  1. Although some might think it would be nice to see "individual" fighters flying around in a combat sim, I'm of the old saying "too much of a good thing, isn't good". That many "individual" fighters flying around would just distract the user, and be a tedious to keep track of; keep starfighters on a squadron basis. I don't know why they didn't do the same to the land combat units (not 12 squadrons, but maybe x number of squads/companies/battilions/etc for a ground unit). Damaged units are easier to kill in combat, so "just getting rid of them" takes away some strategy aspect of the game (if at least only in my mind). If there were an option to "consolidate" damaged units that would be more realistic; but it comes with a "price": left over individual fighters would be "lost". For example, two damaged squadrons one with 5/12 fighters left and the other 8/12 fighters left. Consolidating them would get 13/12 fighters, but since squadrons are limited to 12 fighters, the "left over" fighter would be "lost". Two squadrons of 11/12 fighters would get you one full squadron and ten "lost" fighters, so that's why making it an option would be better. Sabotaging any squadron at random would be a good option, but deleting sabotaging a specific sqaudron is not the right answer. Maybe changing that to sabotaging a specific squadron "type" would be better. Depending on circumstances, sometimes I sabotage only certain types, say "bombers" because I want to reduce the damage of attacking/raiding enemy fleets. That would be hard to do if only "generic" fighters are destroyed (if the mission is successful).
  2. Jahled would definitely agree on the natural disaster thing For how long his post is, the only thing that seem to matter to him was the natural disaster. He didn't mention the multi-message click fest, the tactical battle scenario (Bud covered that well in his comment-reply), or some of the other troublesome problems. Though I do agree with him on the LucasArts plethora of crap filled products that spewed forth after release of The Phantom Menace. At that point I too did "give up" on LucasArts and their mindset to take my money for low quality "crap". I'm still waiting for some "quality" fun (I do like BattleFront though ); when is Rebellion 2 going to be released? (Slocket, Davidas, steel and everybody/anybody else working on this)
  3. Being "old school" and not knowing about all of this new-fangled programming stuff, the best I can do is relate to things from the past. At the beginning of the movie TOP GUN, the radar screen shows 2 bogeys, but as they get closer the 2 become 4, and the 4 become 8. So, by analogy, just show the fighter unit "icon" but the "farther" away you are, just use fewer unit icons, and the closer you are use more unit icons. I hope that makes sense to you; and hope that might have been helpful. Just my two bits worth
  4. New Galaxy files sent
  5. Congrats Rob! Have fun; just make sure you don't get scammed (I'm always wary of "winning stuff" on the internet).
  6. You got "New Galaxy" files!
  7. These two items caught my attention. I have never tried to do the first; does this just involve changing the destination prior to completion? I'm guessing this doesn't require a "restart" of construction. The second sounds like it may be "ghost fleeting"; could you explain in more detail how your "decoying" works?
  8. Keeping myself busy and out of trouble, (mostly) Starting a major renovation to the ranch house; several walls are down and half my ceilings are now gone So much for the demolition; now time for "construction"! Nice pics there J. I've checked out several pages, but it will take quite awhile to finish the entire album
  9. That is great Some are definitely better than others. @J: Long time no hear ... How's it going?
  10. Are you talking about the Ion cannons on the ship, or the defensive Ion cannon on a system? Planetary Ion cannons don't do anything to enemy ships in orbit, whether they are bombarding or not. They're sole purpose is to destroy attacking troops during planetary assaults. During space battles, enemy fleets always attack your most powerful ship first; there is one exception (maybe) depending where you have your command officers. Sometimes those ships get attacked first depending on how effective they (your command officers) are. Usually the "latest" technology ship is considered the most powerful. When playing as the Empire, I have just a few Tie Defenders, just to "suck off" the enemy fighters while my Tie Bombers go in for the swarm attack! Although, some capital ships will still take pot shots at them.
  11. My guess would be something about not having the required resources to produce the corresponding units. But, it's just a guess
  12. You're welcome. Although, I believe you'll find trying to do anything (sizing, locations, etc) with the windowed-mode will be .... frustrating Good luck with that.
  13. Nice new windows. I particulary like the new system layout for the Sesswenna sector Original sector/systems names, just new locations. Now where have I seen that before?
  14. Thanks for the update Def!
  15. I've never had the "opportunity" to experience any of these screens. The last two appear to be when "Bounty Hunters" capture Han and/or others. I've always had to capture Han myself (worthless bounty hunters. All I ever got from them was info on where he was located; & half the time I already knew that).
  16. You're almost there: on the line CIBLE. ....LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion\REBEXE.EXE" -w http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/4782/rebellionshortcut.jpg
  17. Most people refer to the "refitted" Enterprise (from the movies) as the Enterprise-class, as opposed to the "original" Constitution-class Enterprise. Why is it listed here? Maybe for comparison purposes, maybe to "rub in" the smaller size of Star Trek vessels (Freudian thing?).
  18. You do realize your "titles" are out of order with the pictures, right?
  19. I remember reading exactly that somewhere in the forums ages ago: screenshots must come from a "windowed" game. 1) create a shortcut on your desktop to run Rebellion (if you haven't already done this). 2) add the following (without the quotes) "-w" at the end of the execution line for starting the program. The "dash W" forces the game to run in "windowed" mode. Good Luck!
  20. "Useless"? I would think not. Using your example, what good is an ISD in combat without fighter cover? Yes, more than likely you will still win the battle, but a severely damage victorious ship isn't worth much afterwards for follow on operations (i.e. 1 ISD-no fighters vs Alliance Escort Carrier with 3 X-wings, 3 YY-wings). If it's going to take 120 days to get my ISD, hopefully after managing the galaxy in the mean time, I won't "forget" about my ISD; better yet, hopefully NOT forget to build fighters for it afterwards. The temptation to use it right away will probably be too much for most. But should the ISD be completed with a full compliment of fighters, then it's time to "lock-n-load" During the tactical battles when you "click" on a Task Force, a picture on one ship appears in the upper right hand corner. There are "side" arrows to scroll through the remaining ships in the Task Force. This could be implemented on the construction screen for building multiple items (or maybe something similar). All you would have to do is specify the number of "facilities" to be used for that particular "build"; remaining "facilities" would then be available for other (appropriate) items.
  21. Yeah, you arnt the only one it took awhile to remember what's going on. Good posts Def! What "thread" of the story are we going to now?
  22. I give access of the Corellian Corvette and Nebulon-B Frigate to the Empire. Years ago when I played X-wing, the Empire had "lots" of these ships; only to not have them in Rebellion? I agree that the Alliance should have access to the Victory SD; it's technically a Clone-Wars era ship with the data readily "available" should the Alliance want to construct them.
  23. While having a (working) editor is nice, it's not necessary. You can edit the data directly using a Hex editor. Although I will admit this would be quite cumbersome. I copy the (hex) data to a spread sheet then write my own conversion to "decimal base 10" from hex. Then you can manipulate the data as you see fit. Just convert the data back to "hex" and put it back in the hex editor. This is abit tedious and time consuming to do, but like you found out, if you can't find a working editor that gives access to ALL of the data, then it's what you're willing to do, to get what you want. RebEd is "great" but you can't modify that mysterious "AI variable" for ships (what other DATA does RebEd NOT let you edit?), which is what SWREditor can do. SWREditor though, is not as user friendly as RebEd. I like looking at the "(converted) raw data" so I can know what other information is there, and figure out what it's for and how it works Good Luck!
  24. Happy Birthday young whipper-snapper!! It's so hard to believe you're now in college, and (somewhat) acting more mature from when you first joined ~5 years ago. Have fun, and behave yourself over Spring Break!
  25. Nobody said any of this was going to be easy. This is just a list I compiled of what I/others thought would make the game "really nice"; not to say there aren't other (better) ideas, or some of these could be done without. I'd think the biggest problem would be programming this monster. Getting the "data" might be tedious, or hard to find, but not nearly as difficult as the programming aspect. Still waiting for your "response" David
