  1. My hardest starts: As the Empire: no construction yards. Not even 1 in an entire galaxy (large galaxy, hard). Thankfully Coruscant starts with a Star Destoyer in orbit. I loaded it up with troops plus the galleons and took over the next door neighbor (neutral system) to get things going. Take first, do diplomacy later. As the Alliance: no training facilities. I scoured the universe for neutral planets with training facilities and sent out the diplomats. Yeah, I did have Construction Yards (CY), but you only start with 1 per system. To build a training facility from scratch (with just one CY) would take forever. The CY's were very busy anyway, making more CY's.
  2. The title "Grand Admiral" does have some nostalgic history to it. You could "borrow" from the Vong and try "Supreme Admiral".
  3. Make sure you have a capable Admiral in charge of your fleet. An espionage mission will definitely help know what you're dealing with. A few Nogrhi/Characters to abduct/assassinate any generals or other characters will help. And definitely commandos for sabotage (troops/defensive facilities). I've found a good admiral with enough firepower (you said you had a "HUGE" fleet) is usually adequate. An admiral can definitely tip things in your favor (without an admiral the AI becomes your "admiral" so to speak ). Good Luck.
  4. If Luke turns to the Dark Side, then the Emperor has to be "dethroned" so Vader and Luke can rule the galaxy as Father & Son! Should Vader then get the "Seat of Power" that the Emperor has when on Coruscant? Would Father & Son be able to turn "Sister" (Leia) to the Dark Side then? If so, what would happen with Han? The permutations are very interesting.
  5. Ghostbusters: "No job is too small. No fee is too big." Vibes: Jeff Goldblum in the Andes mountains with a bad guy Bad Guy: I'm feeling generous. Where DON'T you want to be shot (pointing the gun at his head, heart, body, etc)? Jeff Goldblum: In South America.

  7. Thanks. I rarely use "general bombardment", and never in the inner core (too much negative feedback with loyalty). Usually I'll target military only, and then use sabotage to take out everything else as necessary.
  8. Other than Natural Disasters I didn't think it was possible to destroy a system's natural resources (other than using the Death Star). But I just did it, unintentionally though. Playing as the Empire (virgin version, no RebEd mods), I sent a fleet to Yavin to raze the planet and teach neutral systems and empty systems a lesson if supporting the Rebellion. I used the General Bombardment to destroy all structures off the face of the planet (very Empire like I think ). When all was said & done, I noticed the system energy and raw materials status bars had become "shorter". I didn't see anything like this mentioned in the manual. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
  9. In one of the Pre-clone war novels (after TPM), Obi-wan and Anakin were sent to Zenoma to find Vergere (a jedi) under the guise of purchasing one of its "living" ships. A young Tarkin was in command of a Republic task force (under the orders of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine) to secure the planet for The Republic (presumably before a civil/clone war was to break out?). When hostilities with the Republic task force started, Zenoma fled. IMHO had the Republic secured Zenoma, Palpatine would have had the planet churning out warships of interesting design But for Palpatine's overall master plan to work, the Republic couldn't be "too" strong before the clone wars began, otherwise his emergency powers as Chancellor and his military buildup would have been shot down by the Senate. Maybe he would have captured Zenoma, then sent it off to become his "arsenal of tyrrany" when the time came(?). (Zenoma) Sekot was supposedly VERY strong in the Force. Palpatine could have tried to use the Dark Side for something there ... let's see: Darth Maul is dead, I need a new apprentice. Should I pick Count Dooku or this Force sensitive living plate? What would I do with a Force sensitive living planet under the influence of the Dark Side. OOOwww weee!
  10. For the Empire - Tie Defender all of the way, Alliance - X-wings mostly with some B-wings. Ditto on that, with the exception of replacing A-wings with X-wings. For the Empire, the same applies when the Tie Defender first appears. I have mostly Tie Interceptors with few Tie Defenders, and use the Defenders as "bait".
  11. On the mine/refinery production rate of "5". What does that mean exactly? 5 raw materials/refined materials produced "per month", "per week", etc? It's definitely not "per day". Or is this another generic "normalized" number on some scale of 1 to 10, or something?
  12. I don't use droid management for either. At the beginning of the game I just get planets (diplomacy/assault) in the inner core. I then garrison an outer rim sector and build one super construction yard system to build mines/refineries (and/or the occasional super shipyard). Then repeat this through out the other outer rim sectors. As for garrison troops, I usually use a minimum of 1 or 2 of the lowest value troops. I usually keep systems with priority facilities (construction yards, training facilities, shipyards) well stocked. I keep the high attack troops on ships for assualt, then ferry garrison troops after conquest. The droid (AI) management for the "other side" is a definite benefit for me. As the AI stocks the opposition planets with the minimum required number of troops/fighters, I send my fleet patrolling to each of these systems wiping out the fighters and bombarding/sabotaging the garrison . Now the AI has to use resources to replenish what I just wiped out. With all of these resources being redirected, I never get too many surprises. Just keep patrolling the systems and wiping them out.
  13. No offense, the history is definitely amazing. Tolkien spent years on this and I don't mean to trivialize this with just one sentence. With such a great foundation, it seems there should be the potential for a plethora of stories/novels. SW has (now) six movies and look at all of the novels/books to enrich it (somewhere there was a thread regarding "trekifying"), but Middle Earth is far from that.
  14. The Silmarrilion was very good, but "histories" do get to be a tad "dry" when compared to a "novel's" storyline. The Hobbit and the Trilogy are great, the movies spectacular (I would have been interested to see how Jackson would have presented Tom Bombadil though. Tolkien must've had a little brain fart there. Although it was quite interesting that the Ring had NO POWER over him). I heard the Hobbit is going to film in the future, and it would be neat if, if ... there ... could ... be ... PREQUELS!! Films about the First/Second Ages, and the Númenoreans! Now they were some kick-@#% dudes. They beat Sauron to end the Second Age!

Destiny's Way was extremely exciting/thrilling, ... BUT it promised sooo much more that never followed in the remaining books. I was quite disappointed . The "new Rebel Alliance" thing showed great promise but was never developed. It seemed like a neat thread to sustain the story, but it never ever came up again. What's the point in that? It also seemed that all of the neat "technological" breakthroughs of the New Republic/Galatic Federation all of a sudden were neutralized just after 1 book. The Chiss never got to get into any real "action", they were just "there". To me it seems (from the Thrawn Duology), the Chiss were already preparing for the Vong waaay in advance of the New Republic. Then they never do anything spectacular. What a let down. But this story line, like a long Tom Clancy novel, raps up very quickly before you know it. Oh well all good things must come to an end.

  17. Finding good sites is a hard thing to do. I found several but either they aren't update-to-date, abandoned? or have a very narrow scope. I can remember seeing the original movie back in '77 as a kid (I hope this doesn't date me). I've been hooked ever since. Like I had mentioned, I used to play X-wing, and then Tie Fighter (games from the '90's). I don't really go after all of the "products" following a movie release (though I bet several are quite exciting). Dark Forces kind of burned off "just anything SW" . Strategy games (Rebellion) are very thought provoking and give me a chance to employ my logic against the AI (weak AI I should say ). My enthusiasm won't be fading just because the release date of RotS fades to history. I plan on checking the forums frequently and adding my two bits as necessary. See ya around amigo.
  18. Howdy y'all, Finally got settled in. I've been watchin' and readin' for a couple of months & finally decided to join in. I was originally surfin' the web for info on the X-wing space combat simulator when I stumbled across your site. I'm also a Rebellion fan. I have only played the "original virgin" version so far. I can't wait to try RebEd and all the neat mods. Hope to see y'all round soon.
