all based off an RPG you're running now, so does this mean you have no idea on where this is all going? Fascinating! Keep posting as time allows.

The NR exploited this at Ebaq 9, when they set their trap for the Vong (and they fell for it, with a couple of twists). The Vong are like a cross between Samurai and Klingon warriors: lots of BS about glorious battle, honor and dying in combat. Make them believe they are dying for the greater glory of the Vong gods and all good thinking goes down the crapper. This tactic was even used in the second book (I forget the title) by Corran Horn on Ithor. They loaded up a defensive position with loads of droids, and had it booby-trapped. The Vong reptoid slave/warriors passed up fighting "people" for their chance to destroy TECHNOLOGY. The Vong leader figured it out, but the troops were far too crazed to listen to a command to ... retreat? So, they all went BOOM! This makes them predictable, and I'm sure the Vong leaders knew they were predictable, but all of this honor and glory BS makes those who are cautious look like cowards. The Vong were good at planning long term strategies and moving pieces into place for battle, but on the tactical side they couldn't adapt and understand quick enough (although if they did, there would be questions about NOT letting warriors die for their gods). -

After personally having a high level stressful position for years, it's nice sometimes just sitting back and being a "peon" . -

Battle for Coruscant - Imperial NJO era
DarthTex replied to Defender_16's topic in General Discussion
The Empire wouldn't have let the Vong ever get close to Coruscant. They would've wiped them out early in the invasion and would have "planted" a Death Star on the invasion route. Every worldship that arrived would have about 1 day (tops) to live. Then it would time for the infamous ignition sequence and BOOM! No more worldship. But getting back to your original hypothesis. I agree with MAD, the civilian ships would just be turbolaser fodder for pre-battle target practice . I would say that Palpy is alive and well , Vader is on the Executor with several hundred ISD's at his beck and call , Thrawn and Pellaeon also in command of fleets (with SSD's) . Interdictors would be set up to "pull" parts of the Vong fleet out of hyperspace, with ISD's set up for a nasty crossfire. The Death Star II (and maybe others? ) would be orbitting Coruscant waiting for the main attack force. The Vong wouldn't have lasted too long before retreating . -
I read an article about something similar about ~10 years ago (Air & Space magazine?). Basically the aircraft would have a piezo-electric "skin" (and of course a special airframe underneath) such that when you "turn" the aircraft, it would "bend" into the configuration necessary (look ma, no rudders! Or elevators, flaps or slats for that matter). With the "right" piezo-electric "skin" you might also get super camouflage! I haven't seen the specific program you mentioned, but I will definitely be looking for it now. It sounds like the idea has been updated.

Unfortunately not . I found it (somewhere, I don't remember ) on the 'net.

I found this little dity hiding on my hard drive http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/8052/xwingnavys9sf.th.jpg Maybe this will also answer the question about other intelligent life in the universe (Forum: Alien Life).

Darth_Rob wrote: They were Vulcans , and you got it. Once for sure, maybe twice later on to colonize or look for someone/something. Now, add a couple of billion more systems to check (that would be a heck of a game! ). Now the latest estimate is the universe is approximately 15 billion years (Billion with a B) old. Let's say it takes 14 billion years for some other life out there to develop and "travel" the universe. The "aliens" have had a billion years to find us. The best way to "detect" intelligence is via radio waves (hence SETI), which are the only things humans can currently use to get out of our solar system. Let's say radio signals have been going out from Earth for about 100 years. If the "aliens" are walking along a mile (1.6 km) long path (the path represents their time looking for us), they're looking for a "signal" that's about 6/1,000 ths of inch (0.16 mm) long (which is smaller than a human hair). The time frame that "intelligent" life has been "signalling" on this planet is literally shorter than a blink of the eye compared to the age of the universe. Maybe they've already looked this rock over (who knows how many times), and might come back later when we're "more evolved"? Only human arrogance thinks they should contact us "now". Maybe our "solar system" is actually a big "cage" in the inter-galactic zoo, so all the different "aliens" can "watch" us.
